A Norwegian article in Aftenposten (thanks to cskaug) reports that Osama bin Laden's speeches are to be published in Norwegian by the publisher LSP Forlag.
The most important part of the story is that a Norwegian NGO called the Freedom of Expression Fund has decided to support the publication by paying the 40000 Norwegian kroner (about 5000 euro) necessary for the translation of bin Laden's speeches.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian translation of Oriana Fallaci's latest book -- Oriana Fallaci Interviews Herself with the epilogue "The Apocalypse," which has been available for a year -- remains unpublished in Norway, even though her two previous books about Islam and the West sold in large numbers there.

FOMI, a Norwegian anti-Islamic website, was just charged with "racism and spreading Islamophobia" for translating an article from Frontpage Magazine, with comments, about a Muslim rape wave in the West. Mullah Krekar, the former leader of Islamic terror group Ansar al-Islam, still lives in Norway, courtesy of Norwegian infidel tax payers, even though he has pretty much openly threatened the country with terror attacks and has called Osama bin Laden "the jewel of Islam." He has written a book about himself, which was published by a man called William Nygaard, who was shot and almost killed in the early 90s for having published the Norwegian translation of Salman Rushdie's book "The Satanic Verses." The "Free Speech" establishment in the land of the Nobel Peace Prize, who like to champion "political dissidents" in other countries, ban them in their own country. They spend money on promoting self-proclaimed enemies of democracy, but silence people who write about documented cases of racism against their own, native population.

The Norwegian Government - Covering Up Immigrant Rapes
Two out of three charged with rape in Norway's capital are immigrants with a non-western background according to a police study. The number of rape cases is also rising steadily.The study is the first where the crime statistics have been analyzed according to ethnic origin. Rape charges in the capital are spiraling upwards, 40 percent higher from 1999 to 2000 and up 13 percent so far this year. Police Inspector Gunnar Larsen of Oslo's Vice, Robbery and Violent crime division says the statistics are surprising - the rising number of rape cases and the link to ethnic background are both clear trends. But Larsen does not want to speculate on the reasons behind the worrying developments. While 65 percent of those charged with rape are classed as coming from a non-western background, this segment makes up only 14.3 percent of Oslo's population. Norwegian women were the victims in 80 percent of the cases, with 20 percent being women of foreign background.
The numbers published in September 2001 were discussed in at least to out of Norway's three largest newspapers: Aftenposten and Dagbladet. A leading member of the Liberal Party (Venstre), Odd Einar Dørum, demanded all the numbers be put on the table: "A scumbag is a scumbag, regardless of skin color".
Four years later, Dørum is Minister of Justice, and nobody has seen these statistics since 2001. The number of rape charges in Oslo have continued to rise, reaching record levels in 2004. There is ample evidence of brutal gang rapes, something that used to be rare in Scandinavia, being committed by immigrants against native girls. For instance, 21st of July, three men were charged with gang raping a 15-year-old Norwegian girl, who was dragged into a car while waiting for a bus at the bus station in the town of Fredrikstad. All the men were of "foreign origin". Such cases have become almost routine. The only possible explanation for why we are no longer presented statistics showing the percentage of immigrants involved in this is that the government is covering it up. Usually, this would have made the media demand that the Minister of Justice should resign. This has not happened, although I know several journalists have been reading the posts I have made about this topic, both in English and in Norwegian. To make matters worse, while Norwegian women are increasingly unsafe in their own capital, we hear calls for even more immigration, and 85 % of our MPs pass a law saying that we are guilty of discriminating against immigrants until proven otherwise.

