This just in from the Islamic Republic of Canada: "UPEI snatches newspapers with Muhammad cartoons," from The Guardian, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
The controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that have incited worldwide violent protests are now causing a stir at the University of Prince Edward Island. The student newspaper, The UPEI Cadre, chose to run the cartoons in its most recent edition fresh off the press. UPEI moved quickly Wednesday to stop the paper from being distributed on campus.
“When we realized that they were in circulation, we acted to round up the copies that were in circulation,’’ said UPEI president Wade MacLauchlan.
“We see it as a reckless invitation to public disorder and humiliation.’’
Khaled Meshaal or Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah couldn't have said it better.
Ray Keating, editor of The Cadre, said he was disappointed by what he views as censorship by the university.“I see this as an issue of freedom of expression and freedom of the press,’’ he said in an interview.
Keating said the university doesn’t have control over the editorial content of the student newspaper.
“We are the student press,’’ he said.
Keating said campus police entered his office Wednesday and demanded that he hand over all copies of the newspaper. He refused.
About 2,000 copies of the newspaper, containing 12 of the controversial cartoons, were printed.

This is not in the spirit of Anne of Green Gables!
“We see it as a reckless invitation to public disorder and humiliation,’’ said the University's president.
Public disorder on PEI? This would be interesting to see on this small island of green fields and wide beaches. Rioting lobster fishermen? Potato farmers torching newspaper offices?
Humiliation? Of whom? There is probably a Muslim student population there, but wouldn't they want to see these cartoons as well? Are they not learning in that university setting that the truth of a matter can't be decided until all the facts are in?
The University's president may find that censorship may also bring public disorder when those who find their views censored feel humiliated -- he's wielding a two-edged sword here.
No scope for imagination here.
The beginning, but certainly not the end. What next, no photos of the volleyball tournament because the female players are wearing shorts?
Of COURSE its a reckless invitation to public disorder; you cant so much as mention islam without someone burning down a building or chopping off a head.
Remember, showing cartoons which depict muslims as unhinged and violent will only cause muslims to become unhinged and violent. Life imitates art.
This is no surprise. Unlike the US, Canada does not guarantee freedom of speech. Instead, we have hate crime legislation, one effect of which is to ban hate speech. Well, exceptions, of course, being made for Muslims. Read about the violent protests in Montreal when Bibi Netanyahu was scheduled to speak to a student group. Not only were placards carried, Israeli flags were burned and Jewish students had excrement and urine thrown on them, and the Muslim mob kicked and punched the students as well. I guess that freedom of speech is all relative.
"This just in from the Islamic Republic of Canada:"
A much-deserved lampoon of Canadian government, media, and many institutions. Not generally applicable to the general population, who are angry with the censorship, but, otherwise, deserved. Although most media in the Anglosphere is hopelessly PC, Canada's is probably the worst.
Here is an example of a philosophy prof at a Canadian university (Saint Mary's, in Halifax) who has refused to apologize for posting the cartoons on his office door. He was forced to take them down. But now he plans to discuss them in class. http://www.cbc.ca/ns/story/ns-morecartoons20060209.html
Otherwise, we have not seen much here in Canada the way of defence of freedom of speech.
Per LGF, the University of Illinois' student paper has published the cartoons in question. Google it, the paper is called the Illini or something.
More important, off topic, but connected: has anyone read the article by Amir Taheri on Opinionjournal? http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110007934
In it he tells the world that humourous jabs at Islam are permitted; he notes:
The truth is that Islam has always had a sense of humor and has never called for chopping heads as the answer to satirists. Muhammad himself pardoned a famous Meccan poet who had lampooned him for more than a decade.
Of course, he omits the murder of the woman who riduculed him. Also note the implication of the word "pardon" in his text above. That means it was some sort of crime, wasn't it?
