Arab Firm to Delay U.S. Port Takeover

An unexpected move. The President should follow it up by releasing them from the deal altogether. From AP:

A United Arab Emirates company has volunteered to postpone its takeover of significant operations at six major U.S. seaports, giving the White House more time to convince skeptical lawmakers the deal poses no increased risks from terrorism.

The surprise concession late Thursday cools the standoff building between the Congress and President Bush over his administration's approval of the deal. Lawmakers praised the temporary hold. But some critics pressed anew for an intensive examination of the deal's risks.

Question:
What if an election for president of UAE were allowed.
The candidates are George W Bush and Osama Bin Laden.
Who would win this election?

Next question:
How big a landslide would it be for Osama(answer to prior question)?

Nice Doggie!
Amr Al-Faisal

Ever since the US began its so-called war on terror billions of dollars of investments belonging to Arabs and Muslims have fled the US economy. The main beneficiaries of this capital flight have been European countries.

In addition, billions of euros in contracts for goods and services that previously went to the US were diverted to the EU.

A consumer boycott of American products began and still remains until today with varying degrees of effectiveness.

Given all this, it is rather odd that the EU countries insist on their right to insult Muslims around the world with their defiant defense of the Danish newspaper that published those cartoons denigrating the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Much has been written about the effects of the Muslim consumer boycott of Danish products on the Danish economy. We have read articles dealing with the loss of jobs in Danish factories and the growing amount of goods that are going to waste due to loss of markets.

But nobody has written about the losses on the Muslim side.

Many Muslims are now unemployed due to their association with Danish goods and services. Billions of dollars have been lost to Muslim businesses around the world for the same reason.

All of this, under the increasingly worried regard of their fellow businessmen and women, who must be saying to themselves, “there, but for the grace of God, go I”.

We have a saying in Arabic “Capital is a coward”. What it means is that business is risk-averse.

The Muslim business communities around the world have now observed how those of them that depended on business with Denmark have had their livelihood destroyed, almost overnight. It is a lesson that they will not forget soon!

Many Muslim businessmen and women will regard with dread the prospect of their livelihood and that of their children being at the mercy of the whims of Dutch pornographers or Italian ministers.

Common sense dictates that in situations such as this people look for alternatives. It hardly takes rocket science to expect Muslims around the world to divert a growing part of their business relationships away from countries that they now regard as unreliable, untrustworthy and irresponsible to those that do not have a chip on their shoulders when dealing with Muslims.

Many countries around the world do not feel they have something to prove vis-à-vis Muslims and are quite happy to do business with them and without the overwhelming need to provoke them from time to time displayed by many Westerners.

These economic shifts will be gradual and discreet. Business people will avoid attracting attention to their actions — especially from Western businesses they are currently involved with.

Ironically, Jacques Chirac, the president of France has chosen this time to lead a large delegation of French businessmen and women to Saudi Arabia.

The French, it seems, are eager to benefit from our growing disenchantment with the US.

Let us receive our French friends and allies with warmth and friendship. After all, diplomacy is the art of saying, “Nice doggie!” while looking for a rock.

Cheney could always go hunting again. (Talk about much ado about nothing)

Mr. Ape Pig - now that it looks like Whittington is going to be ok, I get a kick out of this:

As for the port deal, I hope the legislation that was drawn up earlier will go through, regardless of any public-relations stalling tactics such as these.

It's the only surefire way to keep the takeover from happening.

zhu97-

My political instincts say you're probably right.

(Let the jugglers and clowns start tossing and tumbling. Panem et circenses.)

My gut, though, says enough people are already revolted -who make phone calls, write letters and send emails- that the blather brigade of Muslo-pologists, radio active talking heads, and mere money-makers ("Hell, selling self-heating thumbscrews to Shaitan is not such a bad idea; I mean he'll just get them from the Swiss if we back out of the deal...") won't be able to complete this snowjob, having had their masks slip and the real face of global dealing show through.

It's motto:

Hey, we thought you were asleep. Here's some warm milk! Trust me! Tastes like barbituates! Nah! Good night! A lullaby? Okay, here's one:

[to the tune of "Go to Sleep"]

>I>B>UAE, UAE, they're the nicest folks, believe me.
UAE, UAE, forget the falconing with our enemy.
UAE, UAE, port security will not alter
O' the Caliphate's Restorers they never, never falter..."

Asleep yet?

So how do we keep this flame against the port deal from dying out?? Not only this, but the influx of muslims, their trying to change our way of life, our freedoms.

When I send my friends emails about what's going on, they tend to roll their eyes. I know we're all busy with our own lives. Most work in the public and are VERY politically correct. But everyone needs to stop for a moment and think of the future.

How do we open their eyes and ears??

freewoman-

That the President admitted immediately that he had never even heard of the UAE port deal until it was reported in the Press is a good start.

How committed is this kind of behavior to our national defense?

He didn't even know about it.

Mockery of such airheadedness lasts longer on the mental tongue than statistics, "reasonable" arguments, or whining from the defenders of this folly about "how much the UAE has 'changed'".

Maybe a photoshopped picture (or a nifty little political cartoon from one of the dexterous among us... like "agita8rg8tr"?) of Bush with a falcon on his arm, and its little bell-topped hood monogrammed with the letters UAE wouldn't hurt, either.

Email your representatives and tell them to:

Remember 9/11. Block the port deal.

Keep it simple and keep it unrelenting.

The answer is that nobody would win, cuz the election would be called off upon Dubya's withdrawl. Bush would give up. Heck, he surrendered on Day One of the Islamic War (September 12, 2001). JERUSALEM – With U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday hailing the United Arab Emirates as a key ally trustworthy of managing American ports in spite of fierce opposition from lawmakers, some Israeli officials here are questioning her judgment and calling the Gaza border deal she brokered two months ago an "abject failure" that is now threatening the Jewish state's national security.

Don't worry -- its all for your own safety!

As for me, I'm transferring most of my assests out -- for my own safety! Hey, its the leadership that I don't trust and can't do much about!

Vote? uhh ... yeah -- done that!

Here's what my research shows.
Does anyone else have any input or changes to this?