Stortinget, the Norwegian parliament, in April 2005 passed a new Discrimination Act. The act says in pretty clear words that in cases of suspected direct or indirect discrimination due to religion or ethnicity, Norwegians are guilty until proven otherwise. The act was passed with the approval of all parties in parliament, more than 80 % of MPs, with the sole exception of the right-wing Progress Party. Immigration spokesman for the Progress Party, Per Sandberg, is deeply disappointed and fears the consequences of the new legislation. "This law will jeopardize the rights of ordinary, law-abiding Norwegian citizens. The principle of reverse burden of proof means that Norwegians are guilty of discrimination unless they can prove otherwise. It will lead to many convictions of innocent people. Reverse burden of proof is also combined with liability to pay compensation, which means that innocent persons risk having to pay huge sums for things they didn't do."
"Anti-racist" organizations are given a significant role in the new law. There is a new, state-sponsored Equality Ombudsman who will be responsible for enforcing it, and coerce all employers who refuse to abide by it. A multicultural Inquisition, in other words. Cabinet minister Erna Solberg, who has earlier called for the establishment of a sharia council in Norway, proposed the new act. It will cover everything from the workplace to the housing market. In a recent case, a local furniture store wouldn't allow a female employee to wear a head scarf, arguing that it violated the store's dress code. Solberg’s proposal will toughen the law, and also require those charged to mount proof of their innocence.
Dr. Ole Jørgen Anfindsen, editor, HonestThinking.org, believes that Norwegian authorities have cheated with prognoses for the number of immigrants. According to his numbers, ethnic Norwegians will become a minority in their own country before 2050 if the current trends continue. The number of Muslims in Norway over 15 years has quadrupled, meaning an annual growth of more than 9%. Native Norwegians are quietly moving out of the immigrant ghettos in inner-city Oslo in large numbers. Tensions with immigrants have spread even to smaller towns. The trend is identical to what can be seen in neighboring Sweden, where several cities are now on the verge of collapse. Norway has already experienced what seems to have been an attempted Islamic terror attack. At the same time, there is new legislation proposed against "discriminating" statements made about specific groups, even on Internet discussion forums and websites. Which means that Norwegians can't say too much about Muslim immigrants destroying the country, because that is racism and thus illegal. At a time when the multicultural ideology is increasingly seen as a mistake in many countries, the authorities here respond by making it the official state ideology and banning all opposition. As younger man in New York I helped push out drug gangs from my neighborhood, all though we had the help of Mayor Gulliani, and the police, on the ground we had difficulty getting our message out because people were afraid and the drug thugs were censoring our free speech.
We used an anonymous newspaper, street posters. telephone calls and mailings to ridicule as expose those that were supporting the drug trade. We put the spot light on those that were supporting the criminals, but weren't criminals themselves.
It takes nothing to print a newspaper in a basement, or only seconds to put up posters, we did it in the middle of the night, or make anonymous phone calls. None of the our work had an official name so the drug snoops couldn't identify who was doing this.
Thousands of people walk around with flyers in there briefcases and when no one was looking would hand them out to people on the train.
These hate laws can be made irrelevant if you do it clandestinely and stay one step ahead of the Dihimmi Norwegian authorities.

Why not? Why must those brave enough to testify receive no aid or support from the American government? Why are they virtually persona non-grata? Why have they not been asked to visit Congress, to testify before Congress, to visit the Pentagon and explain their views on how to divide and demoralize the forces of Jihad? Does Ali Sina have nothing of value to tell not only Tom Tancredo, but Secretary Rumsfeld? Why should he not meet, in secret if necessary (but why not let it out that ex-Muslims are touring in Washington, making the rounds, explaining from within, what goes on in the world of Islam, what Muslims know but do not tell Infidels, in other words -- why not treat them with the same solicitousness, and listen with the same deep interest, as defectors from the Soviet Union were listened to?
And where are the magazines, or for that matter the websites already in existence, that are receiving government support or quasi-government support? Why such delicacy, why such fear of offending CAIR and others who do not wish us well. There is nothing at this website, outside of the unmoderated postings, that could conceivably be presented, to the fair-minded, as "hate speech" and CAIR knows it. In fact, the amount of detailed reference to specific passages in Qur'an, stories in the Hadith, and details of Muhammad's life, all well-known to the members of CAIR and other Muslims, is one of the most useful and attractive features of commentary here, as is the level of specific detail about what is going on in Bangladesh, or Norway, or Malaysia, or Indonesia. or France, or all sorts of places where Muslim behavior, demands, and varied instruments of Jihad, can all be seen, and are here gathered in one place.
Oriana Fallaci's books, like those of a half-dozen others, should be translated into all of the major languages. Why has not the American government chosen to find the best translators and set them to work to translate, for example, Ibn Warraq's "Why I Am Not a Muslim" into Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, and other relevant languages of Muslims, and into Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and into all the languages of Europe, given that it is intended for an audience of both Muslims and non-Muslims? And if the government cannot do it, why has not even one of the thousands and thousands of private foundations not, in some circuitious and self-protecting way, managed to arrange for such funding? A war has been underway -- actually, has always been underway, but was hidden from view for a long time because the Infidel world was focussed on the wars within their own world (the Cold War, and the preceding wars), while the Muslims themselves were too weak to conduct Jihad, until the OPEC trillions, and the new technnology to distribute the full message of Islam, and the millions of Muslims allowed, through criminal negligence of various governments, to settle behind what they, the Muslims, have been taught to regard as enemy lines, changed all that, gave new life to the Jihad, new possiblities for its conduct, and embers flared up into a fire, now a bonfire, and if not quickly tended to by all the firemen in all the Infidel world, could become a forest fire, and then an unstoppable conflagration.

