Muslims set fire to church under construction in Egypt, injure 12

How dare those dhimmis try to build a new church! Don't they know that is forbidden?

Misunderstanders of Islam attack again in Egypt. If only they would listen to all those who are ready to tell us here at Jihad Watch that Islam is peaceful and tolerant, and that it is we who are stirring up hate by reporting on the misdeeds of its legions of misunderstanders. But how passing strange it is that in Egypt, with so many millions of Muslims, misunderstanding of Islam would be so widespread! Has anyone addressed this strange global collapse of Muslims' ability to teach their religion properly to their children??

"Egyptian church clash injures 12," from the BBC, with thanks to Null:

At least 12 people were injured in clashes in Upper Egypt when a group of Muslims attempted to stop Christians converting a house into a church.

Security officials said the Muslims set fire to building materials for the building in Odaysat, near Luxor.

Several members of both communities were reported injured in the subsequent clashes, as well as two policemen.

It is the latest in a series of violent sectarian incidents in Egypt in the past few months.

A security source quoted by Reuters said the Christians did not have official permission to build the church.

Oh, well then! Their papers are not in order? Kill them!

Police arrested 10 young men and the owners of the house, reports say.

Correspondents say curbs on building churches have been one of the main grievances among Copts, although these restrictions have been eased recently by presidential decree.

Yes, and you can see how respected that decree is.

Curbs on building churches was focused in Mubarak's hands. To polish his image before the west, he delegated curbs to state governors, who can't sneeze without the permission of the president!

A security source quoted by Reuters said the Christians did not have official permission to build the church.

Official permission in a muslim nation is hardly ever granted to buid a church.

What do you expect from savages?

Egyptian authorities are pathetic!! to comment on an international news agency saying "the Christians did not have official permission to build the church." as if that excuses what happened?!?!
Then, instead of going after the hooligans who decided to take the "law" into their own hands, they arrested the owner of the house!!

Never mind the pc BBC headline "Egyptian church clash injures 12" - normally they just blank out the "religion" of the perpetrators but not this time. Must be a one-off.

"Misunderstanders of Islam attack again in Egypt."

Islam? Obviously this is just a minor infraction of Egypt's zoning ordinances.

Surprised the BBC even used the M word!
Would have expected something like
"Christians contribute to the Cycle of violence by building a church or by defending themselves".

The Egyptian government restricts the building of churches; sometimes it takes over 20 years to get a presidential permit to build a new church. A recent presidential decree delegated local authorities to issue permits of renovating churches yet the decree failed to address the issue of building new churches in many locations throughout the country where Christians are deprived from their right of worship in a church.

According to the statistics published by the Egyptian Census Department in the "Al Osboa newspaper", there are 1950 churches in Egypt (for an estimated 10-12 million Coptic Christians of different denominations , i.e. a church for every 6153 Christians) and 920611 mosques, i.e. a mosque for every 67 Muslims.

Muslims have been destroying churches in Egypt for over a thousand years. Egypt was largely a Christian nation before the Arabian Muslims conquered the land and forced conversions. Egypt has a very ancient Christian tradition that is very beautiful and unique. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph lived in Egypt for a while.

Sadly, the Muslims in Egypt are still very cruel to Christians.

Its high time the US Government stops paying the 2 billion US dollars per year to support these Evil savages. The West should put a moratorium on mosques; so that the savages cannot build any more mosques in our lands. There is no religious freedom in any muslim majority country. Why do we support these savages by giving away our tax dollars.

The U.S. pays the Egyptians two billion dollars a year, mostly so it doesn't attack Israel. It helps that Mubarak, a former Air Force officer, was helped along through his association with the U.S. military, which trained him.

Nevertheless, we are buying peace. Now, the way to capitalize on this cynical deal, by using the existing money pipeline, is for my fellow Texan, Mr. Bush, to get behind a "faith based initiative" and pay Egypt an extra 50 million dollars per year for "cultural and educational" aid, or, well, actually, for the establishment of Christian churches in Egypt.

Don't laugh. This could be done easily through the Agency for International Development. This agency is the usual conduit for money to buy industrial equipment, foodstocks, machine guns, and other important items for third-world countries, while at the same time lining the pockets of U.S. Exporters. The foreign aid is never actually transferred to Egypt!!

The money is credited to a "facility" or "account" in the United States. Everything (well, the important stuff) is then handled by the commercial attaches at the respective embassies. Egypt designates a commercial cut-out (a private corporation) to draft the account for payment of its purchase orders (which have to be approved at the embassy and/or the local consulate) for building materials (pews, building stone, fork-lifts, gypsum board) purchased from U.S. firms. If payment is not made in advance, the export financing is by letter-of-credit (which could be written by a French or Jordanian bank to keep the French or Jordanians quiet, for example) and guaranteed by the Export-Import bank of the United States.

