I also remember from my days at the American Universty in Beirut that when something special was happening on campus there would be hundreds and hundreds of students taking part. In this case the room was barely filled, and even then it was filled with Hizballah loyalists and wannabes. Furthermore, the ass who was speaking could not be said to have anything other than a first rate islamic education...(aka a complete idiot). They majority therefore were probably not even students at the University. I am concerned that anyone can still be surprised by what went on at the university and what was said on the tape. That what muslims do...

I think he has a lot to say that you would find helpful -- how he has reconciled himself to what he was taught as a child and how he developed his understanding of the relations between the two faiths and what they could be, if only... (DW also published the first of two articles Dr. Sayyed wrote about his recent visit to Israel.)
Mohammed was a human being who made certain claims as other human beings have before him and since him to be bearers of the word of G_d. Who can really know if this is true or untrue of any of them, other than by analysing the lives they led and the legacy they have left.
And, certainly, Mohammed has lots of followers, but popularity alone isn't a good measure of the wholesomeness of anything is it? I haven't read much of the Qu'ran, but understand that its power arises much from the elegance of the language and imagery. Civilized nations have fallen to islam for 14 centuries. Virtually EVERY conquered civilization was more advanced, and some were far more advanced, than that of the conquering barbarians. Read Servier's book. As I have family with Lebanese heritage (Sarkis family), I was glad to hear your assessment about Lebanon. Sadly though, some of them are too willing to ascribe many of the problems to Israel not the increased Muslim population. They do have a good grasp of the interference by Syria and interestingly, according to the family matriarch, it'd been going on since early in the last century. She was amazed that the Syrians and Lebanese in America got along so well versus what was going on in the ME while she was there. I had always attributed it to the fact that the people who had emigrated were Christians of various stripes though she had passed away before I had ever gotten a chance to speak to her about it.
On a lighter note, many a morning I have been treated to shunkleash (a type of soft cheese) and eggs...yum! One of the things the family matriarch was well known for but unfortunately has been lost from the family was a great simple cookie with ground nuts and sugar inside a pastry...they called it sambousek though try as I might I haven't been able to find the recipe.

The good things that you believe, if they are truly good, cannot be ripped apart by anything anyone says here. The Koran (and Hadith and Sira) is just bad. There's no getting past it. One does not even have to argue; one just holds up example after example. Even the relatively small number of good verses only refer to goodness among Muslims.
As an Ahmadi, your real enemy is not the infidel, but the mainstream Sunni and Shia. And ultimately, your real enemy is Islam, the religion that you are not free to leave (due to apostacy taboo) nor practice (due to persecution from the other sects).

The wife-beating verse is in the Koran (verse 4:34 is 100% clear (beat, or hit, or scourge)). It is a divine commandment. Husbands are ordered to do it if they "fear disobedience" from their wives. The Bosnian Muslim Handzar and Kama Divisions were indoctrinated to kill Jews and Orthodox Serbs, who made up the bulk of the guerrilla and resistance movements, and who were associated with the enemies of the Third Reich, Communism and England,or as Heinrich Himmler termed it, the "common Jewish-Anglo-Bolshevik enemy". On March 1, 1944, the Grand Mufti issued from Berlin the following call to all Muslims: "Kill the Jews wherever you find them. This pleases God, history and religion. This saves your honor. God is with you."ÝMoreover, the Mufti called upon Bosnian Muslims to "take revenge and to punish" Bosnian Serb Orthodox Christians. Numerous eyewitness accounts testified that the Handzar Division committed the "worst atrocities against the Serbian population." In a photograph of troops of the Division, members are seen reading the pamphlet Islam und Judentum (Islam and Jewry), which explained the Nazi position on the Jewish Question and how it related to Muslims. These were prepared from the Mufti's schools and training centers in Germanythe Dresden school for Muslims in the Waffen SS, and the Goettingen school for Muslims in the German Wehrmacht.
Heinrich Himmler was determined to create the two Bosnian Muslim Waffen SS Divisions, although he met with opposition from the NDH regime and from sources within the SS itself. In a letter to Konstantin Kammerhofer, his SS representative in the NDH, he urged that 'strong steps' be taken to convince the NDH regime that is was supposed to be a puppet regime: "I expect to receive, by August 1, 1943, your report that the division, at a strength of about 26,000 men, is completely ready." Himmler ordered Gottlob Berger to send Kammerhofer two million Reichsmarks to fund the recruiting effort for the Handzar division. Unlike most SS officials, Himmler was convinced of the fighting ability of the Bosnian Muslims, partly from his understanding of the role of the Bosnian Muslims as soldiers in the Austro-Hungarian Imperial Army before and during World War I and his belief that Islam was an ideal religion for a soldier. Himmler stated to Joseph Goebbels that he hadÝ 'nothing against Islam because it educates the men in this Division for me and promises them heaven if they fight and are killed in action; a very practical and attractive religion for soldiers!'

