Bostom: Meet Candidate “Martyr Mom”

Andrew Bostom profiles the egregious Umm Nidal in FrontPage:

Umm Nidal Farhat mothered three Hamas terrorist sons all of whom were killed while participating in so-called martyrdom operations aimed at slaughtering Israelis, indiscriminately, whether military personnel, or civilians. She relished the most notorious of these actions, the murderous rampage by her son Muhammad:
I prayed from the depths of my heart that Allah would cause the success of his operation. I asked Allah to give me 10 [Israelis] for Muhammad, and Allah granted my request and Muhammad made his dream come true, killing 10 Israeli settlers and soldiers. Our God honored him even more, in that there were many Israelis wounded.

In recognition, Umm Nidal was bestowed the honorific appellation Khansaa Filastin after the poetess Al-Khansaa, a convert to Islam and contemporary of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad. Al-Khansaa is deemed “the mother of the Shahids” because she did not mourn when her four sons died in the battle of Al-Qadasiyya (637), instead thanking Allah who had “honored her with their deaths.”

Propelled by this notoriety, which the larger Palestinian Muslim society clearly extolled, including “moderate” Professor Sari Nusseibah (who stated on Al-Jazeera television [Qatar], June 29, 2002, “When I hear the words of Umm Nidal, I recall the [hadith] stating that ‘Paradise lies under the feet of mothers’. All respect is due to this mother, it is due to every Palestinian mother and every female Palestinian who is a Jihad fighter on this land”), Umm Nidal is now a proud candidate for the Palestinian Legislative Council in the forthcoming late January elections. During a recent interview, Umm Nidal made clear the normative Islamic context of her willingness to sacrifice three sons as “martyrs”:

I protect my sons from defying Allah, or from choosing a path that would not please Allah. This is what I fear, when it comes to my sons. But as for sacrifice, Jihad for the sake of Allah, or performing the duty they were charged with - this makes me happy… "I prepared all my sons for Jihad for the sake of Allah, whether by carrying out an attack, or by any other form of Jihad. I prepared myself for this. He who chooses a difficult road must be ready to bear the consequences.
Umm Nidal's religious views are supported by both the contemporary pronouncements of acclaimed Muslim Brotherhood cleric Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, and the research of Professor Franz Rosenthal. At the July 2003 meeting (in Stockholm) of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, which he heads, Sheikh Al-Qaradawi stated,
Those who oppose martyrdom operations and claim that they are suicide are making a great mistake. The goals of the one who carries out a martyrdom operation and of the one who commits suicide are completely different. Anyone who analyzes the soul of [these two] will discover the huge difference between them. The [person who commits] suicide kills himself for himself, because he failed in business, love, an examination, or the like. He was too weak to cope with the situation and chose to flee life for death…In contrast, the one who carries out a martyrdom operation does not think of himself. He sacrifices himself for the sake of a higher goal, for which all sacrifices become meaningless. He sells himself to Allah in order to buy Paradise in exchange. Allah said: 'Allah has bought from the believers their souls and their properties for they shall inherit Paradise…While the [person who commits] suicide dies in escape and retreat, the one who carries out a martyrdom operation dies in advance and attack. Unlike the [person who commits] suicide, who has no goal except escape from confrontation, the one who carries out a martyrdom operation has a clear goal, and that is to please Allah.

In his seminal 1946 essay, “On Suicide in Islam.” (Journal of the American Oriental Society, Vol. 66, pp. 243, 256), Rosenthal observed, consistent with Qaradawi’s statements:

While the Qur’anic attitude toward suicide remains uncertain, the great authorities of the hadith leave no doubt as to the official attitude of Islam. In their opinion suicide is an unlawful act....On the other hand, death as the result of “suicidal” missions and of the desire of martyrdom occurs not infrequently, since death is considered highly commendable according to Muslim religious concepts. However, such cases are no[t] suicides in the proper sense of the term. (Emphasis added.)

