In other words, any thoughts of attacking Saudi Arabia as they have done several times recently. All else is Fair Game!

Which deviant thoughts were they set free from? Reminds me of that movie, "The Killing Fields", where the people were sent to "re-education camps" and then never heard from again. I guess these guys are lucky to be alive, if being transformed into Stepford dhimmis can be considered lucky.

They are no longer deviants. They are on the "right path." What does this mean? It means that they are now able to realize that the members of the Al-Saud, the family that runs and owns and named after itself Saudi Arabia, are not Infidels, but good Muslims. It means that the whole notion of takfir, of labelling fellow Muslims -- no, sorry, make that fellow Sunni Muslims because Shii'a really are Rafidite dogs, aren't they -- as Infidels just won't do.

As for the real Infidels? The Americans, the French, the British, the Jews, the Hindus, the Buddhists, the rest? Oh, they're still very much Infidels.

Instead of "fellow Sunni Muslims", a more accurate phrase would be "fellow ARAB Sunni Muslims".

Quite right. The American government should demonstrate its faith in the Saudis and the Saudi system, and the efficacy of Saudi "conselling" in the most telling way it can: give a few dozen of those who have successfully been counselled out of any menacing behavior or beliefs the chance to study in the United States, and to mingle with, and befriend, all sorts of Infidels.

Just the ticket. Just the way to prove there are no hard feelings, and that we believe, so earnestly, in the quick redemption.

But let's not stop with students. Let's have a special "Democracy-Is-On-the-March" Program, whereby young Muslims in that all-important 18-35 year-old age bracket, are given internships all over Washington. Saudis, Iraqis, Kuwaitis, Egyptians, Syrians, whathaveyou -- what better way to promote "Democracy" in the heart of the Middle East than to place, say, 800 young Arab Muslims, at that impressionable age, in internships in Congressional offices, at the Pentagon, and the State Department, and of course in the White House itself. Let them observe, up close, just how democracy functions. Let them learn about lobbying. Let them see we have nothing to hide at the Pentagon -- just the way Prince Bandar was allowed in, or rather invited himself to and was permitted to stay, to observe the planning and discussion of the invasion of Iraq.

What better way to prove to our staunch allies among the "moderates" that we not only mean them no harm, but are an open book. And what better way, at the same time, to give them a real look at how democracy works, so they can take what they've learned, and return home, and... well, make good use of what they've learned.

Who should head this project? Oh, possibly Cheney's daughter - she's been put in charge of something to do with bringing Democracy to the Middle East, so why not enlarge her responsibliities, and give her this task?

Or perhaps Bill Clinton would be the best man to be put in charge of this splendid demonstration of "Democracy-Is-On-the-March-and-We-Have-Nothing-To-Hide-From-You" program. Clinton, who is in fidgety need of some task to perform, could be invaluable, given his experience and knowledge, in placing those interns in the most suitable positions.

If that doesn't solve things, I don't know what will.

Yes, give them a taste of democracy.

And what if, on the list of those released (will that list be shared with Western governments, just in case?), someone appears who later does the right thing, which is to aim his hatred only at the real Infidels, not at those nice fellow Muslims of the Al-Saud family and their courtiers, whose only fault is stealing the wealth of the entire nation, and as long as they use some of it for building mosques and madrasas and buying up Western hirelings, these Good Works surely make up for any peculatory peccadilloes.
