A cop is only a dude on a average wage, who isn't able to afford a family home in the current climate, and whose work is made extra hard with paper avalances and silly regulations.

I completely agree with Granny Weatherwax. Johnathan, how can you think the American police tackle gangs head on. We might have a rapidly rising gang culture in the UK but it is nothing compared to the US. The police can't do anything because of polically correct thinking. The high amount of black and asian people being arrested gets labled as racist and the police have to ignore these gangs. They would get no/little jail time anyway. You get more jail time for defending yourself here. Victims become criminals. Criminals get away with it. There are plenty of people on here who accuse the British of being cowards on these matters. What appalls me most about this article, and a majority of those related to the recent riots in France and Australia, is the blatantly dangerous racist attitudes of the public authorities and media involved. By casting these conflicts as racial power struggles, they are intentionally creating erroneous racial tensions and erecting walls within our multi-ethnic societies (workplaces, churches, schools, etc.).
The black North African Sudanese Christian refugees I work with are in no way associated with the black North African Algerian Muslim immigrants setting daycare centers on fire. The Indian-Hindus at the temple on my street are certainly not distributing Pakistani-Muslim hate literature to the "youths" in their congregation. And the Lebanese-Christian shopkeepers along the boardwalks aren't interested in enforcing Lebanese-Muslim Sharia law on Australia's public beaches.
It is a sign of institutional racism that demographics must be gerrymandered to contort cultural conflicts into the comfortable old shoes (establishment politics) of race relations.
It is a sign of cultural elitism that supposedly enlightened institutions refuse to even acknowlege that some modern cultures might value a supremist religious ideology above ethnicity, economic class, nationality, or one of many officially-sanctioned lifestyles.

I was talking to an eye witness of the Eid "celebrations" In Manchester, UK. She related how the police were under instructions not to "provoke" the youth who turn up to celebrate by letching at every "white whore" (and trying it on with them) who happens to walk in Rusholme. They drive cars round in circles blocking the main roads and nearby main roads with their pakistani flags, and with horns and music shouting until 3am. Bus routes are diverted.
Extra Police are drafted in - over 200 police stand on the main street of less than half a mile. Not including the "armed killer squads" on standby and those on all nearby roads.
When this girl questioned police a about why they were allowing all this noise half a mile away from the focus at 12:30am the police assured her "it is under control". Note the entire area is residential.
When she asked some yobs what gave them to right to come to manchester and honk their horns, keeping people awake, they replied with "what about xmas" winding their car window up.
A few yards on they shouted, in front of 8 police, "you better watch what you say" and the police did nothing.
Oh and did I mention that at 2:30am they were still setting off fireworks in the crowds and the police were still not "provoking" them by enforcing the law.
Anyway, the policing has "provoked" residents to think moslems are scum who can get away with murder with the authorities blessings.

Yes, I am aware that some Nation of Islam criminals stampeded some Muslim owned liquor stores in Oakland. But this doesn't mean that the Oakland Police Department is giving into Muslims as a result of fear- as in the case of police in the U.K.
The police in U.S. cities don't cease a criminal investigation because of one's religious background and fear of offending that religious population. I work closely with law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and know how they operate.

I was actually asking you a question because I would like to know the answer. Which was how and when the balance of underground power switched in Oakland from Hells Angels to Islamic gangs. The article in The Argus (Bay Area edition) is down now but I recall it was a little more than 1 or 2 off licences being trashed.
