Why do we walk on tippie-toes around Iran? Are we so afraid of "angering" the populace? As if they can do anything about anything anyways. Like Hitler claiming Czech "attacks" on Suedeten Germans in 1938 and decrying Polish "provocations" in 1939, Iran is setting the stage for something in the near future. Israel carried off into captivity by Babylon. Israel conquered by Persia. Israel conquered by Macedonians. Jerusalem destroyed by Romans in 70 AD and again in 135 AD. Jews left stateless for 18+ centuries. Hitler murders 6 million Jews.

With oil prices the way they are now, sanctions on Iran would send them over $100/barrel, which would be too great an economic shock for the wider world to bear.

If the US and Israel conduct limited strikes on Iran's N-facilities, I doubt these will be entirely successful, as Iran has taken great pains to disperse and protect these. Furthermore, anything that doesn't kill the Iranian tiger is only going to enrage it. And Iran has plenty of choice targets to attack on the ground, starting with all the US troops bogged down in Iraq.

Iranian retaliation on oil prices would be painful, and their retaliation through asymmetric warfare would be painful. The Jews are the "chosen" people simply because they are the people God chose to produce the Messiah.
It does not mean they are necessarily any better or moral than the rest of us, although there is evidence to suggest that God stacked the gene pool a bit.

I totally agree with you Rebecca. Taking this to it's extreme - we need solidarity between humankind. White, black, red, yellow or pink with purple polka dots - ethnicity is nothing more than a simple twist of human genetics anyway. Not one human being here has chosen their shape, sex, status or....anything. We were all born by pre-disposition. By saying this, the reason to exclude anyone also begins to erode away social facades. Essentially in this statement, the concept of racial, ethnic and social divides begin to look obsolete. Prejudice, a short minded action. We're all human beings and our common denominator is our sentience and our right to happy lives.

What truly separates us is our vastly disparate ideals. I for one am locked arm in arm with anyone who would hold harmless another human being regardless of their ideological view points. I myself do not believe in any god (or demons, devils, jinns and spookies) but I support all faiths that embrace others regardless of their beliefs. Morality, ethics and strong contemplation of what we cannot see is what world faiths have give humankind. No reason to toss them aside - no matter what.

Jews, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Hindus, Taoists, Buddhists (and Muslims who reject killing for "allah") etc.etc.etc. - one and all no longer seem willing to hold murderous grudges against each other. It seems the true nature of the human spirit exists in our empathic natures.

Seems if you really think about it, Islam is quite outnumbered by the rest of the world. The only thing lacking in such a spiritual coalition is a cohesive goal. We already consider all lives sacred, the next step could be a unified discourse of thought to force the Islamic Umma to cease and desist their conquest and reversion of this world.

This should be an American-led, but NATO effort. Every country in NATO should contribute something, and perhaps especially Germany, for obvious moral reasons, not only practical but symbolic. Hugh, would love to see a NATO strike, but I don't see it happening in time. I think this needs to be a joint US-Israeli operation, but the dumwits in Washington think it's wiser for us to ask Israel to stand down so as not to "inflame the Arab street" and upset the Turks (a NATO member), I guess.

Pythagoras, in my mind you are painting too rosy picture of Christianity. The Sweden-Finland of ca 1600 AD was a Christian police state. Police had a rulebook of how the citizens found guilty of morality crimes were to be mimed. Example: for adultery, the police pushed a thin and sharp nail through your temporal bone so it stiched either eye. As a result, you survived but lost sight in either eye not to mention the screaming headache for the rest of your life.

OK - christianity today is a calm and peaceful religion and above mentioned belongs to the dark past. But the point is that the power of christians simply is not enough to stop islamization; one has to reach out to political left too. Now, you will surely say that to refer to medieval Christianity is a cheap shot; this is not fair.

Well, do you think the left is going to treat you fairly ? When you tell the leftists that look guys and gals, the islamists are lying to you ? If you portray stopping the islamists in such a way that this is a christian effort, then you have a recept for failure. I am not claiming that I have the answers, at least simple ones. In a way or another the Christians/conservatives should offer the left a moderated moral agenda, which somehow leaves the leftists living their lifestyle but simultaneously lays stress on their fertility rate, also the leftists should get at least 2 kids / woman. Which I believe we can argee is the crucial point.

