Islam has been "hurting the West" for 1350 years. It took over what was once a central part of the Christian world -- Mesopotamia, Syria, Egypt, the rest of North Africa. It took over the ancient homeland of the Jews, and apparently they who had endured the rule of Romans and Byzantines found the Muslim overlords so oppressive that many of them had to leave the Land of Israel -- which is why eventually 90% of the world's Jews ultimately came to live under Western Christendom, terrible as its own intermittent persecutions may have been, rather than live in the "paradise" of Islam.
Islam has been "hurting the West" ever since Muslims conquered Byzantium and destroyed its civilization -- though the flight of Greek scholars to the West, it is true, helped to spark the Revival of Learning.
Islam has been "hurting the West" of Christians and Jews, and "hurting the East" of Hindus and Buddhists, for as long as it has been in existence."No Islamic country can hurt the West"? Madrid, Beslan, New York, Washington and a thousand plots and subplots uncovered in recent years suggest otherwise. And what of the vast sums being expended now in Iraq, in a vain hope that "democracy" will remedy the situation, just as naive Israelis used to believe that making the desert bloom and bringing prosperity to one corner of the Middle East would serve as a "Light-Unto-the-Nations" as well, instead of as a horrifying example to Muslims of their own backwardness -- which was contra naturam, for by all the laws of Allah it was right, it was proper, it was just, that Islam "is to dominate and not to be dominated."
The presence of Muslims in the lands of the Infidels has, without question, already forced indigenous Infidels and non-indigenous non-Muslims (Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Confucians) to lead lives that are often far more unpleasant, unsettled, expensive, and dangerous, than they would be without the presence of Muslims -- "moderate" or "immoderate" in their beliefs, with the former always in danger, after some personal setback, of transforming into the latter, with all that that implies.
Don’t believe that Islam has been harming the West for 1350 years? Please read The Decline of Eastern Christianity Under Islam by Bat Ye'or. You will discover how the eastern half of Western civilization, which was in fact an equal inheritor of classical antiquity and the cradle of Christian civilization (where did Tertullian, where did St. Augustine come from, if not the Christian civilization of North Africa), was conquered in stages by Muslims. The conquerors in turn destroyed much of the physical evidence of that rich civilization (of course all sculpture and all paintings of living creatures had to go, but so did many churches and synagogues, and libraries and manuscripts). Then those members of the so-called "protected peoples" (protected from Muslims themselves) were subject to the many financial, social, and political disabilities, whose sum is the institution of dhimmitude. This led to the slow asphyxiation of all non-Muslim peoples under Islam, with their remaining remnants continuing to be persecuted everywhere that populations of non-Muslims exist, to one degree or another, throughout the lands where Islam prevails.
Why should anyone living in the U.K. or the rest of Europe, or the rest of the non-Muslim world, believe that things will be any different in the future?
No,no, perish the thought, no Islamic country can hurt the West, or France, they can only cross the borders in large numbers, overwhelm the local schools and also the prisons, remain unemployed and bankrupt the local welfare systems, burn cars and destroy property as they have done in France, this is not harm in any way it is only a peace-loving religion crying out for help. The term "Islamic country" is a trap. By and large, there is no such thing in the sense that we know what makes a country.
Yes, there are partial exceptions in that ethnicity and language can distinguish one Moslem-populated populated region from another, but all are first and foremost units within the Nation of Islam, with the Islam's hegemonic interests overriding local interests.

