I am constantly struck by the fact that in all of the pictures of the riots about the cartoons, hell in ANY picture of Muslims rioting, you see smiling faces mugging it up for the camera. I get the feeling this is considered one big photo op by these people.
I am also disgusted at the pictures showing the crowds carrying signs saying that free speach is Muslim oppression and it is terrorism against Muslims. Those of us who value our freedoms can't let that pass. I've sent comments to my elected officials demanding a showing of spine against this action.
I believe that if any country passes a pro-Muslim law in response to this imtimidation tactic, that country might as well live under Sharia law.

Italian minister puts Mohammad cartoon on T-shirts

ROME (Reuters) - Italy's Reform Minister Roberto Calderoli has had T-shirts made emblazoned with cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in a move that could embarrass Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's government.
Calderoli, a member of the anti-immigrant Northern League party, told Ansa news agency on Tuesday that the West had to stand up against Islamist extremists and offered to hand out T-shirts to anyone who wanted them.
"I have had T-shirts made with the cartoons that have upset Islam and I will start wearing them today," Ansa quoted Calderoli as saying.
He said the T-shirts were not meant to be a provocation but added that he saw no point trying to appease extremists.
"We have to put an end to this story that we can talk to these people. They only want to humiliate people. Full stop. And what are we becoming? The civilization of melted butter?" Calderoli said.

If you read the tags that are attached to the garments, it is a statement that goes on and on about the 'struggle of the brothers', etc. I still shop at Penney's but avoid the Mecca brand.

What's with the Ronald McDonald animus these days? Just a couple threads down, the one about the Milan art show depicting Oriana Fallaci beheaded, there was a reference to a "lurid" portrait of Ronald at the same art show.
I find it hilarious that McDonald's is such an international symbol of everything that is wrong and dangerous about America. Certainly the American left appears to share this view. Personally, I don't care for fast food. I eat fast food maybe 2 or 3 times a year tops, usually if I'm on the road. But the hilarious thing is that it is obviously quite possible to live one's entire life in America completely ignoring McDonald's to the point that it barely registers on one's radar screen (unless one happens to be on the interstate and in dire need of a clean public restroom, in which case nothing beats MickyD's – and one HAS to admit that in this respect, McD’s provides an absolutely indispensable public service!)) - and yet this relatively innocuous enterprise makes people so darned angry, not only here at home but obviously throughout the world.
There are a great many things about American culture that I have no taste for – certain kinds of music, mall shopping, certain spectator sports, and so on – but it is equally obvious that it is quite easy to live one’s life almost totally oblivious to these things. No one is required to eat fast food, or spend time shopping at malls and buying things, let alone even own a television set or have a radio in one’s car. By choice, anyone is free to live as folks did back in the 1940’s, in small homes, with one car, boxed lunches, and so on.
So what’s the big deal? Some people act as if noone has a choice in these things – as if the lure of materialism and advertising and bright splashy things is an overwhelming force that deprives people of free will and autonomy.
No it doesn’t. ISLAM is an overwhelming force that deprives people of autonomy. I am fairly certain, though, that there are in fact a fair number of westerners especially, who are so disgusted by the likes of McD’s that they are prepared to roll over and let Islam march in because the west is “decadent” and because it has ugly, cheap things like McDonalds in every town and because they somehow don’t understand basic concepts like choice and free will. The bottom line is that this Ronald McDonald animus, while it's easy to laugh at, is actually no joke.

Actually, to me, the most fascinating thing about westerners' animus to McDonald's (which generally comes from the leftist side of the political spectrum) is that these are the very folks who ARE quite capable, in their personal lives, of living without fast food, of avoiding television sets at home and radios in their cars, of driving beat up cars or relying on public transportation, of shopping at the Goodwill or the Salvation Army for their clothes, of buying bulk beans and rice and oatmeal at the local co-op, of using public transportation and so on (I am very familiar with all these things not on the basis of any ideological grounds, but merely due to limited financial means resulting from being a student for so many years). So in their personal lives, these are the very folks who demonstrate the consummate ease of living in the west while simultaneously avoiding all the trappings of commercialism, whether due to necessity or on on the basis of voluntary ideological grounds.
YET - these are the very folks who are utterly obsessed with trying to ENFORCE upon the west a utopian world that is devoid of all these things that they manage quite easily to avoid, through their own personal choices, every single day of their lives. And in the interests of enforcing something that in the west doesn't even NEED to be enforced, but which can be quite readily adopted as a voluntarily lifestyle, these folks are willing to sell out the things which absolutely DO matter - things which once dispensed with simply CANNOT be regained voluntarily, through personal choices related to lifestyle.
What those most precious and indispensable things are is abundantly clear to anyone who has studied Islam or Communism or any totalitarian ideology.
But why don't the western McDonald's haters get that? Since they are the ones who by their own choices, demonstrate most clearly that they are ALREADY free? As free as anyone can possibly be in this world that we all actually live in, right here, right now?

