Harper needs to capture the muslim vote in Ontario, which currently belongs to the Liberals.
He's being what he is, a politican who has a weak minority government and not much time before another election is called. He better start doing more popular things however, like fullfill his election promises, like scrap the gun registry. So far all he's been doing is feeding himself to the liberal media.
I'm disappointed in Harper on this issue of free speech versus Islamic blasphemy law. As a conservative, Harper had been pegged with being intolerant by the CBC here, even though there is no evidence that he is. So Harper has to do everything he can to make his party appear open and tolerant. If he came out in favour of free speech, the media would be claiming he was racist, bigotted, etc. He is in a similar situation as G. W. Bush and most western politicians. Even Rasmussen has given some lip service to "respect" of Islam. Frankly, I'm getting very sick of the whole charade. Do these guys really think that anyone respects a religion whose members riot over cartoons?
I thought with the election of Harper that the dimmitude of Canada would change, but it appears I was wrong.
This sickens me, but does not in any way surprise me. Mr. Harper is not up on his spiritual warfare. The concept of dhimmitude is lost on him and it does not appear that any of the other leaders are prepared to take up the fight either. Here is a link, from the CBC:

This is one of the reasons why I left Canada many years ago, in order to get away from this kind of nonsense. When it comes right down to it, because Canada opened it's doors to so many of these people, the politicians have to watch what they say. They are always so proud that Canada is pluralistic and that they were able to throw God out of schools only to roll out the red carpet to Allah.
I'm not sure if I am glad not to be raising my children there is because of the Mohammedans or the Jamican gangs. What a toss up. Isn't it wonderful how such groups of people can totally destroy a country which took years of hard work to build.
I knew that when the Mohammedans were building their mosques along with their call towers (not sure of the appropriate name) I used to say to people that the reason was so that one day they would be fully functional. I wonder how long it will be until that day?
I can't help but think of the horrific day ahead when the Canadian national anthem will declare: "Allah keep our land, glorious and free under Islam". Boy I'd hate to be the one to write the music to those lyrics, but then again, it'll probably all be Arabic to me.

you have to give Harper a chance, he cannot appear to be too far to the right, the media is as always ready to say Conservatives are racists. he is just being smart, saying nonsense to the muslims, knows he has to get things straightened out before the next election where he can get a majority and do some good changes. we are so behind the US, hopefully its a start in the "right" direction!
Stephen Harper knows a little act of 'Taquiya'.Bing a Chif Minister of canada,one cannot outright condemn this savage voilence to the cartoon issue. So he ,while condeming the violence raging in the Islamic world,he only said he was satisfied the way the Canadian Muslims conducted their protest peacefully.(but there are reports that the frightened shop keepers closing the shutters hastily,when the procession neared their business places. Now,sensing the resenment of the West, for the actions of these Muslim hooligans,who burnt consulates,burnt flags,booted crosses..and throwed stones on every one,now want to create a peaceful image of Islam in Europe,Canada and in Amercia.Even in UK, first they protested violently with plea-cards like 'behead those who degrade our prophet',' Kill the cartoonist' etc, now want to take out a 'peaceful' procession just to make good the hard feelings they have created.. Muslims in the west now are afraid of the anger and hatred of Non-Muslims in these countries. Now the want to passify them. That is the reson,they advertise that even the Canadlian Prime Minister comended their"peacful protest".But the whole world knows by now that THERE CANNOT BE A PEACEFUL PROTEST BY MUSLIMS.
