Fitzgerald: "Progressive" Malaysia

Jihad Watch Board Vice President Hugh Fitzgerald surveys the situation in "tolerant," "progressive" Malaysia:

Malaysia is, quite incorrectly I'm afraid, always adduced as an example of a progressive, forward-looking, prosperous Muslim state. In fact its prosperity would be considerably diminished but for its Chinese and Hindu population. All Malays are required to be counted as Muslims, and all Muslims benefit from a disguised jizyah tax on non-Muslims which is called the "Bumiputra" or "Sons of the Soil" system. Most Westerners are unacquainted with the "Bumiputra." But anyone living in Malaysia who is unaware of the "Bumiputra" system has not yet sunk beneath the surface of Malaysian life. Although the word means "sons of the soil," it is not the indigenous Malaysian tribes that benefit from the "Bumiputra" policy, but Malay Muslims alone.

According to this "Bumiputra" idea, all economic undertakings, all examples of entrepreneurial flair, must have Muslim Malays as their full partners. Two Chinese who wish to open, for example, a computer consulting company, or an architectural firm, are required to take on a Muslim Malay (but not a Hindu, nor another Chinese) as a full partner, with an equal financial stake -- even though he need not contribute a thing. This is simply a way to ensure that the Muslims can continue to live on the backs of non-Muslims, which is part of the traditional status of dhimmi, including the payment of the jizya (and kharaj, or land-tax).

The real "Sons of the Soil" -- the real indigenous tribes of Malaysia -- in fact are almost entirely Christian, where they are not pagan. These tribes of course, benefit not at all from the Bumiputra system.

Some indication of the nature of Muslim dreams in Malaysia can be gauged from the speech of Mahathir Mohammed, the former "moderate" president of the country. In his notorious address several years ago to assembled heads of Muslim states, he seemed to be advocating "reform" when he called for the harnessing of science and technology -- not in order to investigate the structure of DNA, or the Eight-Fold Path, or De Sitter space, or how to preserve biodiversity in both Wilsonian (Woodrow and E.O.) senses. No, no, what he had in mind, and what he called for, was a Muslim "reform" that would permit Muslim countries to catch up with the West almost entirely in one area and one area alone -- weapons technology. For that he was wildly applauded. This tells us a lot about him, and about the country which he ran, as does the Bumiputra system.

If Malaysia, that supposedly "advanced" and "tolerant" Muslim state, brimful of Western computer companies having their components made or put together there, imposes a disguised tax on non-Muslims, and if the best it can do by way of "moderate" Muslim is Mohammad Matathir, what does that tell us about the state of this “advancement” and “tolerance”?

For Malaysia -- Muslim-ruled Malaysia -- also displays contempt for the free exercise of the individual conscience. In Islam, once a Muslim, you are seldom allowed out. You are akin to a soldier in the Army of Islam. Changing your faith, or abandoning it, is equivalent to deserting from that army. And that is why, when it comes to Muslims and apostasy -- All Dare Call It Treason. So don't try to become a non-Muslim if you are born into Islam; keep it to yourself. And if you are a famous non-Muslim, such as the famous mountaineer M. Moorthy, a Hindu, your relatives may discover that unbeknownst to themm, the state will after your death claim that you are a Muslim and insist on giving you a Muslim buerial. And this posthumous "islamization" will take place despite the protests of friends and family, possibly the result either of your fame (which must be claimed for Islam) or your property (to be inherited now by that relative who did convert to Islam and who apparently swears up and down that just before his death, so did the prominent relative in question.

Malaysia is well-endowed with natural resources, and it would be hard to be poor with such resources. Still, resource-poor but largely Infdiel Singapore has run economic rings around Malaysia ever since they bloodily parted ways. And all those manufacturing jobs which made Malaysia a center for Western companies -- assembly-lines for computers, that sort of thing -- will likely move China-wards, where labor costs are lower, and workers more skilled. China -- Infidel China -- offers a much better place for those Western businessmen who are currently in Malaysia, but may find that they no longer wish to fund, however indirectly, the jihad being waged worldwide by Muslim economies and Muslim peoples. Meanwhile, the real talent will move to Singapore, which has no natural resources but has a talented and motivated citizenry that keeps careful tabs, through a whole series of legal measures, on the spread of Islam in the country.

