(PRWEB) - (PRWEB) February 21, 2006 -- Conservative t-shirt maker MetroSpy set off a firestorm when their newest design depicted a caricature of the prophet Mohammed with a bomb wrapped in his turban. According to Islamic tradition, graphic depictions of the Prophet Mohammed are forbidden. MetroSpy's apparent disregard for this tradition has outraged many in the Muslim world, prompting some to voice their displeasure by sending the company hate-filled email, online viruses and even death threats.Johnathan Alexander, MetroSpy's production manager, says he's never seen anything like it. “It's a silly little cartoon. We've sold designs far more offensive than this for years”, referring to a t shirt which reads, “My Jesus can beat up your Allah.”
“For people to become so enraged over a drawing that they resort to burning down buildings and threatening to kill people is something I'll never understand,” Alexander said.
In one email the person writes, “We kill you and burn your shop. I am Muslim with forces in the U.S.A.”
Another email claims to be from the terrorist group Al Qaeda. It reads, “You only have 5 days and your company will disappear. I promise!” The email is signed, Saalem Al Qahtani, Al Qaeda.
One of the more disturbing messages simply says, “In two days we kill your family."
Over the past few days, MetroSpy has begun posting some of the emails on their website (http://www.shopmetrospy.com/).
According to Alexander, “Ever since we started posting the messages along with the sender's return address, the volume of hate mail has slowed down and the tone has changed considerably. In fact, some of the more recent comments could be considered polite.”
In an email which was traced to Saudi Arabia, the writer asks, “Could you guys do a favor? Please eliminate this picture from your goods because it's very embarrassing to our religion. If you do that, it would be a greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.”
Another says, “I am sending this e-mail and I hope that you understand that what you are doing is offending more than a billion people in the world. I hope that your sales with other stuff be billions but not for this one offending product.”
Altogether, MetroSpy has received more than five hundred hate emails and attempted virus attacks.
Donia Saber of Elk Grove, California is an Islamic activist who writes, “I am deeply offended at the t-shirt company MetroSpy. Selling shirts with a picture of the Prophet is unacceptable and I assure you the Muslim community will not tolerate this.”
Despite protests over their offending design, MetroSpy plans to continue selling the t-shirts. As a precautionary measure however, MetroSpy has increased its security, sought the advice of a private investigative agency and remain in close contact with federal and local authorities.
I can't help but wonder if they have the permission from the caricaturist to use the caricature. If they haven't, they may end up paying alot of money...

In the context of the death-threats and real deaths meted out to Infidels over the last few weeks of hysteria and hate, the message from "Donia Saber of Elk Grove, California" deserves to be followed up on - with investigation by the FBI, about the provenance of the message.
This constitutes a threat that it is reasonable to assume includes violence. Is this now punishable by law? If it is, then find and punish. If it is not, make a law so that all such threats can be punished, and their makers jailed and then, when non-citizens, be promptly deported. And if they are citizens, there are other additional measures that can be taken.
Swearing initial allegiance to the Infidel nation-state may no longer be enough. Evidence of perjury, and of loyalty offered solely not to the nation-state but to the umma al-islamiyya, can through careful legislative drafting be made grounds for stripping people of citizenship. It ought to be available in the arsenal of those Infidels engaged in defending themselves, their laws, customs, manners, understandings.
Seems to me this is quite the opportune time for all hackers to get the hate email addresses and send viruses to all these peaceful emails....especially that ditz from Thailand, Rene. Shows their stupidity from the lack of spelling and English quality.

The Moslem community considers itself to be a polticial entity in its own right. It is not too far of a stretch to state that Moslesm are dual nationals, even those who convert to Islam from another faith tradition.
Moslems convicted of offenses could be stripped of their non-Moslem nationality and repatriated to a Moslem state, such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, wherever. Death threats are a very serious business and conviction of such a wrong doing warrants punishment of this sort.
Following the thoughts of Hugh's comment, one should also look at the web pages the Muslim Student Association at the University of Southern California has posted. I know many of the posters here obtain their Koran and Hadith quotes from this site, but one should in particular look at the Misconceptions about Islam page. I think it was quite clever of this company to put the hate mails on their website along with the senders email addys for all the world to see. Perhaps those who sent the hate mail will get hate mail in return.

When they are locked up for plotting to kill us, they want a fair trial, and of course the whole world is against them.
They come to our countries, poor, with situations, and they are housed, feed, schooled, given money - then turn around and tell us that we need to put into place their system of governance.

I am enjoying the t-shirt I bought. I have not worn it yet, but it's nice to express my freedom to own it...as well as my methods of defense.
The problem with this situation is that reasonable people are trying to reason with an unreasonable people. So why is everyone trying to? They can cut off heads, and other parts, destroy historical sites, discriminate against our relegion, criminalize free trade with certain countries (Israel), you can't even make a phone call from the UAE to Israel, even on a world-cell phone (think of that one Brother Bush), so why is anyone trying to reason with this unreasonable, backward people?

I'm sorry, Where did he say this? I think we all would love for muslims to embrace the ideology of OUR freedom of speech. Perhaps the issue is more about ensuring our right to speek freely without the fear of some veiled threat being leveled in order to shut us up.

Though no actual death threat is being made, a threat of some kind is being implied. Hugh makes an excellent point. The madness perpetrated by muslims throughout the world today in response to these cartoons is enough to make anyone leery of a muslim community being 'intolerant' of your printing one of these cartoons on a tee-shirt. It is documented that muslims have killed because they were 'intolerant' of these cartoons.

Make your own t-shirts. save your favorite pic of mo to your pc. buy at wal-mart of office max the t-shirt transfer paper. print your mo pic on the transfer paper and iron on to a t-shirt. i do this all the time, but now i will add mo to my next printing.