Background on UAE and Islamist Extremism

-- 1991. On the eve of the 1991 Gulf War, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan,” the father of the current UAE president, branded the United States “our number two enemy” after Israel.
-- 1997. UAE is one of few countries recognizing the Islamist Extremist Taliban as legitimate government of Afghanistan.
-- 1998. Al-Qaida money in UAE Dubai banks linked to the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania blamed on Osama bin Laden.
-- 1999. UAE royal family meets with Osama Bin Laden - after Bin Laden's 1996 and 1998 declarations of war on the United States. UAE rulers maintained close ties to Osama bin Laden before September 11. U.S. intelligence detected an official United Arab Emirates government airplane in Afghanistan to meet with Osama Bin Laden on at least one occasion.
-- 1999-2003. Sheikh Zayed's Zayed Center for International Coordination and Followup, founded in 1999 as the official Arab League think-tank, was shuttered under international pressure in 2003; it provided a platform for anti-Western, anti-Christian and anti-Jewish extremists like Saudi economist Dr. Yussuf Abdallah Al Zamel, who blamed the war in Iraq on "radical Zionist and right-wing Christian" influence.
-- 2001. United Arab Emirates served as a financial base of September 11 hijackers who used UAE banks to get terrorists funds in USA who attacked USA - about half the $250,000 spent on the Sept. 11 attacks was wired to al-Qaida terrorists in the United States from Dubai banks, according to U.S. Treasury investigators
-- 2001. United Arab Emirates served as an operational base for the September 11 hijackers (two of whom came from UAE)
-- 2001. UAE “compensation” plan for the Palestinian intifada in 2001 included $3,000 for every Palestinian shaheed, $2,000 for his family, $1,500 for those detained by Israel, $1,200 for each orphan. In addition, families of those terrorists whose homes Israel demolished each received $10,000. Also in 2001, in support of the martyr’s families in the Palestinian intifada, two telethons were organized in the UAE. “We Are All Palestinians” raised 135 million dirham, or $36.8 million, and “For Your Sake Palestine” raised 350 million dirham, or $95.3 million.
-- 2001. UAE - it was through Dubai that Russian arms dealers supplied bin Laden's Taliban backers in Afghanistan before the U.S.-led war ousted their Islamic government.
-- 2002 to 2005 (?) - UAE - Dubai-based companies in the United Arab Emirates have been cited linchpins in the lucrative nuclear weapons black market that has supplied Iran, Libya and North Korea. SMB Computers, a key element in the nuclear weapons black market operated by Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan. Another UAE company involved in the nuclear black market was Gulf Technical Industries. The shipments were said to have been disguised and often relabeled in Dubai to avoid detection. Dubai company SMB was also the front for the nuclear network that sought to provide up to 1,000 centrifuges to Libya. SMB owner Tahir was shipping agent for nuclear black market, using UAE shipping facilities. UAE port of Dubai served as the port of destination for these shipments.
-- 2002. UAE was favorite transit point for smugglers sneaking past U.S.-led naval patrols enforcing United Nations trade sanctions
-- 2004. UAE Red Crescent donated $2 million to HAMAS “charities” to be distributed to 3,158 terrorists’ orphans.
-- January 2004. According to US officials, banks in UAE remain a key focus in the investigation into terror funding despite moves to tighten reporting rules, freeze accounts and control informal money transfers; this is due to Dubai's history of shady transactions and the difficulty of tracking a matrix of legal and illegal free trade. UAE continues to stonewall the U.S. Treasury Department's efforts to track al Qaeda's bank accounts.
-- March 2005. UAE Friends Society transferred $475,000, through the UAE Red Crescent, to West Bank “charitable” organizations in Hebron, Jenin, Nablus and Tulkarem to distribute to the families of “martyrs”
-- May 10, 2005. Saudi/UAE Al-Majd TV: “the fact that [the U.S.] entered [Iraq] … makes it every Muslim's duty to go out against them, not only the Iraqis… Jihad today has become an individual duty that applies to each and every Muslim… When the Muslims fought in Afghanistan they destroyed the Soviet Union… It collapsed, and Allah willing so will [the U.S.] collapse.”
-- July 2005. Osama Zaki Muhammad Bashiti of Khan Younis in Gaza was arrested as he returned from the UAE, for often transferring funds of as much as $200,000 at a time to the Gaza HAMAS branch. The suicide bombing and attacks, including one mortar attack on Gush Katif, caused the death of 44 Israeli civilians and dozens of injuries.
-- July 27, 2005, the Palestinian Information Center carried a public HAMAS statement thanking the UAE for it’s “unstinting support.” The statement said: “We highly appreciate his highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan (UAE president) in particular and the UAE people and government in general for their limitless support
-- February 2006. UAE Company Hosts Hamas Web Site - a company in the United Arab Emirates provides hosting services for one of the leading web sites of Hamas
-- February 2006. Misuse of passports on the rise in UAE. "Cases of fraud involving misuse of passports are on the rise in the UAE, Khaleej Times, has learnt."

UAE is only backing off because the heat is on.

UAE and the State Department do not want a investigation into this matter. This is the State Department that is negotiating away our freedoms and has the US compensating every middle eastern country we can write a check to.

A AP article today reported that the UAE gave the US $100 million 1 month before this deal was anounced, and this money was given to help out the people of New Orleans.

This is the same UAE that would not give a dime to the tsunami victims that were all fellow muslim. I guess they had nothing to gain from the tsunami countries since they already control those.

The State Department and the ACLU are the most dangerous institutions in America for our freedoms.

George W. says that they are great allies in the war on terror. Ok George, what have they done that we did not write a check for? Or does that make them a great allie because they would accept our check?

Isn't the Al-jazeera owned, controlled, and headquartered in the UAE by family royalty?

daveconcerned wrote: Hopefully it will cause MAJOR law changes that will reduce the "over the border" outsourcing and bring good jobs back into our country. This is my hope.

Let me just point out that the worlds largest shipping company, Maersk line, is Danish and has been working closely with the US military for many years:

http://www.maerskline.com/link/?page=brochure&path=/about_us

Is the current administration so stupid?
Did Bush and company not think someone would say "Hey wait a minute this looks funny".
I guess I just don't have a big enuff world view to realize it's only business, nothing personal.

"And how many of us knew before this week that foreign companies -- were major operators in 15 American ports?"

I did, I did…! See my post of yesterday – under “Spencer: Bush’s Port Jihad” where I wrote:

"Japan, China and the Danish all currently have companies, which operate, at our ports in the US, TODAY!
The United Stated of America - allowed this because we vacated the Port Operations business when Matson closed theirs doors in about 1982."

This is why both U.S. political parties need to be FIRED and a slate of real “Nationalist” needs to be installed. By a “real” nationalist, I would mean a citizen whose family was here before War of 1812; preferable before the Rev. War. Me, I am a 10th Generation American, going back to 1629. I want my country back. It’s the “United States of America” and not the united states of the free world.

It’s time to end the political correctedness!

Now go back to boiling frogs.

daveconcerned wrote: Sorry odin, king of gods,
It was off topic and i apologize.

Don't worry, you don't have to apologize for anything. Maersk is a commercial giant and as such they can be pretty ruthless in exploiting their near-monopoly status in many countries. In Iraq they have made themselves quite unpopular recently:

I feel your pain, as I used to encounter the SAME disbelief and denial among family and friends. This may help remove the blinders; do a Google search on the president of Iran by typing in: "Mahmoud Ahmadinejad 12th Imam Mahdi"

The information you'll uncover about the president of Iran will stun any audience; because Ahmadinejad believes he has an "obligation" to create worldwide calamity so he can ushur in the return of an ancient prophet of the Shi'ite faith, the Imam Mahdi - a prophet Ahmadinejad CLAIMS to have personally spoken with - and Mahdi will only return to earth during a time of devastation.

And - Ahmadinejad was told by this Imam Mahdi that he'll be coming back in two years!! And I think he revealed this to Ahmadinejad about six months ago - which explains this 'mad mans' bold behavior. Good luck!

jeffreyimm,

Thank you for that background information about the UAE. Do you have links or citations available?

Who's side is Bush on? What the hell is he thinking? Seriously - does anyone out there know why-on-earth Bush would give known terrorists an ounce of control over our ports? I feel like I'm living in the Twilight Zone!

Bush is behaving like a desperate man - but why?

Bush increasingly reminds of of the British General "Chinese" Gordon in the movie Khartoum.

The only difference being that Gordon was loyal to the Crown, and Bush is disloyal to the U.S. Constitution.

I don´t want more wahabbism and petrodollar monarchies, they are disgusting, we need moral in politics, not only money. We need coherent and faithful politics.

According to CBC news, a UAE company already has the contract for the Vancouver ports. This is already in operation. Canadians should be concerned, but Americans should be especially concerned because of the close proximity to the huge and undefendable Canadian-American border.

My technique was to avoid telling them that Islam is violent and anti-ethical, but just to let the Qur'an do the talking. I got a bunch of quotes from the Qur'an and Surah and let them look it over. I don't think anyone finished reading the disgusting disturbing stories there (I mean, stabbing a sleeping poet while a baby suckled at her breast because the poet insulted Muhammad?!?) My mom said "Get that cr*p away from me, I don't want that in my life!", but everyone of them was changed by reading it. When the cartoon-jihad was raging, I just printed out the cartoons (from the web, not from the media) and showed it around, and they all said something like "They're so boring. They're not even funny. What's the big deal?" Just provide information, let them make up their own mind.

jeffreyimm, that is an excellent summary, thank you.