More whitewashing. Not unexpected, though; Taheri's a muslim. Muslims have a veil placed over their hearts that prevents them from showing the wrong in their own religion when speaking about it to non-muslims (I've shamelessly stolen the "veiled heart" metaphor from the Qur'an, which describes the very same veil as the one that prevents staunch infidels from "seeing the light").
One day after hosting a conference for the terrorist-enabling Palestinian Solidarity Movement in 2004, the Duke University newpaper, The Chronicle, published a vile, anti-Semitic article by Philip Kurian entitled, "The Jews". An excerpt:
What Jewish suffering — along with exorbitant Jewish privilege in the United States — amounts to is a stilted, one-dimensional conversation where Jews feel the overwhelming sense of entitlement not to be criticized or offended
The article drew a strong response in the form of letters to the editor from those who clearly take issue with the notion that Jews enjoy any special privilege in America -- other than what they earn through intelligence and hard work.
Having welcomed known anti-Semitic agitators onto its campus, how did the Duke administration react when the aftereffects of the agitation began to play themselves out before its eyes?
Responding to Mr. Kurian's article in a letter to the Chronicle, President Brodhead first condemned the "virulence" of some of the PSM's critics. He then pronounced himself "deeply troubled" by Kurian's sentiments, while offering assurances that Mr. Kurian "probably did not mean to . . . [revive] stereotypical images that have played a long-running role in the history of anti-Semitism." Reverting to his by now standard mantra, Mr. Brodhead stressed again that the central issue was the importance of "education through dialogue." "I am grateful," he wrote, "to the many individuals and groups who helped turn last week's Palestine Solidarity Movement conference into a peaceful and constructive event" and "proud to be at a school where difficult matters are dealt with in such a mature and constructive way."*
Note that there was no censorship by university officials or newspaper editors of an admittedly anti-Semitic article because they knew that however offensive the material, there would be no violent backlash, no threats made against the university or its staff, no riots.
Will Duke likewise demonstrate its commitment to "education through dialogue" by publishing the Mohammad cartoons in their newspaper and inviting reader replies?

Any legal experts out there who have any idea of whether the informal "ban" on publication of the cartoons is legal? And what about showing the cartoons--does this truly violate hate laws? As for the second question, this does not even appear to be true in Canada--the pictures can be shown. PC mentality (plus fear of being killed!)appears to be the only thing keeping the informal ban in place. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms does allow offensive expressions if these are made in the pursuit of truth/knowledge. It doesn't seem to me that showing the cartoons would actually be illegal, just against PC prejudices and Islamic law.
If there is anything positive about this incident it's that the student body is apparently way out in front of the timid administration. One can hope for the future.
FWIW - I posted this story in the comments two days ago.
How much you wanna bet that if the colladge paper had printed a photo of "Piss Christ" or cartoons that blasphemed Christianity, that UPEI president Wade MacLauchlan would have told any Christians who objected that he was against censorship?
The students should find a private sponsor to reprint the paper and mail it to every student at UPEI.
Students should also make flyers and posters of these cartoons and plaster them all over campus as a protest against this censorship.
Actually, flyers and posters of the most "offensive" of the toons should be plastered everywhere in the Americas, Europe, and Australasia, especially neer Mosques, Islamic Centers and halal markets. Fight intimidation with more freedom.
Peter McKay (Canadian foreign affairs) has stepped up to the plate declaring - amongst other crap along these lines - that Canada must do more to support understanding of Islam internationally. This is baffling. Shouldn't Canada be doing more internationally to acquaint Islam with Canadian values? Aren't Canadians always bragging about "Canadian values" at home and to the US? Since when did the Islamo-fascist mullahs tell Canada what values it should be promoting internationally? The real problem we have with Islam today is that its most prominent and seemingly most influential faction is stuck back in 1759 or thereabouts when crazy Sheik Wahhab started running off at his ecclesiastical mouth. There's not much wrong with Canadian values, unless one of them happens to be cowardice. Just what do Canadians have to be apologetic for? Hand-in-hand with this unfortunate signal sent abroad we learn the Canadian police are raiding professor March's offices in Halifax looking for cartoons and other evidence the good professor might have an opinion the mullahs would disagree with. What are they going to do? Charge him with offences under Islamic law? Will Canada bring back the guillotine to satisfy Middle East demands for death penalties against blasphemers?
