Man jailed for plot to kill Iraq war hero

Another British-born jihadist. From The Guardian, with thanks to D. C. Watson:

A market stall holder who plotted to "hunt down" and kill a decorated British soldier was jailed for six years today.

British-born Abu Mansha, 21, obtained an address for Corporal Mark Byles after reading coverage in the Sun newspaper of how he led a bayonet charge in which he killed up to 20 Iraqi insurgents.

When Mansha's flat in Thamesmead, south east London, was searched by Special Branch in March last year they found a blank-firing gun in the process of being converted to shoot live rounds.

There was also a scrap of paper with the name of Cpl Byles and the word "hero", as well as a "horrific" collection of DVDs showing Osama bin Laden and the beheading of British hostage Ken Bigley.

Only six years....what a shame. However,it's plenty long enough for him to indoctrinate some other mindless cretins who reside in jails.

I would have liked to know how he intended to assault an ex-soldier with that sort of record. My guess is that he would go with at least twenty mates and try to take him while asleep. But more likely, he just masturbated with the thought of assaulting him, but would never have had the courage.

I tried to submit the Times story last night but lost the connection, then forgot. The Times says much the same thing, with some better photos.

By doing so, Mansha hoped "British soldiers in particular and the British public in general might be intimidated and the radical Islamic cause might be advanced."

There are a couple of interesting trials on at the moment. If guilty verdicts are returned I have some comments which I think may be relevant.

That was why his sentence was relatively lenient, he was considered to be, shall we say, not the sharpest tool in the box.

OT~ news of the US southern border.

Fake Passport Ring With Terror Ties Busted
By JOSHUA GOODMAN
ASSOCIATED PRESS

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) -

Colombian has dismantled a false passport ring with links to al-Qaida and Hamas militants, the acting attorney general said Thursday after authorities led dozens of simultaneous raids across five cities in collaboration with U.S. officials.

In Washington, however, Justice and Homeland Security officials were surprised by the announcement of the investigation, which they said involved people posing as members of Colombia's largest rebel army, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC - not al-Qaida or Hamas.

Colombian officials said the gang allegedly supplied an unknown number of citizens from Pakistan, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt and other countries with false passports and Colombian nationality without them ever setting foot in the country.

An undisclosed number of those arrested are wanted for working with the al-Qaida terror network and the militant Palestinian group Hamas, said acting Attorney General Jorge Armando Otalora.

The counterfeit Colombian, Spanish, Portugese and German passports were used to enter the United States and Europe, he said.

But Justice Department spokesman Bryan Sierra said an indictment unsealed Wednesday in Miami charges 10 foreign nationals with smuggling "people that they thought were members of FARC into the United States."

"We are not alleging any connections to any terror organization other than the FARC," said Justice Department spokesman Bryan Sierra.

He said the U.S. will seek to extradite the 10 alleged smugglers, of whom eight have been arrested.

"The operation was, in fact, a sting operation led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement," he said, adding that Colombian law enforcement were "an active and critical part" of the investigation

The Colombian attorney general's office said 19 people were arrested in Thursday's raids, adding they were carried out in collaboration with U.S. authorities.

Four Jordanian citizens were among those arrested, Manuel Saenz, head of foreign immigration for the DAS secret police, said on Caracol television. Eight people are being sought inside the United States for extradition to Colombia, Otalora said.

Colombian authorities began to covertly trail and film suspects to unveil a criminal network with the help of their U.S. counterparts.

The eight wanted by federal authorities in Florida on charges of abetting illegal immigration rings and collaborating with terrorist groups include a Jordanian national and a DAS detective, Colombian authorities said.

Colombian officials didn't say if they believed any Colombian terrorist groups were involved in the scheme.

U.S. officials have long feared al-Qaida could take advantage of corrupt government officials and weak institutions to launch an attack from south of the border.

GW sharpest tool or not he is still capable of killing someone and should have been given 20 years or so in a Muslim inmate only prison.

This sort of fool is bread and butter for the jihad. Who cares if a fallen woman, a blunt tool, an immature adolescent, or a psychiatrically disturbed person kills in the name of islam? So long as he kills and if he dies in the process? Well we have another "marty" and his family get 15k and can boast about it at the next election. It is almost like bragging about having a STD like HIV infection or syphilis.