Hugh, as so often, you are writing from memory and getting a few things wrong. It was not, alas, Alberto Moravia who collaborated to THE GOD THAT FAILED; it was Ignazio Silone. Moravia remained a zealous member of the Communist Party till the day he died, though one has to admit that by then our Communists were managed by that lovely man Enrico Berlinguer and were, in everything but name, a social democrat Western party. What is worse, Silone turned out recently to have collaborated with the Fascist secret services during the black years, so his name is tarnished.
This shows where the danger is greatest. It is not, as everyone was insisting, in France; France will only tolerate so much before she hits back, and when she hits back, she does so ruthlessly (ask anyone who has ever been in the way of a French police charge). Italy, confused, sentimental and seized by stupid anti-Americanism, has nevertheless a basic sense of right and wrong that led even raging anti-Americans to openly show support for Israel after Ahmedinajad's threatening speeches. Spain will sooner or later wake up from its lunatic interlude under the heir of the priest-killers of old. England, obstinate to the last in defending errors, will, as she has always done, wake up at the last minute before the catastrophe. And I would say that Germany has enough stores of commonsense - in spite of its inherited and not unjustified sense of guilt and its distrust of itself - to realize when things are seriously wrong and destructive. No, the countries that are really at risk are those that are too small and rich for their own good, whose very insignificance on the world stage leads their politicians to treat their offices not as a job but as a place to posture and prate and show off their moral superiority; that have an inherited superiority complex that must always be shown by treating the rest of the West with contempt; and that suffer from the catastrophic cultural inheritance of Lutheranism, with its hatred for reason. The countries that are at risk are Sweden and Norway, and to a lesser extent Denmark and the Netherlands. If any European country falls to Islam, it will be them.

Yes, Paolo, I wrote Moravia when I should have written Silone. Must have something to do with the enticing cover on the early 1950s Bantam or Dell paperback I possess of "Two Women" as "La Ciociara" is known in English (about a mother and daughter from la Ciociaria, an area outside Rome, raped after the war by some Moroccan soldiers -- which is relevant, I submit, to the themes of JW). I'm going to give Mnemosyne a stern lecture when she returns home from a night on the town.
But about those charges levelled a year or two ago at Silone, for his brief -- almost non-existent -- time as in informant for the Fascist police. I've been reading steadily about that (I can't remember where -- probably the Corriere, but also perhaps in the letters page of the TLS)-- and have become convinced, by reasonable writers, adducing evidence including reports by those in the fascist police who found Silone completely useless, that the original charges made were exaggerated, that what he gave was nothing of value, that this took place very early on (good god, Montanelli was off in Ethiopia at one point), he did what pitifully little he did only to ease the condition of a relative (brother-in-law? can't remember) who was already in a Fascist jail.
I'm unforgiving about those who collaborated with the Fascists or the Nazis (see the various recent postings about Wernher von Braun, or in the long thread following the article about the Germans releasing Hamadi, killer of Robert Stethem) but in this case I don't think there is much not to forgive.
If I happen to run across what I read within the past few months, I'll post it at this thread, or the next time I see your posting at another thread. I don't think Silone did anything wrong. But I hope others here will not come away agreeing with your no-doubt-about-it assertion that "his name is tarnished."
As for Enrico Berlinguer, his presence, his mien, his asciutta-ness, hs learning, were all attractive. A nice aristocratic Communist or, rather, "Communist." I recall (do I remember rightly?) that he would sometimes go to Mass with his wife, apparently to humor her. I think he'd have taken Islam's measure. Not sure that anyone on what is now called the "left" in Italy would do so today (hey, is Massimo d'Alema even alive? I know Andreotti will live forever, but what about those people on the other side?) At the moment, it seems left up to those whom you detest so much, those in La Lega. But even if Bossi is unacceptable, does that mean everyone who has hopped a ride on that particular wagon is just as unacceptable?