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Canadians hide in the bushes.

I'm willing to bet that edition just became the hottest item on campus. Hopefully some defiant anti-dhimmis will make copies and post them in their dorm windows.
again we see a double standard, what is good to print against the Jews and Christians and other non muslilms, is not printable against muslims. we see a rather pitaful explanaiton of why these cartoons are taken off the press..fortunately most people who have been ignorant of the rants of these islamafacists thugs are now seeing for themselves the real uglyness of their cult of deaht!
“We see it [the publication of the cartoons] as a reckless invitation to public disorder and humiliation.’’
-- Wade MacLauchlan, President of the University of Prince Edward Island
Wade MacLauchlan needs a refresher course in freedom of speech. He needs to read Milton's Areopagitica. He needs to learn about John Peter Zenger. He needs read "Freedom of the Mind in Human History." He needs to understand that a recognized right which can no longer be exercised out of fear of a violent response by those who not only claim to be offended, but do not recognize such a general right in their own, quite different world, a world where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has no place, is a right that no longer exists. This was understood, clearly, by the editors of Jyllands-Posten, and by Prime Minister Rasmussen, and by those editors, the un-pusillanimous ones, who in 40 countries so far have chosen to reprint those anodyne cartoons. Wade MacLauchlan needs to understand that the right of free speech not only includes the right to offend, but is defined precisely by its protection of the very possibility. That is the point. The point is not to protect that which offends no one (for who would object?) but taht which offends someone. Of course, the deliberate incitement to murder, or the denial of historical facts, have been banned in certain Western countries (in Germany, for example, Nazi publications either denying past mass-murders, or justifying future ones -- which apparently Mr. Ahmadinejad and many Muslims are unable to distinguish from mockery of religious symbols or figures).
In placid Charlottetown, in 1854 or so, distiniguished representatives of various parts of Canada came together to sign the Confederation that lead to the establishment of the Dominion of Canada. They would almost certainly all have been familiar with the work of the celebrated English political thinker, John Stuart Mill, and with his essay "On Liberty" that remains a staple, and should, of college curricula in the English-speaking world. And perhaps there needs to be engraven, not only on one of those stately college buildings at the University of Prince Edward Island, but in the mind of its current president, Ward MacLauchlan, these words from that essay:
"Strange it is, that men should admit the validity of the arguments for free discussion, but object to their being 'pushed to an extreme'; not seeing that unless the reasons are good for an extreme case, they are not good for any case."
Usually one complains of the students, of their shallowness, of their illiteracy, of their inability to appreciate something now called, as if it were merely a course title, "Western Civ." But in this case, at least, it is the student editors of a student publication who have put at least one of their elders to shame -- not to mention the complacent, uncomprehending editors of The New Duranty Times, and so many others in the Western world, who have failed the test.
Still, there may be the possibility of a make-up exam for those who want to take that test ubin Western Civ over again.
And this time, they promise that they will study for it just a bit harder.
I sent this to the college...
Hello
I would like to thank you for removing those awful cartoons from the campus. I am glad that you understand that these cartoons are offensive and that you are not allowed to offend me and my Muslim brothers.
This brings me to another subject, although somewhat related. I have noticed that many of the woman on campus are allowed to wear very short skirts and other type of clothing that is very offensive to the Muslim religion.
Since you understand the sinful nature of the cartoons, I would like to see UPEI develop a dress code for the female students that would be in line with Islamic law.
You are already moving in the right direction, I don't think this request would be very difficult for you to put into action.
Walter Osama Al-Newton
Walter in Golden, Co.
