I am so tired of this "bridge building" crap! It's just another phrase coined by the PC apologist left in an effort to stifle free speech and cover up mistakes of the past. Why is it that the only mistake that the left recognizes is slavery by white Americans? Any other "atrocities" seem irrelevant. That seems to be the only wound that will never heal with them. They're even jumping on the bandwagon of questioning the holocaust now!

Some 200.000-300.000 East Timorees died during the occupation (not "tens of thousands").
As a Portuguese, I probably get a lot more media coverage about East-Timor than any of you. With that in mind, I can safely say that the "bridge-building" with Indonesia is something that is supported by EVERYONE in the leadership of Timor-Lorosae (aka East Timor): from Xanana Gusmão (the president) to Mari Alkatiri (the PM). East Timor is surrounded by Indonesia, of course they want good relations with their neighbour.
Notice however that the East Timorees didn't choose English nor any Indonesian language as their national language: they chose Portuguese, which is a language that will free them both from the Indonesian sphere, as well as the Australian.
They know very well what they are doing, give them some slack.

The East Timorese chose Portuguese as the official language not for reasons you mention. Portuguese is East Timor’s traditional(400 year) colonial language. It is the language of choice for many older Timorese, especially those who did their university training in Lisbon. It is these Timorese who have got the ministerial/administrative positions in the government. They pushed for Portuguese as it would certainly help secure them into the power structure. Younger people, for the most part, don’t speak or see the point of Portuguese. Bahasa Indonesia is the most widely understood language in East Timor. During 25 years of occupation, all schooling and administration was in Bahasa Indonesia, and realistically everyone who speaks more than their indigenous language, speaks it. But while it is a practical solution to East Timor’s language dilemma, it is the language of oppression and many people won’t speak it unless all else fails. Those who support Bahasa Indonesia as an official language are branded as pro-Indonesian.
If I am not mistaken the US dollar is the currency of East Timor after getting rid of the Indonesian Rupiah and the Portuguese Escudo.

I had too have a B&N employee get me a copy of PIG Islam and the Crusades out of the storage area in the back of the store not on the sales floor. When I enquired about this the employee told me that since there arrival they have been kept off the sales floor and sold by customer request only. I expressed my concern being that PIG has (was still) been on the New York Times best seller and should be at the front of the store like all the rest. This is a common trend as many people know.