It is also our choice, the choice of the Infidels, whether to invest in Malaysia. There is nothing like Muslim violence to discourage investment, tourism, trade, as the Arab states are finding out. Other than oil, there is no major economic activity with them, and what there is will be severely curtailed, including that easy money-maker, mass tourism. Sorry, Malaysia, for a while we indulged you. But unless you end the Bumiputra system, unless you cut your ties to the Arabs and especially the Saudis, we're afraid the business of Infidels more and more will have to go elsewhere. Nothing personal; it's just that our executives feel a bit uneasy in your country. All that kidnapping, and those bloody videos, and so on. All of that may hasten the day when it becomes time for non-Arab Muslims in Malaysia and elsewhere, to reconsider the Arab cultural and linguistic imperialism, an Arab imperialism about which the apostates (such as Anwar Shaikh) have often written, and a problem that resonates in Kurdish and Berber hearts and minds, for they have had to endure that imperialism directly from the Arabs, and not from a distance, as do the Muslims of East Asia. And there are, here and there, signs that some Malaysians who have traveled to Arab lands, and especially to the oil states, did not feel an immediate oneness with these arrogant Arab fellow members of the umma al-islamiyya, and in fact, were distinctly uneasy at what they saw, especially in Saudi Arabia. And that unease could lead to a greater consciousness of Islam as the vehicle for forcible, or voluntary, arabization, that it always was. And an independent Kurdistan, of course, would do much to raise the consciousness of non-Arab Muslims about this matter of Arab supremasist ideology within Islam, and such a raising (raise that mental roofbeam high, carpenters!) can only increase the desire of at least the most morally aware non-Arab Muslims to distinguish themselves from from the Arabs.

Meanwhile, Badawi follows Mahathir, and Malaysians keep thinking that their economy shows what can be done by a Muslim country, not what can be done by a Muslim-ruled country that is half-populated by energetic non-Muslims, who work not only for themselves, but for the Muslim half of the population. Meanwhile, in Malaysia, keep on tapping those rubber-trees, and supplying those spices. They will last, long after the computer companies have packed up and moved to China or to India. And remember to keep supplying that special wood for what trade remains in those Penang lawyers that S. J. Perelman was so fond of mentioning. That should keep your economy afloat.

Give me a chime when a Western company, considering investing in Malaysia, takes the Bumputra system into account before making its investing decision. Business is business and no one will care for all those exploited non-Muslims. Their exploitation must be a concern for the American government rather than American companies, but sadly, it isn't.

Excellent Analysis, Hugh!

If I may add a few observations since I have a long experience with Malaysia.

1. Part of the myth of Malay moderation comes from the fact that many speak English and Malay women traditionally wear brightly coloured hijab (Tudong) instead of grey or black. However in recent years there has been an expansion of Salafist ideology led by the overtly Islamist PAS which has imposed sharia in several states on the Malay Peninsula. PAS, probably with the support of the government, is openly supporting the Muslim war of terror being waged in southern Thailand.

You are 100 percent correct about the Malaysian economy being based on a policy of overt religious and racial discrimination. Even this is selective. While "bumiputra" should mean the same as indigenous, in practice it actually means Muslim. While Islamic law traces one's status through the paternal line, this is ignored for prominent Muslims such as Mahathir, whose father was from what is today Pakistan.

Indigenous people who are non-Muslim, such as the Dayaks of Sarawak and the natives of Sabah are classified as "pre-bumis" which is as absurd as saying "pre-indigenous" or "pre-aboriginal"!

