The Russians continue to manifest their eagerness to help Iran, ignoring Iran's support for the Chechens and the fact that they could be sealing their own fate. From AFP, with thanks to JE:
TEHRAN: Iran is ready to study a Russian proposal for the Islamic republic to enrich uranium on Russian soil, a top national security official has said in Tehran's warmest reaction yet to the offer."The new Russian proposal can be studied so that its economic, technical and scientific aspects will be clear," Supreme National Security Council member Javad Vaidi told the ISNA news agency yesterday.
He said the Russian proposal was based on the establishment of a "joint Iran-Russia company on Russian soil" for the enrichment of uranium, a key component of the nuclear fuel cycle....
Iran's enrichment demands have proved controversial, because highly enriched uranium can be used in the explosive core of a nuclear bomb. Tehran rejects US accusations it has a nuclear weapons program....
Moscow's proposal attacks the key sticking point in talks between Iran and the EU over Iran's nuclear program.
Its proposal would allow Iran to enrich uranium outside the country in Russia, giving Iran access to the nuclear fuel cycle but providing a guarantee its nuclear program is peaceful.
Yeah, surrrrrre.
Iran proposes to "study" this arrangment, which is a lot different from saying that they will actually do it. The Drudge report this morning indicates that they have already distanced themselves from this statement. Wow, that took a whole day. Iran now claims that they will continue to enrich uranium in Iran which, as we all know is their right.
Who was it who said that the definition of stupidity is doing something over and over and expecting a different result?
That "study" shouldn't take too long. (How many more months do we need, boys? Oh, okay.) Sorry, where was I? Yes, we should be able to complete our "study" of this proposal in 11, or with the summer holidays, perhaps 12 months.
That should be plenty of time.
Yup Yup Yup,
Oh boy, a largely communist reflective nation calling itself a friend of the United States and Europe that is struggling with democracy helps a full blown insanely power mongering hallucinogenic government prepared to carry out the second holocaust......gosh, brings back those great reflective times of Stalin and Hitler! Only in those days the images were right in front of us in "black and white." Those Russians sure are friends of ours.......we can trust them.
The Russians helping the Iranians with their nuke program. And folks wonder how it is that they lost the arms race and almost bankrupt their economy. They're stupid if they think that the Iranians are going to be their friends. Peaceful program, my ass!!! Russia is still smarting from losing the arms race with us. They're using Iran to get even with us, plain and simple!!! Sharing nuclear technology with this soon to be murderous regime will prove to be diasterous to the Russians more than us. The Russians share with the Iranians, who then use the the technology to build weapons, that they then sell to the Chechens, who then use them on the Russians. Unless the Israelis follow through on their move to destroy the reactor while it's being constructed, the Russians are placing the whole world in peril with this boneheaded move. No wonder their not a superpower. they're too STUPID!!!
With Putin's latest dealings with the Muzzies over the past few weeks, he appears to be playing...dare I say it...Russian Roulette.
From the perspective of Russian financial interests, Putin is doing a sensible thing: If diplomacy doesnt work, either 2 things can happen which could harm Russia's interests: either Israel acts unilateraly, as they did with Saddam, which could lead to a wider war, or, simililar to what was done with Saddam in the 90s, disarnmnent will be demanded by the security council with the threat of santions for non compliance. Couple this with Bush's policy of regime change in Iran, plus his willingness to act outside the U.N. (thank God), and couple this with the billions of dollars worth of contracts Putin has with Iran (remember the financial interests Putin had with Saddam?) and we have the motivation for Putin's willingness to work hard to preserve the current regime in Iran, just as he and French officials shamefully worked hard to preserve Saddams regime.
Arguably, or perhaps most likely, Russia and China and France would veto any action against Iran from the security council. But, as Iraq demonstrated, the current president does not require their permission to act if the bomb making process continues unabated. This is further motivation for Putin.
Global Jihad and a grave threat to Israel are ovbiously not in Putins calculations; Russian financial interests take precedence. Who can blame Putin for acting in what he believes is his country's self interest? Either he is ignorant of the global Jihad, or he does not view it as being so dangerous that it requires confrontation, not Chamberlanesque appeasment.
Russia Communist?
Yegads WOG, you right wing radicals are indeed stuck in the past.., same mindset as the Muslims who believe that Spain (and Israel and Greece and the Balkans and France) are part of Dar al Islam.
An alternative spelling of stupidity: FREEPER.
Nariz:
The phrase "largly communist reflective" has a different meaning than "communist." Although Russia is no longer what it was during the times of the former Soviet Union, many of its former characteristics and tendancies still linger under the former KGB officer leader Putin.
You must try and appreciate nuance Nariz.
