As for me, yesterday I planted a sign in my front yard stating that "This household supports the people of Denmark and the right to free speech."

Ayaan Hirsi Ai got alot of 'face time' recently on the bbc. A whole half-hour show devoted to an interview with her. It was marvelous and it might still be available on the 'listen again' feature or you might find it at her web-site.

Of course, the cartoonists have had to go into hiding. I didn't expect any other outcome.

One of the cartoon objecters was putting forth the message "Learn the lesson of 9/11"? And what might that lesson be?

That immensely popular American TV show, The Simpsons, which has remained a popular prime-time show for over 15 years, and has been in syndication for years, has had so many outrageously blasphemous lampoons of Christianity, Jesus, Moses, the Bible and even God Himself over the years, I can't even count them.

Not once has any Christian in response done anything remotely immature or psychotic, as Muslims have done over provocations far less justifiable.

And this is not even counting many other popular TV shows, like South Park and Late Night with Conan O'Brien (among others) who over the years have outrageously lampooned Christianity and Judaism and even Buddhism occasionally.

The have your say section of the BBC online really is revealing. Most of the opinions show a lack of understanding of what is happening to freedom. Some of the commentors say they haven't seen the cartoons, but if they are online enough to post, why haven't they? They haven't bothered to look them up but they take the time to comment?

Granny Weatherwax monitors "Have Your Say" regularly and has pointed out here that the BBC delete anti-Islamic comments when they reach a certain number. In fact the overwhelming majority of the comments were in favour of publishing the cartoons, but these got censored by the dhimmi dhummies at the beeb.

Yes. I traveled in the Mideast for the US Army during Desert Storm, and no one told me my life was endangered by Islamists. I am a Muslim and I am glad for what the European newspapers have done.
After each incident between Islam and the West, more people converted to Islam. When 9/11 happened (which I oppose), people started knowing about Islam and they converted. After the Muslim outrage when Gitmo guards flushed the Koran in a toilet people started reading about Islam and they converted.
So it's nice to hear a story where Islam is demonized. It makes poeople want to learn what Islam ACTUALLY says by reading the Koran. Instead of finding darkeness, they find LIGHT.

How true you are my dear European friend. As an American, I am sorely disappointed by the cowardly reaction the American media has provided in dealing with the Danish cartoon of Muhammad.

Unite in solidarity of free speech with the Europeans? Hell no. What a cowardly response! Their silence on this free speech issue clearly played into the hands of Islamists.

Please show me any American newspapers that printed the Danish cartoons of Muhammad. I didn't see one. I realize that I live in a liberal city- Seattle, Washington. The Seattle Times or The Seattle Post Intelligencer simply chose to not publish the cartoons.

During the recent Muslim riots in France- yes Muslims riots (not the youth riots)- I didn't read much in American magazines about the riots. When I managed to find some scant coverage, the facts were so twisted and misguided that the average reader would have thought that Islam had absolutely nothing to do with the riots. It was all blamed on French racism???

People need to know the real truth about Islam. I firmly believe that sites such as jihadwatch are a great way for people to begin to learn the truth about Islam. But more is needed. There is a very strong need today - throughout all of the west- for people to become more educated about the truth of Islam. Our future depends upon it.

There were US papers that printed the pictures, among them the NY Sun and the Philly Enquirer.

The US has been exposed to a great deal of criticism about their decisions vis a via Islam.
Particularly from some portions of the European community.

We happen to have the largest number of troops at risk in the Middle East, if the situation goes to hell over these cartoons (as I am sure Iran is hoping). Also a large investment of blood and treasure in jump starting stable and peaceful countries in the ME, whether you agree with the concept or not.

The safety of 150,000 US soldiers surrounded by how many million Muslims???? is a HUGE consideration, so I think the snark is uncalled for.

My view was changed by the story of a British solider who narrowly escaped an Indian massacre. The northeastern tribes were not pleased by British policy, and decided to turn on their erstwhile allies. The soldiers were tomahawked without warning at a lacrosse game BY THOSE THEY CONSIDERED TO BE THEIR FRIENDS.

One mental picture resulting from that story was of our men and women (including British soldiers and others) outnumbered and surrounded, having to fight their way through an enraged populace. Some of them fighting against the very Iraqi units that they had equipped and trained. Troops not suspecting that they were a target until it was too late....

Not a pleasant thought. I'm sure Iran is hoping for just such a circumstance.

In the Fox Report today, in a segment on the attack on the Danish consulate in Beirut, Jennifer Griffin covered some of the anti-Jewish cartoons that appeared in a government approved Bahrein paper, as well as another in an Egyptian paper al Waqf (sp?)

Even if they don't show the Danish cartoons, showing the cartoons that the Arabs do run in their media shows them up to the rest of the public as hypocrites.
