GAZA (Reuters) - Gunmen from the ruling Palestinian movement Fatah traded fire with police and shut election offices in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday in a new challenge to President Mahmoud Abbas ahead of next month's election.The gunmen demanded changes to the latest proposed list of election candidates, which was due to be submitted by Abbas on Wednesday as a way to patch up a damaging split between Fatah veterans and younger rivals.
The internal Palestinian squabbles, clashes with Israel, and the prospect of Israel's own elections early next year have stalled any hopes of peacemaking in the near future.
The growing violence has driven some officials to urge Abbas to postpone the election, in which Hamas Islamic militants stand to benefit from the confusion within long-dominant Fatah.
Could we please "stall peacemaking" indefinitely or until the Messiah comes or until the Greek kalends?

That the Fatah dissidents are demanding jobs specifically in the "security forces" shows several things.
1- the fomenters of disorder would form part of the "forces of order" [there are many terrorist already on the pal authority payroll]
2-- arafat and abbas' palestinian authority have not been caring for the unemployed, have not provided constructive work for them, although these unemployed might not want constructive jobs that might separate them from their beloved weapons.
3- the palest authority is a place of disorder. The Arabs are not at peace with themselves. How can they make peace with Israel?
4- the EU, USA, Japan, etc., have been putting huge sums into a corrupt political body that cannot even put on a convincing pretense of wanting peace.
But the money is sure to keep on coming.
Think about this, the so-called "Palestinians" have when whining and murdering for decades saying they want their own "state".The Israelis pull out and give them Gaza and what have they "Palestinians" accomplished? Instead of rolling up their sleeves and getting on with the work of building a nation. Here's what we know has been accomplished:
1. The greenhouses that were purchased for the "Palestinians" were looted and "Palestinians" have shown themselves too incompetent to run them.
2. Violence and anarchy is spreading in Gaza with murder, kidnapping and lawlessness being the order of the day.
3. Attacks on Israel have increased.
Does anyone believe the situation will be any different a year from now? Does anyone believe the "Palestinians" will have accomplished anything at all? I wonder why the US, UK and the rest of the Western world continues to give money to a "people" who aren't worth giving the time of day.
the latest heartwarming, nation-building story out of Gaza is that of the British "human rights" worker who was kidnapped there with her parents who had come to visit. It's quite possible, in my view, that some of the people she had been working with, set her up. Be that as it may, how come the UK govt doesn't do more to discourage their citizens from going there, where they either become part of the problem or become victims? It seems that this British girl did both.
The Foreign Orifice has indeed issued a warning to avoid Gaza, but what's the point when our media has completely brainwashed most of the populace with anti-israeli disinformation since day 1. Hence Christian groups up & down the UK have convinced themselves it's all the fault of those pesky Christ-murderers, & if only they send over a few more pensioners & students to stick their heads in the lion's mouth, maybe it'll stop biting.
If it'll wake Britain out of its masochistic stupor, maybe they're a worthwhile sacrifice. Sorry, but i can't feel much sympathy for these fools... Even if they're released their misplaced loyalties will likely be further fortified with Stockholm syndrome...
