On the Italian internet radio site, Il Sole-24Ore, I heard a while ago that there were about 40 armed men who invaded the city hall in Bethlehem. Bear in mind that Arafat himself encouraged anarchy in the zones under his control [the "palestinian authority"].
So if there were 40 and not 15 [40 seems more likely], then this is a more serious event.

I wonder how many Nazis in post-war Germany complained of insufficient financial assistance...

Besides those hired by the CIA, of course.

The money that pays for these 300 "activists" and tens of thousands of other such "activists" all over Gaza and the West Bank (olim Judea and Samaria) comes from the jizyah paid by European governments and by the latest sap, the United States. As long as the money keeps coming in, these people will not have to either 1) earn a living, including that hardscrabble existence that prevents poor farmers, for example, from having the time to engage in terrorism or think overmuch about the "need for Islam to dominate and not to be dominated" and so on.

Stop the Jizyah. Stop it for many reasons.

Stop it because it doesn't work, but merely encourages the demand for more, from the Western world -- encourages that is, the classic attitudes of Muslims toward non-Muslims, whereby support from the latter for the former is demanded, and given, as if by right.

Stop it because the largest transfer of wealth in human history has and continues and will continue to take place, from the oil-consuming to the oil-possessing (one is reluctant to use the word "oil-producing" because they can't even do that, and the word "producing" implies some local effort) nations, some $10 trillion so far since the price hike of 1973, to the Arab and Muslim oil states. And that money inevitably goes to fund the Jihad, whatever little triumphs there may be in shutting down this or that operation at this or that bank. Funding of the Jihad means mosques, madrasas, Western hirelings (ex-diplomats, journalists, academics, businessmen angling for contracts, and of course politicians) who loyally do Saudi Arabia's bidding and have over many decades so successfully prevented us (and attempt to do so still) from seeing the malevolent nature of Saudi Arabia (and even today, the gravelly-voiced Prince Turki, with that grave air of the noble Bedouin, etc. seems capable still of fooling the most impressionable, and dumbest, of the journalists). It is in the interests of all Infidels that those revenues diminish, but in the meantime, as the Western world figures out the thousand ways in which it can diminish those oil revenues, it should simultaneously be figuring out a way to use up whatever can be used up that those rich Arab and Muslm states possess. No better way than, by ending the jizyah to Egypt, Jordan, the "Palestinian" Arabs, to force them to go hat-in-hand to the Saudis and Kuwaitis, and no longer to depend on the jizyah. Either the rich Arabs will come trhough, or they won't. In either case, both donor and recipient will be annyoned with theo other - the donor states that this business of pan-Arab and pan-Muslmi solidarity means more than just paying for mosques, madrasas, propagandists and arms for the shock troops of Jihad, but also paying for staples for the Cairene masses, the Jordanian farmers, the "Palestinian" inshallah-fatalists waiting for their next handout so they can concentrate on the real business of Muslim living, which for them is dying.

Stop the Jizyah. Stop paying these "activists." Make them work. They don't work. They spend their time planning murder and mayhem. They don't get up to an alaram clock. They don't have to show up somewhere. No metro, boulot, dodo. No exhaustion at the end of the day. They are fresh, and can devote their full energies to the Jihad. Well, figure out ways that will force them to work. Subsistence farming. Working in factories for slave wages. Being forced to move altogether, to countries where Arabic is spoken (no more visas for the Infidel lands -- no responsible Infidel government should dare to inflict such people on its citizens, given the permanent menace to the physical security, and civilizational legacy, of those Infidels and their societies). They should have to work for a living, in order to prevent them from killing for a living.

I wonder how much of those roads are actually being built with local labor? Very little, I would guess. After all, being an oppressed, angry, enflamed Muslim-Palestinian-member-of-Hamas takes up a lot of ones time and energy.