Moreover, in this exchange with her interviewer on December 21, 2005, Umm Nidal recapitulates another normative Islamic doctrine, the concept of Dar al Harb, where the lives (and possessions) of all the non-Muslim “harbis” (in this case, all Israelis) are muba’a, or licit for the Muslims:

Interviewer: Can't you distinguish between operations against civilians and against soldiers, even from a psychological point of view?"

Umm Nidal: There is no difference. This is Islamic religious law. I don't invent anything. I follow Islamic religious law in this. A Muslim is very careful not to kill an innocent person, because he knows he would be destined to eternal Hell. So the issue is not at all simple. We rely on Islamic religious law when we say there is no prohibition on killing these people.

Once again, Umm Nidal’s understandings are substantiated by both Sheikh Qaradawi’s contemporary statements, and the writings of the mid-20th century Belgian scholar Armand Abel, a noted expert on the concept of Dar al Harb. Qaradawi stated the following in July 2003:

It has been determined by Islamic law that the blood and property of people of Dar Al-Harb [the Domain of Disbelief where the battle for the domination of Islam should be waged] is not protected. Because they fight against and are hostile towards the Muslims, they annulled the protection of his blood and his property… in modern war, all of society, with all its classes and ethnic groups, is mobilized to participate in the war, to aid its continuation, and to provide it with the material and human fuel required for it to assure the victory of the state fighting its enemies. Every citizen in society must take upon himself a role in the effort to provide for the battle. The entire domestic front, including professionals, laborers, and industrialists, stands behind the fighting army, even if it does not bear arms. Therefore the experts say that the Zionist entity, in truth, is one army.

Nearly a half century earlier (in 1958), Armand Abel observed,

Together with the duty of the “war in the way of God” (or jihad), this universalistic aspiration would lead the Moslems to see the world as being divided fundamentally into two parts. On the one hand there was that part of the world where Islam prevailed, where salvation had been announced, where the religion that ought to reign was practiced; this was the Dar ul Islam. On the other hand, there was the part which still awaited the establishment of the saving religion and which constituted, by definition, the object of the holy war. This was the Dar ul Harb. The latter, in the view of the Moslem jurists, was not populated by people who had a natural right not to practice Islam, but rather by people destined to become Moslems who, through impiousness and rebellion, refused to accept this great benefit. Since they were destined sooner or later to be converted at the approach of the victorious armies of the Prophet’s successor, or else killed for their rebelliousness, they were the rebel subjects of the Caliph. Their kings were nothing but odious tyrants who, by opposing the progress of the saving religion together with their armies, were following a Satanic inspiration and rising up against the designs of Providence. And so no respite should be granted them, no truce: perpetual war should be their lot, waged in the course of the winter and summer ghazu. [razzias] If the sovereign of the country thus attacked desired peace, it was possible for him, just like for any other tributary or community, to pay the tribute for himself and for his subjects..indeed, anything within the reach of the Moslem armies as they advanced, being property of impious men and rebels, was legitimately considered their booty; their men, seized by armed soldiers, were mercilessly consigned to the lot specified in the Koranic verse about the sword, and their women and children were treated like things.

When will our policymaking and media elites finally learn and acknowledge the daily impact of barbaric, yet normative Muslim doctrines—rooted in jihad—such as “martyrdom” and “Dar al Harb”? And how moribund is our world that the mother of three murderous jihad terrorists—a triumphal “Martyr Mom”—can run for elective office in the Palestinian Legislative Council, and this harrowing spectacle is regarded with the same banality by these elites as if she were a “Soccer Mom”?

Behold the power of Islam. It severes even the mother-child tie, so deep and so primal as to be a universal animal instinct - the preservation of the young. All living things observe the force of mother protection, of mother love. How powerful must be the force of evil to untie it.

