Hugh and Robert -- this announcement, and many others like it are fantastic. It is one more reason I still support the Iraq war, and the aftermath. We have forced the local Arabs in Iraq to contend with Al-Qaeda or be completely subsumed. It has always been their fight against the Islamists, not ours -- but prior to our Iraq project, you wouldn't have known it. With announcements like this from Al-Qaeda it couldn't be more clear that Arabs and Muslims must fight Al-Qaeda in Iraq, Egypt, Iran, and elsewhere.
The doom some fear if Iraq "fails" is a genuine concern for me. But if we "fail" in Iraq -- the first to suffer from the full viciousness of Al-Qaeda will be none other than the deplorable Muslims themselves who's religion hatched the thing. They would deserve every thing Al-Qaeda can dish out to them and more! Our problem would arise when Al-Qaeda consolidated its grip on the ME and begins using oil as the weapon it could be... I believe we can contend with that problem.
But who would have imagined that the majority of Al-Qaeda's targeting of bombings, murder, and mayhem would now be at the center of Arabdom just 4 short years after 9/11? This alone is a fantastic success. The critics are right in an inverted kind of way when they say there wasn't terrorism in Iraq prior to our "invasion". I would disagree with that exact assessment -- it is only the nature of Arab terrorism which is different. But our war has successfully brought their blight of Arab terrorism back to their doorstep! It now festers most in the center of the Arab world! THEY will be the first to be slaughtered by the fascists, which is as it should be. Up until this time, there was no stake whatsoever for Muslims in the ME to tamp down their hatred filled rhetoric, to modify their hatred filled religion, or stop funding the hatred filled terrorist expanding Arab Islam. Now, pronouncements such as this from their Islamic Frankenstein might give them serious pause. Will it? I don't know. They don't seem to be the brightest stars in humanity's firmament -- but if they don't wise up, and FAST, they are the ones most likely to suffer from tableaus featuriong heads on platters than we. This is only just!
Everything is a crime to these people EXCEPT murder.
MAYBE AL-Qaeda should try conducting experiments to see if they can convert trees into Muslims. They would probably make better Muslims than most people could.