Jingoist: what is really tragic about Norway, if I understand the original post and comment correctly, is that the Muslims themselves did not even need to demand that their rights should supersede those of others. It would seem that the PC-obsessed political caste of that unfortunate country just took off its trousers, bent over, and painted a target around its own anus with lipstick, without the local version of CAIR even having to complain. Of course, it is not them who will suffer, but a lot of innocent young women with no political power. The Norwegian Parliament, in case you had not noticed, is currently debating a law which threatens WITH CLOSURE any private business company that does not have 50%women on its board. I think they have gone well beyond insane.
Hugh, Berlinguer was not only a courteous and civilized man (he is a favourite of Oriana Fallaci, and his personal reputation was such that the Fascist leader Almirante was among the first to come to pay his respects when he died), he was a remarkably brave one. One of the most epic moments in Italian history came in I think 1978 or the like, during a world Communist congress in Moscow, when, surrounded by the symbols of imperial Soviet power, in a hall packed to the rafters with time-servers, secret policemen and fanatics, this small, slight, soft-spoken Sardinian stood up and gave, under Brezhnev's increasingly irate and lowering eye, a speech that denounced the lack of freedom in the Soviet Union and demanded reforms. He had managed to convince himself that Communism and freedom were compatible, and while that may have been a sad delusion, in him it was a very noble one. He was an instinctive defender of freedom, and would without a doubt been a firm enemy of Islamo-fascism.
I do not place Silone anywhere near the likes of Wernher von Braun - or, to give a dreadful Italian example, of Pirandello, who was a convinced Fascist and headed Mussolini's Academy of Italy. Of course in the dreadful years there were few people who did not make some sort of compromise; I should condemn members of my own family and people I love and respect if I said otherwise. I was just sad to find it in him.
The left is currently led by Romano Prodi, with Fassino leading the DS party. Unfortunately, they are giving a vintage example of disunity and immaturity, with Communists and Radicals (who should never have been let into the coalition) ranting and raving about abortion and gay marriage, and Fassino refusing to move ahead to the formation of a united Democratic Party. Bossi is on the edge of death, and without him there is just a chance that the League might develop into a civilized group. Berlusconi, having done everything in his power to lose the coming election, may just get a reprieve of execution because of the animosities among his opponents.

Wearing yellow clothing would be a truly anti-muslim statement than wearing a blue scarf. For those who don't want to wear a blue scarf, and even for those who do, wearing yellow clothing, would be anti-Islam and mark one out as an unbeliever.
I just wanted to point this out, because if we are going to wear certain colours to mark us out as being against Islam, then we need to get this right from the very beginning.

Why Europeans are resigned
I heard from a correspondent about an American woman who spends a lot of time in Italy each year. She told him that the ordinary Italians she talks to seem resigned to the Islamization of Italy, which they regard as irreversible, and that their attitude is, "Let's enjoy ourselves while we can."
But why are they resigned? They are resigned because the code of values that led them to admit the Muslims into Italy also precludes the only possible solution, which is to remove the Muslims from Italy. It's not that most of them have considered the idea of removing the Muslims and decided it was too extreme or impracticable, and so rejected it. It's that they have never even considered it. It is funny that the USA now calls for democracy in the Middle East. This is because the cia and state dept worked to undermine democracy in this region. Magdi Allam, himself an Egyptian, has some insights in Corriere [formerly in LaStampa].