As for the Dayaks, the Chinese, Hindus, and other non-Muslims, they were basically sold out by the British colonialists who strongly favoured the Malays. The original British plan for Malaysia also included non-Muslim Singapore, but they managed to successfully secede from Malaysia, to their lasting prosperity.

Unfortunately, the two non-Muslim states of Sarawak and Sabah are treated as overseas colonies by the regime in Kuala Lumpur. Like the Prime Minister, the Malaysian head of state must be Muslim and the position is rotated among Penninsular Malaya's Sultans and Rajahs. This means that no Sarawaki or Saban can ever lead Malaysia.

Sarawak itself was founded as a nation by a Christian Rajah named James Brooke, whose family ruled Sarawak as an independent nation until the British took over at the end of World War II.

Sarawak is located on the island of Borneo, and is one of the two states that make up East Malaysia. Sarawak and Sabah are separated from West Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia) by the South China Sea. With an area of 124,449.51 square kilometres, Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia, making up some 37.5% of the country's total area. Sarawak has a population of 2,176,800. The capital city of Kuching has some 458,300 people making it the highest populated city in Sarawak and the the 7th highest populated city in Malaysia.

The main religions in Sarawak are Catholicism, other Christian denominations and Buddhism. Less than 25 percent of Sarawak's population is Muslim and only 21 percent are Malay.

If Sarawak (and Sabah) were to secede from Malaysia, they would by size, population, natural resources, and economics, immediately join the dragon economies of Southeast Asia. Beyond this, Sarawak and Sabah have over 70 percent of Malaysia's natural resources, including almost all of the natural gas and oil fields.

It is clearly time for Sarawak and Sabah to end this last vestige of colonialism and join the community of independent nations.

manchester university has a mosque in the basement of one of its buildings because malaysia threatened to stop sending students if one was not provided.

the funny thing is the government pays only for the moslems to attend. the other malaysians have to pay themselves.

This is aparteid but the university and students do not care and the moslems do not like this pointing out (especially since they maintain islam is the black man's religion).

western companies and investors would do well to see who facilitates aparteid on their own soil and send their money elsewhere too.

"It is clearly time for Sarawak and Sabah to end this last vestige of colonialism and join the community of independent nations."

And precipitate a civil war? With what Army?

As a former Malaysian, I agree with everything written on this page. The day I surrendered my passport (within whose pages was emblazoned, "This passport is valid for all countries except Israel"), was one of the happiest days of my life.

Hugh wrote:

"No, no, what he had in mind, and what he called for, was a Muslim "reform" that would permit Muslim countries to catch up with the West almost entirely in one area and one area alone -- weapons technology. "

Make that Singapore instead of 'West'. We've got Apache Longbows, yo. Let's see those suckers try to strongarm us into anything.

Vincent,

Good point, but Singapore didn't have an army either when she wisely seceeded from the Malay state.

Actually, for the secession of Sarawak and Sabah to succeed, they would need outside support. The logical choice would be China. If the PRC were to recognize their declaration of soveriegnty, then independence would be guaranteed. The humiliation this would bring on KL could then spark an uprising by the Chinese and Indians on the Penninsula. China would be obligated to support the Malayan Chinese. They could also appeal to the Thai army to invade for the justifiable cause of ending the financing of the Islamic jihad in south Thailand.

Yes it would be a civil war, but it is one that the non-Muslims can clearly win over the less-educated and economically backward Malays.

But the Malays constitute the overwhelming majority of the Malaysian armed forces. Chinese and Indians of this generation have no combat experience whatsoever. Things would be different if Malaysians (and many other nations besides) had the Second Amendment.

Vincent, You're absolutely right about the Second Amendment. The Jihadist are being armed and trained by Iran, Sudan, in Pakistan, and mainly Saudi Arabia, while the oppressed non-Muslims remain unprotected. Just look how Islamic terrorists have slaughtered hundreds of Thais while having a safe-haven across the border, particularly in PAS ruled Kelantan.

