More gracious good wishes for Ariel Sharon from the Palestinians. From the Sydney Morning Herald:

Well, dogs don't tend to blow up as many civilians.

Actually dogs were used to blow up people - i.e. by Russians to blow up German tanks during WWII, but let's not put ideas into the madmen's minds.
As a child brought up on Soviet war movies I remember bursting into tears at such scenes. I love dogs and if not anything else this alone renders me immune to conversion.

Anyone who has spent any time watching CBN news and Pat Robertson's commentary knows that he has a better grasp on today's world situation and the menace of islam than the entire "intelligencia" (if you can call it that) at NPR. Yes, his comments on Ariel Sharon were probably ill-advised, but Rev. Pat is our friend, not our enemy.
I trust that if Sharon does succomb, there will be no tears from barbara plett, right?

Every once in a while-- coinciding with WWII anniversaries, I think-- The History Channel runs a set of documentaries on the SS. The last of the set was my introduction to the existence of Muslim SS units.

Wait a minute...I thought Sharon was at least partly responsible for "returning" Gaza to the Palestinians.Should they not then be grateful,rather than hateful?
Sharon is history. For all of Pat Robertson's ranting, Sharon did much for Israel's survival and success. His was not an easy life but he obviously enjoyed a good meal and hearty drink on more than one occasion. Considering where he lives and what he does, that Sharon has lived to be 77 is a miracle.
Pat Robertson was wrong to say what he did about Sharon's stroke coming from God, however if that is true the fact that he is recovering according to his doctors would also be Gods will.
Pat Robertson is a good man, he understands what the enemy is about.
However he really really really should speak to any competent doctor about the likliness a 345 pound 77 year old getting strokes.
I wish Prime Minister Sharon many more happy years of health, and hope the man who will succeed him come the next set of elections Amir Peretz pproves just as good as he did.

WHY IS ARIEL SHARON a "war criminal" ?
It is alleged by the PLO that 2 incidents place him in this category.
1/ Raid by Unit 101 (IDF Special forces) under the unit command of Sharon, on the village of Qibya in the early 50s where around 70 civilians were killed.
2/ Standing by while the Christian Phalangists marauded through Sabra and Shatila Camps.
Lets examine these events.
1/ Qibya Village attack. The evidence suggests that the original order from 'on high' became confused on the way down. Nevertheless, it was very much a kill or be killed atmosphere, and the Israelis were more in a position of desperation rather than calculation.
2/ Sabra and Shatila.
In reality, these were PLO MILITARY CAMPS at which families were also present. Arafat has said clearly, that EVERY palestinian, man woman child is a fighter. We see pictures weekly of Palestinian children with guns.
Phalangists raided these military camps. Fact.
Why ? Perhaps the genocide against them by the PLO earlier in Damour had something to do with it ?

So, assuming the Phalangists had no deliberate intent to kill the women and children, they were justified under Islamic law to do so during those raids.
Of course, killing of non compatants in any war is a horrible act. But when one considers the actual nature of the conflict, it is not hard to see why the Phalangists believed they should weaken the PLO as much as possible, given the atrocity in Damour.
If Sharon is a war criminal, why are they not also stating ARAFAT/PLO are war criminals for the same actions ?

Pat Robertson says foolish things now and then, but he did not say he 'wished God would strike Sharon dead.'
He did venture his opinion that 'God had caused...' based on his (Robertson's) interpretation of a bible passage about separating Israel land.
