Hmmmmm. Maybe, if the USA stopped paying this ridiculous jizya, there would be a revolt against the PA, Hamas would take power and---Hamas would wake up and realize that it faces the choice of either being massacred or expelled by the Israelis or telling the Palestinians that they have to work for a living from here on out. In either case, Hamas would have to make a classical Hobson's Choice.

If the answer to that is "yes" and the news report is factual, then why are we sending any money to Palestine?

Am I missing something here? This whole situation is the equivalent of handing a loaded gun to the man who says he intends to kill me and my family.

It is sheer homicidal and suicidal insanity to continue to give any kind of aid to, and thereby abet, the people who intend to destroy the United States and Israel.

Arafat and the PA deliberately cultivated a climate in the country to produce martyrs, using the education system to brainwash Muslim children into believing that they live in misery entirely because of the Jews and that there is no political solution available to them and their parents that giving their children to martyrdom is the highest honour they can aspire to and by bribing them with these payoffs. And all the while, Arafat and his pals syphoned off obscene amounts of money into their own pockets and at the same time, never built a single new home in the PA administered territories -- at least not for the common people. Who indeed are the heartless in this picture? And it seems to be business as usual under Abu Mazen, except that Mazen is in a greater struggle with Hamas to maintain power.

Which "people"? What do you mean "never be that heartless"? What "dangerous talk"?

We all want to know. It will give us what is called, nowadays, so simperingly, "insight."

Anyone who feels that the Palestinians need aid is free to contribute their own money.

No more foreign aid to the Palestinians from the US.

We could invest that money much more productively in our own country, workers, and businesses.

Not only does the U .S pays a sizable amount of 'Jizia", but the European Union too spills out a sizable loot bag of 'jizia'( in spite of their own monitary limitations). Just to keep the terrorists happy,(and to be safe from them) even third world countries like India sends them a small amount now and then!

How does that $250.00 stack up against Condoleeza's retirement stipend? Is she being outbid? Enquiring minds want to know.

Since May of this year Bush has given Abbas pass after pass on his obligations (step 1. getting rid of the terrorist groups which Abbas has resolutely refused to do) to the accords he signed wrt the Roadmap. Also the US has given him some $400 million since his first visit in May.

Of course it appears that Israel's obligations under the Roadmap accord is also payable in blood.

Of course very few remember Rice's hysterical outburst, a couple of months ago, when Israel's defense minister Mofaz refused to supply the PA with more arms and ammunition for their terrorist swollen Security Force.
Then again when the Gaza border accord was brokered there were more harsh words for Mofaz from Ms. Rice.
So much for her work her European observers of the accord permitted the entry of some 15 terrorists to enter from Egypt.

Yes just what do you mean? What the PA is doing is equivalent to what Saddam was doing. Saddam's support for terrorists including his payments to "Palestinian" terrorist families is one of the reasons sited for his removal. From what I can see nothing good is been done with the "jizya" that the PA is being given. It needs to be stopped.

What I mean by that comment is that the US Admin is wise & looks at the bigger picture.

While some of the money goes to these stupid jahidist people much of it goes to the truly needy, homeless and helps to run the PAL state.

Without this money all that will happen is the creation of more jihadists.

I think what the US MUST demand is that it gets the PALS to account for HOW the money is spent and have penalties if it is spent any other way. Why doesn't the admin do that....YOU should demand it?

Receiving the proceeds of a criminal act is itself a criminal act. The families of individuals participating ia a suicide/murder operation who receive financial compensation are thus also answerable to criminal charges. Extradite them, try them and if found guilty of receiving illegal financial compensation, lock them up. That means Mom, Dad, Sis and Bro. Minors become wards of the state.

Naseem, if you are worried about the poor and the needy in Palestine, you are free to send them YOUR money.

We've poured billions of dollars into the "Palestinian" problem.

