Iraqis hand over 'the Butcher,' high-ranking Al Qaeda member

Good news from Iraq from Fox News via KHON2, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi citizens turned over a high-ranking Al Qaeda member known as "the Butcher" to U.S. forces in Ramadi Friday a military statement said.

Amir Khalaf Fanus was No. 3 on the 28th Infantry Division's High Value Individual list for Ramadi, wanted for murder and kidnapping in connection with his affiliation with Al Qaeda in Iraq.

"He is the highest ranking Al Qaeda in Iraq member to be turned into Iraqi and U.S. officials by local citizens," Capt. Jeffrey S. Pool said in a statement released from Camp Blue Diamond in Ramadi. "His capture is another indication that the local citizens tire of the insurgents' presence within their community."

Good. Hope it keeps up.

Now wait for the "human rights" organizations (AI, HRW etc) start making complaints about his arrest and Europeans forming "truth commissions" to find out who arrested him, and why, and how, and whether European airports were used when he was transported to interrogations. Another international "human rights" commission will be formed to make sure that he is treated with due respect.

Lot's of folks are going to have to come to grips with Iraqui sovereignty; those in the West won't be the hardest pressed.
Those in the Middle East will face a wealthy nation whose military has been trained by the best, European and American forces: docterine and structure.

We'll have to wait and see, what transpires. Was the expense worth tha bauble? Lord, I hope my feeling is wrong...

Don

Now if they would only hand over zawkari and his bunch........it is actually encouring to see some Iraqi's doing the right things and MSM reporting same.

"His capture is another indication that the local citizens tire of the insurgents' presence within their community."
--from the article

That should read:

"His capture is another indication that the local citizens tire of the insurgents attacking their community."

Their presence is ok, just as long as they are attacking infidels, not Muslims, because that's just not nice.

I believe that we need a policy of not taking high-ranking opponents alive. This is because of the pathetic state of the justice system.

Rewards for high-ranking members of the opposition should be substantially lowered for anyone turned in - alive.

Just as some people can't handle the truth, some organizations can't handle (living) enemy captives.

As Ramadi is one of the Sunni Hot Spots this is
encouraging news indeed. We live in hope that situation will improve in Iraq but don't expect
it to become a MULTICULTURAL SECULAR
DEMOCRACY PARADISE any more than PIGS CAN FLY!

To Donald Jackson and like minded citizens of USA.

Do NOT be too concerned about the reported costs of the USA war effort in Iraq, Afghanistan etc.

Just ask yourselves where the money is - is it in Iraq, Afghanistan (etc) ???

OR

is it STILL floating around in the USA and supporting the USA economy.

THAT is the PRACTICALLITY of a 'war' effort - it stimulates the economy of those countries who are fully self supporting.

Loss of man power - YES - that is a finite loss, yet in military terms (and I mean no insult to those grieving families and friends of those who have lost their lives) the loss of life is minimal - though I do wonder how many of us FREEDOM LOVING westerners need to die before we can achieve peace. We have a LONG way to go before Islam is tamed.

Loss of materials ? - SCRAP VALUE - only - with more orders for replacements to ensure the fighting forces get their equipment (and USA economy remains healthy).

The free world had to deal with Germany and Japan and look at them now - a threat ??? - NO !! - strong FREEDOM LOVING countries every bit the same as the so called west - eventually whole world WILL BE FREE.

You lose an F111 - scrap value !!

We (Australia) lose an F111 - MILLIONS of Aussie $$$ !!

BIG DIFFERENCE

DOG !!

A little alarmist aren't you?

Wait and see, then complain.

Then again you could be correct, I saw some names of the leaders of these Human Rights Watch committees, and they looked Muslim to me.

The Muslims know a good shtick when they see it, and have moved into "Human Rights", I heard an interview with a Syrian "Human Rights Activist"the guy was a raving Islamist, all it takes these days is to claim to be a champion of human rights to get air time.

It's always the case. Build a tool to build a home, and the cretin comes along and uses the tool to tear down the home.

ACLU created to protect the civil rights of Jews, Blacks and other minorities, now the Muslims are using the tool to destroy those whom the tool was created for.

Too bad humans aren't more far sighted, they could avoid unintended adverse consequences.

I too was elated at this news but had somewhat of a damper put on my enthusiasm when I learned that the residents turned him in because he was terrorizing *them.* It is still a positive turn of events. I hope we find a way to reward them (running water, sewers, a new park) so they see the value of cooperating with us.

Throughout history, "insurgents" need, as their absolute primary requirement, a sympathetic populace. A major purpose of terror activity, besides the broader goals of economic and psychological damage and the breaking of the will of the opponent, is to provoke the other side into harsh retaliations which push the population, the target of the retaliation since the terrorists have faded away, farther into the "insurgent's" camp. The sympathetic population provides cover, aid, intelligence, material support, and allows for a certain freedom of movement. This reality is evident thoughout the history of insurgencies, whatever the driving force, be it Communism, Islam, or whatever. This is fundamental to insurgencies.

I believe the Greek Communists after WW2 and one of the Phillipine insurgencies(don't have my books at the moment) are good examples where this crucial facet was missing or lost and subsequently doomed the movements.

First steps though these incidents may be, if they are indicative of a majority Iraqi attitude, this may be very good news, in the LONG run.
