Iran threatens counter-strike

From YNET News:

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman says recent Israeli statements on Iran's nuclear project show Israeli government is frustrated from failure to bring international community to pressure Iran: 'Zionist authorities are well aware that if they make a foolish mistake against Iran, Iran's harsh response will be destructive and determined' - Roee Nahmias

An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, Hamid Riza Asaffi, speaking with journalists in Teheran, said that recent Israeli statements on Iran's nuclear project showed that the Israeli government is frustrated from a failure to bring pressure from the international community to on Iran.

He claimed that a "serious crisis" within the "Zionist authorities" was the main factor behind what he described as Israeli threats. His comments were reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency.

"Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman says recent Israeli statements on Iran's nuclear project show Israeli government is frustrated from failure to bring international community to pressure Iran..."

Well, that much is probably correct. President Bush and his anti-Israel State Department have displayed zero lack of leadership in confronting a nuclear armed Iran. Rather than lead on this issue, they have given that role to the EU. The EU's response has been to wait...wait...write a letter...wait...wait...write another letter...wait..wait...wait...write another letter.
Of course, as long as the EU sees a nuclear armed Iran as a threat just to Israel and not to itself, then expect nothing from them or the UN for that matter. Would either organization use military force to prevent Iran from attacking Israel? Sure, when pigs fly...

"IRAN'S RESPONSE WILL BE DESTRUCTIVE AND DETERMINED."
Gee- they are going to send the Burka Brigade of Martyrs! Those black clad 'birds of ill omen' might frighten Mohammed but not the Jews. AIM,STEADY, FIRE Boys - if you can do it in Iraq you can manage Iran.
P.S. Please drop something lethal on Mecca & Medina : this way World War 3 and clash of Civilizations will be over in no time...

Uhm.

Israel- *Stomp*

Iran - *gone*

Why can't this guy be serious?

It is intolerable, it is disgusting, that the entire Western world is waiting for Israel, tiny, and permanently vulnerable, to do the deed that it will not or cannot dare do itself. Is the American government so indifferent to Israel's fate that yet again it is going to wait for the Israelis to take all the risks, and to face the odium and the retaliation which, being in the immediate neighborhood, it is least able to bear compared to mighty countries over mighty seas, with mighty air forces and mighty Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles? Is that what the tarbaby of Iraq now means -- that the Americans simply cannot deal with Iran, and will leave it up to Israel, slightly larger than Connecticut, with a very large internal population of Muslims, further surrounded by Muslims on every side except the sea, and permanently condemned to that neighborhood? Is that the American strategy? Leave dealing with this threat to all Infidels everywhere up to Israel, even as the Administration keeps twisting Israel's arm about giving more, more, more concessions to the "Palestinians" (today it is ending Israeli control over the Rafah crossing, which now represents a grave security threat to Israel that the Americans would not themselves tolerate for a minute, and would be enraged if anyone presumed to tell them what to do about their own security -- and tomorrow?).

In the last scene of "Shane," having dispatched the gang of villains, not quite alone but almost, and disgusted with the townsfolk, Gary Cooper throws down his badge and walks away. Israel, unfortunately, cannot do that, much as it might like to. If the United States, the greatest military power that has ever existed, cannot soon inflict great damage on the nuclear project of the primitive and dangerous Islamic Republic of Iran, then exaclty what is that military power all about? Making Iraq safe for the Shi'a to rule -- or is it now, making sure that Iraq is safe and wonderful for the Sunnis and Shi'a together. God knows what it is. Such squandering and misallocation of military and other resources, such timidity about the Jihad, and such seeming (perhaps I am wrong, perhaps something is planned and is afoot, as it should be) dereliction of duty, on the part of this famous "superpower" we hear so much about -- caught in the tarbaby of Iraq, and determined to deal with false problems ("instability" and "civil war" in Iraq is, from our point of view, an entirely false problem) because the administration is tongue-tied, and confused, about dealing with real ones.

Hey Hugh, I agree with everything you say except I think it was Alan Ladd and not Gary Cooper who played "Shane".

Iran is definitely a time sensitive issue.

Unless confronted forcefully, Iran will indeed become the "rabid monkey with a handgrenade" on the geopolitical stage. Once that genie is out of the bottle, global jihad will never be the same.

"Dead Continent Walking" Europe will, in the best case scenario do nothing. Europeans, true to form, will more likely be the greatest obstacle to decisive action. They are hell-bent on extinction by dhimitude and must not be allowed to negotiate the rest of us into hell with them.

Israel has been put on notice that they are marked by islam to share the fates of their 21st century European Jewish relatives. It would be safe to wager that they do not take such definitive threats lightly nor plan to march like sheep into the thermonuclear oven being prepared for them. If nobody else acts, Israel will. If Israel acts, I honestly believe the U.S. will back them. They will not act alone.

Cynics will disagree. I hope they are wrong.

