GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Palestinian gunmen abducted two foreign teachers from an American school as they were driving north of Gaza City on Wednesday, witnesses said.The foreigners were identified only as a Belgian and a Dutch. Their car was stopped by unidentified armed men who forced them into their vehicle and drove them to an unknown destination....
The kidnappings took place a day after a group of gunmen threatened to abduct foreigners if their demands to be folded into the Palestinian security services were not met. These armed men denied involvment in Wednesday's kidnapping.
Militant groups have kidnapped foreigners in increasingly chaotic Gaza recently, usually as bargaining chips to get relatives released from Palestinian prisons, secure jobs from the Palestinian Authority or settle personal scores. The kidnappings have all been brief, and the hostages have all been released unhamred [sic].
That's good. It would have been terrible for them to have been "hamred."

I hope everyone saw Barbara Wah-wah's special last night with its puff-piece on the Palestinian would-be suicide bomber held in an Israeli prison. The segment was complete with an imam from NYC (of all places) telling her that Islam prohibited violence "against *innocent* civilians" (nudge-nudge, wink-wink).
I'm not holding my breath for the show where Bah-bah gets to speak with prisoners of conscience held in Iranian prisons.

Kidnapped Aussie freed in Gaza

AN Australian teacher was held for seven hours last night by Palestinian gunmen in the Gaza Strip.
Victorian Brian Ambrosio, assistant principal of the American International School, was hauled from his blue Honda sedan with his boss, Dutchman Hendrik Taatgen, about 7.30am (4.30pm AEDT) as they approached the school in Beit Lahiya, in northern Gaza.
Gunmen with ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the abduction on the last day of term before Christmas and demanded the release of an imprisoned militant leader.
The hostages were released at the Gaza City office of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas about 2.30pm (11.30pm AEDT).
Students and their parents whistled, clapped and cheered as Mr Ambrosio and Mr Taatgen stepped out of a car.
"I think that today is a bad memory for us," Mr Ambrosio said.
"We need somehow to get away from this bad memory, so we can contribute again to build the future of Gaza at this difficult time."
The first news of the release came from Palestinian MP Kamal al-Shrafi.
"The two hostages are with me in my car now. They are released," Mr Shrafi told Reuters by mobile phone.
Mr Ambrosio is the second Australian to be kidnapped in the Palestinian territory this year.
In July, freelance journalist Zoi Constantine and Palestinian photographer Steve Sabella were held for three hours by Palestinian gunmen who were trying to pressure the Palestinian Authority to organise the release of a relative abducted by the Jenin Martyrs Brigades.
The PFLP, which opposes peace negotiations with Israel, demanded the release of some of its leaders, who have been held since 2002 under international supervision in a jail in the West Bank city of Jericho. The leaders include PFLP leader Ahmed Saadat and several members behind the assassination of ultra-nationalist Israeli cabinet minister Rehavam Ze'evi in 2001.
"This is our first message, first to the authority and secondly to the Zionist, American and British enemy. Our message is not directed to the peoples of the two hostages," the statement said."

By chance I saw Barbara Walter's programme last night too. I was struck by the Palestinian would-be suicide bomber's smirk, which flitted on and off his countenance, as he spoke. He reminded me of a smug 12-year-old class bully, caught in the act and not too sure how the teacher is going to react. Occasionally when Barbara asked him a probing question which required him to actually think, his discomfiture was obvious.
He said that Jews will burn in Hell "over and over" -- as Allah will make sure they are revived to face the flames for eternity. I wondered what Allah he could be referring to -- it certainly couldn't be the "most merciful" one I usually read about.
This Moslem prisoner told Barbara that anyone who was not a Moslem would go to hell -- even her. She took this with a great deal of equanimity I thought, commenting, "That's an awful lot of people going to Hell!"
But the imam Barbara later interviewed stressed that Jews and Christian would not go to hell -- I think he's been coached in political correctness, Islamic style, whereas the young Palestinian would-be killer was still speaking with the unsophisticated blood-fervour of a deeply brainwashed follower of Allah.
I've come to expect barbarity and outrageous behavior from Muslims, thus no one should be surprised by the viciousness and savagery perpetrated by Muslims in the name of Allah. There may be some moderate Muslims but Islam is not moderate and sooner or later extremism and savagery informs and guides Muslims when the goals of Islam are at stake.

Arab mother Um Nidal sent three children on anti-Israel death missions. Now she is the first female candidate on the Hamas list in the upcoming Palestinian Authority (PA) parliamentary elections.
Um Nidal, also known as Mariam Farahat, became famous when she was filmed bidding her 17-year-old son Mohammed farewell to die through terror. She ordered him "not to return except as a shahid [martyr for Allah]" - and he followed through.
Political observers in the PA are convinced that Hamas' fielding Um Nidal as a candidate will gain the terrorist group votes.
Palestinian Media Watch Directors Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook commented on Nidal's nomination, "It is striking, and indicative of the very nature of Palestinian society as one that accepts and values terror as a way of life, that a woman could be chosen to be a legislator solely by virtue of her celebration of her son's terrorism and death."