Well, let's see ... uh, first George says he will veto any attempt delay this thing; then he says he doesn't know anything about the details and only found out through the media; what is he saying now?

It's true -- nothing personal -- just business.

Okay, I'm not Exxon but I do alright; have a couple of corporate jets; a couple hundred very great AMERICAN employees; some nice buildings -- but I get the feeling that my interests are not good enough for George and the big guys.

I'm not big enough for to be of concern to George since UAE is bigger and more important.

Since his loyalties are elsewhere -- perhaps I need to consider a more strategic plan that aims to reduce my shareholder's and investor's exposure to risk posed by the potential problems raised by this transaction.

The big guys have already minimized their risk -- would it not be prudent and fiscally responsible for me to do the same thing?

You can bet there are a lot of people thinking along the same lines.

Guess who's going to get bitten in the end -- the poor schmuck that can't afford to move out and the little people who will eventually find themselves without jobs.

Yup George -- you are a true patriot.

Thanks for the link Shinoliite. I got my X-mas shopping done early this year (now that Whittington is going to be okay)

Administration: UAE 'has changed'
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=48970
Spokeswoman compares Emirates to Pakistan, 'a critical ally'
Frances Fragos Townsend took questions from reporters today... "I don't take issue with the 9-11 commission's characterization prior to September 11, but I will tell you, prior to September 11, Pakistan also recognized the Taliban. They, too, are now a critical ally in the war on terror"...

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

That is desperation for certain.
Comparing them to "Death to America" ... ally (???) Pakistan.
Our "ally" (LOL) Pakistan:
- the same nation with the thousands of maddrassas that teach Islamist Extremism to kill the Americans and the Jews
- home of many Jihadist terror attack planners, including the London bombing planner
- home to some of the most aggressive Islamist Extremist imams in the world
- home to the black market of nuclear weapon components shipped (via UAE by the way and UAE ports) to Iran, North Korea, and other enemies
- the same nation that refuses to let US soldiers hunt for Osama Bin Laden
- likely the same nation that has tacitly been tolerating the prescence of Bin Laden in mountainous region
- the same nation that burns America restaurants, churches, and has frequent rallies of Islamist Extremists who seek "Death to America"
- the same Islamist Extremist nation that has been responsible for the death of 60,000 in terrorist attacks in India over past 20 years

OK this week the Bush administration has proven two things:
-- they do not understand Islamist Extremism at ALL
-- they are clueless in fighting the war against Islamist Extremism

As much as I hate to sound like a Democrat, I now believe that Bush doesn't have the brains to process the requisite information.

We must pass a law prohibiting from government all who ever attended an Ivy League university. We need a new style of leadership. We need a regular guy. For example, a pig farmer suffering from acute paranoia. Somebody's who's not afraid to roll around in the mud. Now that would be a leader.

Somebody's who's not afraid to roll around in the mud. Now that would be a leader

LOL

Ah pig-farmer, but are you truely prepared for the kind of cesspool that you will have to roll in to get anywhere near the Washington?

The stink they say, warps the brain and stunts the growth; alas poor George, I thought I knew him well.

But, if you insist ...

If there is a delay of 50 years, that might be long enough.

IMHO, we (meaning me, you, and everyone else) don't have to justify our opposition based on security, secret money deals, proper investigations or anything else based on logic or sound judgement. Its perfectly ok to justify it based on nervousness, distrust, fear and paranoia.

I am very serious about this. I don't personally have factual knowlege about the deal, nor do I care that other foreign businesses have run ports in the past, and I don't care that DHS or the Coast Guard are actually in charge of security, and I especially don't give a damn if the shipping containers are inspected on foreign soil or that the manifests have to be sent over 96 hours before arrival.

That fact is, it makes me nervous, I do not trust any country in the Middle East, 9-11 was only 4.5 years ago, and this deal should be cancelled cause psychologically we won't feel we are being stabbed in the back. The idea that Middle East companies and governments should not be judged by a different standard is stupid. They should be judged by a different standard for AT LEAST the next 50 years.

Mr Jones

You would think the professional DHS researchers could have come up with these, right?

Folks, I mentioned that the UAE company in question already has a deal in place in Canada on the west coast (Vancouver port). Here's a link. Keep in mind that the author is clueless as to the UAE's involvement with Islamic terrorist organizations http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20060223.wportz0223/BNStory/Business/home

"Guess who's going to get bitten in the end -- the poor schmuck that can't afford to move out and the little people who will eventually find themselves without jobs."

Yes..........you are so correct. These Global Elites want it exactly that way! They have no loyalty to any country which is exactly the reason these Global Elites run their financial dealings on the sand island which is a Global City State.......NO RULES! It is just the ELITES from around the world and the servants who come from 3rd world countries to serve them cold drinks and massage their sore behinds.

So giving a flying #### what happens to the little people in America.......they don't.........they actually need to sell all our assets off......devalue the dollar.......and make sure poor schmucks like me continue working until I am 85 years (the new retirement age they keep talking about).

Hell.....the only reason they created a middle class in this country was to prevent the masses from attacking them in their walled mansions. Now that the world is so technical........their loyalty to the little people can be manipulated so much easier with this little thing called TERROR.

Mr. Jones? Aren't you that mysterious dude from the Dylan song?

But your observation is astute. There is an assumed gate, a supposed approval process, that we're putting ourselves through here. Whose approval? The media's approval? The Moslems approval? The Moslem Media's approval?

PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH

You gotta love the formlessness of Islam. It's a religion that's not a religion. A nation not shown on any map. A racial group that embraces people of all races. A military operation with no uniforms and no barracks. An ethical belief system that recognizes animalistic power as its only principle.

We can never pretend to earn the approval of Moslem Man.

Why? I take you back to 627 AD, when Mohammed --- fresh from his first successes as an organized crime leader --- mailed his death threat letters to the leaders who had him surrounded and outnumbered. The Govenor of Egypt, the Emperor of Persia, the Emperor of Byzantium, and the Prince of Abyssinia all received Mohammed's famouis death letter, and each man's empire was subsumed into the Nation of Islam (that's not a nation) only years later.

With chutzpah like that, should President Bush not also drop to his knees in obeisance? Hell, let's admit the truth to ourselves, guys: a single Moslem Man could take over the world. These people are that pushy. That motivated.

I just want to "explode" every time somebody on the news states" the problem is a tiny minority hiding in a cave" thing.

Islam is the problem.

Once the UAE allows for free and open religion, quits funding terror, and states the Jews have a right to life, and accept them as real humans, I would go with the idea they are a "true" ally.

Bush is behaving like a desperate man - but why?

Bush has many personal relationships with Arab royal families. This sort of visible reaction against Arab royal families by the U.S. public has to put strain on those relationships.

UAE has helped the U.S. in the war on terror. Not because the UAE royal family is against terror, but because the U.S. is helping UAE implement their own agenda in the ME.

Bush is in trouble domestically (Scooter Libby/Karl Rove/Dick Cheney CIA leak, Whitehouse links to indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff), and doesn't want to appear like a weak lameduck by backing down on any issue.

Some conservatives here are upset that Democrats are looking good by trying to stop the deal. But on the flip side, I do not feel any joy in having a President who doesn't feel confident enough to stand up against this deal.