Despite the islamizification of Bethlehem, the result both of Christians fleeing after rapes and murders of two Christian sisters and attacks and looting and endless provocations by Muslim "Palestinians," and of a deliberate movement of Muslims into Bethlehem (a place that, had the Western world understood Islam, it would have insisted that Israel never relinquish it), the current mayor of Bethlehem exhibits classic signs of the islamochristian. This man, Victor Batarseh, uses every occasion to berate and blame the Israelis for what is obvious to everyone, to the Franciscan monk who is the Custodian of the Christian Holy Places, to every other truth-telling Christian (chiefly non-Arab, Western Christians, who do not have the problem of identifying "Arabness" with loyalty to Islam, and do not worry about retribution from local Muslims the way all "Palestinian" Arab Christians must).

Batarseh will never tell the truth about the condition of the Arab Christians. Not to a BBC interviewer a week or two ago, not to any journalist. But wouldn't you think, at this stage of things, journalists would begin to study the phenomenon of the "dhimmi" and the way in which this has given rise to "islamochristians," and to figure out why it is that Maronites (and Copts once they leave Egypt, where they perforce must parrot the Muslim party line on Israel, and for all I know, some may even come to believe it) are more more resistant (google "Habib Malik," the son of Lebanon's only statesman, the late Charles Malik) to the pathological condition of "islamochristianity." Of course, Batarseh's own children now study in the United States, and he was cagy on the question of whether or not they would dare to return to live to Bethlehem, assuring his interviewer that "he certainly hoped so." What that means, of course, is "I certainly hope they won't. For god's sake, they should stay somewhere in the West, if they know what's good for them and for all Christian Arabs."

Let those who think they should be writing, pontificating, interviewing on subjects having to do with Islam to learn, by reading "The Dhimmis" and "Islam and Dhimitude," what the word "dhimmi" signifies, and what the condition of "dhimmitude" signifies. Only then will there be some chance of actually informing listeners and readers, and of making sense of what otherwise seems to be permanently puzzling.

It is not a puzzle. But it requires a little work, so as to see why, for example, setting up a false opposition between pan-Arabism and pan-Islamism (i.e. Islam), or not seeing how thin is the veneer of Marxism on those who, within Islam, try it out as a kind of legitimate way of escaping from Islam (as the Christian George Habash and other "Palestinian" Christians attempted), or that Ba'athism can be seen as yet one more attempt, begun largely by a Christain (Michel Aflaq) and eagerly exploited by both minority Alawites in Syria, and minority Sunnis in Iraq, to prevent, by offering a muddying quasi-pan-Arab alternative (Baathism)to the real Muslims in Syria (who do not consider Alawites fully Muslim), and the majority Shi'a in Iraq. And for a while it worked, but Ba'athism is over, and cannot be resurrected. And in the same way, pan-Arabism has now, with the oil wealth, been subsumed in bigger dreams -- the biggest dream of all, the dream not necessarily of a world-wide Caliphate. When Bush and Cheney mention that kind of thing, they invite ridicule because they have done nothing to educate people intelligently, and by degrees, about Islam -- not the least of their demonstrated incapacity to deal with this problem in any way other than rough-tough "boots on the ground" swaggering, instead of being able to engage in a wholesale campaign of information and propaganda, that could, by instructing Infidels everywhere, help them to recognize that conquest through Da'wa and demographic trends is the main problem, and not "terrorism" or the "war on terrorism."

Vlad the Prince of Wallachia
The word Voevod means Warlord-Prince. For those of you who aren't familiar with the historical figure of Vlad the Impaler, he was the prince of Wallachia during the time of the Ottoman Empire's attempts to take over parts of Eastern Europe in the 1400's.
He helped John Hunyadi, the white knight, to defend their homelands from the turkish advances.

Vlad decided that the only way to oust the Turks, and become the true prince of Wallachia, was to enlist the help of John Hunyadi- the very man who had murdered his father and brother. Vlad was willing to put this aside to defeat their common enemy, the Sultan.
Hunyadi agreed to back Vlad militaraly. Vlad and Hunyadi were successfull in driving out Radu, who had been made prince by the Sultan when Vlad excaped. Vlad retook the Wallachian throne, beginning his second, and most infamous reign.

