In a well-regulated society, this would be enough to shut the entire mosque down. And that, in turn, would either force changes in what Muslims in Europe are permitted, or should they choose to preach race hatred, they can do so upon returning to their countries of origin. And what if they are born in Sweden? So what? Form a buyer's cartel. Just as Wal-Mart and big automakers are able to pressure their suppliers on pricing, perhaps OPIC could be formed to attempt something similar.

To acquire Swedish citizenship by birth, it is not sufficient to be born there; you need to have one Swedish parent (just had a baby there so do know). Also, I suspect most Muslims in Sweden were not born there. Assuming they came in legally - as "refugees" - it is then quite easy to acquire citizenship after 5 years residence. So perhaps the test for citizenship (if any) should be upgraded and the grant made revocable!

I'm increasingly amazed at the unfounded optimism of you guys here.

Tolerance is often invoked as a reason to help Muslims say and do what they like, practice their religion, etc. Yet so often the Muslims themselves are not tolerant. If the EU states were truly interested in tolerance, they would make being tolerant of the present inhabitants of the state a condition for obtaining residency rights, and even more so, for obtaining citizenship. How do they justify tolerating the intolerant, particularly those intolerant of those already resident in the state? A Talmudic saying has it:
Those who are merciful to the cruel, end up being cruel to the merciful.
Just replace the word cruel with intolerant. Or add the word "intolerant" to go along with "cruel."

Further, don't the EU states have sedition laws?
I am sure the UK has such laws. If they don't shut up the jihad-preaching imams in Britain, then that may mean that they don't want to enforce the law, that maybe the authorities favor jihad incitement.

I am optimistic that the rational can overcome the irrational. You are so right Hugh, citizenship should indeed have nothing to do with the accident of birth in these instances.However,so many countries have a problem with even rescinding the citizenships of people who have only been in a country for a few years and have no loyalty to that country.
It has to come that this becomes law, because citizenship in this instance has to be earned and those preaching hatred and evil have to be thrown back to the countries where they can practise their hatred.

OPEC, funny, I have been wanting to purchase a hybrid vehicle. Thinking that the less oil I use is a good thing. OK now that being said, legislation has it that now hybrid vehicles should be taxed, even down to the miles that I use. I dont want to sound morgue, but I really do fear for the Jews of the world. If the assimilation of Europe and Israel is completed, then a second 'final solution' could easily come to pass.

Optimism is fine, as long as it is founded on a realistic appraisal of the problem being faced.

In considering the problem of Western blindness to the problem of Islam, our optimism will actually be counter-productive (or ineffectual at best) if we persist in thinking that

a) there is a majority in the West on our side

b) the blind Westerners would quickly come to our side if they could just be given enough data about the problem of Islam

c) the Western blindness is only a problem of elites in powerful positions (the usual suspects -- Politicians, Media, and Academics) and not a far deeper and broader sociological/cultural problem affecting (and infecting) hundreds of millions of ordinary people

d) the Western blindness is primarily a problem of corruption and greed in the highest levels (the elites again, this time adding in Corporate Greed to the list of Usual Suspects), rather than primarily a problem of ideology (for without a deformation in ideology there would be little receptivity to pecuniary seductions)

e) the Americans are superior to, and somehow less blind than, the Europeans: there might be a handsome swathe of Heartland Americans who have a sociocultural inoculation against PC idiocy, but the last election splitting America into a 50/50 red/blue nation shows at least 50% who would insist Islam is not the problem; and I think a considerable proportion among the remaining 50% would, sadly, parrot that. (And this 50/50 split doesn't count the millions in America who are more or less apolitically apathetic and/or marginal kooks who, collectively, tend when prodded to lean to the Left and think America, and the West in general, is rotten to the core.)

How do you infer from the US presidential elections
the relative percentage of people who think Islam is not the problem? You're just making up that connection.

I think the number is worse than 50%, but I also
that progress is being made. Try and help with bringing the facts to people, but realize that
statistical inference is not your strong suit. That
can be fixed, but it's hard work.

Cuz nobody is asking for explanations. In other words, the Mainstream Media are enforcing a kind of self-censorship on the whole subject, ostensibly because it would be impolite and impolitic to criticize one's religion.

The irony, of course, is that Islam itself was founded on the most severe and murderous criticism of other religions, especially Judaism.

For Islam to become an issue in the forthcoming elections, a candidate must make it so via public pronouncements. But to do that is to invite murder.

Islam purports to be a religion. It is also, by its own confession, an ideology that encompasses political thought, i.e. it is at least in part a political ideology. Political ideologies that are not in harmony with and subordinate to the democratically established law of the land can justifiably be monitored, constrained and controlled.

Moreover, Muslim citizens showing preference to the laws governing the ummah to the detriment of the laws of their host country are behaving in an unlawful manner, varying from minor infractions of the peace, to criminal activity, to treason. Depending on where one's behavior registers on the scale, being stripped of citizenship and deported to a more compatible political climate (Saudi Arabia, for instance) doesn't sound unreasonable. In all cases, being held accountable for one's behavior is always to be expected, for Muslims and non-Muslim citizens alike.