In the 1950s some Malaysian Chinese did take up arms but their movement was hijacked by the Communists. The question is what would it take for the Chinese and Hindus today to create a strong, militant, pro-freedom opposition that could effectively fight against the Kuala lumpur regime?

The upside is that many Malay soldiers would turn and run if faced with a determined and well-armed enemy. This combined with the inherent corruption among Malay leaders could bring about their collapse.

"what [the former Malaysian Prime Minister] had in mind, and what he called for, was a Muslim "reform" that would permit Muslim countries to catch up with the West almost entirely in one area and one area alone -- weapons technology. For that he was wildly applauded."

Not merely wildly applauded: he got a standing ovation from heads of state and dignitaries convened there from Muslim countries all around the world.

The word "bumiputra" is itself Sanskrit in origin. "Bhoomi" in Sanskrit means land and "Putra" is son.

Mahathir sucks.

I can bear this out. The company I work for has assembly and test facilities in Malaysia and just recently China, and assembly only facilities in Thailand. Vincent above mentioned how the Malaysian possport is not valid in Israel, and that could end up being one of the reasons for their undoing. In the semiconductor business, the point of shipment happens after test, not just after assembly, and right now, we mainly do that from Penang. One of our major technology partners is an Israeli company, which means that products do need to ship between Israel and Malaysia. See where I'm going?

Our China facility has just added test capabilities, so that by the time this partnership yields results, Malaysia won't be a factor. And if and when Thailand follows suit (demand permitting), that would reduce activity in Penang even further.

It isn't that my employer doesn't want to fund a jihad - they probably have no clue about that. But when we are forced to ship product from Malaysia to Europe to Israel, thereby driving up costs by $0.50 a chip, we have to open up new test facilities: transferring these costs to customers is not an option, unless we had a mission statement to go out of business.

Too bad, since Malaysia (and Indonesia) are countries whose cultural identity would remain intact, with or without Islam. They could really have used all this activity to their well being

Vincent Wong,

could you please comment the following:

"Two Chinese who wish to open, for example, a computer consulting company, or an architectural firm, are required to take on a Muslim Malay (but not a Hindu, nor another Chinese) as a full partner, with an equal financial stake -- even though he need not contribute a thing."

To make this chrystal-clear, 2 options:

1. The chinese have a start capital of 1 million dollars. The required muslim also brings in 1 million. As a result, the chinese have 50% of the stock as has the muslim.

In option 1 the muslim brings also 50 % of the capital, although he's obviously not going to do any actual work for the company. In this option - let's be patient - for thngs to go right, the muslim would indeed be entitled to 50 % of the profit the company is making, after all he acts as an investor. What the 2 Chinese should get should be 50 % of the profit PLUS wages for the work they do for the company. It is dicriminatory that the business partner must always be a muslim, but from fiscal point of wiev thing should go like this:

Chinese: 50 % of the start capital
Muslim: 50 % of the start capital

Assuming that the muslim does not work in the company:

Chinese: 50 % of the profit + wages
Muslim: 50 % of the profit

2. The chinese have a start capital of 1 million dollars. The muslim brings in 0 dollars. Inspite of this, the muslim gets 50 % of the stock. So it goes:

Chinese: 100 % of the start capital
Muslim: 0 % of the start capital

Stocks: Chinese / Muslim 50-50

If the option 2 was to be the practice, then this is just flat-out theft. The muslim in question does not do any actual work for the company, but on top of that the muslim also steals 50 % of the start capital.

You see Vincent, here in Finland we barely have muslims. Of the population of Finland 5.2 million, 20 000 are muslims, this is 0.35 %. The (unofficial) policy of the government is that muslim share is not to increase and shall reduce whenever possible.

This because of the fact that even this tiny minority is involved in crime in a disproportionate manner. If there's a robbery or rape somewhere, the cops have learned to ask where are the Irakis or the Somalis because they are always a good guess.

Second thing is that they simply do not want any work. Somali's have said quite openly that it is a shame to work for the infidels.

