Bravo, Archbishop Chaput. So few people are willing to speak out. From LifeSiteNews, with thanks to all who sent this in:
WASHINGTON, DC, United States, December 16, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Archbishop Charles Chaput, of the diocese of Denver, broke free from politically correct restrictions to speak openly about growing Moslem persecution of Christians, in an address to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, of which he is a member.“Anti-Christian discrimination and violence seem to be growing throughout the Islamic world,” said Archbishop Chaput. “In the past several years, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and even Moslem-controlled areas of the heavily Catholic Philippines have all seen extraordinary acts of bloodshed against Christians.”
The Archbishop expressed his concern over consistent lack of media attention given to acts of violence against Christians.
“Three things distinguish anti-Christian persecution and discrimination around the world. First, it’s ugly. Second, it’s growing. And third, the mass media generally ignore or downplay its gravity.”
Read it all.
Archbishop Chaput
First on the list for Anti-Dhimmi 2006.
I'll bet he is a friend of Tancredo.
About two weeks too late - otherwise Archbishop Charles Chaput would have warranted a nomonation for the recent anti-dhimmi awards. As XRDC says, he's on the short list for next year. Are you listening Vatican and Church of England?
He is one of the most orthodox bishops in US, he is a wonderful pastor of souls. And now, this, awesome!
Although I am not Christian, I am glad he has raised the issue. It is important for the world to know the truth.
So many friends I have from the Middle east and Pakistan who happen to be Christian. always tell me of the persecution of Christians in those countries. Yet most Westerners are oblivious to it.
Good for the Archbishop to do this, I hope he wakes up more of his flock.
-Cheers
The persecution of Christians is a fulcrum issue for spreading understanding of the threat Islam represents. Americans' belief in equality and multiculturalism is a weakness at home against the Jihad onslaught, but a strength when applied to Islam as a majoritarian creed. I know evangelicals who are painfully aware of Chinese oppression of Christians, but ignorant of Islam's doctrinal tyrrany and how it is being applied today.
Can anyone suggest a book about what is happening to Christians NOW in the benighted Islamic world? I want to get a Christmas present for my evangelical friends...

"Can anyone suggest a book about what is happening to Christians NOW in the benighted Islamic world?"
-- from a posting above
Check the website of the Barnabas Fund, and google "Patrick Sookhdeo." And consider, as a book of history that does not date, Bat Ye'or's "The Decline of Eastern Christianity Under Islam."
At last someone is airing the truth of the persecutions of Christians in the Islamic world. It is a taboo subject with the world press - Harassment and persecution of Christians in the Islamic world is nothing new, it has gone on for years, but no one seems to care
At last someone with authority has come out and brought it to the notice of those concerned. I hope the US together with the EU & Russia will get involved and put Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia & Indonesia on notice.
That the world is watching very closely as to how the minorities are treated in their countries.
Bravo Archbishop Chaput! I have the highest respect for this shepherd of souls. He is a prophetic orthodox Archbishop who is not afraid to speak the truth about controversial topics. Archbishop Chaput is reputed to be a holy man.
The Roman Catholic Church needs more bishops like him. There is a need for solid Catholic leaders who have a strong paternal commitment to protect persecuted Catholics from malicious Muslims and the politically correct western press.
Sadly, the western press does absolutely nothing to expose the Muslim persecution against Christians. They are worthless group of people in reporting the truth about Islam to the western world.
Further to Hugh's advice.

Archbishop Chaput is a wise, completely orthodox and personally committed shepherd of his flock. Pray that he can rally the other bishops as well.
In Pakistan on May 6, 1998, Bishop John Joseph of Faisalabad, seeing no other way to save the life of a Christian about to be sentenced to death for blasphemy, publicly committed suicide in front of the court. Although suicide is considered a grave sin in the Catholic Faith, this one fell under one of those very rare exceptions to the rule such as the case of the suicide of Samson.
Since the scripture clearly says that "there is no greater love than that a man lay down his life for his friends" and the Bishop sacrificed his own life, not out of personal despair, but to save the innocent life of another, his suicide is not considered sinful. In fact, he may be beatified as a martyr.
Its about time we have some Catholic cleric not ready to lick the boots of the PC crowd! Is it not strange that when a Christian wants to make a point,
he kills himself and not innocent people! take that you disgusting Koranic culture!!!!
I only hope that the Archbishop George Pell here in Australia is listening, especially after he was in a church in Sydney having Christmas carols when some from the "Religion of Peace" sprayed the building with 20 shots.
No media coverage, even though this has NEVER happened to my knowledge in Australia before.
I hope George Pell now also speaks out after experiencing Islamic Peace during the "race" riots.

Give them the following book:
"Futuhul Habasha", which describes the murderous jihad against Christian Ethiopia by Ahmed Gragn. It is impossible to put down because it is a direct translation of what the Muslim fanatical butcher himself describes.
You may also subscribe to "The Voice of the Martyrs" magazine by Pastor Wurmbrand. It describes atrocities against Christians worldwide. And guess who is first on the list of perpetrators by a wide margin? The Muslims.

Yeah. good thing this. But sometimes I'm reluctant to support these statements as many of these 'Archbishops' include "Hindu extremists" in their laundry list of persecutors.
