The slant of the article tried to evoke sympathy for the rebel-without-a-clue Abu S'aid, with its suggestions that he has to constantly live under worry and cant even see his family. It made me smirk - as I was glad to read that he lives like a prisoner already, confined to his 'safe house'.

How glorious it will be when he is finally put in a proper cell, and made to live the remainder of his days, like he does now, without the ability to walk around freely. He can then wax phillosophically about the under-appreciated plight of "political martyrdom". Haa haa.

If the jailors wanted to be truly inhumane, they should force this dirt-bag to share a pig's pen on a kibbutz when he is finally captured. Oh the sweet taste of irony.

To summarize Mohideen, no Jews allowed (and for that matter neither are Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Shintoists, Sikhs, Zoroastrians (did I leave anyone out?), and Rastafarians, can not forget the Rastafarians (probably the purest form of spirituality around!), BUT Islam is for the "just treatment of all!"

Reports indicate that Iran is planning to assist Syria with its chemical warfare program. Iran will aid Syria in the development and initial operation of about five facilities for the production of sarin nerve agents, mustard blister agents, and even VX poison gas – the deadliest nerve agent ever created. With Iran’s help Syria hopes it can eventually achieve independent production capability.

Revelations about Syria’s chemical weapons program couldn’t come at a worse time. Currently Syria is under tremendous pressure from the international community to cooperate with UN investigators who are looking into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. The United States, Britain, and France, all permanent Security Council members, have proposed a resolution threatening tough sanctions on Syria if it doesn't cooperate with the UN probe. Hariri and 19 other individuals were killed in a bombing in Beirut in February. It is widely believed that Syria is directly responsible for Hariri’s death. However, instead of silencing an influential critic, Syria has made Hariri a martyr and brought international attention to the situation in Lebanon. Hariri’s death was the catalyst that brought about the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon. Syria removed its troops in April, ending its 29-year military presence in the war-torn nation.

Many experts believe that a large-scale confrontation between Israel and its neighbors could be on the near horizon. Thus making Syria’s growing relationship with nations such as Iran and Russia more concerning. Over the past year or so, partly as a consequence of the war in Iraq, Russia has been carefully cultivating ties with Turkey, Iran and Syria. After losing the Mid-East foothold provided by Saddam Hussein's Iraq, the Russians have been building a new axis of power based on those three key countries. Russia is now Turkey's second-largest trading partner, with a volume of $10 billion in trade per year. Russia has also strengthened ties with Iran by supplying it with nuclear-related technologies. Earlier this year Russia and Syria made plans to increase diplomatic and military cooperation. Russia wrote-off approximately 10 billion dollars of Syria’s Soviet-era debt and has supplied Syria with Russian made SA-18 surface-to-air missiles, in spite of Israel’s objections.

In a related development, the Palestinian Authority recently disclosed that Russian military experts have been sent to the Gaza Strip to train Palestinian security forces. In addition to training, Russia is prepared to provide the Palestinians with armored vehicles, ammunition, and helicopters. However Israel is adamantly opposed, and has refused to sign-off on the deal.

The increased military cooperation between the Palestinians, Syria, Iran, Russia, and Turkey could be a sign that the famed battle prophesied in Ezekiel 38 and 39 is on our near horizon. It is during this battle, that God will directly intercede to protect Israel from Magog and its allies. The Israeli general ran into a blank wall when he tried to persuade the Russian to withhold the missile from the Assad regime. Last January, when the deal was first broached, the Bush administration stepped in and obtained a promise from president Vladimir Putin to call off the sale, as did Israel’s Ariel Sharon during the Russian president’s visit in May.

For a speedy delivery in the first quarter of 2006, the Syrians paid cash.

The value of the transaction is unknown but it certainly runs into hundreds of million dollars, given that Syria has purchased 26 of the most advanced missile of its kind in use anywhere in the world.

The United States and NATO have code-named the Iskander SS-26 “Stone.” They have nothing in their missile arsenal to match its unique attributes.

With a 400-km range and a 480-kilo warhead composed of 54 elements, the missile hits a target within a 20-meter radius. Two missiles with a range of 280km are mounted on each launch pad. The system can be used against small and large targets alike, easily overcoming air defenses. It is almost impossible for existing electronic weapons systems to prevent the Iskander’s launch because of its speed and high flexibility. Its targets are found in mid-flight by satellites, accompanying airplanes, conventional intelligence centers or a lone soldier directing artillery fire. Targets may also be found by feeding photos into the missile’s computer by means of a scanner.

The self-direction device functions even in fog, darkness or storms. The name Iskander is Alexander (the Great) in the Turkoman language. Weighing 3,800 kilos it is operated by a crew of three.
