What Alice Miles says about Britain applies equally well to other places -- including the U.S., if the current pressure ends up stopping the monitoring of mosques for radiation for good (some reports indicate that the program has already ended).
From the Times Online, with thanks to JE:
The current confusion, combined with unspecific, but dire, warnings from the police of an imminent terror “spectacular”, leaves politicians in a panic. The demand for a 90-day detention that was blocked, the control orders that were watered down, the summary expulsions that didn’t happen, the Britishness test for imams that was dropped, the mosques that weren’t closed . . . this is politics operating in a fog. Just so that they can say: we tried to do everything we could. When Tony Blair refused this month to hold a public inquiry into July 7, critics claimed that he had something to hide. Would that that were true.
Political correctness in all it's glory.
Pathetic.
Western society is like the Tower of Babel.
Everyone has their own agenda, their own ideas of what the truth is.
There is no up, no down...no good, no bad...no truth...everything is just a foggy shade of grey..and people are groping about blindly and exclaimng loudly how everyone should follow THEM.
THEY know where they are going.
Like hell they do.
I want to share this e-mail with you mates.
The American Military
The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's; but he has never collected unemployment either.
He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away.
He listens to rock and roll, or hip-hop, or rap, or jazz, or swing, and 155 mm howitzer.
He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk.
He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark.
He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must.
He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional.
He can march until he is told to stop or stop until he is told to march.
He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient.
He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry.
He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle.
He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.
If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food.
He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low.
He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands.
He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job.
He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay and still find ironic humor in it all.
He has seen more suffering and death then he should have
in his short lifetime.
He has stood atop mountains of dead bodies, and helped to create them. He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed.
He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away' those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking.
In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful.
Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy.
He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.
He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding. Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood.
And now we even have woman over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so.
As you go to bed tonight, remember this shot..
A short lull, a little shade and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.
Prayer wheel for our military... please don't break it. Please send this on after a short prayer.
Prayer Wheel :
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen."
Prayer :
When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our ground troops in Afghanistan, sailors on ships, and airmen in the air, and for those in Iraq.
There is nothing attached....
This can be very powerful.......
Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Sailor, Coastguardsman, Marine or Airman, prayer is the very best one.
I would ask that next time anyone in authority decides to coddle a brown eyed mullet radical Muslim, think about this first.
From the article:
Some are comfortably off, some are relatively deprived. (In the UK none, of course, are really poor.) Some are unemployed, some have good jobs. One is a 'lonely misfit', another is 'such a nice bloke, outgoing and fun'. Some liked cricket, some didn't. Some travelled to Pakistan, others didn't. Some have been whitewater rafting some haven't. Some have done macho bonding things in training camps, others, like the second shoe bomber who backed out at the last minute, are weedy and bookish.
So what do all these people have in common? It's tricky, I know. Well, they are all male and under 40. Let's say under 50, if you count inflammatory preachers like Abu Hamza. So, male and under 50, and, what else? Oh yes, that's it, Muslim.
The age and gender profile may change. The older, first generation of Muslim immigrants had little knowledge of their religion and were grateful to be in Britain. As second and third generations grow older, there is no reason why they should not be true Muslims. And as for women, well female 'Palestinian' suicide bombers have been known to blast their way through the glass ceiling. So eventually a terrorist could be any age and male or female.
So what remains when constructing a profile? Muslim. That's it. Any Muslim must come under suspicion. And that is a disturbing thought.
its hard to fight the fight, when Democrats and their liberal media doesn't want to think 9-11 existed, you fight the bad guys in court! they saboutage the GOP with leaks from the CIA to the NYT, and about wiretaps, etc. they want to coddle the terrorist with more confort and rights than they
should have! l think more wake up calls will unite the country and world. in fact most Cdn thinks terrorists are not threatened them, they did not vote for the Iraq war! much of the Western world is still alseep! when the liberal media do the talking points of the terrorist, l know we are in need of help!
This morning on Fox & Friends, Howard Safir ( NYPD Commissioner from 1996 to 2000) discussed this issue in the clearest terminology . . .although there is a lack of heirarchy in structure the threats all come from Islam.
We need more like Safir!
"... the Government is fighting the terror threat in a total fog."
-- fromt he Alice Miles article
Naturally, Alice Miles herself is foggy about why the fog. Suspended moisture droplets, maybe?
A better answer would be the crippling myths of Islam-as-religion and the Moderate Moslem. To turn a phrase, let's call these the Twin Cower myths.
"When Tony Blair refused this month to hold a public inquiry into July 7, critics claimed that he had something to hide. Would that that were true".
I think the PM made the right decision at this time. Public inquiry could easily undermine, or compromise some of the on going anti-terrorist investigations. I'm sure that he received good counsel on those particluar security concerns in making that decision.
The radical Left thinks Islamists can be controlled and used for political advantage like any minority group. They're playing with plutonium and hope to avoid radiation.