Acting toward Muslims with kindness and Christian charity: a tragic account
I write this brief account of my Coptic Egyptian family and the result of their kindness to Muslims to enlighten some of the kindly people on this forum to the danger of kindness to Muslims. Also, I am fed up by infidels on this board advocating on behalf of Muslims in the name of fairness, civility, and humanity. Moreover, as humans we learn more from stories than from abstract concepts, facts and figures which lack a human dimension.
I come from what was once considered a very wealthy family. My Great Great grandfather owned hundreds of acres of fertile land in Upper Egypt in which he grew cotton in the first years of the twentieth century. He was a kind old man, a devout convert to the Anglican faith from his native Coptic Orthodoxy. He was extremely generous and he gave to anyone who asked him without paying attention to the needy person’s religion. One day, a so called Muslim friend, a man who speculated in cotton on the cotton exchange and lost enormous amounts money which he owed to the exchange and his creditors, came to my kindly ancestor and asked him to sign a paper to guarantee his obligations or he will be ruined. He just needed time to set his affairs in order, or so he said. My grandfather trusted the man and felt sorry for him and his family, so he signed. Later, the Muslim man liquidated his assets and faked a backdated transfer to his family. My kindly Great Great Grandfather was left holding the Muslim man’s huge debts; his assets and all his earthly possessions were seized and sold in auction for pennies on the dollar, gobbled up by his “Muslim friends”. He lost his huge compound built by Italian architects and every last piece of his possessions. He was forced to move into a mud brick single story house and lived in abject poverty until his death. Yes, without exaggeration, from nearly a palace into a mud shack. He believed that he was acting as a Christian and bearing his cross in life like Job of old. His saintly wife never blamed him for his foolishness. It took his Grandchildren decades to claw themselves out of the hole that their grandfather have placed them in, working hard with honesty and perseverance until they became somewhat wealthy. However, some of them never learned from the stupidity of their ancestor and repeated his mistakes because they wanted to act like Christ. They handed their land to Muslim sharecroppers who were expelled from their village by a powerful Muslim clan. They were ragged refugees with children, so a relative of my grandfather gave them a small house in the front of the enclosed plaza inhabited by the extended family, becoming the only Muslim neighbors. That foolish relative died and his children died soon after… The once wretched Muslim family grew rich and powerful over the years, and they seized the vacated houses and lands of my distant relatives and tore them down and built a massive house. Over the years, they showed their true colors, becoming increasingly belligerent toward their Christian neighbors, making their life a living hell. The fact that they owe everything to the charity of Christian benefactors did not temper their Islamic hostility, but in fact it made it stronger because of the inferiority complex that they have. One time they shot my elderly grandfather in the shoulder with a shotgun and he miraculously survived. My uncle and his boys have the tragic fate of constantly battling the Muslim neighbors and their friends, which is a hanging death sentence on their heads.
In conclusion, with all due respect to Jesus Christ and his pacifist teachings, and all the kindly Christians working to elevate the suffering of Muslims, kindness to Muslim is the height of stupidity because to be kind to them is to be unkind to one’s descendents and the truly innocent victims of Islam who deserve the kindness, but alas, they get none. To take vipers to your breast is to invite a fetal venomous bite.
Islam is definitely hurting the West right now. As Hugh mentioned, it has destroyed a large chunk of Western civilization already and it seeks to destroy even more. Infidels of the West are constantly at pains to accomodate the Muslims' most ridiculous demands ranging from Danish cartoons of Muhammad to allowing for sharia tribunals. And we do it for the reasons have_mercy mentions, a secularized Christ-like tolerance because we think that they are oppressed when in reality, they are the oppressors. We are naive to think that they can learn our version of tolerance by showing deference to their easily excitable sensitivities. They reap the benefits and then they turn around and curse us for daring to have more wealth than them.
We must stop blaming ourselves for the sad state of Islamic society; all of its ills are self-imposed. We are as responsible for them inasmuch as we are for the phenomenon of cannibalism in some tribes. We cannot reform Islam. We cannot reform the Muslim masses and have them still remain "Muslim". It is impossible because the hatred towards infidels is sacralized and everlasting until Judgment Day. Opening our hearts (and our wallets) will not be effective and yet we keep trying to do this in order to "Westernize" Islam despite objections, not from the "radicals" or "Islamists", but from the masses that they hate the West and that they see it as a handmaiden of Shaytan. They only thing they like that is from the West are its possessions (because they see the possessions of the infidels are rightfully belonging to the ummah), not its ideas. We must admit that or we will be hurting ourselves by dropping our guard and letting Islam hurt us. Islam treats infidels with disdain and infidels treat Islam with sensitivity. If we cannot change our current policy towards Islam then we only have ourselves to blame for letting Islam dominate and destroy the West.
We can best use the following writings and sayings of our ancestors who lived long before the days of political correctness, or in the case of Winston Churchill, died in 1965, on the eve of the PC era. Examples are:

