Riyadh: The Saudi curriculum is mainly responsible for breeding hatred towards non-Muslims, said many participants at the ongoing Fifth National Dialogue Forum.They find fault with advocating a single school of thought that creates wrong notions among the younger generation.
The three-day forum Us and Others: A National Vision for Interacting with International Cultures which began in the Saudi city of Abha, will conclude today.
More than 70 participants including Saudi male and female intellectuals, academics and writers representing various schools of thought debated a wide variety of issues, ranging from the treatment of Saudis to non-Saudis and non-Muslims to the Sunni-Shiite relationship.
The discussions mainly focused on the religious point of view, focusing on Islam's position toward other cultures, and importance of accepting diversity of cultures.
During the opening session, Saleh Al Hussain, president of the King Abdul Aziz Center for National Dialogue, said: "In case of dealing with non-Muslims, Islam requires both justice and sympathy. And when it comes to Muslims' relations with fellow Muslims, the relation must be based on loyalty to Islam and governed by a bond of brotherhood."
Participating in the discussion, Dr Sahl Bin Abdul Aziz, an expert from King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, said it is strange that "we are not taking advantage of the West in dealing with others.
"Why don't we respect others just like the Westerners. It is unfortunate that some of us are hesitating to greet non-Muslims."
For the first time since the First National Dialogue was held in Riyadh in 2003, the event was broadcast live on Saudi state television.
Many Arab expatriates were surprised to see participants expressing views frankly.
Dr Dalal Aziz criticised the arrogance in the treatment of some Saudis toward expatriates or non-Saudis or even to Saudis from outside.
"We have to recognise the reality and get rid of our superiority complex and humiliating of other nationals," she said.
Dr Hind Bint Turky Al Sudairy said: "It is imperative for us to return to the Quran by giving respect to other schools of thought."
Good luck with that.
Weasel words. Loyalty to Islam and the 'bond of brotherhood' preclude equal treatment of non-Muslims. So 'justice and sympathy' here means the justice of the dhimma and the sympathy of the superior for the inferior.
And while you're at it, lose weight by eating a lot. What happens if the 'other schools of thought' take you away from the Koran? Would they still get 'respect'? 'Respect', here, probably means something more like 'permission'. You can have your little school of thought but Muslims set the timetable, send in inspectors, expel unruly pupils, and, if its teachers get too independent, turn it into a madrassa.
They seem to agree that the present Quran-based curriculum breeds hatred.
And now they want to go back to the Quran to arrange things...
It seems they'll never be able to get out of that vicious circle. At the rate they are going, 50 years from now they will still wonder how to stop breeding hatred...

A theme favored by James Woolsey (which he borrows from Bernard Lewis) is that it is the "Wahhabis" who are the source of our current problems. This is curious, given that there is no difference between the four schools of Muslim jurisprudence on the duty of Jihad, and with one minor exception involving one school, no difference in the treatment of Infidels under Muslim rule.
There is only one major difference -- aside from the greater rigor with which the Shari'a is enforced in Saudi Arabia (as it is in the Sudan, and the Islamic Republic of Iran), and in such obvious signs as the public beheadings and lopping off of members, and the head-to-toe "portable seclusion" that so impresses, or at least is defended by, the likes of Leila Abu-Lughod, and that even those phony "feminists" Leikla Ahmad and Fatima Mernissi, find themselves not so much defending, as carefully unlinking them, absurdly, from Islam itself (purely a "cultural" thing like clitoridectomies, absolutely nothing to do with Islam, etc.).
And what is that difference?
That difference is the willingness of the Saudis, of the Wahhabis, to declare other Muslims, or others who claim to be Muslims, to in fact be Infidels -- in other words, the takfir impulse. And that's about it. That's why the Al-Saud family is now hoist by its own Wahhabi petard. For those who deplore its decadence and corruption have at hand the one weapon, the one label, that the Al-Saud have to fear: the label that they are not "corrupt" or "decadent" or "despotic" or "stealing the nation's wealth" (they have earned all of those descriptions, and more), but that they are -- horribile dictu -- "Infidels."
And that is what terrifies them.
The Saudis not only do not care, but actively wish to encourage, hatred of the Infidels outside Saudi Arabia. Why should they care, why should they not wish to encourage, hatred of Christians and Jews and Hindus, and of Shiites as well? But things have gone a little too far when that "Saudi curriculum" can be taken a bit too seriously, and lead to troubles for the Saudi princes and princelings, and their courtiers and other members of the favored class.
That is now their worry. That is what may make them change, just in the tiniest possible way (which won't prevent it from being given Front-Page News treatment in the naive West), here and there, any parts of that malevolent curriculum that might, in the end, pose a problem for the Al-Saud.

I wonder if there have been any studies (at the Pentagon, in the MSM, or anywhere else) on which school the jihadists belong to. Are they really all Wahhabists?
Is it that the other three schools simply choose not to enforce their own interpretation of jihad?
Or is it that Wahhabism is not really the only culprit, and our sole focus on "Wahhabism" is misguided? Maybe if we were to look at the facts (as opposed to wishful thinking), it would turn out that Islam itself is the motivation for jihad, independent of the school.
Back in the 70's after the Iranian Revolution, we were told by our MiddleEast Experts (tm) that Shi'ism (as in Iran) was the source of radicalism, and that Sunni's were the "moderates". How many times can we get it wrong, before we get it right?

AMSTERDAM — The Islamic College Amsterdam (ICA) announced on Thursday it will ignore the ruling that it cannot insist Muslim women wear a headscarf in order to work as a teacher.
The Equality Commission ruled in November that the ICA was wrong to deprive Samira Haddad, 32, of a teaching job because she refused to cover her head with a scarf. The ICA was given a month to reply to the commission's ruling.
The school's board agreed that, technically speaking, a headscarf was not necessary for the performance of duties in the school. But there are clear clothing regulations in the Islamic religion, the board said. "The necessity is linked to our philosophy of life and the
related rules."
The school also responded to a letter from Amsterdam Alderman Ahmed Aboutaleb, who expressed concern about the school's intolerant attitude. The ICA said the key issue was not one of tolerance but the freedom of religion.
"The profession of the Islamic faith leads to prescribed regulations in relation to clothing," the ICA said.
The decision by the Equality Commission is not legally binding.

Humour has nothing to do with it, but it was prophecised in the Bible that the Arabs would possess oil wealth. Furthermore, Israel will discover oil, as it has also has been prophecised.
But this discovery will be one of the factors, along with Iran, that proceeds the Gog-Magog War.
Whereby Russia and the Arabs attack Israel. It has been prophecised. Supernaturally, Israel wins and the devastation is so great that it takes seven years to clean up the mess.

I have seen hard-line Muslims who are not Wahhabis blame the Wahhabis when it's convenient for them to do so in order to give a better image to Islam.
The fact is there is not much difference between committed Muslims whethere they are Wahhabis or not.
