CAIRO, Egypt - Thousands of worshippers emerging from Friday prayers demonstrated against drawings of the Prophet Muhammad in the Mideast, Asia and Africa, clashing with police in some cities despite religious leaders' attempts to keep marches peaceful.In Kenya, police shot and wounded one person among about 200 demonstrators trying to march to the residence of Denmark's ambassador.
About 60 protesters in the Iranian capital, Tehran, threw firebombs at the French Embassy, shattering nearly every window on its street facade, even after a cleric at a prominent Iranian mosque urged people not to attack diplomatic missions.
"Down! Down with France! Down! Down with Israel," the crowd chanted. One firebomb exploded in the embassy and started a small blaze that was quickly extinguished....
Eleven people have been killed in the protests, all of them during three days of riots this week in Afghanistan. A 12th person died Friday in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, when he was hit by an ambulance rushing away the wounded protester....
But Friday prayers — a frequent launching ground for political demonstrations — brought a new wave of protests in Egypt, Jordan, the Palestinian territories and Morocco. No significant marches were seen in Syria or Lebanon, the scene of attacks on embassies in past weeks.
In Jordan, organizers and clerics were able to keep order.
Around 2,000 followers of the Muslim Brotherhood marched peacefully through the capital Amman, after cleric Abdul-Rahman Ibdah told them in his sermon not to "imitate the rioters in other countries (who) harmed Islam."
Egypt saw its most widespread protests yet, with thousands protesting in 21 of its 26 provinces, including in Cairo and the second-largest city, Alexandria.
Many were organized by the opposition Muslim Brotherhood, which has called for marches to continue — but peacefully. The group's deputy head, Khairat el-Shater, appealed to Muslims beforehand "not to let their furor drag them into attacking properties ... or to turn into a clash between civilizations."
But violence erupted when police tried to stop demonstrations.
In the northern Delta city of Mahalla el-Kubra, where some 15,000 people marched, security forces fired tear gas and water cannon when demonstrators refused to disperse. Protesters pelted them with rocks and attacked shops and cars. At least 20 people were arrested.
About 1,000 people protested outside Cairo's Al-Azhar Mosque, some chanting, "Osama bin Laden, explode Copenhagen," and burning a Danish flag. Some threw shoes at police trying to bar their way, and security forces beat protesters with sticks.
Afterward, Brotherhood official Mohammed Bishr said the violence and flag burnings were caused by "intruders who infiltrated the peaceful demonstrations."
Protests by Palestinians were smaller than in recent days, but vehement. Gunmen fired in the air as thousands marched in Gaza, while about 2,000 women, young boys and older men marched around the Dome of the Rock shrine in Jerusalem, chanting "Bin Laden, strike again" and burning a Danish flag.
This is the tragedy of a part of the world that doesn't know Friday is "Miller Time."

There is room on this planet for everyone AS LONG as christians don't insist on infusing their culture worldwide as the dominant culture of the globe. It's interesting how the hate being taught in some christian churchs is now being projected onto Muslims. The FBI now regularly attends mosque services in just about every city in America based on this assumption. Wonder how many of those chaps have converted? I'd bet a lot once they saw the truth.

I have been to a number of posting boards to know who is a troll from non trolls. Right now, I am not suprised that certain trolls are coming out of the woodwork, because of the cartoons bruhaha.

No, not a "troll". A person tired of trying to have a decent exchange is called "Modern Man". The Tiny Minority of Rational People on the planet, Western society, are the ones who, time and time again, have tried to engage the irrational muslim "street"(unpaved at that) in some sort, any sort, of civilized dialogue, only to be confronted with the most bizarre dichotomy of standards extant in the world today. Islam, by it's very nature and foundational tenets, prevents it's adherents from engaging in civilized, rational, honest discourse. It's inherant disfunctional nature is the main reason that 90% of the muslim responses to the results of interaction with the Modernist, Rational, Enlightened, and civilized world is foaming, frothing, destructive and self destructive, mindlessly bellowing rage. I would estimate, conservatively mind you, that 90% of all the pictures of muslims I have seen in my 50 years of life show muslims screaming, bellowing, or burning something(usually flags or a human effigy). The limitless muslim capacity to rage, coupled with the limitless muslim capacity to be offended. Again, the dichotomy. The infidels must walk on eggs to make sure they don't offend the muslim, yet anything, ANYTHING a muslim does is excusable, can be explained away as SOMEONE ELSE'S FAULT. It's always, like a child's rationale, someone else's fault. In fact, an offended infidel is seen as an attempt to oppress the noble muslim, a strong and self-confident infidel is seen as an affront to Islam. To the muslim, it's "all about me". The common muslim man is a tool. He is easily manipulated, gullible, ridiculously easy to incite, is incapable of thinking for himself(there's that submission thing again) and will do the lemming thing in a minute for some twisted imam, an imam who could give a sh!t about the stooges he goads into an orgy of cartoonish and embarrassing behavior in front of the worlds cameras. Look at the pictures of the cartoon riots. Would YOU want to try to have a "decent exchange" with any of them? You want to wait until they calm down? Fat chance. Tomorrow it will be something else. I am not interested in your penny-arcade moral equivalence regarding the actions of Christians 700 years ago, or those of Timothy McViegh for that matter. I am not interested in the hair-trigger sensibilities of a mob of uneducated yet amazingly arrogant sociopaths, embracing a reality that only a schizophrenic mind could construct, except to use them as an illustration of the unique set of problems that pose such a peril to the civilized world. I am not interested in entertaining your notions, a figurative "your", that I must, or if I'd only, make a gesture of reaching out and engaging the "other", etc, etc.
I'm not interested in any of those ideas, burdened as they are with varying degrees of unacknowledged, yet 800lb-gorilla-in-the-corner sized admissions that somehow, some way, once again, it's really not the muslims' fault you know. Somehow, some way, it's, well, you know, because of the West. Educated, successful, vibrant, cultured. To have all that while the muslim world wallows in conditions that would have a New Yorker ticketed if they kept their dog in such squalor, well it MUST be an insidious conspiracy.

So I come here, not for "meaningful dialogue with the other", but to find people of a similar mindset. I read, avidly, the pieces posted by individuals whom I respect, and then carry the core thoughts with me to relate to the people I am friends with, work with, care about. I see a threat to MY culture, to MY way of life, and I am only interested in doing what needs to be done to protect it. I am not burdened by cultural guilt, I am bouyed by a pride in what the revolutionaries of the Enlightenment and Modernism have left to my safekeeping. I owe it to them, I owe it to my son, to preserve and protect this legacy.