NATO does not have to be deeply involved. But some kind of symbolic involvement would be desirable. It is harder for Iran, after the fact, if what it faces is not merely Little Satan and Big Satan, but the entire civilized world or its major representatives (and if Australia and Japan and other countries wish to allow as how they too "approved this message" that would be helpful too.

The less one or two Infidel countries are forced to go it alone in confrontations, whether military or cultural or economic, with Muslim states (that always act in concert, that always support each other in their relentless campaigns, at every level, and in every way, against the Infidels), the better. For one example, look at Denmark. It is now under every kind of assault, every kind of threat, unless the government changes the laws of Denmark itself, unless it intervenes to publicly punish, the largest newspaper in Denmark. This cannot be allowed. But where is the E.U. outcry? There is none, or rather, the E.U. bureaucracy has spoken out forcefully -- on the side of Muslims. And where is Louise Arbour, worthy successor to Mary Robinson, she of Durham Conference on Racism fame, now aiding and abetting the megalomaniacal Jeffery Sachs at "the World Institute," of the U.N., if not further berating the government, the laws the press, the people, of Denmark?

Solidarity, by other members of NATO, and every country that considers itself part of Europe, should be noisily demonstrated in favor of Denmark. Solidarity with the United States, and with Israel, as they try to deal, for the sake of all Infidels (those Iranian bombs could, potentially, destroy much of Israel's citizenry, a massacre of the Jews for the second time, in the full light of everyone's consciousness and permanent conscience, and would as well destroy all of Jerusalem -- a double blow to the morale of the West from which one wonders how it could possibly recover).

One more thing about NATO. Turkey is a member of NATO. Or is it? Is Turkey willing to stand with NATO against Iran, or does all that talk about secularism, and Turkey's fitness for admission into the E.U., mean nothing? Find out now. Find out what Turkey will or will not do to prevent people who would, if they could, wipe Israel, and at the same time the Holy Land, off the map, what side they are on? It will be telling.

No one liked the Iraq War. No one. However, it is remotely possible that Saddam Hussein would sooner or later have been attempting to do exactly what the Iranian mullahs currently are doing in their game of nuclear chicken with the west. When we wipe out one Islamic trouble spot, another one pops up almost immediately. A Christian woman I know who was born and raised tells me "the Muslims all stick together." I think I agree with her.

What the western world needs to do with Iran right now is detonate an EMP weapon over that country which would wipe out its electronic infrastructure and thus render it incapable of launching a nuclear missile (and with a minimal initial loss of life). In fact, the US should do the same thing with North Korea as well--ASAP!!!!

And for the record, the western world is going to have to go to war with at least several Islzmicized nations over the next two decades or so. Iran is not going to be the last Islamic country to pull a power play like this one.

Why isn't anyone discussing Israel with help from Armenia arming and equipting the Kurds and Azeris on the modell of what Israel did in Iraq?

Armenia is most immediatly threatened by Iran because even without the Nuclear threat Iran is still the largest threat to the existence of Armenia. Armenians want to save Israelis from their insane policy of closing their eyes to Turkish Islamofascism and have close ties with Israel anyway so between Israel and Armenia no persuasion is neccessary to get them to work together, and so Israeli Equiptment, along with Israeli and Armenia soldiers entering Northern Iran through Armenia, arming and training the Kurds and Azeris (I know Kurds and Azeriz hate Armenians, but they are still heavily opressed by th Iranian Government to the point were they are willing to be the ally of anyone who will save them), with support from the IAF (Hey Armenia has airports that the IAF can use for raids against Iran) a great army can be made to simply overthrow the IRI.

It is entirely possible that Israel has already thought of this, so don't be too surprised if in the next months you read about an armed uprising from Iranian Minorities lead by Israel and Armenia, and armed by Israel with air support from the IAF and Armenian Airforce. It would be very nice to see that.