These Global Elites want it exactly that way! They have no loyalty to any country

Does anybody remember that movie "Network", where the newscaster commits suicide on-air? It's from the late '70s early '80s, and it has turned out to be a very accurate predictor of the '90s and '00s. It has a major subplot about Arabs taking over the U.S. by purchasing it piece by piece. There is a speech by the network president where he explains exactly what you said: there are no nations, there is only money. The elites of the Arab and U.S./European nations only have loyalty to each other (not to their citizens), to the degree that they can help each other become more elite. I swear to g*d it looks like a documentary, not a comedy.

I'm glad the chimp in chief backed down; Looks like the back channel stuff with daddy, Neal and Condi worked quite well. The Dubais folks are allowing due diligence; ain't that swell? Good people. The one issue W had in his favor--a big issue to be sure--is his single-minded pursuit of terror and protection of America. Now the dufas has lost even that. Now we have two years left with the dunce in the china shop. But looks at the bright side: the Dubais fiasco and the Harriet Miers fiasco reveals another quality. He's a whuss. Is that a word? It has meaning, it's short, it should be a word. Yes, he's a whuss. A lack of you know what. He threatens bluster with a Reaganesque veto threat which ends up as the girlie man in chief. And thats a good thing since it allows for the withdrawl of Mrs. Miers and the backing off Dubais, allowing Mr. Chimp to save face. It's been a long week. Time to cut some brush. Dust off the cowbow hat. Take a Crawford trip. Ride a horse. Affirm his manhood; what's left of it.

My technique was to avoid telling them that Islam is violent and anti-ethical, but just to let the Qur'an do the talking. I got a bunch of quotes from the Qur'an and Surah and let them look it over

.. I think that's an excellent idea Special Guest. Do you have a few of the charming quotes to save me wading through numerous websites?

Cathkins-- check out this recent post by the good Dr. Pepper-- it was such a goldmine of chapter/verse citations that I saved it. It's quite a collection of the more "charming" verses:

(again, thanks to Dr. Pepper, pbuh)

It's 21 US ports, not 15 or 6 but 21! Why don't we just start negotiating our surrender now?

My deepest fear and I'm afraid my worst nightmare is that it's going to take another major attack on US soil for people really wake up. You'd think 2 airliners flying into buildings would be enough.

"A United Arab Emirates company has volunteered to postpone its takeover of significant operations at six major U.S. seaports, giving the White House more time to convince skeptical lawmakers the deal poses no increased risks from terrorism."

Very nice of them.

This issue (foreign companies owning U.S. port operations) has not been of concern to me till recently because I have not studied it in detail. From what I know from the news (and lets not leave out JihadWatch), I certainly think that for security reasons the United Arab Emirates company should be denied take over of port operations.

But there is a larger issue here. I have been surprised to find out (because of this specific issue) that practically all of our port operations are owned by foreign interests, including some that are run by the fascist regime of China. I think we should end this practice at all ports.

In the ninetheenth century China-once a great power-lost her soverignty (and self-respect)because of this practice. So many of China's great ports were in control of foreign interests, including Hong Cong and Canton. This practice opened the door to foreign influence among her politicians, and opium flowed into that great nation through ports that were not in her control. It took China 100 years to regain her sovereignty after she lost the Opium war (1842). Will we have a similar fate because of this policy that destroyed China?

I think its time to follow the current policy of China and put all our port operations under the control of United States companies, the people of the United States, and the U.S. government. I believe that the great Chinese patriots of the early nineneteent century, who warned against the control of China's ports by foreign companies, would agree with me.

Six, yesterday; 21 today; tomorrow -- my golf bags are packed and to my secure undislosed location -- here I come.

Here's surah 5:32, the one George is always quoting to prove that Islam is the Religion of Peace:

... whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind.

But, being an actual Yale Man and an actual Harvard Man to boot, being a great intellectual, lazy-ass George never bothered to scan his beady eyes down to the next surah, 5:33, in which God goes on to elaborate:

The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom.

In some translations "corruption" is called "mischief." Throughout Islam, failing to either convert to Islam, accept Dhimmitude, or die is considered an act of war upon Islam and is a corrupt and mischievous act to be dealt with in the most severe possible way.

For example, detonating an atomic bomb and obliterating Baltimore would please God because of our nation's track record for making mischief in the land. That's why we keep upping our Jizya payments and our Dhimmitude, hoping that God and the Moslems will be able to control their explosive tempers.

Hey all,
I am visiting the beautiful Arizona Biltmore with a bunch of crazy right wing intellectuals at the behest of the indomitable David Horowitz. Robert Spencer is here along with Daniel Pipes, Steve Emerson and Phyllis Chesler who were all on a panel together this morning.

James Woolsey gave a very disappointing talk at breakfast in which he parsed and teased out every group of Muslims there is and gave little histories on each, so that it was all very complicated, and went on about how it's a tiny minority Wahabbis and Salafis who are the bad guys and we don't have to worry about "mainstream Islam."

Just when I was to the point of pounding my head on the table in frustration, Dr. Graeme B. (from the UK I might add) came to my rescue and asked the obvious question, "but, Dr. Woolsey, isn't it all just jihad?" I could have kissed him. Turns out, he and his father, who is also here, are avid jihadwatch readers.

Of course, later, in Robert's panel, the questions were all very knowledgeable, which leads me to think that we Americans were guilty of giving too much deference to Woosley, but in all fairness, he spoke at length about alternative fuels and so the American were sidetracked, but still...I thought it was the Brits who were supposed to be more deferential to the powerful and afraid of stepping on toes...

I must say also in another panel I was a bit disappointed in Ken Timmmerman's insistence that we must stand with the "people of Iran" against the Mullahs. Like Hugh, I think we've done more that enough of that kind of thing in Iraq. Why does he think it would work in Iran? As John Derbyshire says, rubble countries make no trouble. Bomb their cities, smash up their ports, demolish their infrastructure and then DO NOT go back in and rebuild it, This is not 1946, We're at the beginning of this war, not the end.

Last night I got to meet the head of the National Rifle Association. A petit Jewish woman from Tucson named Sandy Froman. It's quite a contrast from Charlton Heston and the traditional image of the NRA! I am just so proud that a woman can hold that job. And it was impressive to the Jewish people here that she is Jewish, too. I didn't know that until Horowitz said so introducing her. Very cool.

I also met a very nice man and his wife from Frontpage magazine, Ben and Terry Johnson. Ben is a big reason frontpage magazine is so good, wonderfully intelligent and thoughtful. They flew in from Ohio where it was 25 degrees when they left. It's in the high 70's here, sunny and beautiful.

Robert is in good spirits and his talk was fantastic, though he keeps calling me "boss." I don't know why. He's heading home tomorrow, but I'll be staying to the bitter end and then some.

Hugh, darling, wish you were here. You would have made a wonderful addition, but I guess somebody has to hold down the fort.

I'll blog more as time permits.

My best to everyone, Rebecca

Dittos, and keep Sandy Froman nearby, Rebecca.

The Baron has a different view re Bush/ports/UAE. "Strategic Exigencies" http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/
Worth a read.

I voted for Gore in 2000. Was mad when Bush won. Then came 9/11. Post 9/11, I fell in love with Bush. Now... I'm not so sure that he's really representing our interests. For the life of me, I simply cannot wrap my brain around what the hell is going on with this deal. I remain quite skeptical. If he's doing this for money and because he's a lame duck, I will forever be ashamed of this Administration (one which I have previously likened to Reagan).

God Bless the Second Amendment. God help the islamonazi's invading our lives, our homes, our ports, our government, and our schools. Let them be forewarned... if We The People revolt against this oil tick menace, it's going to get ugly.

Sounds like a hell of a time, Rebecca-- quite a collection of people there, other than James Woolsey. I bet no one wanted to party with him after that. ;)

I've encountered "boss" as a term of endearment on one or two occasions. My cat, Elmo, addresses me as "Urrrf?". That's higher on the list.

