Mohammed Sidique Khan, one of the four apparent suicide bombers who attacked London on July 7, condemned British Muslim leaders on a video aired for the first time on Tuesday.
In the clip shown on Britain's Channel 4 television, Khan urged British Muslims to take part in jihad - "holy war" or "spiritual struggle" - and accused "so-called community leaders" of being "content with their Toyotas and their semi-detached houses".

Hi, I'm new here and having my eyes opened wide. I just started reading "Myth of islamic tolerance," and it's blowing me away. But my questions is, I love reading Rumi, and I have friends who know Sufi muslims, who don't buy into this at all, yet they reqad the same Koran the nut cases do. So can the Koran be read in the same spirit tht most Christians today read the Bible, realizing thqat a 2000-year-old document is not going to be compatible with modern society, but tqaking the wisom it teaches about love, compassion and brotherhood to heart?

There are indeed good and bad parts of either Koran or New Testament. However, it is necessary to look at the overall balance of good versus bad material, and the overall message of each.

Well, as long as you put the Koran through two modern filters:
1) it is not the literal words of God which God dictated to Mohammed through what my professor of the history of religion liked to call "the Divine Dictaphone Theory" -- rather it is a document containing human thoughts, perhaps none of them even written by Mohammed himself, and mostly written to justify the military conquest of people who resist the Truth that God communicated to Mohammed, with the relatively few passages about love, compassion and brotherhood referring exclusively only to people in the Muslim community, not to humanity outside the Muslim community
2) with #1 in mind, you take this human document mainly created to justify military conquest of non-Muslims and you
a) cut off all historical and cultural connections it has to the justification of military conquest and oppression of non-Muslims
b) re-interpret all its passages of military conquest and intolerant ideological supremacy as poetical allusions to other concepts completely unrelated to what they originally were about and to what they have been about for the last 1400 years.

There are no positive statements about disbelievers in the Koran.

As far as semi-detached houses go, we call them duplexes or condos where I'm from.
So Khan is basically saying the Muslims are settling for a simpler way of life at a time where the Caliphate is at hand!

How easily the words came from her mouth. The Iraqi female would-be suicide bomber, Sajida Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi, said so matter-of-factly that she saw the room was filled with women and children. Despite the fact that she knew she would be killing innocent children, Sajida attempted to detonate her bomb vest. Sajida stated, “There was a wedding at the hotel with children, women and men inside.” She sounded like she was commenting on the weather.
It was reported that Sajida seemed nervous in front of the cameras. Was she nervous in admitting that she had no guilt or second thoughts about what she had tried to do? Was she making excuses for herself by blaming her husband? “My husband planned it.” she said. She was just along for the ride, doing what she was told to do. Does this mean that Muslim women have no minds of their own? Does their strict obedience to their husbands absolve them of their sins?
The words of Sajida Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi, a Muslim, a woman, and a wife, demonstrate the inherent flaws of Islam. Absolute obedience to the husband overrides the primal female instinct to protect babies and children from harm. These babies and children were Muslim children. They were not even the babies of the enemy. They were innocent babies caught up in the hatred of Islam for those who support anyone or anything that Islam sees as a threat. Does this obedience to Islam obliterate the simplest sense of right and wrong? It seems that it does.
This abnormal mind is the mind of our enemy. It is the mind of a woman who can place herself next to playing toddlers and attempt to blow them up and tear their bodies apart with a bomb containing ball bearings. It is the mind of a man who can drive a car filled with explosives into a crowd of children eating ice cream with their fathers and kill them. As many Jordanian Muslims curse the name of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, some preface their hatred with statements such as: “I am not ashamed of what his group is doing fighting the U.S. occupation of Iraq, but killing civilians, killing Muslims here in Jordan is shaming.” They continue by implying that the killing innocent Iraqi Muslims is all right. The kidnapping and beheadings of civilians is understandable and slaughtering Iraqi police and military is just and reasonable, but bring the carnage to Jordan? That’s not acceptable.
Are the Iraqi police and National Guard members part of an “occupying force?” Are the Iraqi children playing in the streets an “occupying force?” Yet, many Jordanians feel there is nothing wrong with what al-Zarqawi was doing in Iraq. There, he was a hero. Muslim minds are warped by Islam to ignore the obvious, accept the unacceptable, and believe evil is good because some mullah or cleric tells them so.
Yet another variety of warped Islamic mind is the one that refuses to believe Muslims actually carry out attacks such as the one in Amman. The imam in the Maktoum Mosque told his listeners that those that carried out the attacks in Amman could not be Muslim, no matter what they called themselves. On the streets after the service, most agreed with the imam. No, it was not Muslims at all, they whispered, it had to be the Jews. There was even an erroneous and later-retracted story about how the Jordanian police escorted out all the Jews from the hotels just before the bombing. To these Muslims, this was proof it was the Jews. These Muslims believe that just as before the 9/11 attack, the Jews were warned and none came into work at the World Trade Center. This was proof to Muslims that it was the Jews that attacked America, not Muslims. Of course, that report was also false, but once heard, Muslims never accept a retraction. Yes, these mosque-goers agreed, it must have been Israeli agents and not Muslims that attacked their people and so, their pained, warped minds were put at ease.
Even after the attack last year at the Hilton Hotel in Taba, Egypt, where nearly all of the fatalities were Israeli, Gen. Fouad Allam, former director of state security in Egypt, made the statement that the attack was “to sophisticated” to have been carried out by anyone other than Israeli agents. Islam, as always, was innocent, proclaimed General Allam.
These warped minds are unable to accept that it is Islam that is responsible for the bombings and the slaughter. Always able to put the blame elsewhere for all of Islam’s crimes and problems, Muslims eagerly accept any and all excuses for the sins of Islam, no matter how illogical those excuses may be. If their warped minds can’t accept the fact that their “religion of peace” is to blame, the blame is pushed off on the Jews, or justified by claiming it was Islam that was attacked first. Denial is their first line of defense.
Within Islam, the killing of Muslims in other countries is not a crime if those Muslims are behaving in “un-Islamic” ways. If that country’s government has contact of any kind with the West, that is considered “un-Islamic.” Only killing Muslims in their own country is a crime. These Muslims then convince themselves that fellow Muslims would not do such a thing, so they point the finger of blame towards Israel. These warped Muslims believe Islam is always innocent. No matter how obvious the evidence showing otherwise, Islam is innocent. It must be. It has to be. Their twisted Islamic minds can accept nothing less.
Sadly, this is what happens to the human mind when it must be constantly bent and twisted to accept the unreasonable. The Muslim mind is twisted early in life and while there is hope that it can be made whole again, those who do recover must be willing to abandon friends and family because they will no longer be welcome.
The lucky ones will escape the insanity, and for them it is like being re-born. Their minds now clear of the maddening storm clouds of Islam, they will attempt to start a new life away from Islam. These few must move away from Islam—far away—because Islam will hunt them down and if they refuse to re-warp their minds to fit Islam, they are killed. Only in Islam is the abnormal mind accepted and the normal mind is killed.

