The Muslim Council of Britain, the country's main Muslim organisation, has decided to maintain its boycott of Holocaust Memorial Day.
The MCB's policy is not to take part in the UK's commemorations of the mass murder of Jews because it does not mention non-Jewish victims of genocide.It had been reconsidering this, but the BBC has learned the MCB has decided to boycott this year's event too.
Its leaders argue that crimes against other peoples should also be marked.

Yesterday I heard on the radio (BBC4) an interview with a imman. The Jewish Sabbath starts at sunset on a Friday night, it gets dark around 4pm in January in England and I used to work with several Jews who would get into work early on Fridays in winter to as to be able to leave early to get home in good time. So I would be prepared to give that particular idea the benefit of the doubt.

The British govt acceded to this demand in early 1939 with the "Palestine White Paper" which severely restricted Jewish immigration into the country, just at the time when the Jews most needed somewhere to go, most needed a refuge.
So if they would like to take some sort of fake moral stance over the Holocaust, let them remember the Arab role. And after that, they can admit the Muslim role in the Armenian massacres [not only Turks but Arabs, Kurds, and other Muslims]. But of course the BBC would not know about those matters. During the Holocaust the BBC itself only reported the Holocaust in its broadcasts two or three times --and this by govt policy. So one would not expect too much historical frankness on the Holocaust issue from the BBC either.

last night was truely a heartening display of Jewish-Christian Alliance! Anglicans, Messianic Jews, Zionists, a mutant Catholic (myself) - the gentleman standing next to me sounded very surprised "Are you Polish Jewish?"- he asked perplexed by my mysterious accent. "No, Polish Polish" - I replied much to his increasing bewilderment. Anyway I have proved my point holding a poster with "Israel Reaches For Peace. Iran Theratens War" written on it. The TV crew failed to turn up again (hmmm..wonder why). Nevertheless we got lots of publicity from the passing bikes, cars and buses. They cheered us with hooting and friendly hand-waving. Special thanks to the several black bus drivers, who gave us roaring applause (I just hope that there were no Muslim passengers aboard that would report on them or am I becoming paranoid?). There were prayers for Ariel Sharon, Israeli songs and a shofar blown by one of the participants. We chanted "Peace for Israel!" and "No Holocaust denial!" I wonder if they gave the "diplomats" across the road at the embassy some food for thought at their teatime.