Actually, I find a very liberating thought.
First i would like to thank personally

A state of WAR exists between
All Americans

And the muslim world....
America are you AWAKE YET?
A world-wide fog, and not just, as the British author of the piece above may think, merely a London Particular.
I'm a Londoner. London pea-souper fogs used to be notorious; I can remember the last bad ones of 1959 and 1962 before the Clean Air Act came into force. But no matter how bad visibility is, the buildings beneath remain solid and constant. My Dad used to tell me a story of how one bad night he led a bus along its route (my old man knew the streets particularly well) using a burning rolled up copy of the London Evening News as a torch to guide the driver.
Which is what this site is, and those of us who work from it, and have come to know Bat Ye'or and the others through it. They are the torch bearers through the fog. The principles are there, solid within, and the way is there, solid within. Eventually it will be seen by enough.
It is a foggy day in London town. It has me low
and it has me down.
If the government no longer represents the people,
that spells the end of the implicit contract we
all have to obey the law. That is a troubling
thought, one I ponder every day.
But American it clears by the end of the song.
For, suddenly, I saw you there
And through foggy London town the sun was shining everywhere
Anyway, it's been bright and sunny today, so what are you on about? You could see St Paul's Cathedral from Waterlow Park.
Oh, it's a metaphor...
It's nice to know that there are still places where you get a view of St Pauls. So many old views of the dome are now obscured by the surrounding high rise office blocks. I used to love looking at it from the rooftop playground of my junior school.
Granny W - if you stand in the small park overlooking my little back garden - just two minutes walk from where I'm sitting now - you can see St Paul's, the London Eye, the Gherkin etc. Well not now, obviously - it's dark.
Tourists could flock from all over the world to look at my back garden. They don't, though.
Have you thought of a webcam?

Actually, it's the opening verse to the song, "A
Foggy Day", which Granny immediately picked up ;-)
I guess a better tip o the hat to my UK friends would have been "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley

London fog thing...
Was there not a club in San Francisco in the 60s called The London Fog where The Doors played some early gigs?

It has been established that the act of importing a Moslem is also an act of diminishing freedom.
If Moslems want to whine -- and they always do -- let them bellyache about their itchy beards. They have no call to complain about being singled out for suspicion, given their hate-bloodblust-takeover ideology. No matter how cherished a pet, an animal is to be treated like an animal. If that means a leash, then so be it. Beats getting bitten. Woof woof; oink oink!

It would be quite reasonable to tattoo a bright green "M" on the upper left quadrant of every Moslem's forehead, and to attach an ankle bracelet to every Moslem's left leg.
A senior police officer remarks:
'For if there is nothing linking them, there is no pattern, and the police work on'
Sherlock Holmes must be turning in his grave at the sheer cluelessness.
I guess a better tip o the hat to my UK friends would have been "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square"
As sung by Barbara Cartland? (Possibly the worst noise in the world.)
I only got my first inkling that there was something inherently evil about Islam at the time of the Luxor massacre in November 1997 when 60 tourists were brutally slain by Islamists. Four years later we got 911, but still people didn't know that Muslims are commanded to wage Jihad and still had no inkling of what drives the sort of hatred that produces such atrocities. In October 2002, we had the first Bali atrocity when 202 tourists were murdered, and I listened to the grieving father of one of the murdered hostages asking on the news "What drives the hatred in those who carried out this atrocity?" He obviously knew nothing about Islam, the contents of the Koran, Sira and hadith, but then that made him no different from at least 95% of non-Muslims, who still haven't been informed by reliable sources (and I'm not talking about Esposito, Armstrong and the like because nobody will ever learn anything from them) and still continue to be kept in the dark by a politically correct media and press with axes to grind against those who dare stand up to the Islamists, and a fear of telling the truth in case they might upset a few Muslims. This PC nonsense is our undoing. We need to be told the pure undiluted truth about Islam and all its evil works with no sugarcoating the pill. Islam must be exposed as the fraudulent, callous, dystopian and barbaric death cult that it is. Winston Churchill was a man who never minced words in the River War, and in this quote below:
"If you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves."
This quote probably dates sometime between 1935 and 1945 and sums up the perils of appeasement, and 70 years ago, whilst Germany was massively expanding its armaments industry, a small band of desperate unemployed men made the long trek from Jarrow to London in what would become the famous Jarrow Crusade of 1936. We finally reached the moment of fighting with the odds against us and a precarious chance for survival in the summer of 1940 - and all because we did nothing four or five years earlier. We are at this juncture now, with islamism on the march, a growing and increasingly radical Muslim population, greater torrents of anti-infidel hatred pouring out of the mosques and madrassahs, but still the ever-expanding PC brigade continue to peddle the religion of peace nonsense. I hate to say it, but unless there is a decisive culture change in the West sometime within the next five years and PC gets confined to the dustbin, the future of our civilization looks very bleak indeed, and what will be so bad is the fact that we had everything we needed and far more besides to stop the rot, but chose to slumber on instead, and through this we are betraying future generations who will be faced with the horrific consequences of our PC paralysis.
'murdered hostages' should have read 'murdered tourists'.