Walter in Denver makes a good point usually overlooked. While the cartoons are the issue of the moment no one really knows all the things liable to offend Islamo-fascists. It could be almost anything: women with uncovered faces, liquor ads, Christmas greetings (I was once severely threatened by a Muslim employee for wishing her "Merry Christmas" - quite inadvertently I assure you). It's almost as if we need a rule book to carry with us or risk calls for our beheading. A university of Toronto (also in Canada) professor recently went public with the advice we should cease at once producing movies depicting women holding professional positions or in any roles where they are peers of men. He said this is "extremely offensive" to Muslims and we are inciting violence with these productions. There's no end to this nonsense if we don't stand up to it. But don't expect much from Canada. The country is afraid of its own shadow.

"The real problem we have with Islam today is that its most prominent and seemingly most influential faction is stuck back in 1759 or thereabouts when crazy Sheik Wahhab started running off at his ecclesiastical mouth."
The real problem today is that Islamists of all stripes everywhere are reading their Korans, listening to their imams, and following them. Wahhab was a moderate compared to Mohammad and the early caliphs.
Hugh, the student's group at UPEI is brave, but student's groups at places like Concordia or York probably have a lot more to fear--Muslims there would riot. Even in Halifax (St. Mary's U., the Muslims are harrassing the philosophy prof who posted the cartoons on his office door, and they did threaten him. He has contacted the police).
Opps! Sorry Walter - I should have said "Golden".

You mat very well be right and I will not attempt a comeback;-) I have a few Muslim friends and formerly some employees - the sort of people quick to denounce the kind of thing going on these days - so am bending over backwards to interpret events in a way that might encourage "moderates" to come forward and do something (so far they have not, which causes me grave concern and which reinforces your point).
So, I admit to gradually losing the faith when it comes to separating Islamo-fascism from what apologists for the religion claim about it ("religion of peace, tolerance" etc.). Even so, I hold back just a little the "tar them all" brush - for now.

In canada, Anti-Islamic feelings are increasing amoung the general public, the students of schools and univercities. It is wrong to brand Canada as Islamic Republic,as still we have only 2 percent of Muslims (in spite of the breast-beating propaganda that Islam is the fastest growing in Canada). One of the leading News paper of Canada is heavily greased by the Saudi money, and they print only pro-islamic writings . They publish only the achievements of Muslims in Canada, and a so called Islamic journalist, who writes for that paper always criticise Americans,Christians, and the Jews, and he has been awarded the 'Oreder of Canada'!. But,Canada is not the old, Muslim friendly Canada now. Every where, you can see the change, and open hatred towards them.

This post by the Egyptian blogger (I assume he's Egyptian) should bring tears of joy to your eyes. A big voice told him the 10 Commandments one night - here are some of them. Read the rest:
1.Thou shall not have westophobia. The west is not plotting against Islam, they don’t give a hoot about your religion nor the religion of this old Hindu man walking in downtown Calcutta, India. The West is busy with far more important things.
2.Thou shall remember that millions of Muslims in Europe have far more rights than non-Muslims in Arab/Muslim lands (for more info, contact the Christian villagers of el-Udaysaat) So quit playing the victim here. I simply don’t buy it.
5.Thou shall riot and protest when Muslims kill other Muslims (for more info, contact the Shia families of Iraq and Darfur Sudanese)
7.Thou shall NOT riot over cartoons published 4 months ago. Try to riot over cartoons published 2 months ago. At least it might make more sense that way.
9.Thou shall incorporate the values of liberal democracy. The Catholics of Italy, the Anglicans of England, the Buddhists of Korea, and the Shintos of Japan have done so. I don’t see a reason why you can’t do so as well.