Alan Ladd? Do I have the right movie?Maybe I mean "High Noon" and not "Shane." Well, I hope I can be forgiven. The one where after the final shoot-out, the one where he has to suddenly turn and shoot from a second-floor window a man who dramatically dies and dives, still clutching his rifle, to the ground below, and then of course there is also the bad guy who is shot not by the law man or good-gunslinger-with-a-heart-of-gold, but rather by the lady who loves him and will, unlike all the respectable townsfolk, help out when almost everyone else won't lift a finger, and we see her standing there, with her rifle, just after she's made her deadly shot, and...well, you know.

Was it Cooper and "High Noon" or Alan Ladd in "Shane" I'm thinking of. I have to know. Help.

High Noon and Cooper

these Iranians are no fools.. know how to bluff their way into everything...

So did the USSR. And Cuba and venezuela now. China too, btw. Mercifully, everybody's seen through N Korea's attempts at bluffing the rest of the world (except denizens of some ivy league ivory towers, seems like).

Nice part is islam's bluffing is hitting saturation point. just too many events going against their claims.

If Israel nukes Iran, I will fly an Israeli flag on my car. I have Old Glory there now, and I would usually never think of putting anything else there with her, but for that, I'd make an exception!

I think most sane Americans would support an
Israeli first strike. I don't know how helpful it would be though, apparently the reactors are
dispersed and deep underground. Probably the
major cities, ports and industrial areas need
to be wiped out. That sucks, because many Iranians are not Islamonazi scum, but that's how I see it.

Thank you, bob the good. I can rest easy tonight.

Hello all,

I thought that most people would be pleased to see a statement like this. It is a position statement by the Iranians. You would have thought that they would have had enough during the Iran-Iraq war and I'm sure that they have...its bluster.

Israel is the strongest nation in the ME. It knows how to survive. If they feel under threat let them act..... even if it is first.

But seeing this is a "local" ME issue and I respect the US position on this. They have stayed out the way and they must keep their butt respectfully out. Instead they need to focus on internal issues of Schools, roads and the needy.
The people of New Orleans have a right to expect.

Iran is thousands of miles away and hundreds of years back. Much better to try & persuade the likes of Russia to stop selling weapons to Iran.

I do agree that that the US helps financially to Israel to fortify positions and develop defence systems....but no more.

Iranian words are just bluster. How serious can you take them if they want to write a letter (to the lost twelver) and bury it underground.

What ever will take place is the will of Allah (swt) the almighty. Although all the peoples here will ask the US to intervene...it shall not be so. I only pray for peace and hope that we all see it everywhere.

Iran is only "months away from having a nuclear bomb" soon it will be weeks, then right after Christmas, days away. While Americans are mindlessly chasing after the latest sale in the malls the whole world is sleepwalking towards Armageddon which is fast approaching.

"And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour."
Revelation 8, 1.

"Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth."
Revelation 8,13

"While Americans are mindlessly chasing after the latest sale in the malls the whole world is sleepwalking towards Armageddon which is fast approaching."

And...........Don't forget the whole American Political Election Process for Congress and the President will begin again in 2006. The Iranians know this and they are playing their hand like they did under Jimmy Carter. They know that the politicians running for office will be so busy tearing down the current administration... that neither party will have the balls to react until they secure their little nests in D.C. In the meantime.....they are willing to let others stick their necks out to see which way the nuclear fallout is heading.

What is wrong with the civilized world, that it allows mad mullahs in Iran to threaten the only democratic state in the middle east? Why is there no concerted action by all democratic states to stop the nuclear ambitions of Iran? what are we waiting for? the destruction of Israel as predicted by that savage in charge of Iran or are we waiting for the tiny country of Israel to defend itself while we pay lip service to world peace.?

Violetti, Cuba is not a threat (except to die hard Right wing ideologues) but I perceive no manner in which Cuba could threaten America. In fact if the embargo was lifted, Castro would soon be out of power, because Castro uses the embargo to justify the lack of an economy and and economic misery (Damn Yanqui's and their embargo) meanwhile he gets all he wants, as does the Cuban elite and government, by shopping in the Free Trade Zone in Colon, Panama.

So the embargo doesn't hurt him and the elite, just the Cuban people, but the embargo is what keeps him in power.

As regards Venezuela, what is YOUR problem there, outside of swallowing all of the neo liberal and administration propaganda.. are you at all aware that the policies of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, that were designed to force South American countries to privatize their national resources (like water and oil) hurt the peasants, the working classes, even the middle classes. and were the cause of street riots and revoltes?

Bolivia was forced to privatize water, and who bought up the water? Bechtel. Another Cheney Bush connected enterprise.

The only problem with Venezuela, is the one created by this administration as it tried to force it to privatize it's petroleum and water (and two guesses who the new owners would be)

Those self same American oil companies that were privileged members of the still secret,Cheney Energy Conference.

You spent too much time on Free Republic and obviously have a penchant to believe all of the propaganda. (FR is run by Jim Robinson, who is financed by the RNC and will ban in a flash anyone who disputes the party line or posts anything negative about Bush and the RNC).

RE: President Bush and his anti-Israel State Department have displayed zero lack of leadership in confronting a nuclear armed Iran. Rather than lead on this issue, they have given that role to the EU.

The US would be vilified if it did anything to Iran now. But when the EU fails, then we can claim justification for taking on Iran.

Bush has already stated that he will not permit an nuclear Iran.