The only good thing about a low IQ jihadic attack is that it is not likely to be a bomb as apparently some intellect is required. Maybe setting fire to a shoe or stabbing a hostess with a plastic paper knife is more in his line.

Is there any limit to these ratbags? It would appear that if you kick evey islamic garbage can these creatures pop up then run back into the dark.

Putting these cockroaches in a mixed prison is a recipe for disaster but then we are depending here upon politicians making sensible but hard decisions and in the age of PC, political testicles are few and far between.

It is beyond the pale that a citizen who bravely fights, survives, and comes home, may face the ENEMY in his own home country!!! They shouldn't be here!

Pity he's British born and can't be stripped of citizenship and deported to an Arab paradise.

Waging war on any of Her Majesty's armed forces is the same as waging war on the Crown. This traitor and his family must be deported. Period. Instead, I bet his family of a dozen or more, are safely drawing on their weekly jizya

Britain is not the USA or any European republic. The Crown has the right to remove Her Majesty's protection from any of her subjects - the only small matter is EU citizenship. However, Britain has special EU provisions if there are any matters involving a threat to the security of the realm. As we all know, "security of the realm" can be stretched to include almost anything ie if the government desires it.

Stinky is right. The standard of hygeine in Pakistani or Bangladeshi restuarants, is deplorable to say the least. But then, what can you expect.

"A market stall holder who plotted to "hunt down" and kill a decorated British soldier was jailed for six years today."

Yet another "moderate" muslim. they're just all over the place, aren't they?

Granny, I'm eager to hear your comments. I'm also really angry about this whole mess. He has a stall on Petticoat Lane. My relatives all started there when they arrived in the UK, and the first time I visited it was still a really interesting place to go. Five years or so later and my second visit, it was just awful - really dirty, quite a frightening area, actually, and it was already a place where I could no longer speak or understand the language being spoken - Yiddish certainly wasn't the language on the street any longer.

I'm going to England in March, and I'm sad that it won't be the same place I visited, my children will not get to see that. We won't be going to the lane, and there are a lot of places in London which no longer sound friendly and inviting.

What does it take for someone to be tried for treason anymore?

"What does it take for someone to be tried for treason anymore?"

A lot more than it takes to be tried for Blasphemy, it would seem.

Pity he's British born and can't be stripped of citizenship and deported to an Arab paradise.

Why not? The notion of stripping somebody of his citizenship and exiling him or her to the nearest Moslem nation is a bridge we must cross.

Sooner or later, we must look at sending millions such people away. Massive flotillas of self-guided boats to land on the shores of Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Somalia, Iran, Sweden, and other Islamic republics, whether de jure or de facto.

That is, unless we plan to concede to the Sharia.

Was it muzzies that commited that heinous act?

Hi Libbysmom
I am interested to hear that your family also spent time in the East End.
I have not been down the Lane since my dad died, 20 years ago. His Dad and younger brother had stalls there for a period before I was born; my other grandad had a fruit and flowers stall in Hoxton market, if you know it? I don't know if Abu Mansha's stall was in Petticoat Lane; he lived in South London so it could have been a market over that side of the river. And he may not have been a regular, or particularly successful.
That particular area of the East End is no longer "home" as most of us have moved out into the 'burbs and beyond.
If you are interested when you visit London the main Jewish community from the East End is now in and around Gants Hill in Ilford. One half of Ilford is Jewish, the other half Pakistani and there used to be 2/3 streets of student housing as a buffer between the two communities. Gants Hill retains a flavour of the old area with the shops and delicatesans and a smattering of Yiddish spoken by older people.

So far as the offence is concerned I got the impression (maybe wrongly)that the sentence was lenient because his low intelligence went beyond dimness into the area of disability. Whatever his abilities it shows that the army and media should return to the discretion they used to show during the Irish troubles to protect soldiers identities. My family know people serving in the sandpit, we want their homes to be safe.

Isn't this a terroristic act?

6 years is all the Brits consider justice?

The tune of this law will change after someone dies.

People always like to wait until its too late before they respond seriously.

It should have been treason and terrorism and he should have gotten life.

Enough is f*cking enough!

The Brits should treat Abu Mansha to their most devious home grown adult torture - teletubbies 24-7 - big screen and surround sound. He will be reduced to a blubbering vegetable.