Who? The pulp romance writer?
I was thinking of Mel Torme and George Shearing.
Shearing was British, and Mel also sang "A Foggy
day" many times, so that will work.
I had hoped maybe Freddy Gardner had played it
(you know who he is, right?) but I can't find
it in my small collection of his work.

HARVARD TREASON GEORGETOWN TREASON SOCAL TREASON COLUMBIA TREASON
In the face of Chamberlain, I wonder if old Winston could imagine the West in its entirety immersed in total abject defeatism not even a lifetime later.
Could he have imagined intellectual dishonesty on this scale? Could he have tossed through a nightmare involving the EU?
American, I am not familiar with Freddy Gardner, did he have a film musical career that I might have seen him in and not taken on board the name?
I have been trying to find the details of that Churchill quotation with no success. I have found our that it comes from his book The Gathering Storm (vol. 1 of The Second World War), p. 348 (1948) and I believe he is refering to the events of June 1939 but without a copy of the book to hand I cannot be certain. I therefore do not know, and it probably does not really matter, whether he is commenting in retrospect in 1948, or repeating something written or part of a speech from 1939. Whatever, it's good stuff. As is this quotation which I also cannot date or place in context.
"One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Never run away from anything. Never!"
Four not-irrelevant lines from the middle of "A Foggy Day in London Town" were left out:
"I viewed the morning with such alarm
The British Museum had lost its charm
How long, I wondered, could this thing last?
But the age of miracles hadn't passed..."
I told you so. Litotically so.
I was trying to not be verbose.
I'm going to name drop here and boast, Winston Churchill and my Dad once spoke. It was not a protracted exchange. Churchill was on an inspection tour of some bomb damage and Dad was part of the Fire Service team working on the remaining fires. He spoke some suitable words of encouragement and Dad thanked him.
Who? The pulp romance writer?
The very same. She sang it on her album of love songs. Makes your eyes water.
Was it on pink vinyl?
Freddy Gardner was a brilliant British
multi-woodwind instrumentalist who died far too
young at age 39, in 1950 or so. Not a singer.
I won't even look for Barbara Cartland's version of
the tune. I think aging rocker Rod Stewart sings it
on one of his "Great American Songbook" albums, but
yes, I know it is British. I thought it was made
famous by Vera Lynn, who's name will be recognized
by Pink Floyd fans, also aging rockers.

