1938 Alert: "Blair says West likely to sanction Iran," from AP, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
TEHRAN, Iran - British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Wednesday that Western countries were likely to seek economic sanctions against Iran after Tehran restarted its nuclear program, but a powerful cleric said it would not curtail its research. Iran on Tuesday broke U.N. seals at a uranium enrichment plant and said it was resuming nuclear research after a two-year freeze. Enriched uranium can be used as a fuel for both nuclear energy and nuclear weapons."I think the first thing to do is to secure agreement for a reference to the Security Council, if that is indeed what the allies jointly decide, as I think seems likely," Blair told the House of Commons, adding that he was in close contact with Washington on the issue.
"We obviously don't rule out any measures at all," Blair said when asked about possible sanctions. "It's important Iran recognizes how seriously the international community treats it."In Moscow, the Foreign Ministry said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had discussed the issue with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and both sides shared "a deep disappointment" over Iran's move. White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Tuesday that if Iran continued on its present course, "there is no other choice but to refer the matter to the Security Council," which could impose sanctions.
In Iran's first response to the international outcry, former President Hashemi Rafsanjani said he was "astonished" by the West's attempt to "bully" Iran.
"If they cause any disturbance, they will ultimately regret it," he warned.
Someone certainly will.
This is a bit off-topic, but I think it is a very interesting article about what one French expatriate believes awaits the EU. I found it in the online edition of European Jewish Press.

I'm sure that Rafsanjani will have no problem admitting that 'bullying' is just fine as a practice--as long as it is MUSLIMS who get to do the 'bullying.'
I say let them develop a muke.
And let them use it against the West.
Then, once the horror wears off, the War Against Terroristic Imperialistic Islam can begin for real.
Until something this serious occurs, just as the shock of Pearl Harbor was "necessary" to galvanize America, nothing will change in this damned dithering diplomatic minuet.
The use of an Islamic Bomb will be needed to wake the West.
300,ooo smoldering corpses is a hell of an alarm clock, but I see no other way to arouse the p.c. narcoleptic masses.
Not when the leadership is in either: 1) in the back pocket of Muslim petrodollar pimps; 2) in kumbaya ecumenical denial; or 3) suicidally self-loathing "because of their evil, racist, genocidal colonial past".
I watch mid east news every day on Mosaic (World Link TV) and as expected the Iranians blame their two recent aircraft accidents on America's sanctions, because America won't sell them parts for their planes.
Of course nothing is ever the fault of a Muslim, and despite it's lack of free will and it's Inshallah Fatalism, they still blame everything on Israel and the U.S.
Get a load of this ll Dead (Military top brass)in Iran air crash
That C-130 transport crashed into an apartment building after take off and yet they still blame America for the crash.
Iran is officially headed to the Security Council
Slightly off-topic.
Seen in The National Gallery yet again today my beloved Titian's "An Allegory of Prudence".
The inscripton on the painting states: EX PRAETERITO PRAESENS PRVDENTER AGIT NI FUTUR- ACTIONE DETVRPET [From the past the man of the present acts prudently so as not to imperil the future]. How wise our Masters used to be! How meaningful and relevant it sounds to me today.