On December 9, 1917, as World War I neared its end, Jerusalem surrendered to the British forces. Two days later General Allenby entered the Jaffa Gate on foot, at the head of a victory procession. Passing over your idiotic statements about the foreign French troops committing more atrocities (so you say) because they were Muslim and that Islam is “the perfect religion of war” because Himmler, obviously a person of a great intelligence who knew what he was talking about, said it, the stupidest thing you said was that the Bosnian units were dissolved because they killed too many Serbian civilians. You are right, the nazis cared a lot about the ennemy civilians, this is why they gazed 6 million Jews; this strict respect for innocent lives was especially seen in Russia, where they made a sistematic practice of expelling entires populations from their villages and let them starve to death in the middle of winter to establish their HQ in peace.
It was known during the war that it was common at least for the Albanians hired in the SS units, to actually wait until they got their weapons and then desert to return to their homes and watch for their families. As for one of these two Bosnian units, it was sent to France for training and during this the unit mutined and killed 8 german officers, marking the FIRST rebellion in the nazi army. Perhaps there was something they didn’t like? Before the nazi reinforcements came to take back the control of the unit, some of them were able to flee... AND HELPED FORM THE FRENCH RESISTANCE IN THE REGION! After that the unit was sent to Germany for precaution sake, and their training finished, shipped back to Bosnia. From this time to the end of the war, only a small number of Bosniacs remained with the nazis until the end, as the others had either returned to their homes… or HAD JOINED TITO PARTISANS!
The obsession, almost sickly, that people has to accuse Muslims of about just anything is highly disturbing. In 50 years the new revisionism will say that actually Hitler was inspired by Islam when he stated his policy of extermination, that the genocide was the product of Islamism influence in the nazi government, and that it was actually the Muslims who were the main responsible for the Holocaust.

Hold on Naseem, I never said you weren't a "nice" person! In fact, I think you are a very nice person and considering the contempt for Islam that is expressed here, (completely justified, I might add) the restraint you exercise in response to our invective is quite admirable. I couldn't do it.
I'm certainly not a mindreader, but the contents of your posts indicate to me that you are a fair, compassionate, generous person, well-educated and tolerant of other faiths and cultures. You have obviously been exposed to cultures other than your own and I would venture to speculate that you didn't find them as offensive as you expected.
This is just a guess and I could be wrong, but I think you ignore many of Islam's more bellicose and intolerant edicts because in your heart you know they are wrong. There is a sense of true decency about you that is evident by the words you choose when you write. I never stated that you aren't a nice person. It must have been someone else.

Of course, others besides Muslims committed atrocities during WW2 and the Holocaust, in particular the Croat Ustashi govt [called NDH above] which ruled Croatia and Bosnia under German Nazi supervision. The Ustashi had their own concentration camp/death camp called Jasenovac where they murdered scores of thousands of Serbs, Jews, and Gypsies. And the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin el-Husseini, worked closely with them and the Handschar [or Handzar] SS division worked in cooperation with them. The Handschar was disbanded [according to Geo. Stein's book, The Waffen SS] because it was militarily ineffective and poorly disciplined, not because it killed Jews. Now the beef against the Arabs/Muslims is not that they alone were guilty of the Holocaust or of starting WW2. But they played a role in the war up to the limits of their capabilities at that time. Husseini was a staunch advocate of mass murder, as he is quoted above by another poster. Moreover, as to ideologically inspiring Hitler, yes, he did get some of his inspiration from the Muslim theologian, Muhammad `Inayat Allah Khan. I don't consider the Arabs/Muslims the sole guilty parties. But what I would like is for the Muslims and the Arabs in particular to admit their role in the encouraging Hitler and the Holocaust. Otherwise, there really is no chance for peace between Israel and the Arabs, or between the Muslims and the non-Muslims of the world.
