The BBC are having a bit of a problem lately, something of an identity crisis. The hierarchy is still very pro-Palestinian. But I believe that certain of the rank and file have realised that there is a war on and it might be a good idea to finish on the winning side especially as a large swath of of licence paying public opinion is contrary to the official BBC view. When will the BBC be cleaned up? What will it take? Removal of the oversight of the BBC World Service by the Foreign Office? Removal of John Simpson? It is not enough to get Orla Guerlin assigned elsewhere, or to send the egregious Barbara Plett to Afghanistan after her weeping on air for Arafat (tends to make listeners question her "objectivity"). No, a complete cleaning, so that people can begin to get the real news about Islam, unmediated through antisemitism (in its acceptable guise of anti-Israel sentiments) and anti-Americanism.

Start by googling "John Simpson" and "jihad watch" and see if what you find is of interest. Then google "BBC" and "Trevor Asserson" or, in the alternative, "Vladimir Bukovsky."

What is really getting on my nerves with the BBC at the moment, (and leads me to believe that there is a double life going on internally) is on Have Your Say. Where as soon as any comment critical of islam reaches 50+ recommendations it is deleted. Presumably that it the point at which it ceases to be a debate sparking minority view and becomes a challenge to the status quo.

But, knowing politicos, I also know that they have all of the stability of weathervanes.

If the opportunity to make money for their local constituency arises, their spines tend to assume the consistency of aspic.

OPEC members are awash in oil gouging profits at the moment (from the phonied shortages of the recent hurricanes, etc.) and know how to bully, bribe, cajole and coerce.

My instincts say that the EU will weasel out of any momentary show of "courage" and be handing off hundreds of millions of euros to sworn terrorists shortly. By the expediency of funneling it through NGO front groups.

What in the name of God are you trying to say with this? Do you have any idea on what the ordinary European thinks about this whole thing? That the few Europeans you whose comments you might know about, tend to be those that are more radical in their views (namely the ones belonging to the extreme-left?).

Robert was dramatic in his title, but that is part of his job. He is expected to attract atentions to the article he posted. What is worrisome is that I suspect that if he had titled this post with something like "The EU stands by Israel and the US: refuses to fund Hamas unless the group renounces to violence", the usual suspects would have done their part to perfection.

And I don't like it, I really don't. For starters because some of you seem to share that same sense of radical ignorance that Muslims have. We should be the ones with the brains, and frankly, some of you don't have what it takes.

But there is hope. Start by re-reading what is actually reading in the original article. Then compare the position of the EU to the position of the US and Israel. Then - if you still didn't get it - read archduke's, Hugh's and Granny Weatherwax's (and a few others) posts. As it has been so very craven, to describe the BBC's reportage on the Muslim world as "dhimmitude" seems to understate the problem. Isn't there a "BBC Watch" that takes stock of the systemic rot there, not to mention HonestReporting, which focuses on coverage of Israel? Norm Geras of Normblog fame is recommending an article published on-line by Engage member, Shalom Lappin, who is a prof at King's College on the growth of anti-Semitism in the UK. I have only begun reading it myself. Wasn't easy getting past the opening in which Lappin pans the Israeli government for the construction of settlements and the heavy-handed "occupation" without any mention of the history that led to both, but he does demonstrate the hypocracy of the Ken Livingstones who see attacks on Israeli civilians as legitimate reprisals where attacks on any other civilians is wrong.