Michael Savage just called into his own radio show. He took the day off because of a very credible death threat.

It's hard for me to be sympathetic, after last night, when he came out of the closet as a Unicorn watcher.

People just don’t understand Islam because it’s complicated I have read the history of Islam. Mohammed himself would never approve of what has been done with his memory. He never wanted to be set up as a deity. At its best, Islam is a beautiful religion. It teaches against blood sacrifice, for example, and prohibits many other bad things. Of course Islam is based on Judaism and Christianity, Mohammed said that he was the successor to Abraham and Jesus, which of course is blasphemy to Jews and Catholics. But Mohammed never wanted to impose the Islamic faith on others. That started with Abu Bakr, after Mohammed died. Abu Bakr, and evil man, was the one who perverted Islam and switched the religion’s goal to conquering others.

PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH PBUH

Pathetic. And disappointing.

Tempest in a teapot?

I know I'm in the tiniest minority here. And I am not a Bushbot, as they say. The ports are a mess, the borders are a mess. Bush proposals on immigration are a disaster. But the focus on this Dubai deal is a total Democrat engineered smoke-screen. Don't your warning signals go up when you have to crawl into bed with Hillary and Chuck Schumer?

I often feel sorry for Savage. He seems like a very decent fellow, and it is a relief to hear somebody screaming about the things he screams about.

As an historian and lawyer, though, I shudder when he pontificates on history or law...

==============================================

A well informed congress can help defeat Islam.

The Texican.

Freedom. The only choice at any cost.

Among the stupidest charges, not only by the Adminstration (and Bush himself) but by such permanent naifs as David Brooks, a Cub Scout Brooks who still finds nothing wrong with Rodney King's simple presriptioin for world peace, and is deeply impressed with the ability of something he calls the "global economy" to smooth over all differences and soothe any savage breasts, is that to have doubts about, to dislike, to despise, to regard with horror this Dubai Port approval business, both substantively and procedurally, is that it is "anti-Arab" bigotry.

Indeed, Brooks so liked this idea, that on the Lehrer Report he went on and on about "anti-Arab bigotry" and the "horde" of people who exhibited a lynch-mob mentality, and he ended up by alluding to Gregory Peck and "To Kill a Mockingbird." So there we are, all of us, in Congress and without, who dare to question the wisdom of treating the good old U.A.E., the collection of greedy statelets, each more comical than the next, centers of intigrue, money-laundering, arms-dealing, every kind of louche activity known to man, but always with an islamic theme, a promotion-of-Islam theme, the country that was one of three to recognize the regime of the Taliban, that bred several of the 9/11 terrorists, that has sponsored (or rather, the Zayed Foundation has sponsored, the ravings of one Thierry Meyssan, who blames America itself for having carried out the 9/11 attacks), and that is not, and never will be, anything other than a self-interested party, cleverly doing whatever it has to do to insure American protection against the big bullies in the neighborhood, Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, but never ever joining our side in the war of self-defense against the Jihad. How can it? The people in the U.A.E. are Muslims, and they support the Jihad. Oh, they may not support the use of "terror" by the particular "terror" group involved (Al Qaeda), but that is only because they feel threatened by it themselves. Any "terror" group that kills Infidels and only Infidels - Hamas, and Hezbollah, for example, or Jaish-e-Mohammed in Pakistan -- well, that's okay. That's all right with them.

The next time somone -- David Brooks or possibly someone even sillier, say his colleague Tom Friedman (who makes Brooks appear to be Scott of The Guardian)-- starts talkinga about "anti-Arab bigotry" here explain to that person as follows:

You would be equally opposed to a non-Arab Iranian-owned company controlling the ports.

You would be equally opposed to a non-Arab Pakistani company controlling the ports.

You would be equally opposed to a non-Arab Malayasian company controlling the ports.

And (you may add) I would be opposed to any European country that had been extensively islamized, controlling those ports, or remaining privy to any NATO or other Western military secrets.

Oh, you can't guess why? No one in the Administration can guess why?

Let's start with Qur'an 9.29. Now let's include all of Sura 9. Now let's add to it Qur'an 3.11) (the superiortiy of Muslims to non-Muslims). Now let's take a look -- David Brooks, can you take time out from your busy holier-than-thou pontificating to find out just a little about what all Muslims are taught deeply to believe, to Qur'an 5.51, about never taking Jews or Christians as friends (that is, as real friends -- feigned friendship to further the cause of Islam is allowed).

Now let's take a look -- members of Congress, who wants to put this posting in the Congressional Record, so that we can start taking a little look at what Muslims are taught, so that we can all be let in on this -- let's go to Qur'an 47.4, someting about smiting the Unbelievers around the neck. How about Qur'an 33.61, desribing us, you and me, the Unbelievers, the Infidels, as the cursed ones whom, wherever you the Believer find them, are to be taken and killed without pity. Well, that's not very nice, is it? That isn't reassuring to the people in Baltimore and New York and Philadelphia and New Orleans, is it, knowing that the new owners of the company that will control security in their very own ports, in their very own vulnerable cities, are Muslims, and that apparently Muslims regard everything written in the Qur'an as the uncreated (always existing), immutable Word of God? Now that poses a bit of a problem, doesn't it?

Should I go on? This was off the top of my two-glasses-of-wine head. Shoud we go to the figure of Muhammad, uswa hasana, al-insan al-kamil? What about Bukhari LVIII 236, or Muslim XVII 4216, or Bukhari LII 260? Hey, take a look, everyone in Congress -- this is the man that Muslims are taught, and go crazy, fanatically crazy, if anyone dares to suggest otherwise, is the man beyond criticism, the Perfect Man, who is to be emulated in every way. And the U.A.E. is full of people who are taught to think that -- and you know something? As you can see by looking around the world, or studying the history of Islamic conquest and subjugation of non-Muslims, or for that matter the behavior, today, of Muslims in Pakistan, in Indonesia, in Nigeria, in the Sudan, or for that matter all over the Muslim quarters of the countries of Western Europe into which they were allowed to come, to settle, to receive without question generous benefits -- they do indeed take their Qur'an, and their Hadith, seriously.

Shouldn't we?

Rebecca--

Those of us born and bred on John Wayne and other heroes on horses clip-clopping through Monument Valley to see justice done were long limited to learning about only one kind of cactus, the admittedly photogenic saguaro distributed here and there by Mother Nature and filmed by the whirring cameras of John Ford, and therefore are delighted when we discover, at the Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, beautifully laid out, dozens or hundreds of other species of cacti. When you've had your fill of the numinous presences telling you all the obvious things you already know, try to get to the Botanical Gardens.

Well, Phoenix Convention and Visitors Center, or whatever you call yourself, after that paragraph above don't you think a free press trip for its impecunious author is in order? Or don't the tens of thousands of visitors to this site count as potential visitors or convention-goers?

And on another note, RB, I suddenly recall -- here, right now, when no one is eavesdropping, and no one will know, strictly entre-nous --those non-existent but still fun to recall motor trips and burning lips and burning toast and prunes...

test (1st time poster)

David Brooks spoke of a meeting where this issue was discussed by a large group of people, all talking about the political points, except for one little old man in the corner who talked about the religious aspect. I had hoped it was you, Hugh, and that your influence would rub off on him and all the others in the room.

Hugh-

Saw this Brooks puree of slanderous pabulum earlier this evening and felt insulted to be compared to knee-jerk anti-semites merely because I have done something he has clearly avoided for his 50 or so years:

-opening the guidebook of the Jihad.

If Iceland converted en masse to Islam, I wouldn't want them, Nordic "Aryans" controlling any aspect of our ports.