The worst thing is that if any modern day Western leader dared to write or say anything like what Churchill, Adams, Wesley, de Tocqueville or any of a thousand similar politicians or philosophers could say in their day, they would be crucified by an army of lawyers, journalists and many other apologists who make up the destructive PC brigade. This is why I am so pessimistic for the future and fearful of the world my descendants will grow up in.
Out of all the pc myths about Islam, the one that goes, "we don't have to worry because they can't really hurt us" is the most inane and annoying. It's like skeet shooting, Hugh. Every week or two there's a new msm myth for you to shoot down. That one was easy. I imagine you blowing into the barrel of your six shooter like John Wayne.
They can not only hurt us but bring us down. Just from 9/11 and the associated costs we would have a nice mission to Mars. There is no end to the cost accounting when it comes to Islam.
I find it easier and most accurate to just say that "The CULT of Islam, is the most evil cult ever on this planet".

All that I can say in response is "Deus Vult"!
The Muslims in the UK are becoming almost unbelievably confident and cocky. One of them with some sort of political influence (who cares who he is) has just suggested that second language teaching in our schools should switch from the "old" languages of French and German to the "new" (i.e., upcoming) languages of Arabic and Urdu. Presumably this is so that future waves of Muslim colonists won't have to bother learning English (not that this is exactly a universal accomplishment amongst them at present). It will also, of course, make us more suitable slaves when the takover is complete.
Incidentally, apparently, at least according to a BBC news programme yesterday, the Islamic terrorists (sorry, "Chechen seperatists", as they put it) were not responsible for the Beslan school massacre. Rather it was all the fault of the Russian military lobbing grenades or mortars into the school. I am quite prepared to believe in the incompetance of the Russian military and that perhaps there may indeed have been a cockup during the rescue attempt, but the BBC made no mention at all of the explosive devices that we all saw hanging from the ceiling in that terrible terrorist video, or of the fact that even if the Russian security forces did inadvertently kill some of the hostages, the ultimate responsibility for ALL of the deaths still resided with the terrorists and no one else.

Mohammad obviously learned well off his ancestor, they are using the customs, practices etc of today to further their religion,,, by the way, from what I can gather, Mohammads so called revelations didnt come from Allah, but from the arch angel Gabriel who brought them from Allah?? the god of the sword, agriculture and war, so even though all his earlier verses were of peace, tolerance and love, he obviously had intentions of taking the world by force even before he started his religion, as he chose a god of war etc... so as the article that I got this from says,,,, So there you have it. "Allah" is a f--king moon god of war who came from a stupid rock! And over one-billion people believe in this nonsense. Even though the first part of the Quran talked about love, tolerance, etc, until his numbers grew enough to become a force, he obviously had designs on war as that was the god he chose.

We got exactly the same report on the Beslan school massacre in Sydney, Australia.
Not one mention of the Islamic terorists or their explosives...rather, it was all the fault of the local Beslan authorities.
Absolutely sickening media reporting everywhere these days.
Also, since the fracas at Cronulla, there are at least two references in every news report to the Cronulla 'race' riots.
Every time I hear of a conviction to do with Cronulla, it is an anglo-saxon.
No mention of the 30-40 carloads of muslims leaving Lakemba mosque among shouts of 'Allah Akubar' the following night.
No mention of the police cars following that convoy all the way to Cronulla with lights flashing.
No mention that those police did NOTHING to interfere with the rampage of those Muslims that night or warn Cronulla residents of what was coming.
They invariably turned up ten minutes after the Muslims struck.
There were even eyewitness reports of police confiscating the weapons of these scum then letting them go...when people are being bashed into comas that night.
Hundreds of cars lining the main road were totally trashed.
No mention of the Aussies stabbed, no mention of the woman bashed unconcious with baseball bats just down the road at the pizzeria.
No mention of the man severly bashed with iron bars and baseball bats, in front of his ten year old son, as he put out the rubbish.
Bloody hell, what is going on?

I hope that those hotheaded Aussies at Cronulla realize that they handed the Muslims a spectacular propaganda victory on a plate. Every BBC news report referring to the incident blames it on "white supremacists" with no mention of why only Muslims (who are not a race) should have been targeted. This has actually made it even more difficult for any white person to stand up against Islamic imperialism. We have to learn to be far more clever and subtle in how we conduct our resistance.
