ANYONE who believes Islamic sharia law can co-exist with Australian law should move to a country where they feel more comfortable, Treasurer Peter Costello said today.All Australian citizens must adhere to the framework in society which maintains tolerance and protects the rights and liberties of all, he said. It is a pre-condition for citizenship of Australia.
Mr Costello was giving a speech on the meaning of Australian citizenship to the Sydney Institute."There is one law we are all expected to abide by," Mr Costello said.
"It is the law enacted by the Parliament under the Australian Constitution.
"If you can't accept that, then you don't accept the fundamentals of what Australia is and what it stands for."

Good for this guy! I really love those nonconformist Australians. As a nonconforming American, I've always had a soft spot for them.
One thing though. The word, "tolerance," needs to be eradicated from our collective vocabulary. Many people confuse it with loving their neighbor when it too often means, "I will bend over and pick up the soap. Please feel free to have at me."

I believe we should show tolerance towards islam and muslims. We should show exactly as much tolerance as they are showing towards Israel, Freedom of expression and basic human rights.
Tolerance only works if its a two-way street, and we have already gone way too far in our tolerance without getting any in return.
I think Treasurer Costello made the right call but talk is cheap. Unless they start to deport anyone advocating sharia he can complain all he wants. I see claims of we/want need sharia to mean we are taking over, which with my limited education means treason. You can’t scream fire in a crowded theater and you can’t make threat to the president, so freedom of speech does have limits. That said, why not charge anyone advocating changing the entire political system through force, intimidation and the like with a crime? As an American, I readily bought into the send me your huddled mass mentality. I am older now perhaps no wiser but I’d like to see a qualifier of “if you see things our way and want to be like us”. Before I get called racist (again) I’d like to point out, I personally would never consider going to another country and demanding they conform to my wishes. I feel Australia’s pain we are going to have the same problems here in the states. The US and the Aussies will have problems with the libs claiming we can’t send them back because they will be in danger. Valid argument in some cases, to which I say, they should have considered the price before they opened their mouths and if the libs still protest I will spring for a ticket to escort them home safely (one way).

Although elsewhere in the Koran Allah tells Muslims to live in the land of infidels to try and establish worship of Allah, apparently the above verse makes it clear that, if full free worship of Allah (which entails a lot) is not possible, Muslims should move to where they can practice Islam fully (i.e., sharia).
No special accommodation of Islamists, that's the ticket, a one-way ticket.
The only reason our politicians in Australia are making these statements, without any fear or reservation, is because we haven't been fully dhimmified just yet. Once we have a few RoP homicide bombers make their political point, no doubt our leaders will become as compliant as any Euro-dhimmy leader out there, kissing up to the 'moderate' cult leaders and working on ways to reform our liberal democracy more to their liking. At that point we'll be well on our way to becoming a Muslim nation like the UK or France.
I will say though, if we had an organisation like the EU down here, I'm sure we'd have full sharia law by now.

What will they do then? It's well along the way in Europe and it's just starting in the USA. We in the West are pandering to the desires of a dark ages, tribal cult. Laws are being passed to prohibit any criticism of Islam even though criticism of Christianity and Judaism has a long history in Western culture.
How do I know these things? I live in the largest town (in Michigan) for Muslims in the USA, I've lived with these people all my life. Muslims do not assimilate; they convert and transform your community/culture to their own culture. Restricting their immigration is the only practical solution.

Pet Costello's candor is refreshing.

If Costello does nothing else, he should at least arrest and deport that viper Keyser Trad. He should be free to practice his taqqiya in a more 'comfortable' environment, like Baghdad or Tehran.

All the usual moslem spokesmen have been shrieking for the Prime Minister John Howard to censure Peter Costello but Howard said he fully supports Costello's view. Just heard keyser trad (a typical smarmy moslem spokesman) on a talkback radio show, he told all the usual lies, I e-mailed the host and let him know.
Must be time differences, but just recently saw and also sent in the article about Mr Costello. I am an Aussie and am thrilled that both he and the Prime Minister have spoken out this way. We are a multicultural country but islam cannot be accomodated here by the look of things.There are too many irreconcilable differences.Intolerance is the biggest one!
Of course the local muslim community and lefties are saying this is divisive and "bad". Maybe,,but it is the truth, plain and simple!

There's nothing in there about sharia or there being "two laws", as that Benbrika and other Muslims claim. Chinese immigrants don't pine for communist laws here. So if anyone states there are two laws, or that they have a problem with Australian law, and have taken out citizenship, then it's quite clear. They lied. Therefore their Aussie citizenship should be stripped.
I applaud Costello and Howard. They keep this issue in the forefront, where it needs to be. They have the support of the vast majority of Australians, yet I wonder what State Labor MPs have to say? Morris Iemma, Premier of NSW and member for the predominantly Muslim electorate of Lakemba - what do you have to say?

Respectfully, I think you'd do well to rethink the above. Your politicians are serving you when they honor Aussie audaciousness! Their plainspoken truthfulness is a dhimmitude preventative.
One can only wonder what may have (not) happened here if after the first WTC bombing (February 26, 1993) ANYONE dared to call Islam on their Grand Plan to Caliphate the world. The plan was no more secret then than now.