If China linked up any closed to Islam, I'd want them tossed out of the ports they already manage.

It's the Jihad, stupid!

-should be tattood on the foreheads of these smarmy, chuckling blather-meisters.

They remind me of newsreel faces from 1938.

The unreality is staggering.

And the range of opinion at the table (nil) was a sign of public television's urge to be universally inoffensive.

Which I found obnoxious.

"Little old man"? This is inaccurate when applied to me. I am not, and never have been -- but there is still time -- the star of Wanda Ga'g's "Millions of Cats" -- though that story remains an influence on my geopolitical thinking, even more so than "The Little Engine That Could."

But I want to make a more general attack. I don't like, and never have, the epithets "little" and "old" put together. Plenty of old people are not "little" and plenty of "little" people (not that I would ever use that adjective in that way) are not "old." Together it is a fixed phrase that gets my billy-goat very gruff. Someday you will be old. You may have parents, or grandparents, who are old. Would you find tolerable, or intolerable, anyone describing any of them as "little old" people?

Anyone says that to me, and I'm taking my blankie and pillow and moving out of this nursing home -- and pronto.

Sorry, his words, not mine. I swear, I only hoped it was you that he was talking about because you said you were 98!

You mean he said "I'm just a little old man, but..." Or, "well, I may be a little old man but..." J'en doute. Well, all right, I'll pretend to accept the implausible notion that he described himself that way (in which case we must deduct points from his presentation) but just don't use that phrase in my presence again, okay?

In any case, it seems to me, looking back, that I must be much older than 98. Good god, if I were only 98, how could I have spoken to Charles Malik in his prime? How could I have shaken the hand of someone who had shaken the hand of Leo Tolstoy? How could I have known Roman Vishniak when he was still taking pictures? Or seen Eddie Cantor at his final performance at The Palace? Or rocked on a rocking chair on old Cape Cod, right next to Padraic Colum, and traded tales of Ireland and St. John Gogarty. Oh, I must be much older than 98.

Or maybe I'm really much younger. I forget.

The book's author, Roman Vishniak, took the photos, some with his camera hidden, between 1935 and 1938 in Poland and Russia, Romania and Hungary. ...

Hmmm....

You're forgetting his later work with the electron microscope.

... those of us born and bred on John Wayne and other heroes...

John Wayne. Jimmy Stewart. Ronald Reagan. June Carter and Johnny Cash. They've all passed on, God bless 'em all. Who will be our icons now? This leaves us cold and naked, exposed to the elements, both Moslem and otherwise.

Who will lead our culture now?

That would be you, Fitzpatrick. You've lead an ascetic life. You've studied the history of Marxism. I call upon you, sir, to doff that awful Burkha of your Naseem impersonation and to put on a cowboy suit and to release a country album entitled Hugh Fitzpatrick's Guitar Tribute to Americana. If you need contacts to get things going, I know several musicians working in the C&W and Irish mucic spaces, just give me a call.

We need new heros. For God's sakes man, are you willing to step forward?

Oh, I must be much older than 98.

Or maybe I'm really much younger. I forget.

Hugh: I had you pegged for roughly 138 years of age-- imagining a sort of benevolent C. Montgomery Burns-- by calculating how many years it will take me to approach your command of history and languages (112 more to go).

Fitzpatrick

All the times his name has been butchered, and he's never issued a fatwa or blown up a car.

You're a better man than I, Hugh, and not just because I'm not a man.

Alarmed,

Good posts. If you haven't seen my plug for this already, I've written an analysis of verse 5:32 (and 5:33-5:37) here.
http://www.ebonmusings.org/atheism/guestessays/islam_peace.html

Sam Shamoun has written about verse 5:33 and discusses "mischief" and its interpretation. The upshot is that mischief can include verbal warring against Allah and the prophet. (Scroll down near the later part of his article)
http://answering-islam.org.uk/Shamoun/badawi_tolerance.htm

These verses give licence to kill non-Muslims.

To antepenultimate poster above --

Why, I thought I already -- shyly, retiringly -- had.

More than two years ago Robert asked me if I would put on the white trunks and get into the ring here at JihadWatch in order to represent Western Civilization, while he'd continue to handle all the rest, the bit about what's in the Qur'an and the Hadith. Division of labor. Efficiency. Yankee can-doism. Taylorism at the Watertown Arsenal. Well, my footwork may still need work, but I really took to that book-learning. Yes, in that respect I turned out to be a natural. History, literature, art, science, political theory, law, you name it -- it's been fun, representing this Western Civ., threats to which we've all been hearing so much about.

While we are at it, and just to show I am not as uncomplaining as a poster above suggests, I will point out that fitz or fils, meaning quite possibly once-upon-a-time bend-sinster son of, should in my case precede "Gerald" and not "Patrick." Earls of Desmond. Earls of Kildare. Ugolino della Gherardesca. Accuracy in Media. And in name-calling. Puh-leeze.

You forgot spelling, Mr. Phitzjerald.

Ah, Roman Vishniak. What is that story? He wanted to photograph an isolated village of Jews in a ultra-remote mountain village. He bribed a guide to take him up into the mountains. The horse grew weak, and the guide demanded he carry his own camera and film. The continued up the mountain; the guide cursing the adventure. The horse wheezed and stopped. The guide cursed Roman, returned the money, and descended down the mountain, leaving Mr. Vishniak halfway up the mountain with heavy camera supplies. Didn't Mr. Vishniak make several trips up the mountain, trying to find the little village of doomed souls. His sixth sense told him it would all be over for his people. Exhausted he continued up and down the mountain, searching for the village. What is that a metaphor for?

Nighthawk, we may not be at war with them, but they are at war with us and we are fighting a half hearted war with out understanding the enemy.

It's not the Muslims as Individuals that we must fight, they are humans, fathers and mothers just like us, It's the culture of Islam that prevents them form living better lives, just as we fought the culture of the Nazi's and the culture of the Soviets and not the German and Russia peoples.

My problem with Bush and the global capitalist class is that they see global trade as the end all and be all of the worlds problems. They are 100% right, to a point, except with Islam.

While globalization may lift India out of poverty it will not transform the nature of Islam and free the Muslim people, because it is too totalitarian a belief system that will squash any human development. Add to that its use of violence and total lack of separation of mosque and state making it is impossible that capitalism will flower there and transform Muslim peoples everyday lives. unless there is a catastrophic event.

Iraq is the proof of this, Iran, the Gulf states, Egypt and the Palestinians speak to the fact that it's not a development issue but an ideological issue. A religious issue.

Bush may get the Jihad part but does not get the Da'wa.

He is compromising American national security for the ideals of the global enterprise class, it's not just good global development that we need but, safety from Ideological dangers such as Islam.

Islam is a global religious/political Ideology that threatens the world and Bush lets an extreme, sharia state act like any other multinational business entity.

UEA is not, it is an ally of connivence one we should use if we need to, but for heavens sake don't pretend it's like any other global company just looking out for the bottom line.

As a conservative and a Republican and an American I will not rest till this deal is dead and my fellow Republican are awake and watching out for Islam.

"UEA is not, it is an ally of connivence"
-- from a posting by El Cid above

That, El Cid Campeador, may have been a mistake -- but a telling, even brilliant, one. That is exactly what the U.A.E. and Pakistan, and Egypt and the other Muslim states are, at best, to us. Allies of convenience, and of connivance as well.

But that kind of "ally" is no ally at all.

Fitzgerald. Fitzpatrick. Whatever. I'm sitting here struggling trying to keep 3,000 hogs happy and you're gonna call me to account for a lousy typo?

I still demand answers. Who is Naseem, really? How come we have this supposed woman whispering awful things to us from the mouth-slot of her Burkha. Why? So many burning questions. Where are my replacement cultural icons? Where are all of these goddammed Unicorns? Wouldn't 1.2 billion braying mythical horses be hard to conceal?

