DAMADOLA, Pakistan - Sympathy for al-Qaida has surged after a U.S. airstrike devastated this remote mountain hamlet in a region sometimes as hostile toward the Pakistani government as it is to the United States. A week after the attack, villagers insist no members of the terror network were anywhere near the border village when it was hit. But thousands of protesters flooded a nearby town chanting, ''Long live Osama bin Laden!''Pakistan's army, in charge of hunting militants, was nowhere to be seen.
The rally was the latest in a series of demonstrations across Pakistan against the Jan. 13 attack, which apparently targeted but missed al-Qaida's No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahri.
The military still mans numerous checkpoints in the area, but it appears to be keeping a low profile so it will not inflame villagers still seething over the deaths of 13 civilians, including women and children, in the attack.
Pakistani intelligence officials believe that four top al-Qaida operatives may have also been killed in the strike including al-Qaida's master bomb maker, Midhat Mursi, who has a $5 million U.S. bounty on his head.
The men had gathered for dinner on the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha to plan attacks for early this year in Afghanistan and Pakistan, a senior Pakistani intelligence official said.
''This attack has increased our hatred for Americans because they are killing innocent women and children,'' said Zakir Ullah, one of 5,000 demonstrators in Inayat Qala, a market town about three miles from Damadola.''We support jihad [holy war]. Jihad is the duty of every Muslim,'' he said...
I don't think there's any coincidence in the timing between the missile strike and Osama's "peace" offering. Among the 18 dead, is one of Zawahiri's sons. This probably hit them very, very hard. Yes, there are others willing to step into the breach, but A-Q is such a cult of personality as well as ideology, that it will seriously weaken the organization.
And someone, somewhere in Pakistan is looking forward to receiving the $5M bounty on Midhat Mursi's head.

It's just making more targets for the CIA. The ultimate end-game of all of this is that the non-Muslim world could decide to turn Mecca into a roach motel. The Islamic canon requires every Muslim to perform the hajj at least once in their lifetime. They don't have a choice. They are commanded to do this by Allah. Jihad or no jihad. They must go. The requirement cannot be changed or abrogated. The defensive strategy of the non-Muslim world could ultimately involve the use of this immutable commandment to just wait for the lemmings to arrive every year, sort of like migrating ducks during open season. Excuse me, but when did the people in this region stop supporting Osama bin Hiding? I seriously doubt that any of the people who were killed in the missle strike were friends of the USA to begin with and were protecting the scumbag Al Qaida terrorists. I know we could get OBL if the Pakistanis were really cooperating. My feeling is that the CIA has finally shown some balls. They also let the people in the region who have been hiding the terrorists know that doing so could very well cost them their lives. The way I see it is if they continue to shelter the OBL's then they get what they deserve. Kick some more ass, CIA!

I have found little about the true targets, and why those killed were there. The actions by the crouds suggest a posible high profile target was killed.
The first attack was against the U.S.A , and the last will be from the U.S.