What the western Europe is doing right now is a sort of inverse jizyah. The muslims do not work and neither do they want to; from their point of wiev, that the infidels pay us welfare without we doing nothing is the way it should be. The dhimmis are paying jizyah in form of welfare. To put it short, Islam in Europe is a social bum. Although proud of being a social bum.

Vincent,

I've been to Penang once, i obviously didnt have a clue about this bumiputra system even then it is easy to tell that racism is rife in Malaysia. I was held up at airport and treated like an illegal immigrant (even though i am a British citizen, albiet of Indian origin). Perhaps you could tell us, why is access to Sabah and Srarwak restricted to foreigners?

Vikrant_Camberleykar,

Your experience is not unusual for Hindus. If your name were Mohammed or Abdullah, you would have been much differently. Sarawak and Sabah are very open for tourists but in reality only Malays are allowed to immigrate there. That's because they are treated as colonies by Kuala Lumpur which would like to increase the percentage of Muslims. The proof of their colonial status is the fact that well over 70 percent of the natural resources are in Sarawak and Sabah but these two "states" get only 25 - 30 percent of the revenue prom their own production. This is pure colonial exploitation.

Well atleast we need a special visa to visit Sabah or Sarawak.

Yet the Arab propagandists and the NGOs accuse Israel of apartheid.

"Like the Prime Minister, the Malaysian head of state must be Muslim and the position is rotated among Penninsular Malaya's [sic Peninsular Malaysia's] Sultans and Rajahs. This means that no Sarawaki or Saban can ever lead Malaysia."

Well, in order to be Sweden's head of state you have to be a white Lutheran member of the House of Bernadotte, so one can hardly begrudge Malaysia for restricting the position to Malay Muslim hereditary rulers of nine of its states.
Indonesia is a republic, but to be president you need to be Muslim and Javanese in order to have any hope of success.

The position of head of government in Malaysia is another matter entirely.

Singapore did not secede from Malaysia, it was told to leave. Lee Kuan Yew wanted a Malaysian Malaysia, but the federal government wanted, you guessed it, a Malay Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur also accused him of wanting to get into Malaysian federal politics, garnering support from the Chinese and other non-Malays in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.

While he would have liked the idea of being Prime Minister of a larger country, he turned out to be better off leading a smaller country in which his power base was assured.

"in order to be Sweden's head of state you have to be a white Lutheran member of the House of Bernadotte"

Not that I would like to defend the ruling Dhimmi World Champion Sweden - for hell's sake NO - but at principial level:

I don't know how many times one has discussed the issue of European monarchies, but let's repeat it for the umphteenth time: European monarchs are a tourist attraction with no power.

so one can hardly begrudge Malaysia for restricting the position to Malay Muslim hereditary rulers of nine of its states.

Well Malaysia may claim to be "truly Asia", but if India a land with people of ethnicities rancing from Indo-Aryans,Dravidians to Huns and Scythians can have a Punjabi Sikh prime minister and a Tamil Muslim President so why cant Malaysia?

Next Prime Minister of UK may well be Gordon Brown (a Scot), mind you Englishmen outnumbering Scots 10 to 1. If it can work in India or UK why not Malaysia?

pah.. dont mind those glaring typos there. I got clumsy fingers!

pah.. dont mind those glaring typos there. I got clumsy fingers!

Sabah was stolen from the Philippines.

http://www.epilipinas.com/SabahClaim.htm

Interesting.
Still - where do ordinary people like me look for companies or other people which/who do not want to trade with oppressor-states and where is the list of companies who’ll stand up for western values?
Companies or people as those mentioned above could be made more visible and a nice tool to make the world a better place to be in - for all.

Sabah and Sarawak should be rescued from Malaysia, and from the deliberate push, through systematic Muslim immigration, to islamize these places -- in the same way that Indonesia was forced to disgorge East Timor.

Could the oil-rich Sultanate of Brunei be made coup-worthy, and systematically be de-islamized? Possibly not, but back in the day (centuries back in the day) the ruler's religion became that of his country. Changing the Sultan's mind, persuading him that his people have more to gain by opening the country to other possiblities, including Christianity, does seem implausible. But is it?