Jay Rockefeller And The Run Of Logan's Writ
My new Daily Standard column comes out today, and I wrote about the stunning admission from ranking Senate Intelligence Committee Democrat Jay Rockefeller that he discussed American terror-war strategy with terrorist sponsor Bashar Assad. While the column does not call for a charge of treason, it does ask how Rockefeller can possibly avoid an indictment for a violation of the Logan Act:
If Rockefeller discussed war plans with Assad while the United States had begun military operations against global terrorist organizations, which Assad has been known to fund, surely it is a major breach of the senator's duties? The Logan Act, a piece of rarely enforced legislation, may be pertinent[.]
I wrote this article before reading Bill Bennett's column in National Review. I would go farther than Bennett suggests; at the least, I think the full Senate should consider expulsion just on the basis of his admission. In going to a known supporter of our enemies in a time of armed conflict and admittedly advising Assad on our approach, he could not help but to give Assad and our enemies valuable insight into our war footing. Stupidity, in this case, is not a defense.

Between 150,000 and 400,000 people live in polygamous households in France, in which a man is married to more than one woman. The French state is trying to change the situation -- with mixed results.
The government argues that living in polygamy prevents immigrants from becoming integrated into French society and that it goes against the principles of gender equality enshrined in the constitution. Polygamy was made illegal in France in 1993. Those who still live in polygamy have either been doing so since before the law was passed or they married abroad.
Though polygamy isn't very common in the northern Paris suburb of Cergy, most people in the African community there seem to know at least one polygamous family, usually with roots in Mali.
"I'm against polygamy, even though I'm African," explained Kofi Jumeau, who, along with his 43 brothers and sisters, could speak from first-hand experience. "My father had between nine and 11 wives. And unfortunately it really hurt us kids, because there was no family cohesion. It was really bad for us."
The French authorities employ a strategy they call "de-cohabitation" to reduce the numbers of polygamous households. It involves social workers helping second and third wives move into separate apartments with their children, breaking up the polygamous arrangement.
A personal issue
Mamalea Bapuwa is an intercultural mediator at the Association of African Women, one of the groups that helps women want to leave polygamous homes.
"It's a question of choice," she explained. "We can't push people in this direction. Once a woman has made up her mind and has decided she wants to de-cohabitate, she comes to see us."
The government offers women large, subsidized apartments to encourage them to leave polygamous families. They may also receive the 10-year-residence permits issued to other foreign residents. Polygamous families are only eligible for permits that must be renewed every year, which can make it difficult to find a job or travel internationally.