I want answers and I demand satisfaction now. I've contributed repeatedly to this webiste's fund --- something most of you can't claim --- and I want answers for my hard-earned money.

I am a checkbook-waving dude in overalls somewhere in the Kentucky area who has maybe or has maybe not ingested too much Bourbon and I want to know where the beef is in my hamburger. Is that too much too ask?

Fitzwhatever in the hell your name is, I demand that you either a) reveal Naseem, or b) identify our replacement cultural icons. Or both. Whatever. Hell, I'll take whatever you got to offer, man.

maybe or has maybe not ingested too much Bourbon - posted by APF

Pork and bourbon... Is your life expectancy in negative numbers? ;)

I'm personally not a believer in the Hugh/Naseem conspiracy theory. Too many nuances of style. For that reason, however, I think there might be something to the idea of multiple Naseems-- I feel sorry for whoever works third shift. That's pretty low on the jihad totem pole.

Cultural icons are most often only identifiable in hindsight, by the sum of their legacy. And even then, there's much whitewashing to be done of errors and human frailties-- nobody's perfect.

Screw the cultural icons (wait, never mind, didn't most everyone else at some point?). Everyone's too busy waiting for the next one they can copy, rather than making the best of themselves.

Don't let anyone tell you who your heroes should be. That carries the risk of winding up with the likes of Mohammed! ;)

Shinoliite, I just watched Khartoum for the umpteenth time. Are you saying that I must turn to George Clooney or Alec Baldwin or Ibrahim Hooper to find my new heros?

God bless America. That's all I gotta say. The word is that there's snow up north. I'm going sledding. Blowing through the snow at 40mph with Bald Eagles circling overhead, well, like I said, God bless America.

I can't tell you who your heroes should be, but if it's anyone other than Ibrahim Hooper (soon to be bought out by Apple and renamed the iHoop), you're doing something right.

My tastes lean more toward cartoons than Khartoum. Mentok the Mind-Taker is one of my heroes-- the passing resemblance to Robert Spencer is strictly coincidental.

Go to http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/
for video of the London rally. Make sure you have the sound on so you can hear the calls for blood and bombings.

All brought to you by the religion of peace.

And just think, there's hundreds of thousands more just like them. Living in every city near you. No matter what country you are in. And a billion more silently waiting for this group to act.

Pass the bourbon!

Make sure your skeptical friends watch it.

Reply to APF or, Are You Being Served?

Once you mentioned your check-writing ability you got my attention. I snapped to, just like generations of American presidents and cabinet members before me, just like George Bush with Prince Abdullah, or with those nice men from the United Arab Emirates who are our new "allies" in the "war on terror." Just like John Kerry scanning a room looking for potential donors. If you have indeed contributed in the past, did you nicely make out the check to me? You didn't? How silly of you. Well then, you were rewarding Jihad Watch, but not affecting me, and I'm on the most fixed of incomes. Should you be satisfied with the attention given to you at this posting -- Please Do Let Us Know If Service Has Been Satisfactory -- I will in the final paragraph tell you how to offer tangible evidence of your affection and esteem.

Now on to the question about who is Naseem and what is she, and why all the swine on your pig farm may adore her. This question seems to preoccupy you. But why? Why is it important? Who knows? At Jihad Watch opinions expressed by posters differ. Some think she is a man. Some think she is a composite, or rather that a number of different people post under the name "Naseem" from the same computer.

I think Naseem is probably what she describes herself as being, but I haven't paid too much attention. I think she is female, married, Ahmadiya, living in Pakistan. Worried about what will happen to the Ahmadiyyas at the hands of non-Ahmadiyya Muslims. Knows what real Muslims are all about, but cannot break with Islam. Just can't do it. Wild mood-swings -- sometimes triumphalist and malevolent, sometimes betraying real worry about what will happen to her and her family when the "real" Muslims start going after, as they do intermittently, the Adhmadiyyas for their Infidelity. Others at this site have theories that she is a mere composite, that she can't possibly vary so much in her confused mix of alarm for herself (from real Muslims), delight in crowing over the ultimate triumph of Islam (which apparently somehow comfrots her -- perhaps because she thinks then not merely she and other Ahmadiyyas, but the whole wide world, will share the pain and we will all be in this together). Take your pick. Make up your own theory. Why is she here? Why does she not disappear after a time like a number of trolls do, once we have let them have their telling, awkward, hysterical, crazed say? Well, because she is, in the opinion of the judges, a useful example. Not terrible. Not illiterate. But an example of someone whom, from the outside, might seem perfectly acceptable, a "moderate" rather than an "immmodate" Muslim, especially because of that "Ahmadiya" business. So here she is -- coeur mis a nu, for all of us to examine. I think it's worth it.

What was that other question? Oh, about the replacement cultural icon? You are yearning for A Man on a White Horse, to Defend Western Civilization, that sort of thing. I thought that went out with General Beranger. Okay, surely you want someone who has some idea of what Western civlization is to represent it? So when Lynn Cheney prates about high culture, and the loss of standards, andthen you discover that her idea of high literary culture is a trashy romance novel that she apparently had no qualms about writing in order to make a killing (this was before she, her husband, and her daughter now working for the government in charge of some department involved in "democratizing" the Middle East, you begin to think -- hmm, some of these Defenders of Western Civilization are really not quite so aware of what that Western Civilization is, are they? Is Bush? Do you think he has a good grasp, for example, of the political development of freedom? Do you think he understands how the Constitution came to be, or the Bill of Rights, or the Declaration of the Rights of Man? Think he's spent some time reading political theory, or admiring the Founding Fathers? Or do you suspect him of being merely a child of privilege, a big believer in the "global economy" and in the Free Market, as long as that Free Market can be interfered with whenever he thinks it should be, and must be fiercely protected whenever he and his friends think it works to their advantage?

That Man on the White Horse? I've been currying that white horse, and am happy to do the same with your favor. I'm ready to mount up and ride. To the tune of "Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Riding Through the Glen/Robin Hood, Robin Hood, and His Merry Men." Or possibly the William Tell Overture as immortalized by the Lone Ranger. Or did you have a particular tune in mind?

In fact, last week I was at a three-day eventing by way of training for my new career. I would have done much better had I been able to afford a new saddle -- and a new horse. Love to replace my 1992 model with something a bit newer and a bit safer -- something with side airbags. Preferably Japanese.

Send that check, inscribed carefully to me, and mail it to the same address to which you sent the previous one. It will be forwarded to me.

I will, at no additional cost, at some point send back to you the Secret of the Universe.

And that goes for anyone else reading this, with similar impulses to charitable giving, and an intelligent sense of the best bang for their buck, at this point in the history of the universe, and their country.

Or did you have a particular tune in mind?

Let me get my vote in early for the theme from the '70s cult classic, Shaft.

Since the blaxploitation genre has run its course, we could start a new genre of Fitzploitation movies.

Would this address work?

Michael Savage, as quoted by Alarmed Pork Farmer People just don’t understand Islam because it’s complicated I have read the history of Islam.

I heard a segment earlier than that, where he was talking about a Muslim organization that stated that most Imams belong in jail. Has anyone else heard about them, and have their credentials, or lack of them, been trashed out over here?

Also, the other thing Savage stated was that the majority of Muslims are peace loving, law abiding citizens. All that while he rails about the Trojan horse of the Dubai Port Authority, completely ignoring the fact that Muslim immigrants here - moderate and otherwise - are the greatest Trojan horses already available.

Borg-- no. Send an email to me via Robert, if you don't have the JW address.