>>In canada, Anti-Islamic feelings are increasing amoung the general public, the students of schools and universities. It is wrong to brand Canada as Islamic Republic,as still we have only 2 percent of Muslims
I am sure these comments are offered only as satire to make a point. What encourages this sort of satire is events like the following:
Police raiding university offices to confiscate satircal cartoons which do not violate Canadian law. How can this happen in a country subject to rule-of-law?
The near-approval of Sharia law in Ontario last year, as an alternative to Canadian law for Muslims.
A parade in downtown Calgary (which I witnessed) by Mulisms a couple of years ago screaming "death to all Jews" but the police refused making arrests under anti-hate legislation because they said this might only encourage more violence. Evidently, in Canada, if your hatred extends to threatening violence the authorities will step back in fear.
Recent recommendation by Canadian foreign minister Canada should work to promote understanding of Islam abroad. Shouldn't he be saying "promote understanding of Canadian values within the Muslim world?"
All these things suggest a bowing down before the threat of violence and proof of cowardice. Terms such as "Islamic Republic" or Khanuckistan" in reference to Canadian behaviour rather easily come to mind.

Walter,

Muslims are demanding respect; they fail to understand that respect has to be earned. They cannot enforce their archaic demonology on the rest of us.
Islam is not a sensitive religion. It is a fanatical, intolerant, faith that will allow no criticism. It will, however, allow itself the freedom to protest, hurt, insult, incite, maim, behead, and blow up, anyone who speaks up against them. They are entitled to offend and kill Jews and Christians in the name of their faith by divine right.
It is time for Muslims to take a hard look at themselves in the mirror.

Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
I saw on the TV that there is a show now with a woman host. This is not very bad by itself because the woman was dressed in accordance with the laws of Islam and did not expose herself and inflame the lust of any male guests. However, this woman was having a talk with guests and things got a bit out of control when the woman host said "no, I don't think so" to one of the guests. I was so mad I told my wife to drown herself in the bathtub while I finished watching the show. Then, later in the show, the host says "you are wrong" to a doctor! I could not believe it!
Please see if you could beat this woman with a chain and I thank you in advance.
Inshallah Muslim Man Complaint Box,
My child was drawing pictures for school and this is forbidden. What makes the situation worse is that the picture was of our whole family and also blessed Mohammad. It was not a very clear picture of Mohammad and I think his likeness would be considered obscured by the scriptures. Just to be sure I hanged my son and burned his body and then my brothers burned the school and also hanged the teacher. What I want to know is what can be done about the ability to draw? Any child can go about creating blasphemous rendering of Mohammad! This is lightning in the hands of the unprotected. My son is in the afterlife now because of these crayons and "construction" paper, which I say is "destruction" paper. That is a little joke, but I am not laughing. Something must be done.
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
This is a complaint in general about women these days. Things are getting out of control with the influences of the West and they are more willing than ever to speak their minds. Yesterday I thought I heard a woman whisper "Ally McBeal" in a marketplace to another woman and then their heads turned to each other like they might be making eye-contact through the mesh screens hiding their eyes. I do not know if anything can be done about this, but I would like to find myself a good Muslim wife.
Also death to America, death to Israel, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
I am a devoted Muslim man living in the heart of the beast. I live within the Jew-cursed border of the state of Jew Jewrsey in Jewmerica and I am very unhappy. The other day I heard an American man say that Islam is not a religion of peace. This is intolerable and doubly so when the laws of America prevent me from cutting out his tongue, setting fire to his house and taking his wife as my own. I demand that something be done about this and also death to Israel.
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
I am a devoted follower of the Prophet Mohammed living in the occupied land of Iraq. I am not an insurgent, I am just an honest man trying to live my life. There is an American by the name of Pete Reynolds who sometimes buys baklava from my shop and he is very nice. The problem is I found out a few weeks ago that he was an atheist when I was talking to him. I know it is my duty to kill all infidels, but I was wondering if exceptions could possibly be made if the infidels are particularly friendly. Perhaps I could simply wound the infidels or hurt their feelings very badly. He was fat as all decadent Westerners usually are and I think maybe I could have made some rude comments about that to him and he might have even killed himself. Anyway, no biggie, he was beheaded a couple days ago when the United States refused to release Jalal "The Red Hand of Allah" Al Harami. Get back to me when you get a chance.