Thanks for clarifying. You are right, but Chatillon is right too. Practially speaking, the truly needy among the population is extremely vulnerable to exploitation by either Hamas or the PA. Humanitarian considerations aside, if the only money that comes to them comes through Hamas or the PA, it's only human to see them as their saviours.

The solution is for the US, Canada, the EU and any other country or NGO who are giving money to the PA is to make the transfer of funds contingent on real transparency and accountability. Failing that, the donor nations will have to administer directly aid in whatever form they provide it, whether cash or commodities or contract out administration to organizations with a proven track record of being free of corruption and requiring no more than 20% to cover administrative activies.

In reality, money given in good faith for charitable purposes seldom reaches the people it is intended for. The "end poverty" types like Bob Geldof just don't get it. It's not the lack of generosity on the part of the developed world that is the reason poverty remains a scourge all over the globe, it's corruption from the top right down to the lowest rungs of the beaurocracy. What makes this even more difficult to overcome is that a large and relatively empowered middle class is the last thing they want because more for them means less for the oligarchs. Hence, the governments of underdeveloped nations have no motivation to change things, just as surely as too many Arab League and OIC member countries have no motivation to see peace between Israel and the Palestinians as to foster peace would be to cede their favoured argument against democratic reform.

This proves once again that the whole "palestinian authority" is a criminal body and ought to be dismantled. It is not only Iraq that has to be de-Baathified and deNazified. The Palestinian Arab population has long been indoctrinated with a Nazi-like ideology, and very intensely since the Oslo Accords in 1993 [through their schools, TV, radio, print publications, mosques, etc.], and they have gotten away with murder --literally-- time after time, since major govts and the UN, EU, cabal look favorably on their doings.
The ideology in question can be called Islamofascism which overlaps Arab nationalism to a great extent. We recall that the chief leader of the Palestinian Arabs in the 1920s, 1930, and 1940s, Haj Amin el-Husseini [Husayni], was a Nazi collaborator, living in the Nazi-fascist domain during WW2 and urging the Germans to kill more Jews faster. [documented in various sites on the Internet: do a google of ["arabs and nazis" + husseini] and ["arabs and nazis" + husseini + bosnian]
He gave a pep talk to the Bosnian Muslim SS division, the Handschar, in which HE asserted a similarity between Islam and "National Socialism". That is, Husseini said so, not Robert Spencer, or Hugh Fitzgerald, or Prof. Bostom. Now this personality, the Mufti, combined in one man a Pan-Arabist, a Pan-Islamist, a mufti [Muslim religious judge], and a "Palestinian" Arab political leader. So the tears spilled over the plight of these Arabs are tears over those who are led by people who are in effect Nazis, mass murderers. The Arab-Muslims have oppressed and persecuted Jews for 1300 years as dhimmis, or whatever label they now use for an excuse. They oppressed and exploited Jews in Morocco, Iraq, Yemen, and the Land of Israel. Calling for another state to be set up in the Land of Israel and called "palestine" is an injustice on the part of Western govts.
But the "palestinian authority" ought to be dismantled or done away with in some way, for the good of the Arabs too. And some of them agree with that. I have heard Arabs curse arafat as much as I do. Maybe they were doing taqiyya or Kasb. I don't know. But the PA should not exist. Israel has the right to go in and suppress all of the Nazi gangs in the PA territories, and jail or expel all leaders and officials of the PA who have taken part in or instigated or supported mass murder acts [= terrorism, as defined today]. And Mahmud Abbas [abu mazen] is yasser in a suit and cleanshaven.

The PA should not be reformed but eliminated. The UN, EU, etc. are all tainted with the mass murders perpetrated by the PA and its minions and proteges since they pay big subsidies to the PA [if Naseem thinks much of this $$$ goes to help the Arab poor, then she is naive], and give it diplomatic and public relations support, military training, etc. The EU-UN-US-Japanese money goes to pay for Nazi propaganda [or call it Islamofascist if you like].
