Hot on the heels of their great Al-Arian victory, another triumph for dimwitted, dhimmi law enforcement. They were probably too worried about "profiling" to keep him in custody or charge him with anything. They don't even seem to have paid any attention to where he was going with those explosive shoes, or why. Keystone Kops Alert: "EXCLUSIVE: Shoe Bomber Alert Preceded Airport Shooting Egyptian Man Had Been Stopped at New York Airport; Shoes Tested Positive for Explosive," from ABCNews, with thanks to Mrs. Obelix:
Dec. 7, 2005 — - Federal law enforcement sources tell ABC News they had been on the alert for a possible shoe bomber when a federal air marshal opened fire at the Miami International Airport today. In today's incident, an agitated passenger claiming to have a bomb in his backpack was shot and killed by a federal air marshal, officials said. No bomb was found.
Officials say a 50-year-old Egyptian man was stopped six days ago at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport. Sources say he had a suspicious pair of shoes that tested positive five times for the explosive substance TATP on the interior of his shoes between the heel and sole.
Federal officials say the man's shoes are remarkably similar to those used by shoe bomber Richard Reid, who attempted to blow up an American Airlines jet over the Atlantic four years ago.
The Egyptian man's destination was Des Moines, Iowa, sources say, and he claimed he was a student at Iowa State University in Ames.
Strangely, after holding him overnight, airport security in New York released him. The FBI was notified after he was released. Now the FBI has put out a nationwide alert.
Hey, that makes me feel safer.
The response of some airports has been remarkable. After the events of 9/11/2001, a certain major airport put in a prominent position a hijabbed lady. Now perhaps, you will say, this is mere public relations. Something meant to put Muslims at their ease, something to signal that "we are all in this together" and we trust "good Muslims" in positions where they will participating in security work. But what about the overall effect of this? Does this not reinforce false ideas about the essential goodness, trustworthiness, and so on and so forth about Muslims, the very things about which there is so much ignorant trust? Should not a harder and more obviously harder and harsher attitude, be displayed, or at least we should not have to worry, we Infidels, about the possibliity that the mere desire to be "nice" can lead not only to this outward and visible sign of "there's nothing wrong with a Muslima who feels so strongly about Islam that even here she insists on wearing a hijab doing passport or other checks" could lead, elsewhere, to a too-great indulgence that, in the circumstances, is if not always and everywhere life-threatening, if it becomes a general proposition, is life and civilization-threatening.
No more nice guy nonsense. No more "there's no real problem with Muslims doing security work." No more releases after being held overnight. No more Keystone Koppery at every level. For god's sake. Please.
This is very hard for me to believe.
Either this is disinformation to contextualize the shooting at Miami International Airport or it stands alone as possibly the greatest act of incompetence on the part of officialdom since the "war on terror" began.
Constantinople is 100 per cent correct. Somebody should really take it up the keyster over this one.
The FBI is filled with agents of questionable loyalties, PC doctrine, Islamic tolerance seminars, political hacks, and HizbAllah sympathizers. Those who try to do their job seem to end up as ignored whistleblowers.
Fifty year old EQYPTIAN college student?
Uh huh.
Dear Robert: Is it productive to refer to the "dimwitted, dhimmi law enforcement"? I am CERTAIN they want to do their job! They are hamstrung by citizen "watch" committees, PC functionaries, and paranoid politicians -- Every move these men and women make is examined with a high powered magnifying lens and practically proctological exams of their life, personal finances, church affiliations. After the fact, their professional conduct is treated as a probable crime against humanity. There is no proportionality it seems, either in the public discourse regarding their conduct, or references such as the one made in this posting above.
Today, for example, the sky marshalls who shot this insane "bipolar" backpack wearing "I have a bomb" screaming maniac are on "paid administrative leave pending review..." Refer to above to learn what this might entail for these gentlemen. Who wants to be subjected to that after admirably "executing" your duties?!? It's not the police, it's the leadership, and the overbearing community "watchdogs" who police the police with the ferocity of gauleiters on crack.
Perhaps those folks at JFK had seen "Flight Plan" If so, they understand that the people who really need to be investigated and detained, if necessary, are the air marshalls and the flight crew. That poor Egyptian student with traces of TATP in his shoes is an innocent victim of racial profiling.
Why was this guy released? Was he too small? Did the border officers catch their limit for the day?
By the way, it was NOT the FBI who released him. It was the TSA. I still think most FBI agents are competent and nearly all remain loyal to their country. The TSA is, and always has been, a foul joke. They let the muslim bastard go because they had too many Christian grandmothers in wheelchairs waiting to be strip-searched.
We keep pretending that Islam is peace and love and kumbaya...
Our politicans are whores to the politically correct media, so this will not get better any time soon.
