Reporters Without Borders voiced concern today about the Jordanian parliament’s call yesterday for the punishment of the cartoonist who drew 12 caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed that appeared in the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten on 30 September and were reprinted in the Norwegian publication Magazinet on 10 January.“Islam forbids any representation of the Prophet and we realize that these cartoons may upset some people, but it is not acceptable for the parliament of a supposedly democratic country to call for the cartoonists to be punished,” the press freedom organisation said.
“Those who so desire may bring a complaint against the newspaper, but politicians should under no circumstances should call for direct reprisals against journalists,” Reporters Without Borders continued. “The cartoonists have already received death threats and these new statements put them in further danger.”
In a statement yesterday, the Jordanian parliament said the cartoons “constitute a cowardly and reprehensible crime” and urged the Norwegian and Danish authorities “to express their condemnation and disapproval of this hateful crime and to punish the perpetrators and instigators.”
It also called on “parliaments, governments and civil society organisations in the Muslim world to take a firm position on this evil, which strikes at the sentiments of the Arabo-Muslim nation.”

I think I have to point out that though I don't like muslim aggression/domination there has also been a period in time where christianity was spread through violence; During the crusades. The crusades to the middle east and north africa ultimaltely failed in their objective to secure control of these areas, something that can be seen as lamentable for us who lives today, but it wasn't to be. WOOHOO! The muslim boycott has started to take effect in Saudi Arabia.
A list of Danish owned companies was "made public" yesterday in Saudi Arabia. One chain of retailers has already thrown out all products from Arla Foods, and the companies importer of Feta cheese, has already cancelled a large order. Furthermore a series of meetings are scheduled between Arla and several of its larger customers.
Apparently they want to throw out Arla's products unless our government formally apologizes.
God, I wish our government would simply say, "Fine. You wanna boycott us, then we'll withdraw all financial aid to muslim nations, and let the companies you boycott have their losses reimbursed with money meant to help you". I know that's not gonna happen, but I'd love it so very very much.
Every Western country should publish these cartoons.
Then, hopefully, these Islamic countries will boycott us all...and those Islamic countries can eat sand and drink oil.

Yes, I'll gladly admit that I'm happy that this has stirred up controversy and Muslims are angry about some stupid cartoons. This is a great example of their ultimate wishes of removing our freedoms from us and inflating their already too-high egos.
The cartoons in question are also, might I add, quite tame. I've seen them and they're not too bad. Imagine their reaction should someone come along and create an image that is truly outrageous, blasphemous, and worthy of anger.
The question is, however, is any image imagined by anyone worthy of death threats?
As a free society, we should continue pushing this button and bring the rats out into the light. As they say: a picture is worth a thousand words. They want to take away our ability to question Islamic beliefs as well as any creative ways we may come up with to express our ideas. This isn't just an attack against a few cartoonists who drew a few silly pictures (though that's a pretty laughable idea in an of itself) but an attack against freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and democratic ideals.
I'm currently putting the finishes on an illustration that should make the Danish cartoons look pale by comparison. Once finished, I'll be looking to send it around and to express my freedoms a little. Will that make me a target of some Muslim rage? Possibly, but life isn't worth living if you don't take a stand for something you believe in. I'd also much rather be condemned for something I've done rather than something I haven't done.
This is a calling to anyone with a creative bone in their bodies: draw, paint and sculpt Muhammad as much as possible! Relish in your freedom -they hate us for it and wish to take it away!!
Everyone knows that Saudi Arabia is the most intolerant country in the world (relgiously and otherwise). They forbid practice of any non-Muslim religion, while they fund the building of Mosques in many western countries, including in Denmark.
If the Saudis boycott Danish products, let's not let them isolate the Danes. For any Danish product they boycott, other companies in other countries should refuse to sell that same product to the Saudis.
Of course, we need to go much further with the Saudis. We need to cut down immediately, and in steps, on the amount of oil we buy from them. We need to withdraw western help in terms of engineers, business people, etc., and let the Saudis fend for themselves. Every time Saudi Arabia tries to put pressure on us, we need to respond with a step of reduction of what we are giving them. They want to keep those archaic Islamic laws? Let's find out just how far they're really willing to go in their defence of their indefensible fraud/scam of a culture.
And we need to put the U.N. to the test on Saudi Arabia. If the U.N. can screw around and waste time (and millions upon millions of OUR money) on some cartoons, surely they can do their jobs to defend religious freedom in Saudi Arabia. What is it, exactly, that the U.N. does?

I skimmed thru it, but reread the section of Danish Penal Code that defines the crime. I appreciate the Danish local prosecutor's interpretation of that law and his decision to not prosecute.
Seems like his decision to not prosecute, tho, could have easily gone the other way - seeing how that law is written. The way it's written is pretty scary. Glad we don't have it here (yet).

Clear reason Muslims cannot allow any seeming ridicule of the "prophet": The entire religion is a lie. The only way to maintain the lie is to shield it from any possible criticism or question. If Mohammed can be ridiculed (in any way) it will lead toward critical analysis about his life and teachings. That is death to Islam as Islam cannot stand scrutiny.
Islam is similar to the "Wizard of Oz". The entire "Oz" thing was smoke, mirrors and a crazy old man. However, the idea of Oz was protected from any question. The object of Penal Code S.135 is the protection of religious sentiments against public insults.
The statute is seldomly invoked, perhaps only by reason of prosecutorial discretion.
The prohibition is broadly worded, and though public consensus militates against proscription of artistic and political expression, there is no binding judicial or administrative construction clearly seperating the permissible from the impermissible. It seems that artistic expression is protected, but there is no guidelines according to which artistic merit is to be evaluated.
Some years ago I caught an interest in the state of censorship worldwide, and I was shocked when I discovered that my country has laws on the statutory book outlawing blasphemy (Penal Code S.135), insults to
the United Nations, foreign nations and their national flags and symbols (Penal Code S.110E) and a similarly worded prohibition on public communication threatening, insulting or degrading groups on the ground of race, color, faith and sexual orientation (Penal Code S.266B).
I am Danish, and I can attest to the fact that free speech protection is very limited under Danish law.