The commercial cut-out is used in-country to disguise the purpose of the funds, and pay off the local politicians with "commissions" on the sales of the materials to the construction companies, who might be of any nationality. It is illegal for a U.S. company to pay bribes to foreign officials (note: the law does not prohibit bribes to clerks, however).

The trick is to have one or more prominent Egyptians (here it is helpful for the president or a crony to have an extended family) to own a significant or majority interest in the commericial cut-out. That way it is a "friend of the leader" who can command the locals to leave the project alone, and a local who is damaged if the workers riot anyway and burn the work-in-progress. Of course, the project can be insured, but that defeats the ultimate goal of the aid in the first place. Insurance after completion should be through a local company, paid for as part of the U.S. continuing committment to "our brave ally." Reinsurance through an out-of-country reinsurer could be prohibited in the aid package (or required to be placed in a third country, to put that country's firm at risk--and there are many possibilities for fun here). If the terms are violated, it would void the rest of the package or at least delay consideration of renewal.

When all is said and done: The American suppliers get paid in cash. The export firms are paid for business they would not have received otherwise. The State Department has something to manage and thereby justify an increased budget in the next cycle. The Eqyptians have a jobs program in the construction trades. The Egyptian president has relatives or friends who benefit from his patronage, and he from their continued loyalty. The Egyptian economy benefits from the building boom. The workers are quiet because un-employment is down, even if only in their own few families. And the banks are happy because they have the extra float.

Oh, and the Christians get their churches.

If anybody from State is hanging around out there, here is a chance to make a quality career decision. Pass this up the chain.

Its actually worse guys
the building attacked is in fact a church which was built in the 1960's. Coptic community hasn't been able to pray in that church since...because the government keeps stalling issuing the permit.

Now one person is dead.

Just when i thought it couldn't get worse...
the police was present in the village at the time of the attacks...they exlpicitly told the priest "we're not here to protect you...we're here to make sure you don't pray in there"

Have_merci states-"One Church for every 6130 Goptic Cristians living in Egypt".
We in Europe and America, sell away Churches,as we feel we have become 'more civilised'and 'more intelligent' to attend churches. So many Churches are empty on Sundays.Well, God lets us to do our own wickedness as He he allowed Sodom and gomera People. A time will come , when we will be forced to go to Mosques ,whether you like it or not,and when we have to gather secretly in Undergrounds to conduct our Church services. Then only we will realise the value of Churches, we have sold to be converted into Mosques, Hare Rama Hare Krishna temples, and so on. Yes,our God is 'slow' to anger-but He is not without anger. Just imagine these true Christians, who suffer all persecutions, and still going strong in their faith, with out a place to worship. I have seen their sufferings in MIddle East,Pakistan(where recently they burnt down four Salvation Army churches) in Indonesia, and in India,to name a few countries.
Let us atlesat support our brothers in these countries. Please go to the site'persecuted christians'to see the plight of these people.

So much for Islam as a religion of tolerance. When was the last time a mosque burned to the ground here in America? Come on, Naseem. Answer me. Where is this "peace", you Islamics are always talking about? Us Christians are infidel dogs, pigs, and monkeys, according to your religion!!! You'd think that it'd be us "Christians" burning up things, killing Muslims, burning down mosques. But it's not us Christians attacking Muslims, it's Muslims attacking Christians. Burning down Christian churches. From Egypt to Turkey to Pakistan to Indonesia. And you expect us to convert to this?
You really think that we want this? No thank you.
With the love of Islam, who needs hate?

Texan thinks that the 2 million bucks that Uncle Sam pays to Egypt yearly is meant to keep them from attacking Israel. That's an opinion. What the money can do is to help mubarak build up his armed forces. And then attack Israel in the future with an army improved over last time.
Texan is right about how the $$$ gets spread around and the insiders get their cut. But that's not only in Egypt. Bibi Netanyahu told the US congress almost 10 years ago that he wanted to stop US foreign aid to Israel. It would have been great if it had happened. But I don't think that the Clinton White House of State Dept or CIA wanted to stop giving money. That is because money buys influence or is meant to. Anyhow, if Egypt gets all that money from the USA and the Copts are still oppressed and discriminated against there, then that means that State and CIA and White House [Bush sr, Clinton, Bush jr, Jiminy Cricket] don't really care what happens to the Copts. They probably consider them an annoyance. Their very presence, their very presentation of complaints about Egypt, spoils the usual media line that everything's OK in the Arab world, except for what can be blamed on Israel [rightly or wrongly]. Actually, Prof. Walid Phares complained that the oppression of Copts in Egypt became aggravated AFTER the Camp David accords between PM Begin and Sadat in 1978. So that means that so-called "Middle East peacemaking" increases the oppression of Copts [and no doubt other non-Arabs or non-Muslims], besides getting a lot of people killed. The terrorism against Israel increased exponentially after the Oslo accords. So for the sake of peace, stop the peace process!! Stop foreign aid!! Stop peace diplomacy and peace efforts!!!!!
