President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blamed the United States and Israel on Thursday for the blowing up of a Shi'ite shrine's golden dome in Iraq, saying it was the work of "defeated Zionists and occupiers."..."They invade the shrine and bomb there because they oppose God and justice," Ahmadinejad said, referring to the US-led multinational force in Iraq.
Actually, he is totally wrong.
The entire planet is currently under attack by aliens, who jam and spam people's brainwaves, resulting in weird protests, strange behaviour and crazy ideas everywhere.

The newspaper reporting this surmises that "His comments may be seized upon by campaigners who have opposed the system of control orders imposed by Home Secretary Charles Clarke on terror suspects who have not been brought to trial."
And, indeed, the BBC reports that Amnesty International is campaigning against Britain's anti-terrorism laws, including the control orders (themselves a watered-down replacement for earlier provisions).
The BBC also reports an arrest under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in Swansea. Explosives experts are at the scene. Civil liberties groups and "human rights lawyers" are doubtless already sharpening their pencils.

Not too long ago, I read an article at A Daily Briefing on Iran, on a meeting of some sort in Iran, that included statements that essentially said, a number of incidents would/will take place before something major happens. The cartoon incident was looked at as one of them.
Does anybody else here remember this article? I will continue to look for it, but I can't find it at the moment.

Now the Islamic world is buying into the pushed forward conspiracy that the US. and Jews are behind this bombing of the Golden dome mosque. Numerous articles coming out of the middle east are promoting this latest of many provocations to continiously work up muslims around the world.
Once again there needs to be shown a definite smoking gun as to who the actual perpetrators where of this attack. It appears that the Iraqi shias are convinced that it was Sunnis' that committed this attack, but the word needs to get out in the strongest way to prevent the civil war which could lead to more severe instability in Iraq.Of course this is what the insurgency wants and has always worked for from the beginning.

I don't know about that, Abby. I don't usually cotton to conspiracy theories, but I'm with the "he who smelt it, dealt it" school of thought for a few reasons:
1. The blogosphere was buzzing about a month or so ago with stories of a chastened Zarqawi who was told to focus on 'occupiers only" because he was enraging Sunni tribespeople by wanton acts of violence against Sunni and Shia alike. (There is far more intermarriage between the sects than the mainstream media would be aware of.)
2. Ahmadinejad would have no shortage of reasons to want to ignite passions in Iraq, from simply trying to refocus global attention away from his nuclear project to rancour at home and in the ex-pat Iranian community abroad vis a vis his repressive, financially incompetent theorcracy and looking to shore up support across the border in Iraq as the saviour of the Shia nation.
3. The last, and most important thought I have is that the mad milenialist not only wants to hasten the appearance of the Mahdi, he wants it to happen in Iran. The shrine at Samara and another shrine in Hilla that was also destroyed were deemed likelier locations, so he may just be looking to put the competition out of the running.
I'm not normally given to conspiracy theories, but we are talking about a corner of the world where that's the ONLY way they think. All that stuff about the Protocols of Zion, etc., is just classic projecting.

Iran leader faces Holocaust case
Germany has condemned Mr Ahmadinejad's remarks
An Israeli lawyer, Ervin Shahar, says he has asked Germany to charge Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with denying the Holocaust.
Mr Ahmadinejad was widely criticised when he said last year that the Holocaust was a "myth" and that Israel should be "wiped off the map".
Germany passed a law in 1993 forbidding Holocaust denial. It is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Six million Jews were killed by the Nazis during World War II.
Mr Shahar said he wanted the German federal prosecutors' office to take the issue before the constitutional court in the hope that international arrest warrants would be issued against Mr Ahmadinejad.
Correspondents say prosecutors will have to consider whether Germany has jurisdiction and whether President Ahmadinejad enjoys immunity.

"I'm awaiting a response about whether they will file charges but I don't know how long it will take," Mr Shahar told the Reuters news agency.

On Monday, British historian David Irving was found guilty in Austria of denying the Holocaust and sentenced to three years in prison.

Although Mr Ahmadinejad did not deny the Holocaust on German soil, another law passed in 2005 permits the filing of international cases in German courts.
Mr Shahar hopes the case might result in international warrants for Mr Ahmadinejad's arrest, thus preventing the president from entering the US or Europe.
The lawyer believes Germany is the best country in which to file the suit, because it is the "most influential European state" and because the country is directly linked to the case.
The prosecutors' office in Karlsruhe has not yet commented.
