1938 Alert from AP, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
Several hundred hard-line students threw stones and firebombs at the British Embassy in Tehran on Sunday, blaming Britain and the United States for the bombing of a Shiite shrine in Iraq.A few windows were broken in the embassy, and firebombs went off outside its walls during the two-hour protest, before Iranian police wielding sticks dispersed the students.
Nearly 1,000 students gathered outside the embassy in the morning and held a peaceful protest, chanting 'Death to America' and 'Death to Britain' and blaming the two countries in Wednesday's bombing of the shrine in the Iraqi town of Samarra.
'We hold the occupiers of Iraq responsible,' one banner read. They also held signs denouncing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad that were printed in European papers.
The larger demonstration ended without incident. But several hours later, around 400 students returned and attacked the embassy.
...and in neighbouring Pakistan, a nurse was gang raped for refusing to perform two abortions.
At least we can trust the Telegraph to get the story right:

"Pakistan's hudood law outlaws extramarital sex and forces a rape victim to field four witnesses to prove her case. The victim can be considered a guilty party."
Sharia Law, hopefully NOT coming to a neighbourhood near your own. Bloody barbarians!
And these are the kind of barbarians that the EU has "bailed out" from financial collapse.
Does it never occur to them that we've heard about enough by now of insults to their prophet?
It is just so juvenile. They've raised the Mohammed-fetishism to a ludicrous level.
Does'nt the attitude of the Zen Buddhists towards the Buddha make a refreshing change? This is from The Gateless Gate Koan #21, where the master tries to shock a monk out of a too-reverential attitude to the Buddha:

When I was in school, a hard-line student was someone who did his homework on the bus.
"Nearly 1,000 students gathered outside the embassy in the morning and held a peaceful protest, chanting 'Death to America' and 'Death to Britain'..."
Sorry folks, but that one line just slays me! I wonder if my neighbors would think I was peaceful, if I stood outside the mosque down the street, and chanted "Death to Islam". Probably not. :-)
These "students" have serious anger management issues.
The current Muslim challenge to the West began with an American embassey (foreign soil) takeover in Iran.
And Peanut Jimmy Carter, whose 'charity' (250mil)is funded by the Arabs, allowed it to happen.
(the same Peanut Jimmy who encourages Dubai control of six American ports - the smell test)
So here we have a state sponsored Iranian challenge to Britain (allowed to go on for two hours).
If we go back to sleep, we might not wake up.
threw stones and firebombs at the British Embassy in Tehran on Sunday, blaming Britain and the United States for the bombing of a Shiite shrine in Iraq.
In the well known words of Michael Caine
"You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off"
I think that fat creep Sadr is behind the bombing of the golden mosque. He was in Iran over the weekend....comes back and of course blames the allies for the bombing.
If I'm remembering correctly the mosque that was bombed is connected with the hidden iman which the Iraqi Shia believe is still alive and will return there.
As we know Iran's thug in chief also believes in the return of the hidden iman *but* that the iman will reappear in Qom. Since not even miracle dead men can return to two places it's not a real stretch to consider that while Sadr and some of his group carried out the bombing Iran is behind it.
So the riot in Iran was supposed to focus everyone's attention on the infidel as the mosque bomber *but* as usual they've over played their hand and have just about openly admitted they were behind it.
Nearly 1,000 students gathered outside the embassy.......
I doubt many are students in the true sense of the word. The same word "students" was used for the mob behind the overthrow of the Shah and the installation of Ayatollah Khoumeni. Back in 1979.
The bombed Shrine and hidden Imam AKA the Twelfth Imam. From the LA Times ---->>>
The Samarra shrine is believed to house the remains of the ninth and 10th of Ali's heirs, Ali Hadi and Hasan Askari. Shiites believe that both were poisoned in the 9th century by agents of the caliph.
But, many Shiites believe that Askari's young son, Mohammed Mahdi, disappeared into a cellar near site of the shrine and was not killed, an event called the occultation.
They regard Mahdi as the 12th or "Hidden Imam," and believe he will reappear, heralding a new age and avenging the wrongs done to Shiites by Sunni governments for centuries.
"Mahdi is expected to return one day as a messiah," Nakash said. The shrine complex is considered a link to the Mahdi. As a result, the attack on it "is a very significant provocation."
There is an English legend, bound up in the myths of Glastonbury, that King Arthur is only sleeping and will return when we need him. The Disney film Bedknobs and Broomsticks was based on it.
I reckon when push comes to shove our legend could beat their legend.
And there is only one Messiah.
"There is an English legend, bound up in the myths of Glastonbury, that King Arthur is only sleeping and will return when we need him. The Disney film Bedknobs and Broomsticks was based on it."
We have a similar legend in my country regarding king Sebastian who was killed in 1578 fighting the Moors in North Africa.
So much for us not publishing those cartoons out of respect towards Islam. Where's their respect towards us?
Kings Sebastian and Arthur would make a good team by the sounds of it.
I think they're just frustrated because they can't come up with any funny Holocaust-denial cartoons.
The Brits should stock their building with high explosives and leave in disgust.
Then the next bunch of "students" invading the abandoned building to firebomb and ransack it would blow themselves up.
And who would ever think the Brits would boobytrap their own embassy?
Yojimbo --
I went to the link. God, after all this Islam -- what a relief.
Yojimo (or is it really Sanjuro?)-
The Mumonkan's alright by me.
Hugh-
It is nice to cleanse the palate once in a while.
I like the za-zen quip about a student complaining that he felt trapped (in his own ignorance) and "how could he be freed"?
The monk grabbed him by his nose until he cried aloud:
"Ow!!!",
-then the monk said:
"There, he's out!"
Appropriately, today is the anniversary for the Reichstag fire in Nazi Germany (February 27, 1933). Some theorize Shi'ites blew up the golden mosque, some theorize it was Sunnis, but both groups can compromise and agree that it was the Joooos. And so it goes, step by step.
Such logic, attack the people who had nothing to do with it. These people truly are psychotic!
Don't be alarmed people!
This is only the Muslim version of George Bush Senior's "thousand points of light". However, being Muslims, they always get things slightly slaunchways...