PS - Death to Israel
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
Hey, I don't know if you noticed, but my entire family lives in a fucking bomb crater eating leaves all day. I know Death to Israel, Death to America and all that but do you think you could take a look at installing a floor in my crater or something? I'm on your side, I'm Muslim, I just think we need to prioritize better. Maybe ease back on the "death to X" stuff and look into paved roads and running water. When I can afford to buy a car I promise to load the trunk full of fertilizer and drive it into a Jewish wedding. Let's just get me to the "buy a car" part first.
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
Waddup mah G-had niggaz. I'm ridin' high in U to the A to the E and I just wanna kno what a nigga can do to drop dem bombs on tha club. My main Mullah nigga MC Ishuan got hot tracks like napalm and he be wantin' to roll on up with some OBL samples but a nigga be livin in caves and shit. Get me tha GPS and I'll send tha stretch hummer out to pick his ass up. Hit me up on my blackberry and it's on like Alizzy Jizzyerizzy.
D2A, D2I, TTYL
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
I like cowboys and I think that means I have to cut my hands off. That kind of sucks.
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
My daughter was raped by my neighbor and we burned her alive because she was tainted. My issue is that I think I should be able to rape his daughter back instead of having to burn my perfectly good daughter. So she was raped, so what? All of her parts still worked. She could still cook a meal. She could still find a good husband. She could still catch a beating like a net. I think this situation is unfair.
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
the offensive against Christmas in the United States is stalling. Our enemies at Fox News have caught on to our plans and they are hunting down our operatives. Just last week Yasser was caught by the pig dogs trying to set fire to a Holiday Store in the McCormick Mall. Their nativities are multiplying unchecked! Please send reinforcements!
Also if there are any openings I would like to request a transfer to the Death to Israel division. This is pretty much a BS job.
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
Megadittos! Hey, I was just wondering if you could look into moving Sunnis out of the "fidel" category and over to the "infidel" one. I think they are collaborating with the West because I saw one talking to a Russian who I don't think was Muslim and he also didn't look overly serious about killing Israel. Just look into it when you get a chance.
Dear Muslim Man Complaint Box,
I am displeased with the way that Shi'ites drive because they drive one way and we Sunnis drive a completely different way.
Desperately Seeking Fatwah in Damascus
So what is so wrong with a University, which is the crucible for the free marketplace of ideas, seizing the student newspaper? After all, Hitler did it, and wasn't he also a kind gentle man who bounced kids on his lap, flirted with Eva and played with his dogs?
I like talking about my gay and Jewish friends in front of Muslims. Condemn homophobic and anti-semitic bigots, that type of thing.
Some wince openly; which is nice to see.
Now if only I had a gay Jewish friend..... :-)
nomoto,
"so am bending over backwards to interpret events in a way that might encourage "moderates" to come forward and do something"
I agree. The fact is, there are some moderates. It remains a difficult-to-define category. There are also a lot of misunderstandings that occur in these threads because of general use of the term Muslim, as though it implies "all Muslims." One way around this is to use "Islamist" to mean hard-liner, sharia-supporter, fan of jihad, etc.
rafia,
"One of the leading News paper of Canada is heavily greased by the Saudi money, and they print only pro-islamic writings."
Toronto Star?
rafia,
"...he has been awarded the 'Oreder of Canada'!"
Another question: Was the (pro-Islamist) recipient Haroon Siddiqui?
Whoever it may be, the award has been devalued, over the past decade at least, because they give it to just about anybody for anything.
BTW, I have heard that, before this cartoon fury became big news, there had been at least one major newspaper in Ontario, Canada that published the cartoons, and I also believe that a newspaper in Quebec published them. Anyone have any info on that?
