The European Union will release substantial aid to the Palestinians to stave off a looming financial crisis despite the appointment of a leader of the Islamist militant group Hamas as prime minister.EU foreign ministers are gathering for talks on how to respond to the impending formation of a Palestinian government by the movement, which does not recognise Israel's right to exist.
"Today I will announce a very substantial package of assistance to meet basic needs," European External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said.
She says the package will total 120 million euros ($A192 million), including 40 million euros to pay electricity bills and 64 million euros channelled through the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees.
"In effect we will pay electricity bills for them, direct to the utilities concerned, including in Israel," she said.
The EU is the largest donor to the Palestinian Authority, but its funding has been thrown into doubt by the election of Hamas, which the bloc lists as a banned terrorist group.

Well, considering that Hamas has been (indirectly) responsible for burning EU offices in Gaza, and considering that Hamas terrorises Christian populations into submission, considering that Hamas' gangs are terrorising Palestinian women to behave or be killed according to their Islamic views, well... it is only suited that we pay for all their expenses, right?
Maybe they will stop hating our guts, maybe they will stop burning our flags, maybe they will burn another EU office and blame Israel, poverty, a deprived childhood or the Crusades.
Who cares? Who cares if we have Europeans without enough food on their tables? Who cares that children in the UK (let alone in the rest of Europe!) aren't getting enough vitamins and nutrients in the public schools? Who cares? No one, apparently - not even the voters.
So why not fund your own terrorist movement? Apparently it is chic, isn't it? And when Hamas blows another Israeli pizzaria to bits, we can always smile to the guy next to us: "Those are my boys!", because now the EU leadership has turned us all into accomplices of terrorism.

Hmm $140mill bucks is not that much, it will run the territories for 2-3 month, if they are willing to live on shoestring and don't waste any of it.
Already there are harvard educated palestinians whining in the Guardian blog in public at not being about to buy yoghurt (and so having to make their own) for their little boys, so imagine how dreadful it will be in 2 month!

But this all begs the question... ...how different is a Hamas-led PA from a Fatah-led PA? Both are committed to the destruction of Israel. The only difference is one appears to be greedier than the other when it comes to taking care of their own immediate personal interests.

Funding Hamas --or funding the palestinian authority while under a Hamas govt-- mean that the EU should have no role in any Israeli-Arab negotiations in the future or the present. It means that the so-called Quarter road map is dead and should not be resurrected and that the Quartet should mind their own damn business and stay out of our affairs.
