BAKU, February 7 (RIA Novosti, Gerai Dadashev) - Muslims in the capital of Azerbaijan took to the streets Tuesday to protest against cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed published in a Danish newspaper and then reprinted by other European media.Echoing a storm of criticism throughout the Islamic world, which led to the Danish Embassy in Lebanon being ransacked on Monday, the protestors carried slogans "Prophet Isa (Jesus) is ashamed of you!" and "Rise, Muslims!"...
The protestors in Baku tried to march toward the country's Foreign Ministry, but police stopped them because they had not been given permission to meet.
The activists read out a resolution denouncing the publication of cartoons as an insult to Islam and called for the people responsible for printing the caricatures to be punished.
According to the document, Muslims all over the world must take a hard line on the problem, as otherwise grave consequences will inevitably ensue.
The demonstrators delivered the resolution to the Foreign Ministry and demanded that the country's government assume a tough position on the issue.
I was under the impression that in the former Soviet republics that have Muslims, the people there aren't fanatics since they had lived under communism for so long, and religion was suppressed. Isn't that still the case there? I understand that Teheran radio is very popular in Tajikistan (Farsi Sunni), while Turkey is very influential in Azerbaijan (Turkic Shia). I also know that there is the Islamic movement of Turkistan centered in the Ferghana valley in Uzbegistan. But other than that, is Islam making a comeback in Central Asia?
In answer to your question, while the western media has been attacking islam so much (according to every moslem many of us speak to) you may like to be updated on the following recent history about azerbiajan:
When a democtratic process was started with 90+% voting to leave azerbiajan before the break up of the USSR in Nagorno Karabakh the azerbiajan response was Jihad with NATO turkish support and fighters from all over including Chechnia and Afganistan.
In this "military" campaign they tried to kill and rape as many cilvilians as possible.
Now Azerbiajan wants Nagorno Karabakh to return the "buffer zone" that they have to protect themselves from aggresssion and for NK to become part of Azerbiajan.
As the president says on the national website of NK, they have a whole generation of people who do not know what a life of oppression is under Azerbiajan so why would they want to give up their self-determination.
Anyway the British Dhimmi Government said in a written response at the time of the ethnic cleansing that "britain has no interest in affairs abroad, only interests and there is oil in the region"
It is interesting that today BPs profits have been boosted by oil coming online in Azerbiajan.
It is also interesting how no one in the west recognises the only democracy in the region, etc.
Turkey still illegaly blockades Armenia but we want it to join the EU.
You will also find lots of stories about Armenian aggression and violence, etc. It is the usual Islamic lies we are getting used to around the world.
Even assuming that the one major incident of Armenian war crimes, that I have solid reason for believing was staged by Azerbiajan for the world press was true, then it is so completely out of all civilised discourse to suggest that it is acceptable to rape and butcher civilians because the enemy did it once.
I'm afraid in Azerbiajan Islamic Jihad has been very much alive but somehow the Karabakis managed to defend themselves despite the whole world not caring.
Europe and America still do not recognise this country. Every time they say they want democracy in the world remember they are lieing as this example shows.

The answer is yes and no. In Uzbekistan, Islamist organizations such as the Hezbi i Tahrir are active but are violently suppressed by the Karimov government. In Kazakhstan and Kirghizia, the Islam is very shallow and most people are more connected with pre-Islamic Turkic traditions that are similar to shamanism.
Of course, the Saudis are pouring millions of dollars into Dawa efforts to spread Wahabhism throughout the region.
In Turkmenistan, the Stalinist dictator has tried to supplant both Marxism and Islam with a cult of himself as semi-divine leader. We'll see how long that will last.
In Azerbaijan, there has been a Shia revival but it is based on nationalism and hatred of the Christian Armenians and Russians. Incidently, Iran has been more supportive of Christian Armenia than with fellow Shi'a Azerbaijan since they fear Azeri separatism in the Iranian northwest.
Then, of course, there are the Chechens, a backward people dedicated to jihad in the most viscious form. They are the ones who blew up the apartment complex in Moscow, massacred the patrons on a movie theatre, and then raped and killed the children in the Beslan school. May gGod protect Russian from these savages.
In regards to this ' cartoon jihad ' the mantra that we are hearing in the Western media is that " Islam forbids the depiction of the Prophet Mohammad because that would lead to idolising. " Well guess what? As these riots shows beyound all shadow of a doubt, Muslims IDOLISE Mohammad and consider it a religous duty to do so!
Of course muslims would universally deny such an observation , which just goes to further show what a pack of lies muslims are operating under. They follow a religion that is based on dishonesty, distortion , hatred and above all a profound fear and distain for freedom.
Being a bunch of militant backward ass religious fanatics does not bring about a world of mercy or compassion. The example being displayed now by the rioters further illistrates that Islamic Big Lie first uttered by the Prophet Mohammad.
No cartoon is as big an insult to muslims as are the present actions by the rioting nitwitts getting all the media coverage.