Thank you Hugh for the kind words, that I make myself understood at all is minor miracle, but I do I get it .

Hugh, here is a recent experience, that has convinced me that dealing with Muslim dominated companies will effect our security.

At a US airport a group of hijab clad women approach security. They are dressed in black and appear as ghosts floating through the apprehensive crowds of "infidels", there face covered except for slits that show their eyes.

A representative of an Arab national airlines escorts them.

As they approach the checkpoint they present their passports, a minimum wage airport security worker looks a the picture in the passport to identify them and sees a picture of a face covered except for a slit and to eyes that are exposed.

She says anything and they proceed to a screening, they are handled with great care by someone who remembers the last sensitivity training class and the posters in the office describing the different Muslim head gear and how we must not offend.

The Arab airline official is there to observe and make sure no one is hassled. The security staff does their work with the knowledge of the trouble and hassle that befell the poor "over zealous" person that did a little to much last time, and the complaints from the his bosses and the airline.

No one dares make the Hijab clad woman remove her head gear, if they did it would be meaningless because her passport is useless for identification.

Who is she, well the Arab airline says who she is! The Arab country who issued her passports says who she is! Who is she?, no one will ever know. We must take their word for it,

They move through the terminal like scary fantasmas, and no one says anything.

Next a 90 year old grandmother enters the gate and a full security search takes place, no one says anything,

Meanwhile, on the drive to JFK a Saudi built mosque has been flying a giant black flag for days as "infidels" ignorant of its meaning pass by oblivious that these Muslims have declared Jihad to the societies that were so foolish to invite them in.

Then Bush does slaps the face of every victim of 911 by supporting the port deal.

No more thenever we need the truth comming from Jihadwatch.

Alarmed Pig Farmer-

Acting heroic has its uses. While Johnny Depp is a superb cinematic artist, his real life act is a jellyfish washout. I much prefer Willem Dafoe - especially his work in the surreal "making of the film 'Nosferatu'" movie "Shadow of the Vampire" or "Platoon" or "The Last Temptation of Christ" (much-maligned but a sublime tale that only deepens the meaning of Christ's sacrifice).

But none nowadays match the range of a Kirk Douglas- from "Ace in the Hole" (AKA "The Big Carnival") to "Paths of Glory" to "The Vikings" to "Spartacus" to "Seven Days In May" or Charlton Heston in "El Cid" and "The Warlord" and "Ben-Hur" and "Will Penny". Or even Jimmy Cagney in "Blood on the Sun". Or Spencer Tracy in "Fury". Not much gravitas left. Or native idealism and dogged defense of our own profound culture.

The 'heroic', in reality, though, is embodied more in people like Colin Wilson (a British writer who's books "Slouching Toward Bethlehem- a study of Charlatan Messiahs" and "Mysteries" are both worth a read), or Orianna "The Rage and The Pride" Fallaci, or Hirsi "Submission- Part One" Ali, or the late, lamented, and savagely sardonic Theo Van Gogh.

On screen, or in the musical arts, it is suspiciously slim pickins lately. Musicians with "voices" are all still fighting the wrong war, as if the innocent Vietnamese peasantry are being napalmed forever and ever. They are all lyrically kicking the tame dog of the Western World ("imperialist America" or the "evil, racist" George "Nazi" Bush... ho-hum...), too afraid to speak up against the real danger of killer Muslo-pit bulls (have you heard one cutting edge ([sic]songwriter even say a word about people having their heads sliced off and shown on the internet by terrorist lunatics?... you'd think a striking image and inhuman outrage like this might raise some kind of notice ...but not a peep from the "radical", avante garde, progressive voices).

Only 12 obscure Danish cartoonists are bucking that nearly universal chickensh*t trend of silence and imagelessness.

And they are deserving of our honor.

I raise a Carlberg and say:

"To the future maker of the film version of Voltaire's 'Mohammed- or Fanaticism'!"

(I think George Clooney would be perfect for the title role.)

I'd be glad to guard any theater showing it -with a 12 guage.

And it may come to that.

infidel~ You need your crystal ball-Mr. Robert Spencer's books. All your questions will be answered and things will suddenly be clear. And then, you too, can join the rest of us screaming at the tv that the talking heads just don't "get it".

If you choose the assignment be prepared to be called a right winger and all sorts of other unsavory words as you try to enlighten others further.

Dear Hugh (and friends),

Aren't "Allies of convenience" some sort of redundancy? Like, duh?

All of this tempest in a teapot has struck me as particularly historically naive.

Oh, I must be much older than 98. Or maybe I'm really much younger. I forget. Posted by: Hugh

I sure wish I look that young if and when I'm 98.

http://www.hughfitzgerald.com/

I normally wouldn't credit any movies or actors for this site. They are only for entertainment normally. After all, it is all fake. But some do try to make a point. These "tried" ~ The Seige (interesting that is was made in 1998), and that London story, ~Dirty War. I'm not recommending them in particular but they are interesting in that they were made before CAIR got it's grip. But they still have the requsite helpful muslim that we all hope is out there.
The book ~Sum of All Fears (not the movie which was altered). Since 9/11 movies seem to need CAIR's pre-approval.
And of course "24" with it's disclaimer's and "fighting-on-our-side" shop keepers.

And El Cid~ that's what the terror watch list is supposed to address. Of course with 350,000 names and growing... so bio-passports are next,.. Not that anything would stop an Egyptian pilot or any other middle eastern pilot... if you see one make sure he doesn't have his "marriage whites" on...
Have you heard the song that our very own Catherine keeps linking to? ~"" Strangers on Our Flight? ""
I heard it on the internet/talk radio yesterday. I think Sinatra would be proud.

Strangers on my flight,
turbans they're packin'.
Wonderin' if they might,
plan a hijacking.
They could pull a stunt,
before this flight is through.

Something's on their minds.
I saw them mutter.
What that in their hands?
Looks like box cutters,
I'm gonna kick some ass,
if they make a move.

Strangers on my flight.
Two smelly people,
and they're not talking right;
and in a moment,
I will grab a baseball bat;
and that will be that.
Swing like Joe DiMaggio,
and rip them both a new a-hole.

And if they pick a fight,
and try to screw us,
I'll punch out their lights,
just like Joe Louis.
It would feel so right,
for strangers on my flight.

Ratta Tat Tat Tat,
Budda Bing Bang Boom,
Zooma Zooma Zoom.

Send those bastards to the moon....

...something to hum the next time you're at the airport..

Infidel~ that young model is going to wonder why he suddenly gets 500,000 hits on his website ..but no job offers...

Mr. Fitz-

As fer meself, when I'm an old buzzard, I will probably get Irish Alzheimer's and forget everybody but me enemies. Runs in the family....

Come to think of it lad, I can't think of anything but them Jihoggies-they look like Gremlins from that movie that I can't remember....

Off Topic...

When I was young, I had a conversation with a man who, when he was young, had a conversation with a lady who, when she was young, was a nurse on the battlefield during the Civil War. I still carry the mental images from that talk. It was a good Harvest of second hand information about the War, and compliment to what I have learned from my old history books, many of which were published prior to WWII.

Motor on.
Mr Jones

Bush has proven himself to be a closet Muslim. How could he sell our ports to those scum-sucking terrorists if he was not a Muslim? Face it--the war on terror is just a big ploy to take all the money that hard working Americans give to Uncle Sam and send it to Bin Laden! Yeah, he pretends to be fighting a war, but if any american soldier actually does their job and shoots a terrorist they get tried for murder and either put to death or court-marshelled, or both. The war in Iraq is just Mohammed Bush's way of sending our money to Saudia Arabia and Dubai to fund more terrorism! Our soldiers over there are not fighting for America--they're fighting for the Emirs and the house of Sa'ud.
