Jurors rejected a U.S. citizen's claim he was tortured by Saudi forces to extract a confession and found him guilty Tuesday of joining al-Qaida and plotting the assassination of President Bush.
Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 24, could be sentenced to life in prison on charges that include conspiracy to assassinate the president, conspiracy to hijack aircraft and providing support to al-Qaida.
Only COULD be given life in prison? I would think that plotting the assassination of the President would require a life sentence.
If he doesn't deserve a life sentence, who does?

I wonder if his family and friends laughed out loud in the courtroom when he was convicted the same way they did when the court initially read the charges.

IRAN: AYATOLLAHS INVITE CUBAN LEADER TO BECOME A MUSLIM
Tehran, 22 Nov. (AKI) - Iran's religious authorities in the holy Shiite city of Qom have officially invited Cuba's revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, to convert to Islam, according to Hojatolislam Mohammad Reza Hakimi, quoted by Iran's Farda news agency. "I met Castro together with the Iranian foreign minister, Saiid Salili, and gave him some sacred Islamic texts translated into Spanish," said Hakimi, who recently returned from a government visit to Cuba.
"We spoke with Castro for several hours, and I think I almost managed to convince him to become a Muslim," Hakimi added. "Castro certain that Cuba is suffering from a lack of spirituality, and seems very interested in Islam, above all in the writing of Iran's revolutionary leader, Ayatallah Khomeini," Hakimi continued.
Khomeini in 1989 invited Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of the Soviet Union, to renounce Communism and to convert to Islam. Gorbachev's political and economic reforms in the mid-1980s triggered the non-violent transition from authoritarian to democratic forms of government in Eastern Europe, and from state-controlled to more free-market economies.

Let's not forget the Brit with the Canadian passport, Sampson, who was arrested in Saudi, held in jail and tortured, raped daily by his three jailors, confessed to everything, and was totally innocent.
Eventually the Brit govt got Sampson out ( the Canadians did squat, and then claimed the glory ).
This muslem miscreant may well be a piece of moturd, but i sure wouldn't base that conclusion on any 'confession' extracted in a Saudi torture jail.
What a truely amazing paradoxical irony here with Islam and Muslims.
While presenting this facade or veneer of Peace and Justice being the base-tenets of Islam it is so odd that when a Muslim criminal is nailed solidly to the wall they revert to the excuse that a oppressive torturing Islamic Country used Sharia Law to punish them and beat a false confession out to prove guilt.
But this does beg the question of a possible Saudi connection to terrorism where they conspire with Al-Qeada to allow the "False confession" defense and create this ruse to fool the West and play into to bleeting heart leftists that only oppose violence when it suits their agenda. The Al-Qaeda handbook details this tactic to discredit any charges against them and re-enforce the Islamophobia and oppression of Muslims world wide.
So , Islam means Peace but the 1.2 billion Muslims stay mute on a Islamic Country torturing other Muslims and mete out Justice via Shria law.
I just wanted to make sure I understood how the whole thing works and what Islam is really about so I don't get fooled by all those fake Muslim that misunderstand the true beliefs of this Peaceful religion.

They are shoving our liberal democratic traditions up our collective kiester. The modern enlightened world of the West has an Achilles Heel. The rule of law requires the willing cooperation, in good faith, of the members of society who would realize that cooperation is in their best interest and would best assure them a free and secure life.
We are being "played" by people who, remorselessly, take advantage of our system, using it as a weapon to bring us down. There is no shame or dishonor in them for what they do, viewing us as inferior fools who provide them with the weapons of our own destruction.
As for the torture allegations referenced in the AQ handbook, that would only get a chance to work if the terrorist makes it to a courtroom.