This exposes the depth of depravity & evil that Islam could instill, even in the mind of a mother, whose natural instinct should be the protection her off springs.
Islam is the curse of the 21ts century.Islam promotes barbarism. We lose sight of things like this because of all the bad news we hear from the Muslim world. Non believers are the biggest victims of Islam, but Muslims are victims too. Their victimology is self-imposed, much like a drug addict's. And just like the drug addict, it is difficult to break this habit and they need support. We need to be that support for those Muslims that are not afraid to question their religion. We need to show them that there is nothing in Islam that is worth believing because it is morally bankrupt. We need to explain to them, politely, the sordid history of Islam and how it has primitivized & brain washed Muslims.

Ironic that Muslims celebrate, on Eid ul-Adha, the story of when Abraham didn't have to kill Isaac. Some Old Testament commentators see that story as a biblical prohibition against child sacrifice that was apparently happening in Abraham's time.

You'd think someone would put 2 and 2 together.

Ironic that Muslims celebrate, on Eid ul-Adha, the story of when Abraham didn't have to kill Isaac.

Mohammed probably stuck that bit in to give the new "religion" a bit of credibility. There's quite a lot of garbled stuff from Judaism and Christianity in the Koran. He gets the story wrong, I think. He says Abraham was going to sacrifice Ishmael, not Isaac.

And I'll ask again, what qualifications does this woman have for a Palestinian "government" post other than being stark raving looney?

I mean, the legislators are going to have to do things like approving budgets, appropriations for projects in the territories, introducing laws that regulate foreign policy... which has a little more to it than suicide bombings. And her credentials are...? Education? Experience?

No wonder that government's left hand never knows what it's right hand is doing.

Good point... could someone bring be up to speed on the Isaac/Ishmael thing? They told us in World Religions back in high school that "Ismail" was just Arabic for "Isaac." Crap, right?

Did Mo just switch around who was who?

God loves the little children
All the children of the world

Red and yellow black and white
they are precious in his site

Jesus loves the little children of the world..

God NEVER EVER intended for a woman to bear children to sacrifice them on the alter of
ALLAH as a human sacrifice ...

God never ever intended for men, women and children to be blown up as a way to gain access to him,..

This shows the Sheer sickness of the religion of
Islam...

God created life...
God sent his son to save live...
This is what we believe...

But when i look at ALL the Horrors and acts
Committed by Islam
It Proves each and every day that Islam
Is from SATAN himself..

War makes the heart cold and Islam is very cold indeed. Even the dhimmis become accustomed to the cold. Today 5 US soldiers died today in a roadside bomb explosion. It hardly got a mention in the MSM.

grim reading indeed, yes war does make the heart cold and islam is very cold indeed.
However folks we are not and here is something to warm you all.

Two Middle Eastern women are sitting in the cafe strip chatting over a pint of goat's milk.

The older of the women pulls her bag out and starts flipping through pictures and they start reminiscing.

"This is my oldest son Mohammed. He's 24 years old now"

"Yes, I remember him as a baby" says the other mother cheerfully.

"He's a martyr now though" mum confides.

"Oh so sad dear" says the other.

"And this is my second son Kalid. He's 21"

"Oh, I remember him" says the other happily, "he had such curly hair when he was born".

"He's a martyr too " says mum quietly.

"Oh gracious me ...." says the other.

"And this is my third son. My baby. My beautiful Ahmed. He's 18", she whispers.

"Yes" says the friend enthusiastically, "I remember when he first started school".

"He's a martyr also," says mum, with tears in her eyes.

After a pause and a deep sigh, the second woman looks wistfully at the photographs and says...

"They blow up so fast, don't they?"

We have a sense of humour that is an advantage they will never have.

Regards to all

Despicable as Umm Nidal is, and wrongheaded as our policy in Iraq is (as Mr. Fitzgerald has so eloquently pointed out) the contrast between Nidal and Cindy Sheehan shows why, in the long run they will win and we will lose.

