New Europe Update: "Spain: Algerian Suicide Bomber Linked to Cell," from AKI, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
Marid, 10 Jan. (AKI) - The recruiters of an Algerian suicide bomber who investigators believe is one of those responsible for an attack in Iraq in 2003 that killed 19 Italians were among 20 people arrested on Monday in Spain on suspicion of enlisting Islamist fighters for Iraq. Spanish and Italian security forces had worked together to provide the forensic evidence linking the late Bellil Belgacem to the 2003 attack on an Italian military barracks in Nasiriya, southern Iraq, Spain's interior minister Jose Antonio Alonso said in a statement. The police sweep - carried out on Tuesday in the Spanish cities of Barcelona, the capital, Madrid, and Lasarte in the Basque region - netted 15 Moroccan, three Spanish, a Turkish, and an Algerian suspect, believed to belong to al-Qaeda linked cells, the interior ministry said.
Sorry to make the first comment here an OT one but this seems the best of the newest threads to post the prosecution opening remarks in the trial of Abu Hamza. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4602054.stm
Unfortunatly prosecuting counsel missed a chance to get some truth out about the Koran
"Mr Perry said the case was "not a trial against Islam", or against its holy book, the Koran, but had been brought but "because of what the defendant said".
"What the prosecution say is that it is quite clear that no religion condones the murder or killing of innocent men, women or children or the dissemination of hatred and bigotry,"
Which I can understand. Prosecting counsel are practical cats who value the bird in the hand over those in the bush. Their practical task is to get Hamza convicted and out of the way. Disseminating the wider truth is something the likes of us can, are, will do. And Hamza may well do that job within his defence.
Spain is an ideal place for Islamic terrorists to hide.
Spaniards are weird people. While they are always ready to attack their traditional Catholic Christianity with passion, they are so naive and tolerant about Islam that they are unable to think anything bad about it, even after the terrorist attacks in Madrid.
Meanwhile, with their gullibility, the Spaniards and their permissive society provide a haven to Islamic terrorists of every color and hue.
To quote Gomer Pyle;
Surprise, surprise ,surprise.
Meanwhile back in the UK after a complaint by a member of the public police investigate the head of the Muslim Council of Britain, Sir Iqbal Sacranie, to consider wherther his recent remarks about homosexuality constituted an offence within the Public Order Act.

Granny W - that's fair enough, since they investigated Kilroy Silk. In my opinion people should be allowed to condemn homosexuality, and to condemn a religion that condemns it. But at least this treatment is even handed. Too often Muslims have got away with making comments that Christians would not have got away with.
Interested, Granny - I have listened to the replay of the interview on BBC4 this evening. The host reminded the listeners of a similar case where a Christian fundamentalist made critical remarks about homosexuals and was prosecuted for saying this. It is good that there is a precedence (which does not necessarily imply that I agree with the limit on freedom of speech) concerning a Christian - or else we could already hear an outcry about persecuting and discriminating Muslims. I will be following this case closely! Would it not be a great gift for all the infidels on the occasion of the Holocaust Day to have this vile Sacranie ...behind the bars or ...at least splashed all over the gutter press (which can be very cruel in this country)?
The limits of my tolerance towards stupidity become tightly stretched though then when I read this manifesto: "Mr Tatchell, the founder of OutRage!, added: "Both the Muslim and gay communities suffer prejudice and discrimination. We should stand together to fight Islamophobia and homophobia."
"Would it not be a great gift for all the infidels on the occasion of the Holocaust Day to have this vile Sacranie ...behind the bars or ...at least splashed all over the gutter press (which can be very cruel in this country)?"
Wouldn't it just. I have not had the courtesy of a reply from the MCB to my (very courteous) letter to them on the subject.
Meanwhile Hooko Hamza's trial has just become a thread in it's own right up top.
Watch this space.
Islam conquered Spain (Al-Andalus) fair and square during the Muslim 'Crescades' (their ealier version of the later response to it currently villified as the "Crusades").
Now they just want it back.
If the Spaniards don't like it they can die, or 'revert' to the true faith of Islam, or- if "People of the Book" {Jews/Christians] accept their second-class slavery (dhimmitude) as Islam ascends, and be good little Iberian serfs.
And sing the theme song of the upcoming Restored Caliphate:
Ma-ma-ma-my Shari'ah!
"Spain is an ideal place for Islamic terrorists to hide."
"20 people arrested on Monday in Spain on suspicion of enlisting Islamist fighters for Iraq"
Yes it seems so.
"Spaniards are weird people. While they are always ready to attack their traditional Catholic Christianity with passion, they are so naive and tolerant about Islam that they are unable to think anything bad about it, even after the terrorist attacks in Madrid."
The Spaniards have already experencied the terrorim of Basque separatists, and learned to not criminalize an entire people for the crimes of a few.
And stop spouting these idiocies about the Crusades being an answer to the Islamic invasions in Europe. Europeans didn't need this pretext to crusade, and the crusades had no comparison with the previous Islamic invasions in terms of atrocities committed.
Spaniards are weird people. While they are always ready to attack their traditional Catholic Christianity with passion, they are so naive and tolerant about Islam...
The Spanish have demonstrated considerable skill at losing to Moslems. 500 years of hard work has paid off in the breed. I for one was impressed when they went yellow and rolled after the train bombings. We all can learn from them.

It is easy to point the finger at Spain or any other country that borders the glorious Dar al Islam, but I can tell you from the South Eastern European perspective, it is difficult to fight with such hordes as can be mustered in Mohammedan lands. Today the Spaniards, like many Europeans are so naive because they do not see the possibility of invasion due to Pax Americana. They foolishly believe they will fall into the good graces of Islam because they withdrew troops from Iraq, publicly criticize Bush (for show) and pretend to be "welcoming" to the barbarians. They do not see the barbarians plotting agaisnt them in their midst. The French might awaken soon from their self induced mental coma given the circumstances. I hope the Spanish will too. O Gaul and Iberia, awaken from your slumber!