Only in totalitarian regimes.
@ Archimedes: Le Devoir published 1 cartoon on Feb. 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_newspapers_that_reprinted_Jyllands-Posten%27s_Muhammad_cartoons).
Canada had a good example to follow in the U.S. Bill of Rights, but they knew better than those dumb crackers south of the border. ("First Amendment! We don't need no stinkin' First Amendment!")
Now they'll have to live in the short-sheeted bed they've made for themselves (Procrustes would be proud):
Schools worrying more about upsetting terrorists than exposing them.
I guess the balls are in their courts.
(Cos they're sure not in their shorts.)
rafia said:
"It is wrong to brand Canada as Islamic Republic..."
So rafia, please explain the street signs in Arabic in some neighbourhoods in my city? And how about the grocery store here which caved to Muslim complaints and removed all pork products from the meat cooler and has placed them in a small separate cooler? How about being able to buy halal meat in all of the major grocery stores? Or that most pizza places now serve pizza sans pork using only halal meats? I won't even mention that our downtown has five hookah cafes. Or the spraypainting of Danish cheese in my local greengrocer's store. Or the gangs of Muslim who have made my local park unsafe for my my children and other Jewish kids.
It sure sounds like the Islamic Republic of Canada to me.
highbg, thanks, I'll have a look at that list.
Here's another brave paper in Canada, though these examples are still rare exceptions to the general unofficial ban...
http://www.edmontonsun.com/News/Alberta/2006/02/11/1436966-sun.html
"the Jewish Free Press - an independent Calgary paper - reprinted three of the cartoons in its Thursday edition alongside paintings of the prophet in human form found in books and museums. The paper also printed in the edition anti-Semitic cartoons thought to have been produced by Muslims in past years."
At The Belmont Club:
"They are trying to bring us dhimminitude; we are trying to bring them democracy. So far it seems a toss up."
Libbysmom: You mentioned that "Jewish students had excrement and urine thrown on them" during a demonstration in Montreal.
I met a young man on leave from the army a few years ago. He was the son of a local law enforcement officer I know well. This young man had been assigned to the unit that flew some of the detainees from Afghanistan to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He described how the detainees were chained along the insides of the aircraft. Even though chained, they would defecate in their pants, and reach in with one hand to pick out the feces. They would wait until a guard came close and then throw the feces on the guard.
I have heard that they continued to do the same thing in Gitmo. They added a special greeting for our female soldiers. They would masturbate to ejaculation, and use that. I only heard one reference to this technique in the MSM. It was quickly pulled, as I suppose it was too gross.
Anyway, that is evidently how the muslims display their dignity and honor. It is a fitting reflection on their religion. Too bad they can't be beaten senseless for crap like that. A little Texas street justice would stop that shit real quik.
Archimedes, here's an acid test for consideration:
Rule No. 1: If a muslim publishes the cartoons, that's OK.
Rule No. 2: If a non-muslim publishes the cartoons, that's NOT OK.
Rule No. 3: If you object to the distinction drawn in application of the Rules, then you are being discriminatory, insensitive, and hateful, and, therefore, your opinion does not count.
If these Rules seem to apply to the facts at hand, then I believe you do not really have Freedom of Speech, or Freedom of the Press, and you will quickly lose the rest of your rights, too.
Sorry for the bad news. If you see a way through this rapidly closing window, I surely would like to know. From my reading of life in Hitler's Germany, this is basically "How it Happened There" and, naturally, there will be lots of variations in "How it Happens Here."
I had a professor in first year law who delivered the most profound and beautiful lecture on the last day of his class. In urging us to always work to preserve our heritage of freedom he stated: "The law has already failed once in this century. It failed in Nazi Germany. And the lawyers helped it fail. You have a responsibility. Don't let that happen here." I weep for all of us when I see what is happening.
Lisa,
And he was a vegetarian, too. And an artist.