A more plausible temptation for the Sultan of Brunei would be modern secular Western materialism, though he currently has the best of both worlds -- immanent paradise by his accidental Gatesian wealth and an eschatological paradise assured him through his Islam.

I am a Chinese "dhimmi" from Malaysia, who first experienced what it meant to be a non-bumiputera/non-Muslim from a very young age, in primary school when I was called a "babi" (Malay for Pig) by a Muslim schoolmate who shrank from me like I was "haram". I must have been about 8 or 9 years old back then. From that first experience, and subsequent growing awareness and understanding of the institutionalised racism/religio-fascism that is blatantly promoted and exalted by the government, I stopped being "Malaysian" in mind, spirit and practice.

From that young age, I looked instead toward the great nation that is USA in forming the foundations of my personal belief-system based on the concept of "Life, Liberty & Justice" that is enshrined in the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. My dream then was to someday become an American, to reject with glee a Malaysian "citizenship" to which I am nothing more than a second-class Dhimmi subjugated and subjected to paying jizya via the deceptively crafted "Bumiputera" system, aka "Prince of the soil" policy .....as if we 3rd generation Chinese/Indians were not born here, as if we were somehow deficient and undeserving of equal rights, constantly being reminded that our forefathers were "granted" the privilege of a "citizenship" by our Malay lords and masters. Many of us here take offense in being regarded as a NON- (NON-Bumiputera, NON-Muslim, NON-privileged...etc). We experience discrimination on a daily basis [education, purchasing property (discounts given purely on basis of race), job opportunities, tax money spent to build only mosques & bailing out govt-controlled Bumiputera companies, making ownership of dogs as pets difficult in Shah Alam (Malay-majority township), the list is endless. Parasitism is encouraged here, with over 50% (and growing as rapidly as they breed) of the population enjoying such "privilege" by virtue of their race & religion alone. No wonder they are renowned for being complacent, slothful and incompetent.

The Rosa Parks of Malaysia are jailed indefinitely under ISA (Internal Security Act - aka detention without trial). Govt-controlled newspapers write of/support racist policies on a daily basis as if it were the best thing since sliced-bread. The current Prime Minister is quoted to have said (http://www.bernama.com.my/bernama/v3/news.php?id=181496): .....Hamas had been doing a lot of social service and this was recognised by the Palestinian people. Suicide bombing is apparently a "Social Service" in these parts of the world.

It is having such a blatantly hypocritical govt which supposedly opposed Apartheid in South Africa and yet practises it with such relish in its own backyard that drives many like me and Vincent to vote with our feet. Unlike Vincent, however, I have not yet managed to escape the clutches of this perverse country & government. I am working towards the American dream....but in my heart and mind, in living my life, I am American already.

Bam, Vincent, Vikrant,
I have heard those "Malaysia Truly Asia" commercials on CNN over and over. I always felt the slogan was rather fishy. But you have supplied important details about matters that I only had a vague awareness of. Why don't you do something to challenge the slogan? After all, Malaysia is discriminating against people of the two main nations in Asia, China and India. How dare the Malaysian govt claim to represent the true Asia?

I guess the Chinese and Indian govts wouldn't do anything for their ethnic fellows in Malaysia, but maybe a petition protest to CNN against that slogan could help or at least publicize the real situation there. After all, the MSM in the USA and the rest of the West are so committed to covering up for the Arabs and Islam in general [in Malaysia in this case] that they will never frankly present the true story of what goes in Malaysia.

Malaysiacontinues to give sanctuaryand support to the terrorists waging Jihad against Thailand. Yet Bush, Blair and company continue to treat Malaysia as if it were a friend of the West. This is insanity.

Malaysia should be immediately declared a terrorist state and treated as one. Also, No Muslim student from Malaysia should be allowed a student visa until all Malaysian Chinese and Indians in US universities are given the same funding as Malays.