"On the other hand, there was the part which still awaited the establishment of the saving religion and which constituted, by definition, the object of the holy war. ....Their kings were nothing but odious tyrants who, by opposing the progress of the saving religion together with their armies, were following a Satanic inspiration and rising up against the designs of Providence."
(from the article)

This reminds me of a dream. I'm swimming in the ocean, enjoying the sunshine on my face, the cool breeze, the salt water, the song of the seagulls, the sound of children's laughter on the shore. Suddenly, I feel something around my throat, pulling at me. There's something dark and hooded and foreboding pulling me down. "Let go!" I scream, "you're drowning me!". The evil, hooded figure pulling me down whispers, "No, my dear , I'm SAVING you! Ha Ha Ha Ha!". Suddenly, dark clouds obliterate the sun. The water goes cold and chilly. The sea gulls screech. The children are gone - I can't hear the laughter any more. The struggle goes on for what seems like an eternity. I try to scream but I can't. Finally, just as I can feel that I'm being pulled under for good and drowned, I manage to cry out, but it's barely audible and it comes out in slow motion..."BUT.. I... DON'T... WANT... TO... BE... SAVED!!!"

I abruptly wake from the nightmare.:-)

"in the long run they will win and we will lose."
-- from a posting above

I don't think so, for two reasons.

One, that famous quote of Churchill in "The River Wars" about Christianity nestled "in the strong arms of science." Or as it was said at the time about other primitives: "We have the Gatling-gun, and they have not." We have weaponry, that we created, and that we possess, and that as along as we keep ahead of them, and stop allowing them to acquire certain kinds of weaponry, and cease offering either education in science, or access to Western laboratories, can force the states of the Dar al-Islam into relying on their own intellects -- which is to say, given that Islam and Science do not mix, they will forever remain less powerful.

Two, I think that the Western world will realize in time that the Benes Decree solution, or some variant of it, makes sense. I think people will realize that they are not acting harshly, but reasonably, in wishing to severely limit the Muslim presence in Dar al-Harb. It makes no sense -- none -- to admit, or to allow to settle, and to breed and overbreed -- people whose declared loyalty to a particular belief-system makes them enemies of Infidels, makes them recipients of instructions not to take Infidels as friends (save feignedly, to protect Islam), to owe their entire loyalty to the umma al-islamiyya, the Community of Believers, to regard as a sacred duty the Jihad, which is the "struggle" or campaign to spread Islam until it covers, but not merely covers, but also dominates the entire globe. This is not a fantastic notion -- not fantastic to most Muslims. And even with those Muslims who are not actively pursuing this, their mere presence as "moderates" who refuse to abandon Islam, and refuse to admit to what it teaches (because if they were to admit to such, then the next question Infidels would naturally wish answered would be: "They why do you remain a Muslim if it teaches and inculcates such things?"), one must regard them as Benes and Masasryk and the Czechs in 1946 regarded the Sudeten Germans. Some were definitely collaborators with Hitler. All were beneficiaries, as Volksdeutche were everywhere, from the Nazi invasion and occupation. The Czechs had no way of knowing what would happen should some future possible threat arise from Germany, or from Austria. They weren't taking chances.

Given that the history of Islam, and the texts of Islam, are so clear on the matter, it takes a deliberate effort not to study, not to find out, to prefer the most transparent apologetics for Islam because one simply cannot sit down, and calmly figure out the thousand things that could be done to check, and even reverse, the power and presence of Islam.

But it will happen. In Europe, elections will demonstrate that many people are alarmed, and willing to vote for someone, anyone, who promises to help deal with Islam -- and this means anyone. It would be preferable if such candidates were respectable, and within the major parties. But the anxiety and fury are growing.

No one can deny the following:

The large-scale presence of Muslims within the Bilad al-kufr, the Lands of the Infidels, has made the lives of those Infidels more unpleasant, expensive, and physically dangerous than they would otherwise be.

The next question is: what can be done about it, or rather, what things, what list of things, can be done about it?

And the first thing is to stop being inhibited, stop thinking there are things which simply can't be thought.

Was Tomas Masaryk awful? Was Eduard Benes?

No? You're right, they weren't. But now I want you to tell me in detail why they weren't.

Go ahead. Take all the time in the world.