From my experience these "leftists" are the ones who do NOT engage in what you've just described.
I have found that the outspoken critics of excess are the very people who engage in it. Gas guzzling SUVs, fast food and whatever else you mentioned.

The people you describe ARE true hypocrites, there's no doubt about it. But the folks I'm describing DO live their ideals. My problem with the folks I'm describing is that they refuse to acknowledge that they live those ideals by choice and they are arrogant in not understanding that others are perfectly capable of making the same choices and that there is no need to overthrow the entire system in order to ENFORCE upon others, the same lifestyles they have voluntarily chosen (they are incredibly arrogant actually, in elevating their own chosen lifestyle as the perfect aesthetic ideal of how people OUGHT to live). Because there's simply no way of doing so without depriving people of freedoms that are far far more important.

McDonald's whatever its virtues or lack thereof at least gainfully employs people and provides food and (usually clean) restrooms to the public. I would agree that that may not be very much.
However, to someone in need of a job especially a person without many marketable job skills, a job with McDonald's is at least SOMETHING of remote value as it enables them to provide themselves with a roof over their head, food, and a paycheck (however small that may be).
But this is to my view a far greater contribution to humanity than anything Islam has ever managed to come up with. Or ever could. Note the abject and massive poverty of the Islamic nations. And therein lies my trifling with your statement: Islam does zero for humanity's physical well-being and that is putting it NICELY! What is Islam anyway but a millstone around humanity's neck? and I believe that they were published, because of the undercurrent of fear associated with Islam - in the media and in politics.
What is happening is that we are being censored by people who have recently come in as migrant workers.
We have had artists and politicians killed and their lives threatened. At the moment there are several of the Dutch politicians who have to live under police protection. And now these cartoonists are in the same position.
We have Islamic people all around Europe’s borders. First they come in for a job - and now they are saying that they want to take over the place.
This whole protest thing is like nothing that any of us have ever seen before. And to back this up we got these radicals on our TV's saying openly - anyone comes against the prophet has to be killed.
If you speak out they will single you out and they may kill you.

I was going to say that it’s a love hate relationship - I think these people love it because they want to take their children there - but it is about a day’s wage.

There is a new turntable, just releaed this year, (for under $200) with a USB port that plays 78's (and 33 1/3rds and 45's). You put on the record, plug it into your computer, save it to an audio file and burn a CD directly from that.
It's great for old Les Paul* and Gene Krupa 78's too. (Krupa being the best drummer to ever skin a kit... although Keith Moon was a fine tom-tom heavy heir himself.)

Years ago, there were Hobo Joe's restaurants in Arizona, probably California, too.
I think the chain went under. However, I liked their restaurants. They had a Hobo Joe figure outside the entrance as I recall. Haven't seen one of those in real life in years. Found one via the internet. 'Hobo Joe'is hiding out somewhere in Arizona.

Where is the indignation and outrage of the European people at this apocryphal affront to not only their culture, traditions, and freedoms, but to their security?!

One can understant why leftest extremists have such an affinity for islam. If one were to entitle the photograph "no global protesters and a world trade meeting" it would be equally plausible.
This has nothing to do with the cartoons. It's about American Idol. Ali Kazaam was told that his trip to Hollywood was over and that he had to go home. His rendition of Paul McCarthy's "Live and Let Die" didn't convince Simon Cowell.
And the Islamofeces didn't have an accurate picture of Simon and just picked anything Ameriacn to burn. But rumor has it that the imans convinced the rioters that Ronald McDonald was, in fact, the split image of Simon Cowell, ommitting the fact that Simon was really British. And that the image was an undercover slap at the prophet Muhammad.
Ali Kazaam, inangered about being let go from the popular reality show, swore "Allah shall have his vengance upon the infidel Simon!" And called for jihad.
Ali Kazaam commented when asked about Paula Abdul,
"I honor nothing about this woman's vote. It only counted for half vote."
But yet Ali Kazaam did notice that the Coke-a-Cola label was on the cups that the judges were drinking from.