Provoslavni:

The Malayan insurrection wasn't hijacked by the Communists: it was Communist at its inception. One reason it failed was that plenty of non- and anti-Communist Sino-Malaysians helped fight it, too (back then, ethnic Chinese and Indians could serve in the constabulary). Hence, Malaysia is not only racist, but also ungrateful.

And for Pete's sake, China taking over Sabah and Sarawak would be a disaster. For ideological reasons, Mao's China looked the other way when Pol Pot massacred ethnic Chinese in Cambodia.

Bam: I hope you get sworn in ASAP. Welcome to the new world.

Vincent: Interesting posts. I've lived a lot in Asia, especially Taiwan. Do you speak either Mandarin, Hokkien, or Hakka?

Look who's in town this week...mr loony himself...

Iran's President Meets Malaysian Leader on Ties, Nuclear Plans
March 2 (Bloomberg) -- Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad meets Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today to forge closer ties and explain the Islamic republic's nuclear program, seeking to drum up international support.

Ahmadinejad, who arrived in Malaysia yesterday on his first trip to the Southeast Asian nation since becoming president in August, will meet Abdullah and brief him on Iran's nuclear program as well as discuss cooperation in trade and investment.

Iran is seeking international backing for a plan to have Russia enrich uranium for the Islamic republic to ease concern its atomic program may lead to the production of weapons. The United Nations will meet March 6 to decide whether to take action against Iran.

Abdullah, whose Barisan Nasional coalition advocates a moderate brand of Islam, wants Malaysia to forge closer ties with Islamic countries to stem the decline in their share of global exports. About 50 percent of Malaysia's 26 million people practice Islam.

Abdullah in June called on Islamic nations to promote balanced economic development and reduce poverty to help overcome extremism. He has long sought closer cooperation among Islamic countries to help counter global prejudice against Muslims.

The three-day visit is to ``strengthen the existing good bilateral relations and cooperation'' between Malaysia and Iran ``in all spheres,'' the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement released by Bernama PRwire Malaysia.

Proton Holdings Bhd., Malaysia's biggest carmaker, exports its vehicles to Iran while Petroliam Nasional Bhd., the national oil company, has exploration and production interests in Iran, including a stake a liquid natural gas project in Iran's South Pars field.

Nuclear Program

The U.S. and the European Union have been concerned that Iran's nuclear program is a front for the development of arms. At a Feb. 4 meeting, the International Atomic Energy Agency's board voted 27-3, with five countries abstaining, to send Iran to the UN Security Council pending a March 6 review by the nuclear body.

Iran, with the world's second biggest oil and natural gas reserves, says its nuclear program is intended to produce energy for civilian use. Fuel enrichment, which uses a gas obtained through uranium conversion, may be used to produce weapons-grade uranium.

A Malaysian company, Scomi Group Bhd., controlled by Kamaluddin Abdullah, the son of Prime Minister Abdullah, was implicated in a U.S.-led probe into Libya's nuclear weapons program in 2004.

U.S. President George W. Bush, in comments about Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan's transfer of nuclear technology to Libya, in 2004 referred to a Malaysian factory as a source for key parts for that program. Scomi disclosed it was the focus of the probe, though it was cleared of wrongdoing after a police investigation found it was misled by the buyers.

State Welcome

The Iranian president, who won last year's election after pledging to redistribute the country's oil wealth to the people, will be accorded a state welcoming ceremony in Malaysia's parliament in Kuala Lumpur today.

He will later attend a business luncheon organized by the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, followed by a ``restricted'' meeting between the two leaders.

A joint press conference will then be held, before Ahmadinejad tours Putrajaya, the government's administrative capital, and the high technology park.

On the third day of his visit, the Iranian president will deliver a public lecture entitled ``International Issues and the Role of the Muslim World.''