Terrorists will continue to be let go, coddled, supported, and even given safe haven by those on the deluded side of political correctness.
PC is the twisted disease of an amazingly good system of Judeo-Christian inclusion and tolerance. We brought it on ourselves, but that doesn't mean we need to fear it. That doesn't mean we need to kneel at the fount of politically correct drivel as our politicians and decison-makers do.
Islam cannot ever condone and/or co-habit with democracy. As the author Mark Alexander so succintly put, Islam and democracy are "immiscible."
Until we take a stand against the disease of political correctness that blinds us to our enemy, we will continue to be grieved over these injustices.
The article says that "airport security" released this man. If that is the case these could have been "security guards" who in many cases are low level poorly trained people in uniform.Often these guards make minimum wage. "Security guards" should not be confused with professionally trained law enforcement on the federal, state and local levels.
unfortunately it will take another jet crash, bombing etc for the pc crowd in wash to let the airport get serious! some members in government particular the democrats, left environmental wackos etc. want to forget about 9-ll, and put handcuffs on the forces those who want to protect tbe country.
But the locals did screw this one up.

"Fifty year old EQYPTIAN college student.."
-- from a posting above
It could be true. Anything is possible. An attractive life, that of the "eternal" or "ewige" or "vechnij" student" -- course after course, year after year. If you are an alien, and your government or the Infidel host government, or the university in question, or the terrorist organization in question, is paying your room and board, then as that "student" enjoys a long stay, with the promise of student visas being stamped, renewed, stamped, renewed, stamped, renewed. What, from that eternal student's point of view, could be better?
This has been all over the news today and there's something that nobody seems to mention: the wife was shouting that the guy's bi-polar and doesn't have his medication. Why? How could anyone plan a trip and not taking the necessary prescriptions with them? I know of people who take multiple prescriptions for various things and are sure to refill and take extra with them on a trip -why didn't they do the same here?
There are certain things you don't do. You don't go yelling fire in a crowded theatre, nor do you claim to have a bomb on your person in an airport post 911, so this guy got what was inevitable. Unfortunately, there seems to be negligence on the wife's part, if nothing else.
If I had a loved one who was seriously ill and we were planning a trip, there's no way anything like this would happen under my watch, so I recommend more be looked into the wife.
Any insurance policies taken out on the husband recently ...?

Better apply some of that exteme diligence to the spelling of 'laxidasical' ...
jsla makes some good points.
The MSM screams every time a guard looks askance at somebody who might be suspicious, then they scream that GWB isn't "protecting us." How the heck do they expect law enforcement to get the job done when they take away the very tools that the police need? How do they expect law enforcement to protect both the USA *and* the "feelings" of those who wish to destroy it?
"Profiling" used to be called good detectivework. I suppose that the next time somebody is cheated by Wall Street, the ACLU will ask the NYPD to look in Spanish Harlem for the culprit.
Beagle -
I hope that the FBI agents attending these muslim sensitivity classes are taking copious notes. They will be handy when we begin the deportations.
Beagle, I stand by what I said. Yes, I had read about the incident you mentioned, but the Justice Dept still remains trustworthy, for the most part, as does the military. The State Dept has, unfortunately, been sold to the enemy.
If anyone is collaborating with the terrorists Constantinople it is the wimpy US government. The State department and INS are major culprits and can take a bow. As are overburdened law-enforcement agencies (who are still struggling to keep up with demands placed on them by the idiotic US "War on Drugs" which amounts to taxation without representation and collaboration with global terrorist networks, criminal cartels and Third World dictators--and which we can thank our Republican lobbyist-friends from the Bible Belt for). The FBI is a good example of such an over-burdened law-enforcement agency. Note the "Able Danger" scandal recently. The problem may really be that the government and law-enforcement officials are spreading their resources too thin.
Seeing what a piss-poor job the US government is doing overseeing and allegedly protecting Americans from jihadists who have NO TROUBLE AT ALL IN GETTING ACCESS to US soil maybe it's time we turned more of this work over to the private sector. And perhaps new corporations will need to be created to apply new technologies and anti-jihadist strategies gained recently. The private sector may prove more immune to "political correctness" as well since they could have greater rapport and leverage with their consitituents (I am referring to shareholders--who can be bought out if in the way).
And I DO NOT mean low-paying, crappy security companies and run-of-the-mill security guards here. The type of security we NOW ARE IN DIRE NEED OF demands highly skilled, highly-trained, dedicated, and HIGHLY PAID professionals. You can't expect someone living on minimum wage and barely making ends meet, working 50 hours a week, and in possession of little college education to excel in this field. It ain't gonna happen. And it's wrong to blame such security workers for all this. Remember: "the fish stinks from the head down".