Yes and I would suggest a few ways
1) direct people to this site and others that can inform people, I have gone through the thousand I had printed: the best places to leave them are books in your local bookstore and library in the Islam section. on subway benches, at church, given to people that you have conversations.
2) putting up posters with pictures of MO and some basic facts. I 'm working on this one and someday hope to make it a PDF so others can do the same in their countries and cites.
3) giving away copies of PIG or Eurabia or the many excellent other books from the anti-Jihadi vanguard.
I know I am only one man, with limited time but I feel t hat if everyone took up the challenge it would make a difference.
Spirit of 1683,
Things are bad, but I do not think quite as bad as 1936. Islamists do not control a modern industrialized power. Islam has a long history of terrorism and tyranny, rooted in its theology, which is open for the world to discover, and it is surely doing so, albeit slowly, against a painful headwind of PC ignorance-is-strength. Europe is facing a demographic threat, but is also waking up very quickly. Although there is trouble, it is not as dire as 1683, or 732.
Islam, no matter how deeply rooted, goes against so many human drives, and free cultures and nations still beckon to the oppressed-by-Islam masses. Criticism of Islam is bubbling up, and even Muslims can access it, online, away from prying eyes; censorship is only so effective in the Islamic world, and not at all in the west. Wherever this site, and others like it, are visible, Islam is in real danger. Though Islamic fundamentalists are loud, apostates are quiet, but they are many, and their children and grandchildren will be hard to bring back into the fold.
In the war of ideas our enemies are totally unarmed. Europe is awake to the demographic threat, late though the hour is. Terrorists can kill thousands, but awaken millions when they do so.
Of course, this is no excuse for complacency. It is our responsibility, and I do not mean any sort of royal "we", but you and I and everyone who participates in and reads JW and the like, to think of ways to spread this knowledge. A quiet suspicion, an uncomfortable but undeniable conclusion, a disturbing glimpse of a bloodthirstly, alien theology, awaken one mind at a time, until there is a new conventional wisdom.
Multiculturalism is not really wrong. There is quite a bit about it that is noble and valuable. My neighbors can celebrate Cinco de Mayo, or cook curries all day and night, or speak Swahili, or do dragon dances for the new year in January, and my society will not be significantly altered, my nation will not be destroyed, no one will come to kill me, and my freedoms will be secure. It is only Islam that cannot fit, not because of anything inherent in its believers, but the beliefs themselves. When even the multiculturalists realize this, our victory will be complete.
Quijybo
Hi again American
I've been looking him up on Google, he is very well thought of in jazz/swing circles. Apparently he also played in a Royal Marine Jazz band called the Blue Mariners http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk/history/blumariners.htm which was never well known, unlike the Glenn Miller Band.
Anyway what are you doing peering through cyber space at my record collection? I assure you that the Vera Lynn was my parents, which I keep purely out of sentiment. And the Pink Floyd is my husbands! Honest!
El Cid, we will never know how many people these methods bring to this and other sites, or to the works of Bat Ye'or, but nonetheless I have faith that they are worthwhile and effective. As well as the places you suggest I leave cards on the doors and mirrors of ladies cloakrooms and in bookshops in general history and current affairs sections.
Hi Granny,
If you like swing, and the sound of reeds (alto
sax was Freddy's main "axe") pick up some of his
stuff. I couldn't find a recording of him playing
"Nightingale Sang..." though.
No shame in having Vera Lynn albums. my dear.
Anything from Barbara Cartland, well, let's not talk
about it.
Quijybo,
I don't object to "multiculturalism" per se, but
I object to the idea that all attributes of all
cultures are worthwhile, and that some cultures are
beyond criticism. Certainly, all of the nice stuff you mention, like celebration and partying and dancing are good (not for muslim "culture"!) but
other things aren't so good. It really depends on
how you use the word.
Never Fear--
The Brits can always scapegoat America!!! That'll make Islam give up the jihad ghost for sure in England!!!
Why, just ask the friendly anti-American folks at the BBC or The Guardian or New Statesman journals!!!
No???
Quijybo, this is worse than 1936. At least we could fight back against Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan once war began, and by mid-1943 we knew we were at least winning the war, even if many dark days lay ahead before final victory, and final victory meant the end of these regimes forever. But with Islam, this is an insidious takeover of modern day industrial powers by demographic stealth and the gradual wearing down of our resolve through terrorism. But unlike during World War II, we also have a PC brigade and a ragbag army of apologists doing the Islamists dirty work for them. We never had the media undermining our armed forces in 1943. Neither did we have leaders praising the doctrines of our foes. To listen to the likes of Bush and Rice describing Islam as a religion of peace is a gross exercise in vomit-induction. Could you have imagined Churchill or Roosevelt describing Nazism as "inherently peaceful if only Hitler wasn't Germany's Fuehrer"? Certainly not. If we want to win this battle for our civilization, we have to go onto the offensive against Islam itself. We have to be like Churchill, Adams etc and not be afreaid to tell the truth about Islam. Would Islam still be around today if the Internet and all the 21st century wizardry we take for granted was available to the likes of John Quincy Adams and Jan Sobieski? I doubt it.
"Could you have imagined Churchill or Roosevelt describing Nazism as "inherently peaceful if only Hitler wasn't Germany's Fuehrer"?"
No more than I can imagine so-called "moderate" Muslims stepping up to the plate and fighting the anti-Jihad effectively... It will never happen if it hasn't happened already... Islam is only going in one direction, and it's all BAD...
I am now nearly convinced that nothing short of the annihilation of this defective and cancerous ideology of Islam is necessary in order to save the rest of humanity from utter degradation under Islamic rule... What will such a thing take? Will it destroy us in the process?
I am fearful that in order to survive we will be required to turn into something which we wouldn't wish to be -- Our lives, our freedoms, our decency may already be beyond salvation because of Islam...
Soon, we may only envision two choices -- become monstrous ourselves and destroy Islam and thereby survive, or be subsumed by Islam and perish...
All that we cherish, all that our forebears have fought, paid, and died for over the millenia is now threatened by this malignant disease of Islam... Yet we still tolerate its presence on our soil -- we still look to see Muslims confronting the Jihad of their co-religionists and we look in vain... I rue the day that their sadistic "prophet" reared his ugly head and set his ideology of perpetual destruction and hatred into motion...