Kepha,

My bad for phrasing my thought poorly. I should have written that the Communists staged their insurrection with the purpose of hijacking the legitimate aspirations of the Penninsular Chinese. As you rightly point out, the reds failed miserably in this. At the time many Chinese saw the more backward Malays as unable to be a real threat to their prosperity. An exception was Lee Kuan Yew who led Singapore to independence without taking the communist route.

Also, at the time, Muslims were seen as a bulwark against the spread of Communism, just as earlier, we saw Stalin as a positive opponent of Hitler. We helped the Communists against the Nazis and then the Muslims against the Communists. Defeating one beast while empowering another. Of course, Communism, Nazism and Islam are all totalitarian ideologies, and its past time that we refuse to help any totalitarian idealogues anywhere.

By the way, my wife has family among the Teochiu and Hailam speakers in Thailand, Malaysia, and the PRC, so this is an issue close to my heart.

[CBBS] List of racial discrimination in Malaysia

China Daily BBS

List of Racial Discrimination in Malaysia

List of Racial Discriminations in Malaysia, practiced by Gov’t as well as Gov’t agencies. This list is an open secret. Best verified by Gov’t itself because it got the statistics. This list is not in the order of importance,. that means the first one on the list is not the most important and the last one on the list does not mean least important.

This list is a common knowledge to a lot of Malaysians, especially those Non-Malays (Tamils, Chinese, Ibans, Kadazans, orang asli, Christians, etc) who were being racially discriminated. Figures in this list are estimates only and please take it as a guide only. Gov’t of Malaysia has the most correct figures. Is Gov’t of Malaysia too ashamed to publish their racist acts by publishing racial statistics?

This list cover a period of about 47 years since Independence (1957).

List of racial discriminations (Malaysia):

50 road names (at least) had been change from Chinese names to other names.

10 all public universities Vice chancellors are Malays

99% of 2000 Petronas gasoline stations are owned by Malays

There are hundreds more racial discrimin ations in Malaysia to add to this list of “colossal” racism. It is hoped that the victims of racism will write in to expose racism. Malaysian Government should publish statistics showing how much Malays had benefited from the “special rights” of Malays and at the same time tell the statistics of how much other minority races are being discriminated. Hence, the responsibility lies in the Malaysian gov’t itself to publish unadulterated statistics of racial discrimination. If the Malaysia gov’t hide the statistics above, then there must be some evil doings, immoral doings, sinful doings and shameful doings, like the Nazi, going on onto the Non-Malays of Malaysia.

Civilized nation, unlike evil Nazi, must publish statistics to show its treatment on its minority races, This is what Malaysia must publish...We are asking for the publication of the statistics showing how “implementation of special rights of Malays” had inflicted colossal racial discri mination onto Non-Malays.

Ends

"Sabah and Sarawak should be rescued from Malaysia, and from the deliberate push, through systematic Muslim immigration, to islamize these places -- in the same way that Indonesia was forced to disgorge East Timor."

Well, they were silly enough to vote to become part of Malaysia in the first place, whereas East Timor was invaded and annexed by Indonesia. However, at least the UN didn't recognise that, as it did the so-called 'Act of Free Choice' that handed West Papua over to Indonesia.

One Malaysian Chinese Dhimmi, John Teo of the New Straits Times, wrote that he could empathise [?] with his Indonesian friend when he said that Jakarta "probably saved [East Timor] from communist-inspired mayhem." Pass the barf bags round, people....

"Well Malaysia may claim to be "truly Asia", but if India a land with people of ethnicities rancing from Indo-Aryans,Dravidians to Huns and Scythians can have a Punjabi Sikh prime minister and a Tamil Muslim President so why cant Malaysia?"

India is a Republic. Malaysia is a monarchy. Just as well, as when the maharajahs and other rulers got stripped of their status in India they went into politics and business. If the sultans and rajahs went the same way in Malaysia it'd be even worse, like Indonesia.

"European monarchs are a tourist attraction with no power."

So too are Malaysian ones since Mahathir clipped their wings. They might still have some sway in state politics, but in the weak federal system, that doesn't count for much.