Hugh: "And even with those Muslims who are not actively pursuing this, their mere presence as "moderates" who refuse to abandon Islam, and refuse to admit to what it teaches (because if they were to admit to such, then the next question Infidels would naturally wish answered would be: "They why do you remain a Muslim if it teaches and inculcates such things?")..."

Yes, that is the question I would like answered. And I will start by asking that question of sometime poster here, Thomas Haidon.

Dear Mr. Haidon,
You are obviously an intelligent and sensitive man. Why do you remain a Muslim when you are so obviously aware that it teaches and inculcates such things?

Besides that question I will add a comment. The fact that so many westerners have drifted away from organized religion is proof positive that leaving a religion is not the "traumatic" experience that so many people would like to pretend. I am aware of the number of nominal Muslims who simply can't do so because they literally might be killed. But there are obviously many for whom this isn't the case. As far as I am concerned they are making a conscious choice to essentially provide cover for the radicals, whether due to cowardice or identity problems or merely not wishing to create inconvenient friction with their family and friends. Too bad. It's not an excuse. Plenty of posters here and readers of JW have been forced to sever family and friendship ties because they dared to speak up about Islam and were called "racists" and "nazis" and all sorts of ugly names. Plenty of westerners have endured a great deal of conflict with their more traditional parents and grandparents when they abandoned their formal identities as members of the faiths they were raised in. So I'm afraid I'm not all that sympathetic towards nominal Muslims themselves who might have to pay the price of sacrificing some family and friendship ties for the overall benefit of human civilization, by simply GETTING OUT OF THE WAY! Stop identifying yourselves as Muslims. And please spare me the tears about how hard it is to abandon your religious identity. Been there, done that and I'm not buying it.

RBLA-

The Japanese kamikazee mentality looked equally appalling and unstoppable... in 1942. Three years later, it was glowing ashes in their imperialistic mitts.

Islam's CRAZY MOTHERS face the same response from an "awakened giant".

Once it finally fully awakens.

Right now, we're in a twilight sleep of somnabulistic self-defeating / self-loathing fools (NY Times/Congresspeople opposing the NSA's spying on Al-Qaeda, etc.), but, once enough deaths occur in the West to rouse the majority, Islam and its fatalistic fanatics are doomed.

It has just been taking the "giant" a long time to rouse because we don't like to have to kill a lot of people. In the "West" we are basically more interested with promoting a richer life, not squashing psychically-hydrophobic maniacs.

But we did it with the Banzai boys, and we''ll eventually do it with the Imperialistic Islamic idiots.

Let them trumpet their Muslo-madness all they like, now. It will be a cold bloody porridge of their own viciousness thrown back in their faces in the end.

'Islamic Blow Back' will be a lesson that one can only hope expunges this sick cult from the Earth. And frees a billion minds from the 'holy' headlock of Hadithic sickness.

Hatred and humorlessness, as the philosopher A. N. Whitehead said, is always essentially unstable.

That will be their undoing.

If you look at what just 12 years of intense indoctrination did to German youth then I really do doubt that many muslims are capable of breaking the chains that 1450 years has polished into some tungsten steel straightjackets of the intellect.

This indoctrination is so comprehensive and so intense that very few muslims are capable of even perceiving the inherent contradictions within almost all tenets of Islam. What many people fail to understand is that most Muslims do believe the gargbage that they utter and ae utterly incapable of ever countenancing the truth.

It takes an act of provocation plus an extremely strongwill, great courage and no small intellect to break these bonds.

Even the forced closure of those hotbeds of lies and jihad: mosques and madrassas, will not stop this level of indoctrination as it has been so successful for so long.

It is MHO that even a moderate secular Muslim who admits to the contradictions inherent in Islam and rarely attends the mosque but does nothing about it and who st ill has 5-7 children
is a threat and not only ademographic one as his children will show more alienation and far less moderation.

They all should ship back to the sewers of islam whence they came,ie, the middle east. Let them have their just des(s)erts.