SUCH EDUCATED HIGH-CALIBRE PERSONNEL UNFORTUNATELY FOR CORPORATE AMERICA probably can't be outsourced. Third Worlders can't be imported like agricultural semi-serfs in the Coachella Valley for this type of work. Their interest in America's survival is too limited. Many of them may even secretly wish us ill given the rampant anti-Americanism prevalent in so many 'developing nations.'
Corporate America may well be seeing dollar signs and cheap labor to manage America's growing security crisis. But we'll go under if the CEOs don't understand that only decent-paying, secure jobs will entice the class of personnel America needs to have securing its borders, airports, etc.
Cheap labor and American security from jihadists will never in a million years mix!
Corporate America-- and maybe Americans in general-- must be reminded of that old adage "You get what you pay for!"
I doubt there was ever a time where the wisdom of this bromide was more relevant.
Hugh said "a certain major airport put in a prominent position a hijabbed lady."
If "she" were hijabbed, how do we know she was a she? What I mean is, in the best of worlds it was a burly air marshall with weapon strapped to his hip under the hijab.
Something to put the Muslims at ease, something to make them think they can trust the nice hijabbed security "woman" who may even share their motivations, someone to whom they can confide their innermost intentions.
But, this isn't the best of worlds, this isn't the best of Administrations, and this hijabbed Muslim woman was just that. Oh well.
Airport security didn't catch the previous shoe bomber Richard Reid either. It was fellow passengers and air hostesses who wrestled him down.
Airport security held him overnight then let him go? Those minimum wage employees can hold someone overnight without contacting any of the, well sorry but, "real" law enforcement officers?
And they tested his shoes 5 times? Did they, for example, cut open his shoes and see if there was anything in there? Seems pretty easy to resolve it, either it contains a wad of explosives or it doesn't.
Since they cleared him for release, was there anything stopping him from getting on the next flight?
The story as stated doesn't make alot of sense.
"Sources say he had a suspicious pair of shoes that tested positive five times for the explosive substance TATP on the interior of his shoes between the heel and sole."
TATP is a common substance found on the clothing on those suffering from depression. Like the disgruntled OU student that tragically ended his life the traditional, self-destructive way.
http://homelandsecurityus.com/oubombing.htm
I'm sure they released him out of sympathy...
XRDC, please disregard the OU bomber. And the DC snipers. And the DC anthrax attacks. And the fragging of U.S. troops by Muslim comrades. And the airplane that crashed into Queens NYC. And the pilot last week who saw a anti-aircraft missile fly past his jet.
Everything is going great. The problem has been solved.
Repeat after me: there has never been a terrorist attack in the U.S. since 9/11. There has never been a terrorist attack in the U.S. since 9/11...
Then what about the terrorist attacks on Muslim women and children perpetuated by the US since 9/11? Are we supposed to assume that the US does not look for excuses to practice with their guns and bombs and fists and teeth on the chosen people?
Perhaps “unique_visitor” should goggle up the all knowing Dr Gideon Polya on your enternet that arabs invented but your Al Gore stole and see what I mean.
The story was entertaining and believeable until one does his own research. NOW FOR THE TRUE STORY:
Press Release
December 8, 2005 Washington D.C.
FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
On December 2, 2005, an Egyptian male was detained by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials while passing through a security checkpoint at JFK Airport in New York City. Preliminary field testing of the individual's shoes showed a positive hit for explosive materials being contained in the shoes. The shoes were confiscated by TSA officials and turned over to the FBI for further analysis.
Analysis of the shoes was performed at the FBI Laboratory and it was determined that no explosive materials were present in the passenger's shoes. This individual was also interviewed by Special Agents of the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Waterloo, Iowa, and it was determined that he poses no security threat.

Obviously it sounds like this story was nothing more than a case of faulty equipment scanning the gentlemans shoes wrong thinking there was a substance in his shoes that obviously wasn't there. We've all had that experience at an airport when the dam scanner keeps going off yet we have nothing on us. So I'm sure if you think about it, thats what this boils down to. In the future, I would hope the author checks his facts before spreading rumors and gossip. Believe me, I am anti radical muslim, but the truth is the truth. This is the truth and what he had to say was propaganda to support his hate.
XRDC, I goggled Dr Gideon Polya on the enternet that the arabs invented and Al Gore stole, as you suggested. He seems to be spreading some uninteresting anti-American pro-Islamic propaganda.
How that is related to my agreeing with you that the OU bomber might not have actually been committing suicide when he detonated himself with a fragmentary bomb, I'm really not sure.
And you mipselled "special_guest".
Foolish Infidels! Can you not see this was just a dry run?A test of your weak security?A means of filling your hearts with fear as you prepare for your Baby Jesus Holiday? It's a pity your F.B. of I sees it differently!