"I like living in a polygamous family. We aren't alone. We can discuss our problems. There are a lot of things I like," she said.
The French government, however, wants Camara to go a step further -- to divorce her husband. Only then, would she receive a 10-year residence permit. But Camara would rather be forced to renew her permit every year. She says she loves her husband and wants to stay married to him.

Brunel sponsored legislation last year calling for state tutors to manage the welfare benefits of polygamous families. Though the bill didn't pass, she did manage to draw attention to the issue of polygamy and continued to lobby her colleagues for more action in tackling it. There's now a growing sense that France's current policy isn't working, and that the country needs to take a tougher stance if it wants polygamy to become a thing of the past.

Experts who work with France's black community point to a different kind of family breakdown. Sonia Imloul of Respect 93, a non-governmental organization, says one of the biggest problems is polygamy, and cites the example of one family she knows with one father, four wives and thirty children, all living in the same standard 4-room apartment of French public housing.

We had some discussion about the BNP on DW / Chirac thread this week.
Its a real dilemna in Western Democracies - who do we vote for?
Whilst the BNP say all the right things about Islam, actually turning out to vote for them would be historically very difficult for me & many others, even as a protest vote.
I am sure it is the same in Europe too with their political right.
Also, having classed myself as English rather than British for so long it would also bother me greatly to vote for a party with "British" in its name.
The BNP / racist angle is interesting for me in the context of the UK's political & legal landscape. In the UK, it is illegal to form a political party with racism as a central policy of the party. You certainly cannot stand for an election or distribute political material if it breaches Race Relations Law - & quite right too.
So in effect the BNP are a legitimate, democratic party - or they would not exist as they do within the law, & within the UK electoral system.
The dangerous times we live in do call for dangerous solutions - I just wish the "undertone" of racial hatred was not there with them - hence giving others who do not mind the "British" in the party's name a choice & a chance for a protest vote. Lets face it, no other political party is speaking the whole truth where Islam is concerned - as we all know it.
If Le Penn gets a massive swing vote in France, I think a voter free fall to the right all across Europe is in the offing. Maybe this would be a good thing - scaring the bejeezus out of the social engineers that have so badly messed things up in England, Britain & Europe.

It would indeed. I'm not going to repeat my comments that I have posted several times before aboutthe BNP's roots in the old National Front, which lead to the British Nazi Party led by Colin Jordan which I remember from the 60s. Colin Jordan and his evil wife went to prison for torching a Jewish shop, in or around 1964, if I remember correctly.
Their website is appealing - beautiful children in St George Tshirts against a background of heritage coastline. They have no illusions about Islamism. They have joined forces with Sikh and Hindus (which I believe are small groups and that we are talking near individuals and not mainstream organisations) and, as Interested says, have at least one Jew in the ranks.
But when Nick Griffin holds up his arm, points to the white skin of his wrist and states that this is what defines him then you have to wonder. And doubt the protestations that the racist past is behind them.

Surprised?
No matter how much you quote from the koran, be it the verse or the whole chapter, or even the whole book itself, the Ahmeds and Sacranies will say it is taken out of context. And if that does not work, you will be labelled a bigot and islamophobe.
There is no point in debating with these islamic fanatics and bigots. They know nothing but the koran, their whole world view is that of the koran. It is not a surprise, that when we criticise their one and only guide in life, they react in confusion, leading to violent anger. This is aptly illustrated by the bizarre reaction over a few cartoons of mohammed. This has now become an international issue.
How to civilise the muslim, that is the question. The treatment has to take a form similar to taking a person of drugs. Replacement ideology in place of the koran in slow doses -- you know what I mean.
Or is it worth the trouble? Frankly I dont think it is. They have openly declared war on the realm, even threatening Her Majesty the Queen. They have even a muslim parliament in the UK. Both these are massive challenges to the founding institutions of the UK - the Crown and Parliament. I find it amazing (gob smacked really), that the authorities are taking this lying down and have not taken the appropriate action.

A moment’s reflection on the nature of islam and its history, would have given any sensible policy maker some pause for thought, before recommending mass immigration of muslims into Western countries. Muslims are enjoined to Jihad and is foolish of us to expect that they will refrain from doing so.
