yes, how outrageous. Perhaps the German charge d'affairs in Iran should be taking up the case of the Holocaust denying cartoons Ahmadinejad & Co. are touting as expressions of freedom of speech.

Let me get this straight, Iran boast about having a brigade of suicide bombers. Then the German press reacts to this issue with a cartoon, illustratively expressing with comical whit, what was reported out of Iran, of course. And now the Iranians are offended and demand an apology!? It maybe a dark joke to the Iranian embassy, but to the Free World, it's the light of truth. Thing about this is the fact that the information came straight from the Iranian horses mouth!!!

Dead infidel - its true, one of the least pleasant aspects of hitchhiking in the Arab world back in the '70's was when a truckdriver would go out of his way to run over a dog. I can understand the feeling though, if I was driving on a Paris street late at night and saw Mrs. Arafat...

The problem with apologizing for one cartoon will be that you will be apologizing for everyone into the future.

The west has made their bed. Now either apologize, or tell them to take a hike and stand behind freedom of speech.

Islam now sees that they can get the west to apologize for anything.

The Guardian's translation is the correct one. It needs to be emphasised though, that the cartoonist, Klaus Stuttmann, is a Leftie and wanted to poke fun at the German Bundeswehr (as if they weren't a joke already) and not the Iranian national team (as if they weren't a joke already).

By the way: some pro-Israel Germans are preparing to go to the matches of Iran's team waving Israeli flags. I hope this idea gets a lot of traction. We'll see...