May Allah burn you like ants with a magnifying glass!
MMWWAAAHH HA HA HA HA !!!!
Government employees working in high security positions are hamstrung by political correctness, even inside our military intelligence… I have seen it first hand. A Muslim employee could violate the dress code, the sexual harassment code, could spread his prayer rug in the middle of a busy hallway and lift his behind to the heavens, could do mediocre work, harass co-workers, even impede and sabotage work without incurring a penalty. Actually, the balder and the more outrageous they become, the faster that their workplace pander to their psychotic whims.
Constantinople -
Ok, Ok. And I was expescialy dilligent in cheking the speling in that past.
special_guest: (U.V.)
You have found me out...poorly educated muslim apologist, I am not. I think "goggling" is harem anyway. Oh well,...back to the story in progress.
This only highlights, along with the al-Arian verict and developements at the UN, such as condemning the Danish artists that satirized the prophet, that we have such an uphill climb ahead of us.
Unfortunately I partially disagree with Hugh: this does not "reinforce false ideas about the essential goodness, trustworthiness, and so on and so forth about Muslims", because the vast majority of Americans, who, like everything else of actual significance besides who's banging who on Desperate Housewives, are completely clueless about Islam and think there is nothing wrong with a Muslim woman wearing oppressive--I mean customary--Islamic garb while running security at an airport. The level of ignorance is so thorough that no amount of false pretense can reinforce it.
The urge to throw our hands and say screw it must be overcome. This is a grass-roots movement and we must educate one person at a time. Do not expect bureacratic entities like law enforcement to protect us against Islam. They're still convinced they're fighting terrorism.
JEH-
Are you referring to the same FBI that has hired CAIR to give sensitivity training in many of its branch locations nationwide?
FYI – Press Releases are expected to be, but are not always accurate.
http://www.regrettheerror.com/press_releases/
The purpose for posting the story here is to share it and consider it’s ramifications, if true. It is NOT to sentence the Egyptian in question to prison for 10 years while he awaits a trial. Yes it’s premature to judge him guilty but it is also premature to judge him innocent.
Was the story true? Was the FBI press release true? Why don’t you tell us whom you trust and on what evidence? If you work for Big Brother and think we should drop the discussion because it threatens national security, well then that’s another issue altogether isn’t it.
Oh, and you forgot to mention racial profiling in your post. You’re welcome!
Speaking of shoe-bombers in the news lately:
http://www.lauramansfield.com/j/112905_shoebombers.asp
I know many of the people who work at JFK for the department of Homeland Security and have direct personal knowledge of this shoe bomber incident.
First let me say that their are a lot of DHS officers who visit Jihadwatch, some are my friends and do so because I have encouraged them to do so.
This is what I know about what happened, and please excuse me if I am limited in my explanation, because by talking about this I am walking a fine line, as to what I can say without getting into trouble.
1) The officer who discovered the shoes - someone who I know personally - did everything by the book and is not a keystone cop. She is someone who at times has visited JW. Give her credit for making the find and doing her job.
2) The laws as currently configured, do not allow people to be detained if they come up positive for explosives traces. Unless they are found with an IED on there person their is nothing legally that can be done. Would this person be followed after and come be under investigation, I think that that's a sure bet. The front-line officers have no way of knowing what is done later by higher ups with the information they discover and nor should we know.
Be fare to the front-line people they do a difficult job with no thanks and many do it out of love of country. I know I talk with them every day.
There are many intelligent and competent officers in the TSA please don't tar them with untrue attacks. Please be fair to them, many of them are JW followers.
If anything the rules that are in place at this time are the culprit and should be changed. The Dihimmi is built into the system. many of the front-line officers are not Dihimmis.
I hereby retract, now that I have learned more about the incident in question, as inappropriate and misapplied, the phrase "Keystone Koppery," And I trust El Cid's observations about those in the police and other security services whom he knows something about. This may still leave open to skeptical querying the policy of others, high up in the FBI or elsewhere, who seem determined to believe, or to pretend to believe, that they have something to gain by disguising their mistrust of official Muslim spokesmen, and otherwise encouraging the public to be more rather than less trusting of Islam and of Muslims. This policy, or hint of a policy, from on high still makes little sense. Or perhaps things are not what they seem. But why must we remain confused? We were not confused in 1953 about Soviet cells and agents and the Communist Party. Why must we be confused, and kept in the dark, today?
Hugh, thank you for hitting it right on the nail as usual, and for your contribution to saying the things that can reach the right people. In my own small way I try to refer those I know to Jihadwatch and the work of the anti-Jihad vanguard.
Criticism should be directed at policy, political correctness and the current limits of the law. The people on the front-line can only educate themselves and hope for a change in policy.