Once, two ambasadors from the Sultan came with a message for Vlad. When they entered his throne room, he asked them to remove their turbans. It was considered rude to address the prince without taking off one's hat. The Turks, however, took exception to this request. For one thing, Vlad an the Sultan where not on good terms, so insulting him really didn't seem to matter, and just as importantly, the turbans were not just headgear, they were a symbol of the Muslim religion. The Turks refused, not knowing just how serious a mistake it was to insult Vlad. Vlad immediately ordered his guards to sieze them, and then stated that if they were so unwilling to part with the turbans, that they should be nailed to their heads. Vlad then watched in satisfaction as the Turks writhed and screamed as large nails were driven into their skulls.

Vlad was informed by his spies of the great power of the approaching Turkish army. He knew that his forces could not win in open battle, and that he lacked the resourses to survive a long siege, so he undertook a very desperate venture. In the middle of the night, Vlad personally led a small elite force into the Turkish camp in the hopes of taking the Sultan off guard and killing him. If the Sultan died, the Turkish troops would be so demoralised that they might retreat. Thanks to the element of suprise, and excellent knowledge of the local terrain, Vlad's midnight offensive was almost successful. The Sultan was wounded, although not fataly, and Vlad's entire force escaped without casualties. (this battle was recorded in great detail by a Turkish soldier)
But the attack did not stop the Turkish army. Vlad retreated to his castle at Targoviste, and prepared to flee. His wife, believing that escape was impossible, comitted suicide by leaping off of a clift into a river. The river was afterwards known as the Princess River. Vlad was hit by a second tragedy as he and his servants escaped through the forest on horseback-- the servant who was carrying Vlad's infant son dropped him. The pursuing Turks were too close to risk turning back to look for the child, so they were forced to leave him behind. In one day Vlad had lost both his home and his family.
Seeking help, Vlad went to King Mathias of Hungary-- but Vlad's evil deeds finally caught up with him. People from some of the villages most persecuded by Vlad had gotten to Mathias first. They told the king that Vlad was an ally of the Turks, and coming as a spy. When Vlad arrived, he was immediately thrown into prison.
The Turks did not stay long in Targoviste. They were greeted by the impaled heads of several of their spies. Before fleeing, Vlad had set fire to the city, rendering it into ruins. The Turks took the city anyway, but after only a few days, Black Plague broke out among the soldiers, and they were forced to retreat out of Wallachia.

Vlad Tepes was born in November or December 1431, in the fortress of Sighisoara, Romania. His father, Vlad Dracul, at that time appointed military governor of Transylvania by the emperor Sigismund, had been inducted into the Order of the Dragon about one year before. The order - which could be compared to the Knights of the Hospital of St. John or even to the Teutonic Order of Knights - was a semimilitary and religious society, originally created in 1387 by the Holy Roman Emperor and his second wife, Barbara Cilli. The main goals of such a secret fraternal order of knights was mainly to protect the interests of Catholicism, and to crusade against the Turks. There are different reasons why this society is so important to us. First, it provides an explanation for the name "Dracula;" "Dracul," in Romanian language, means "Dragon", and the boyars of Romania, who knew of Vlad Tepes' father induction into the Order of the Dragon, decided to call him "Dracul." "Dracula," a diminutive which means "the son of Dracul," was a surname to be used ultimately by Vlad Tepes. A second major role of this Order as a source of inspiration for Stoker's evil character is the Order's official dress - a black cape over a red garment - to be worn only on Fridays or during the commemoration of Christ's Passion.
In the winter of 1436-1437, Dracul became prince of Wallachia (one of the three Romanian provinces) and took up residence at the palace of Tirgoviste, the princely capital. Vlad Tepes followed his father and lived six years at the princely court. In 1442, for political reasons, Dracula and his younger brother Radu were taken hostage by the Sultan Murad II; Dracula was held in Turkey until 1448, while his brother Radu decided to stay there until 1462. This Turkish captivity surely played an important role in Dracula's upbringing; it must be at this period that he adopted a very pessimistic view of life. Indeed, the Turks set him free after informing him of his father's assassination in 1447 - organized by Vladislav II. He also learned about his older brother's death - Mircea was the eldest legitimate son of Dracul - and how he had been tortured and buried alive by the boyars of Tirgoviste

Vlad the Impaler, although infamous in the west, was actually canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church as a liberator of Christians from the Turkish yoke. I have an ikon of him on my wall.
