Iranian leaders still haven't learned that when referring to non-Muslims, the politically correct term is "the other". From ADNKI:
Iran's religious minorities have slammed recent controversial remarks by a top aide to the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing non-Muslims as "sinful animals who roam the earth and engage in corruption." Kurosh Niknam, the Zoroastrian representative in the Iranian parliament, lashed out at the slur, saying it was "an unprecedented insult to religious minorities.""Not only are non-Muslims not sinful animals, but if Iran has an illustrious past and civilisation to feel good about, it owes this to those who lived in Iran before the arrival of Islam," said Niknam, adding that animals were owed an apology, "because those who sin and besmirch the earth are men who have no respect for God's other creatures."
The inflammatory "sinful animal" remarks were made on Sunday by close advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati at a ceremony in north-eastern Iran to commemorate the 'martyrs' of the Revolutionary Guards and the (1980-1988) war against Iraq.
The ayatollah heads the powerful Guardian Council, a non-elected body made up of clerics and lawyers, which can veto legislation. As well as being a top aide to Khamenei, he is a mentor of Iran's hardline president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
"Not only are non-Muslims not sinful animals, but if Iran has an illustrious past and civilisation to feel good about, it owes this to those who lived in Iran before the arrival of Islam," said Niknam..

He dared to say this? Yes, of course it's true, but he dared to say it? My god, perhaps there is a teeny-tiny ray of hope for Iran after all. Back to Zoroastrian, all you "Muslim-for-identification-purposes-only" Muslims from and in Iran. It was good enough for your ancestors. Make it chic. Spread the word. Drop Islam, it won't do you, or your progeny any good. If you continue to identify yourself as a Muslim, you charming man or even more charming woman, you will simply be deluding the Infidels about the real nature of Islam, and they will give Islam credit for your personal wonderfulness. Don't let it happen. Make the break. Jump over the wall. Saw through those mind-forged manacles.
And if you have children, or grandchildren, no matter how carefully you may have raised them not to take Islam seriously, at some future date, after your death, one of them, or more than one, may return to Islam. That return to the real thing may even be in response to grief over your death, or in response to something -- loss of job, of status, of true love -- one of thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to, but when the prism of Islam remains in the house, to possibly be picked up and the universe viewed through it, then there is always the possibility of danger. One who continues to call himself a Believer, however seemingly relaxed and unobservant, however much he inculcates a certain skepticism in his (or her) own children, if you do not jettison, for your own sake, and for that of your children, Islam totally and permanently, you will always have to worry about what your children might do. Is that something you wish always to worry about, just because of some attachment to the memory of a pious uncle or grandmother, mixed up in your memory with the smells of certain foods, or certain rituals that seemed, at the time, so unthreatening, so divorced from anything bad? And yet, now you know. Now you can read the texts that not only members of Al Qaeda, but hundreds of millions of Muslims, not unobservant, not relaxed, not sophisticated, as you are, read and take seriously.
Ibn Warraq, Ali Sina, Anwar Shaikh, Azam Kamguian, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, whose names we do not know, have jettisoned Islam. Meanwhile, the economically and socially and psychically marginal, those with a grudge against their own societies, those who yearn for a Single Overwhelming Answer to their Spiritual Search, those who want a vehicle to justify their antisocial behavior in an Infidel society (and as Muslims, they can act as they want with the Infidels, for all is permitted), those who are akin to John Walker Lindh or David Hicks or Richard Reid -- look at their faces -- will join the army of Islam.
If you care about your children, ask yourself if the "Muslim-for-identification-purposes-only" Muslim goes far enough, or if you can do better.
And if you are from Iran, and believe that one does not drop an identity without assuming another, there is -- as the brave member of Parliament in the article above reminds us -- Zoroastrianism. It was good enough for Persia before the primitive Arab warriors arrived bearing their Arab "gift."
Time to return that "gift" -- or if you prefer, to exchange it.
And could you tell us, sir or madam, why you are exchanging the gift?
"It didn't fit."
Iranian leaders still haven't learned that when referring to non-Muslims, the politically correct term is "the other".
Actually, the term "the other" is not politically correct.
