He holds a handful of booklets in the air, offering them to the busy pedestrians flooding the steps to the tube station. No one takes one. "All your questions answered!" he tries again, thanking someone gratefully as they agree to take a leaflet. "We're here every Friday - come and talk to us!"...
In response to the wave of misunderstandings and misconceptions that many British Muslims feel that they are facing, a group of young people decided that the time had come to challenge the general public's popular notions of the nature of Islam by taking to the streets. The "Discover Islam" brochure they give out, produced by the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, seeks to outline, in a simple, logical fashion, the Islamic belief system, thus making the religion accessible to a wider, non-Islamic audience.
"It's difficult," says one of the young men distributing the leaflets at the stand, who preferred not to be named. "There's a lot of fear and a lot of misunderstandings. Lots of people just don't want to know at all. Some people think that all Muslims are terrorists, and that we're really a front for something more sinister. But we persevere, and every single non-Muslim we reach is a victory for us."
Would that they put all that energy into reaching Muslims.
That is one of the problems with Islam. The moderates are not reigning in the extremists and appear unwiling to do so. If a Christian bombs an abortion clinic, he/she is going to jail. To say that Islam is peaceful is to contradict its anti-Western history and its culture.
With provocation like that, can anyone blame Muslims for getting angry?
It's slightly offtopic, but the problem of so-called moderate Islam in the West is not their PR, but their tribal and/or rural traditions. If they let go of their tribal and rural traditions, they would be accepted by the common folk in a decade.
They have to be something like us, 2 children, a nice car, a decent job and a clean house. That will make an infinite more impression than some leaflets handed over on the streets of a bombed city.

And that is an even more dangerous outcome. I never said that the Koran isn't a problem. The teachings of the Koran is the cause of huge amounts of bloodshed (in the past, in the present and in the future). But one shouldn't blame only that single fact for all the problems that islam and muslims are causing. It's broader, much, much broader.

The "moderate" Muslims who try to sell the proposition that Islam is really a religion of peace have, it seems to me, two big PR problems:
(1) the Koran & Hadiths have been translated into Western Languages, notably English, and
(2) Many people in the West can read!
I can't imagine what they can do about this.

The actions of the founder of Islam are violent.
The actions he taught his followers to do and what they did was violent.
The actions throughout history of Muslims are aggressive violence.

Mainstream Islam is terrorist. Its the radicals that are peaceful. Its in the Koran, how to conduct a terror campaign and decieve the non-believers.

Was just thinking about the links concerning wamy, which I just posted above. The Middle East Forum article isn't all bad, but it occurs to me that it suggests a misleading distinction between wahhabism/muslimbrotherhood and the rest of islam. As if the problem is (are) the intolerant saudis and their version of islam, while other truly tolerant versions exist as well. The real problem on the globe is that the "truly tolerant" versions of islam are a figment of propaganda and imagination.

If Muslims emphatically repudiated Jihad and the violence mandated in the Koran as well as the bad acts of Mohammed, non-Muslims would believe that they are neither terrorists or sympathizers and, perhaps, enablers. Silence is de facto approval.

Last night I met a very nice man who was originally from Iran but has been in the United States for several decades. He engaged my friends and me in conversation and he stated that he didn't understand why people in the world fight so much and why we couldn't all get along. My friends and I responded that it is because of our human nature, and then corrected it and said our fallen human nature. He understood that. He said that Iran is a most beautiful place and that the people there are so kind. He also said that the students in the 1500 universities in Iran are not happy with the government and that he thinks they will eventually change it. His attitude was that it would all work out. I asked him he was a Muslim and he said no, he had been brought up in the B'nai faith, but that he thought organized religion caused problems. I thought to myself, no, not all organized religions.
I then asked him, very seriously, if he thought that Sharia could exist side by side with Democracy. He thought for a moment, looked me straight in the eyes and said, no. And I thought to myself, that's why we fight so much and can't get along.

All it requires is one group of Muslims killing us in the name of Islam, and another group of Muslims striving with might and main that to promote Islam as a religion of peace: a claim directly mainly outward at non-Muslims).
This pleasant-sounding propaganda about beautiful Islam, which avoids quoting whole verses and neglects to mention that "good verses" do not apply to non-Muslims* (or else are abrogated according to mainstream Islamic scholars), is a significant weapon in the Islamists' arsenal. They know that the decisions of democratic governments depend (to some extent) on the majority of popular opinion. What better way to hand-cuff the infidels than prevent them from being able to identify correctly the enemies?

As the article and posters above point out, these so-called moderate Muslims are directing their propaganda to mostly non-Muslims and not the Muslims. We need to show the general public just how disgusting and insulting these claims about peaceful Islam are to the victims of Islamic terror, tyranny, and oppression.
