An update on this story: Ezra Levant's courageous stand meets only dhimmitude in Saskatoon. They believe in freedom of speech, of course. Sure they do. Except when it matters. "Magazine pulled from Saskatoon store," from the StarPhoenix, with thanks to LGF:
The latest edition of the Western Standard will not reach magazine stands at any McNally Robinson Booksellers stores, owner Paul McNally confirmed Monday."We obviously are fervently in favour of freedom of expression but looking at this one, we don't see anything as being expressed except a kind of hurtfulness toward Muslims," he said in an interview from Winnipeg."I don't know if there is anything to be learned or communicated by publishing the cartoons."
The cartoons are offensive to many individuals, he added.
"We feel there is nothing to gain on the side of freedom of expression and much to lose on the side of hurting feelings," he said."We just thought we would take a pass on this."
Translation into plain English:
"Please don't kill us!! Please, please, please don't kill us!!! Oh, please!!!!! We beg you!!!!Please!!!!"
Translation into chicken:
The same.
If it all was not so pathetic it would be funny would it not?
The media would ordinarily mow their own grandmothers down with an SUV to get a "controversial" photo or story.
Now they care a bout "hurt feelings"?
What bullshit.
And worse, it is TRANSPARENT bullshit.
I am dismayed how easily fear overcomes freedom of expression. There is a large disconnect between the liberals and reality. I doubt Mcnally would have any distributing media of soldiers being mutilated, or cartoons defaming Christianity or Jews. Their cowardice is only exceeded by their hypocrisy.
omission, meand I doubt Mcnally would have any PROBLEM distributing media of soldiers being mutilated, or cartoons defaming Christianity or Jews.
Theyre afraid of hurting someones 'feelings'?
Tell you what, if they carry a copy of the koran then I am getting my feeling hurt too. In fact Im outraged.
Ok, thats about the extent of my anger on this issue and guess what, no one died.
Apparently not all feeling are created equal. The bookstore chain in question seems to have no problem in selling the Protocols of the Elders of Zion or Mein Kampf. Don't believe me, then check for yourself:

This is completely off topic but it does explain the popularity of Islam - they know how to party. Here is a video of a Muslim rave - believe me, it's priceless:

The dhimmitude isn't just in Saskatoon. National bookselling chain Chapters-Indigo, which also owns Coles bookstores won't sell the magazine either.
For those who are interested, Levant handled himself very well in a recent interview by CBC Radio's As It Happens. You can pick up the audio clip via the Canadian Coalition for Democracies' website:

Hey John B,
Just scoped the Rand McNally Robinson site and put in the key words. And hot dog if the two books aren't there!!! Mr. McNally needs to be called to the rug on this and held accountable.
Waterdragon:
Ezra Levant was also very articulate this morning on The Current where he was debating the editor (or other management - didn't catch that persons name) of the Ottawa Citizen. The audio should be available tommorrow on their website archive.
One thing about news execs etc who are too scared to print the cartoons--they won't be fooled into believing that Islam is a religion of peace. And the MSM is reporting every act of muslim violence, day after day, and that's doing a lot more damage to Islam's image than those lame cartoons.
Nice sleuthing, johnb. Guess this Paul McNally isn't worried about "hurting the feelings" of Jews who are slandered in the two books you mentioned. More to the point, he is confident that Jews will not, in response, hurt more than just McNally's feelings. He is now proven to be a yellow, pusillanimous bastard of the worst sort. Get the word out. No self-respecting Canadian should do business with this turd.
Johnb, Waterdragon,
thanks for those links. I've emailed the Western Standard to express my support.
Lots of news outlets in Canada (as well as Muslim spokesmen) are now running with the claim that presenting the cartoons increases the danger to our troops in Afghanistan. This is a questionable argument. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people will buy into it. (But, to the extent that there are people in Afghanistan willing to kill for a cartoon, wouldn't it be better if we dealt with them now, instead of waiting for them to arrive in our countries aiming to attack civilians?) The media has not yet made the connection that the unofficial cartoon ban hurts us all in the long run. The unoffical ban is yet another increment in the imposition of Islamic blasphemy law--one of the major objectives of the people we are fighting.
Sask, is a weird province, its western, but acts like wanton welfare case. they are one of the have not provinces, and demand more in taxes then they generate from the federal government, so of course they have no backbone! talk about putting your head in the sand, they have it in spades!
Background on this McNally Robinson Bookstore ...
They are also located in New York City at 50 Prince Street. The daughter of Paul McNally runs the place. Officially, both firms own 20% of each other. You can tell the owner what you think of his decision:

Editor unrepentant over cartoons
From correspondents in Washington
February 16, 2006
THE cultural editor of a Danish newspaper that started a global row over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed today stood by his decision to publish the controversial caricatures, saying they were aimed at promoting debate.
Flemming Rose, editor of Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, told a panel discussion at the Brookings Institution in Washington that his decision to commission the drawings was legitimate, in light of the self-censorship that prevailed in his country and elsewhere when it came to dealing with Islam.
"There was a legitimate news story we had to cover and we chose to cover it in a not very ordinary way," he said, referring to the letter he sent in September to 40 cartoonists asking them to draw the prophet as they saw him.

Thanks hammerhead: Some key highlights from the article:
Flemming Rose: "So in fact the cartoonists were just treating Islam and Muslims in the same way they would treat everybody else."
Flemming Rose: "What I did did not transcend normal practice," he said.
He acknowledged that his newspaper two years ago had declined to publish satirical cartoons depicting Jesus Christ, but said the current situation was not comparable, and noted that over the years Jyllands-Posten had printed cartoons deemed offensive by Christians, Jews and other religions.
[Archimedes' note: The above, last statement, is most important, because JP had been widely accused of using double-standards, turning down cartoons about Christians. But here Rose sets the record straight].
When asked whether he regretted his decision to publish the Mohammed cartoons, in light of the firestorm they unleashed in the Islamic world and threats against him, Flemming said it was like asking a rape victim whether she regretted wearing a short skirt.

Thanks for that link. The video is great!
And let this be a warning to all muslims as to what can happen to your kids with all that inbreeding and marrying of cousins. Seizures and fits are just the start. Later, they start believing in alla-walla and doing woodoo and plucking their pubic hair.
Pussies.