That term has been coined by Leftist Western anthropologists to identify and describe a xenophobic way of characterizing all peoples who are deemed to be foreign or outside of one's own culture. What makes these Western anthropologists "Leftist" is the fact that they add to this apparently neutral description of cultural psychology the supposed fact that the West has been the most egregious practitioner and abuser of the symbolism of "the Other" -- not only in regarding all non-Westerners as inferior, but also in using this sense of superiority to fuel their evil Colonialism and post-Colonialist American arrogance.
Our PC-dominated culture would be unable to even entertain the notion that Islam is the worst offender of this "the Other" symbolism, and that the West has been, of all cultures & civilizations in world history, the most progressive in trying to rethink and move beyond the tribalism and xenophobia that has afflicted all peoples on Earth since the dawn of time. Indeed, hundreds of millions of Westerners (most of them ordinary non-elites) would laugh at such a notion -- so profoundly has their public conscious been deformed by one or two generations of PC pedagogy.
Actually, the term "the other" is not politically correct.
Dr. Pepper,
I think I was being more facetious than anything else, but I stand corrected. Thank you.
Kurosh Niknam is certainly brave. What ever happended to all the Zoroastrians?...oh, right, the Muslims in that region spent much of their history killing off Zoroastrians, converting them and subjugating them.
As for the Ayatollah calling non-Muslims "sinful animals that roam the earth and engage in corruption," at least he is following the Koran, which say that non-Muslims are “worst of created beings” (98:6), are “miscreants” (2:99, 24:55), are the worst beasts in Allah’s sight (8:55), are “a folk without intelligence”/ “most ignorant” (8:65, 6:111), “evil” is upon them (16:27), evil (2:91, 2:99), liars/they lie (2:10, 9:42, 16:39, 16:105, 59:11), the “wrong-doers” (2:254, 5:45), on the side of the devil (Satan) and are fighting for him (4:76-77); “enemy” and “perverted” (63:4); “wicked” (80:42, 9:125)…“apes/apes and pigs”…(2:65-66, 5:58-60, 7:166)...well, you get the idea. (Sorry regular readers--I couldn't resist!).
As for non-Muslims roaming the earth and engaging in "corruption", I encourage readers, who have not already done so, to take a look at the Koran's verse 5:32. Also google "corruption on earth" + "death penalty."
Dehumanize the other. Make it easy to slaughter them. Be ready for the genocide, follow Allah's prophet, he knows best....
How was that Koran verse about slaughter again?
Something like "slaughter well and comfort your victim..."
Great Googlymoogly:
Why do we allow people who hold such views and follow such a belief- system to live amongst us?
Eschwapp,
The reason I pounced on that was that I'd seen people here at jihadwatch mention that "the other" reference before in the same vein. Thought I'd do my small part in helping to nip that one in the bud. However, it might help our cause if Muslims continued to use the phrase "the other", for the reasons I mentioned (though on the other hand, Leftists and those they have influenced through their sociopolitico-cultural domination are remarkably inoculated against contradictions that work against their PC worldview).
Actually, the first time the term 'The Other' came to my attention was in its application to Christians- as in we're all part of a reconstructionist/mad hatterist/illuminutti threat.
So long as people keep beating on that drum, they are lending aid and comfort to the enemy.
Here's a typical quote, from an anthropology student's paper I found on-line:
"Orientalism has made us realize the partial, and often very skewed, representations of the other in Western scholarship."
http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:2MfX9o-GxQYJ:www.us.oup.com/us/pdf/cultant/ohnuki-tierney.pdf+anthropology+culture+%22the+other%22&hl=en
This typifies the PC Leftist revision of Western thought, which has led us to the place we are now and have been in for the last generation or two -- where Islam is whitewashed as a matter of course, without a second (let alone a first) thought.
Kurosh Niknam, the Zoroastrian representative in the Iranian parliament says:
(Slap, slap)
"Not only are non-Muslims not sinful animals, but if Iran has an illustrious past and civilisation to feel good about, it owes this to those who lived in Iran before the arrival of Islam," said Niknam, adding that animals were owed an apology, "because those who sin and besmirch the earth are men who have no respect for God's other creatures."
Oh, yeah... bring this man a cigar..
Well it makes it so much easier to kill all non-Muslims as we are only animals or what was it Hitler said subhumans great evil minds think alike. Oh yes exterminate the Jews ditto as Hitler said. Why is this not taught in schools as the ultimate hate crime?
